CHARLES CASON, BECAUSE HE ALWAYS HAS A POSITIVE ATTITUDE AND HE'S ALWAYS POSITIVE WITH HIS PEERS.

HE JUST COMES TO SCHOOL SMILING EVERY DAY AND EXCITED ABOUT.

LEARNING ANY NEW WORDS FEEL GOOD.

I PICK JADE BECAUSE SHE IS RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE.

SHE'S KIND, SHE'S A GOOD LEADER, AND WE ALL LOVE HER.

GETTING THE AWARD MAKES ME HAPPY.

AGNES HAS BEEN A SUPERSTAR HELPER SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR.

SHE HAS A LOT OF INITIATIVE, AND IF SHE SEES SOMEBODY THAT MIGHT NEED SOMETHING, SHE'S ALWAYS THERE TO HELP THEM OUT.

SHE'S VERY RESPONSIBLE, VERY POLITE.

JUST OVERALL, I CAN ALWAYS COUNT ON HER.

DOING GOOD WORK MAKE ME FEEL GREAT.

AND THE REASON WHY I CHOSE HIYA IS BECAUSE SHE SETS AN EXAMPLE OF EXCELLENCE AND BEHAVIOR AND COOPERATION FOR ALL OF HER PEERS AND TEACHERS.

IT MAKES ME FEEL LIKE I AM CARING AND I'M DOING THE RIGHT THING.

BECAUSE ANYTIME YOU NEED SOMETHING DONE OR IF A CLASSMATE NEEDS HELP, ANYBODY HAS A QUESTION, SHE'S ALWAYS RIGHT THERE.

SHE IS VERY KIND AND CARING AND COMPASSIONATE.

KEEPING THAT WORD MAKES ME FEEL GOOD.

I CHOSE CLARA TO BE THE SCHOOL BOARD SUPERSTAR BECAUSE SHE COMES TO SCHOOL READY TO LEARN.

SHE'S ALWAYS WORKING HARD.

THERE'S NEVER A TIME THAT YOU HAVE TO ASK HER TO TRY HER BEST, AND SHE'S A VERY GOOD LEADER FOR THE CLASSROOM.

I'M TRYING TO GET THE SCHOOL BOARD SUPERSTAR AWARD.

HE IS AN EXEMPLARY STUDENT IN CLASS, WORKS HARD, IS HELPFUL KIND.

SO THAT IS WHY I CHOSE MATHIAS AS MY STAR STUDENT.

GETTING THE AWARD MAKES ME FEEL GOOD.

JAMES IS A SUPERSTAR BECAUSE OF HIS AMAZING ATTITUDE.

HE LIGHTS UP A ROOM WHEREVER HE IS.

HE HAS AN AMAZING SMILE THAT GIVES SO MUCH RADIANCE TO EVERYONE HE MEETS AND HE'S A GREAT FRIEND TO EVERYONE.

YOU CAN FIND YOUR SEATS.

CONGRATULATIONS. MOVING ON TO OUR ACADEMIC RECOGNITIONS, I'D LIKE TO INVITE CHEYENNE ATWOOD, PRINCIPAL OF JERRY KNIGHT STEM ACADEMY, TO THE PODIUM. AND AS SHE MAKES HER WAY UP HERE, I'D ASK YOU TO PLEASE AGAIN TURN YOUR ATTENTION TOWARDS THE SCREENS AS WE INTRODUCE THE NEXT ROUND OF RECOGNITIONS.

MANSFIELD FFA HELPS PREPARE OUR STUDENTS TO BE COLLEGE, CAREER AND LIFE READY.

IT HELPS OUR STUDENTS HAVE CHOICES IN WHAT THEY'RE DOING AND WHAT THEY'RE LEARNING HELPS THEM CONNECT AND HAVE SOMETHING THAT THEY'RE INTERESTED IN AND MAKE FRIENDS ALONG THE WAY IN THE BARN. I LIKE JUST ALL THE ANIMALS IN GENERAL BECAUSE I GET TO TAKE CARE OF THEM, SHOW THEM AND LOVE ON THEM.

THE PROGRAM OFFERS STUDENTS LOTS OF ACTIVITIES AND LOTS OF DIFFERENT THINGS THAT THEY CAN GET INVOLVED WITH.

OUR JUNIOR FFA PROGRAM INTRODUCES THEM TO SOME OF THE ANIMAL RESPONSIBILITY, SHOWING SOME OF THE PROJECTS THAT THEY CAN GET INVOLVED IN, BUT THEY ALSO CAN BE INVOLVED IN WHAT WE CALL LEDES, WHICH IS LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT EVENTS.

AND THOSE ARE EVENTS THAT ACTUALLY PROMOTE CAREER LEADERSHIP SKILLS, JOB CAREER SKILLS THAT THEY CAN FOCUS ON AND THAT THEY GET A LOT OF EXPERIENCE WITH BEFORE THEY ACTUALLY GO INTO THE JOB FIELD.

THEY CAN ALSO DO WHAT WE CALL CAREER DEVELOPMENT EVENTS IN THE SPRING, WHICH ARE ACTUAL CONTESTS THAT ARE CENTERED AROUND AGRICULTURE CAREERS.

IT'S A LOT OF WORK, BUT IT'S A FUN EXPERIENCE.

EARLY MORNINGS, LATE NIGHTS, A LOT OF WORK JUST CHANGE, YOU KNOW, CHANGE DAILY LIFE ROUTINES.

5 A.M. EVERY MORNING, I EXPECTED WORK.

I DIDN'T EXPECT TO GO WITH ATTITUDE AND STRIVE WITH DETERMINATION THAT, YOU KNOW, GET ON MY NERVES.

BUT IT'S FUN.

HE'S A PAIN, BUT HE'S FUN.

OUR FFA PROGRAM IS ONE OF THE FASTEST GROWING PROGRAMS IN OUR DISTRICT RIGHT NOW, AND THE GROWTH HAS BEEN PHENOMENAL.

WE'VE TRIPLED OUR NUMBERS IN THE LAST TWO YEARS AND WE'RE SEEING A GROWTH IN THE INDUSTRY AS WELL.

I'M GLAD THAT I'M IN THE AG PROGRAM.

I WANT TO WORK AS A VET AND HELP OTHER PEOPLE WITH THEIR ANIMALS.

AG IS ALWAYS KIND OF DROVE MY ATTENTION FROM EVERYTHING, WHETHER IT'S FISHING, WHETHER IT'S A GIRL RIDING ANYTHING LIKE THAT.

I JUST LOVE TO BE AROUND ANIMALS.

SO STUDENTS WHO DON'T CURRENTLY ATTEND ANY OF OUR AG CAMPUSES CAN VISIT THE POWER OF CHOICE WEBSITE.

WE HAVE OPPORTUNITIES FOR THEM TO APPLY FOR A TRANSFER TO BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS AMAZING PROGRAM OFFERED AT ALL OF OUR CAMPUSES.

THAT'S REVEREND DONNA SHEPHERD AND JOE.

AND OUR HOPES IS THAT THIS PROGRAM WILL LEAD TO SO MANY THINGS IN THEIR BRIGHT FUTURE AND HELP THEM MAKE CONNECTIONS OUTSIDE OF THE CLASSROOM AS WELL.

OKAY. THANK YOU.

SO WE ARE GOING TO INTRODUCE SOME STUDENTS TONIGHT.

OUR STUDENTS THAT ARE HERE HAVE EITHER WON GRAND CHAMPION FOR THEIR SPECIES RESERVE GRAND CHAMPION, OR THEY WERE SELECTED AS CHAMPION SHOWMAN AND CHAMPION. SHOWMAN MEANS THEY'RE NOT JUDGING THE ANIMAL.

THEY'RE JUDGING THE STUDENT AND THE WORK THAT THEY HAVE PUT IN.

DON'T GO ANYWHERE.

I'M GOING. LET MOM GET THAT LAST PHOTO.

OKAY. WE ALSO HAVE CERTIFICATES.

LET'S GET ONE MORE ROUND OF APPLAUSE FOR OUR JERRY NIGHT LEARNERS.

THANK YOU. DON'T FORGET TO TAG THOSE PHOTOS WITH MANSFIELD ISD BECAUSE THEN WE CAN SEE YOUR PHOTOS AND SHARE YOUR PHOTOS TOO.

THANK YOU, DR. BRANNON.

AND CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN TO THOSE SCIENCE FAIR WINNERS FOR OUR FINAL ACADEMIC RECOGNITION OF THE EVENING.

I'D LIKE TO INVITE DR. LEANNE TAMPLIN, COORDINATOR OF CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION, TO THE PODIUM.

GOOD EVENING. HOW IS EVERYONE THIS EVENING? GOOD. THAT WAS VERY ENCOURAGING TO ME.

AND I KNOW IT WAS PROBABLY TO YOU TO SEE THOSE STUDENTS AND HOW BRIGHT THEIR FUTURES ARE, AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO SERVING THEM IN HIGH SCHOOL.

SO AFTER THIS, I'M GOING TO GO RECRUIT THEM TO COME TAKE SOME CTE CLASSES.

SO I'M HERE THIS EVENING TO TALK TO YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUR NEW PROGRAM THAT WE'RE GOING TO BE OFFERING IN ONE YEAR.

SO IN AUGUST OF 2024, WE'RE GOING TO START THE SUMMIT P-TECH ACADEMY.

WE'RE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THE WORK THAT WE HAVE COMING UP THIS YEAR TO PLAN FOR THE OPENING AND TO SERVE ALL THE STUDENTS THAT ARE INTERESTED IN PURSUING CAREERS IN PROGRAMING AND SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT.

SO IN ORDER TO BE A P-TECH ACADEMY, YOU HAVE TO HAVE BOTH A HIGHER EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP AND A BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP.

SO OUR HIGHER ED PARTNER IS, OF COURSE, TARRANT COUNTY COLLEGE.

SO OUR STUDENTS WILL HAVE OPPORTUNITIES TO TAKE DUAL CREDIT THROUGH TARRANT COUNTY COLLEGE AND EARN EVEN POSSIBLY UP TO AN ASSOCIATE'S DEGREE.

THE BEAUTY OF P-TECH IS THAT IT'S VERY IT'S GOING TO ALLOW STUDENTS TO CUSTOMIZE THEIR LEARNING EXPERIENCE SO THEY CAN HAVE SOME DUAL CREDIT OR UP TO AN ASSOCIATE'S OF DUAL CREDIT.

THEY WILL ALSO HAVE WORK BASED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES WITH MOUSER ELECTRONICS.

SO WE WILL START OFF WITH THEM HAVING SOME JOB SHADOWING EXPERIENCES, HAVING MOUSER COME DO SOME WORK WITH OUR STUDENTS AT SUMMIT HIGH SCHOOL, AND THEN AS THEY BECOME JUNIORS AND SENIORS, THEY'LL ACTUALLY BE ABLE TO DO PRACTICUM OPPORTUNITIES WHERE THEY DO WORK BASED LEARNING AT THE JOB SITE. SO ONE OF THE CERTIFICATIONS THAT STUDENTS IN THE P-TECH ACADEMY WILL BE ABLE TO EARN IS THE PYTHON PROGRAMING CERTIFICATION.

THE REASON WE CHOSE THAT IS IT'S HIGHLY COVETED IN THE FIELD.

AND SO WHAT WE'RE BEING TOLD BY OUR BUSINESS PARTNERS IN THE PROGRAMING AND SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT FIELD IS THAT THESE STUDENTS WILL POSSIBLY BE ABLE TO GET JOBS RIGHT OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL AS JUNIOR PROGRAMMERS EARNING A WONDERFUL LIVING WAGE.

AND SO THAT WOULD BE A GREAT START FOR THEM.

AND IF THEY WANTED TO CONTINUE TO GROW IN THE FIELD, THERE'S DEFINITELY UPWARD MOBILITY FOR THAT.

SO THERE'S JUST SUCH A TREMENDOUS OPPORTUNITY FOR THESE STUDENTS.

WE'LL START WITH 50 STUDENTS AS THE FRESHMAN CLASS, AND IT'LL GROW UP TO 200 STUDENTS BY THE TIME WE HAVE FOUR YEARS OF P-TECH AT SUMMIT HIGH

[00:25:06]

SCHOOL. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

THANK YOU, DR. TAMBLYN.

AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO LEARNING MORE AS THAT PROGRAM IS BUILT AND OUR STUDENTS START.

IT'S WONDERFUL TO BE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE SO MANY STELLAR STUDENTS AND PROGRAMS. AND AS WE TRANSITION INTO THE FINAL PART OF OUR RECOGNITIONS THIS EVENING, AND BEFORE MR. BROGDON COMES TO THE PODIUM TO CLOSE US OUT, WE HAVE A SPECIAL INTRODUCTION FOR OUR NEXT RECOGNITION.

THIS SEMESTER THE COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING TEAM HAS BEEN FORTUNATE TO HAVE TWO INTERNS WORKING WITH US, JUSTIN TAH AND AARON CASTELLANOS, WHO ARE BOTH SENIORS AT LAKE RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL. JUSTIN AND AARON HAVE WORKED ON NUMEROUS VIDEOS THAT YOU'VE SEEN US PRODUCE THROUGHOUT THE SEMESTER, AND THEY'VE BEEN A WONDERFUL ADDITION TO OUR TEAM.

THEY ACTUALLY TOOK A SPECIAL INTEREST IN OUR DISTRICT WIDE ENERGY CONSERVATION PROGRAM, AND THEY TOOK THE LEAD ON EVERY ASPECT OF THE STORY.

DESIGN PRODUCTION OF THE NEXT VIDEO YOU'RE ABOUT TO SEE, AND THEY ALIGN THIS WITH THE CELEBRATION OF EARTH DAY THIS PAST WEEKEND AND TONIGHT'S RECOGNITION AT THE BOARD MEETING.

PLEASE DIRECT YOUR ATTENTION TO THE SCREEN FOR THE INTRODUCTION OF OUR NEXT RECOGNITION.

MY NAME IS KELLY CAMPBELL.

I'M AN ENERGY CONSERVATION SPECIALIST.

MY NAME IS CHRIS MUNOZ.

I AM AN ENERGY CONSERVATION SPECIALIST FOR THE DISTRICT.

EVERYTHING WE DO TO REDUCE THE USAGE OF RESOURCES WHEN THEY'RE UNNEEDED SHRINKS OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT FROM CONTROLLING LIGHTING TO CONTROLLING TECHNOLOGY TO CONTROLLING HVAC RUNTIMES.

ALL OF THAT CONTRIBUTES TO A LOWER CARBON OUTPUT.

WATCHING OUR SYSTEMS AND REDUCING OUR USAGE OF RESOURCES, WE HAVE REDUCED OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT BY 55,000 METRIC TONS THAT ARE GOING OUT INTO EMISSIONS INTO THE ENVIRONMENT.

BECAUSE THE POINT IS, WHY DO WE WANT TO PAY FOR SOMETHING IF IT'S NOT SOMETHING THAT WE NEED? SO WHEN WE'RE REDUCING OUR USAGE OF RESOURCES, IT'S BETTER FINANCIALLY, IT'S ALSO BETTER ENVIRONMENTALLY.

ANNUALLY, WE SAVE ABOUT $1.6 MILLION.

WHEN ENERGY STAR RECOGNIZES OUR PROGRAM, IT'S ESPECIALLY REWARDING BECAUSE IT'S A THIRD PARTY WHO'S LOOKING AT OUR PROGRAM.

IT WOULD BE ONE THING IF WE WENT OUT AND TALKED ABOUT HOW GREAT IT IS.

IT'S ANOTHER TO HAVE SOMEONE FROM THE OUTSIDE RECOGNIZE OUR PROGRAM BECAUSE OF ITS SUSTAINABILITY, ITS MOMENTUM AND ITS SUCCESS AND ACHIEVEMENTS OVER THE LAST TEN YEARS.

ALL RIGHT. I'D LIKE TO INVITE DR.

PAUL CASH, THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF FACILITIES, TO COME UP AND RECEIVE THE RECOGNITION ON BEHALF OF KELLY AND CHRIS.

CHRIS IS AT A CONFERENCE LEARNING MORE ABOUT ENERGY CONSERVATION.

AND KELLY HAD A CONFLICT TONIGHT.

MANSFIELD ISD IS AGAIN ARE IN THE HIGHEST RECOGNITION GIVEN BY THE US EPA.

THE DISTRICT RECEIVED THE 2023 ENERGY PARTNER OF THE YEAR SUSTAINED EXCELLENCE AWARD.

THE PARTNER OF THE YEAR AWARD IS GIVEN TO ENTITIES THAT PERFORM AT A SUPERIOR LEVEL OF ENERGY MANAGEMENT AND PROVE ORGANIZATIONAL WIDE ENERGY SAVINGS.

THE SUSTAINED EXCELLENCE DESIGNATION IS GIVEN TO ORGANIZATIONS THAT HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED THE ENERGY STAR PARTNER OF THE YEAR, AT LEAST A MINIMUM OF TWO CONSECUTIVE YEARS.

THIS IS OUR 10TH YEAR THAT MISD HAS WON THE PARTNER OF THE YEAR AWARD AND THE EIGHTH YEAR IN A ROW THAT WE'VE WON THE DISTINCTION OF SUSTAINED EXCELLENCE.

SO THAT'S THAT'S WORTH A LOT OF APPLAUSE FOR.

KELLY AND CHRIS.

I'D ALSO LIKE TO ADD THAT SINCE THE START OF THE MISD ENERGY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM IN 2012, MISD HAS RECEIVED A COST, HAS ACHIEVED A COST AVOIDANCE OF APPROXIMATELY $18.1 MILLION IN WATER, ELECTRICITY AND NATURAL GAS.

I KNOW THAT MY CFO IS LOVING THAT.

MS ISD HAS EARNED MORE THAN 300 ENERGY STAR BUILDING CERTIFICATIONS SINCE 2006, MORE THAN ANY OTHER DISTRICT IN THE STATE.

AND THE LAST TIME WE LOOKED, THERE WAS ONLY MAYBE 1 OR 2 SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN THE UNITED STATES THAT HAVE ACHIEVED MORE THAN US.

AND WE'RE I KNOW ONE OF THEM AND WE'RE RIGHT BEHIND THEM.

OUR ENERGY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM EDUCATES STUDENTS AND FAMILIES ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF TURNING OFF LIGHTS, CLOSING DOORS, TURNING OFF WATER TO PROMOTE CONSERVATION AND SUSTAINABILITY. KELLY AND CHRIS WERE GRATEFUL FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP AND YOUR PROFOUND IMPACT ON NOT ONLY OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT, BUT OUR COMMUNITY.

SO ONE MORE ROUND OF APPLAUSE FOR THEM, AND THANK YOU, DR.

CASH. YOU WANT TO GET A PHOTO? CAN I GET A PHOTO OF YOU? OKAY. WE'RE GETTING NOBODY OUT THERE.

OKAY. ALL RIGHT.

SO IT TAKES US TO OUR NEXT AND FINAL RECOGNITION.

AND I'D LIKE TO INVITE RITA DENTON, OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF STUDENT NUTRITION, ALONG WITH HER ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, SANDRA THOMAS AND JENNIFER PARHAM.

AND I SEE NICOLE OUT THERE.

YOU KNOW WHAT? ALL OF Y'ALL COME ON UP.

EVERYBODY IN STUDENT NUTRITION.

I SEE SEVERAL PEOPLE OUT THERE.

WE ARE RECOGNIZING THEM TONIGHT FOR A SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW AND PROCUREMENT REVIEW PROCESS.

[00:30:06]

THIS IS AN EXTENSIVE REVIEW THAT OCCURS EVERY FOUR YEARS REVIEWING THE NATIONAL SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM AND THE SCHOOL BREAKFAST PROGRAM.

THREE AUDITORS WERE ON SITE FOR THREE DAYS REVIEWING SIX SCHOOLS AND NINE MEAL SESSIONS.

AUDITORS REVIEWED ALL ASPECTS OF THE PROGRAM, INCLUDING MEAL PATTERN, MEAL, COMPLIANCE, COUNTING AND CLAIMING THE MEALS, CLAIMING OF MEALS, DOCUMENTATION ON MEAL APPLICATIONS AND VERIFICATION.

THERE WERE ZERO FINDINGS ON THE ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW.

AND ONE MINOR TECHNICAL WHAT I'M CALLING THEY SAY TECHNICAL ERROR.

I'M CALLING IT A TECHNICAL GLITCH ON THE PROCUREMENT REVIEW.

BUT BEFORE THE AUDIT WAS CLOSED, THAT CORRECTION WAS ALREADY MADE, WHICH IS IMPRESSIVE.

THE AUDITORS WERE BLOWN AWAY BY THE AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE AND FOOD QUALITY SHOWN AT ALL OF OUR CAMPUSES AND THE ORGANIZATION AND THE DEDICATION OF EACH CAMPUS TEAM AND THE LEADERSHIP AT EACH CAMPUS.

THEY COMMENTED THAT VISITING MANSFIELD ISD WAS THE MOST FUN THAT THEY HAVE HAD ALL YEAR.

AND FOLKS, WE HAVE A CLOSEOUT PROCESS WHERE THEY MEET WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT OR MYSELF.

THIS TIME IT WAS ME IN THE CLOSEOUT PROCESS THAT LASTED ABOUT AN HOUR AND 15 MINUTES OF THAT WAS JUST THEM BRAGGING ON MANSFIELD AND THE TEAM AND THE FACILITIES AND THE FOOD AND THE PROCESSES.

SO I THINK THAT DESERVES ANOTHER ROUND OF APPLAUSE.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR DEDICATION.

THAT CONCLUDES ELIZABETH.

ARE YOU TAKING OVER? ALL RIGHT.

THAT CONCLUDES OUR RECOGNITIONS FOR TONIGHT.

OKAY.

CONGRATULATIONS TO SO MANY.

OUR DISTRICT CONTINUES TO STAY.

VERY IMPRESSIVE. I THINK SO.

AND I LOVE TO WIN.

AND THAT'S WHAT THEY KEEP DOING FOR US.

SO. SO WE WILL NOW MOVE TO ITEM SEVEN, OUR INSTRUCTIONAL FOCUS.

[7. Instructional Focus]

DR. CANTU? YES. MS. YOUNG, I SEE YOU SITTING RIGHT THERE.

PLEASE COME FORWARD. SHE IS GOING TO GIVE US OUR SYSTEMS REPORT ON CURRICULUM, INSTRUCTION AND ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THE YEAR.

IT LOOKS LIKE I CLEARED THE ROOM SO I CAN TELL EVERYBODY SUPER EXCITED.

SO THAT'S AWESOME.

PRESIDENT WILSON, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.

IT'S MY HONOR TONIGHT TO PROVIDE A SYSTEMS REPORT FOR OUR CURRICULUM INSTRUCTION AND ACCOUNTABILITY DEPARTMENT.

THERE'S A LOT THAT CAN BE SAID ABOUT OUR DEPARTMENT.

AND SO I WAS TASKED WITH DOING IT IN THE SHORTEST AMOUNT OF TIME POSSIBLE.

SO YOU HAVE EIGHT SLIDES TO DO OUR SYSTEMS REPORT, BUT I KIND OF BROKE THE RULES A LITTLE BIT AND I'VE GIVEN YOU A HANDOUT THAT HANDOUT IS ALSO ATTACHED TO THE BOARD AGENDA ONLINE.

SO IF ANYBODY'S WATCHING AT HOME, THEY CAN FOLLOW ALONG.

SO I WILL REFER TO YOUR HANDOUT A LITTLE BIT LATER IN THE PRESENTATION, BUT I JUST WANT TO TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF TIME TO SHARE WITH YOU WHAT WE DO IN OUR CIA DEPARTMENT. ABOUT A YEAR AGO, DR.

CANTU LED OUR EXECUTIVE COUNCIL THROUGH A BOOK STUDY, AND THE BOOK STUDY WAS A BOOK BY SIMON SINEK CALLED THE INFINITE GAME AND THE INFINITE GAME CHALLENGES YOU AND YOUR DEPARTMENT TO COME UP WITH A JUST CAUSE AND A JUST CAUSE IS REALLY THE REASON WHY YOU EXIST AS AN ORGANIZATION.

AND SO OUR LEADERSHIP TEAM CAME TOGETHER AND FOR ABOUT A MONTH OR SO WE WORKED ON TRULY IDENTIFYING OUR JUST CAUSE.

AND SO IT'S UP THERE ON THE SCREEN.

IT SAYS WE EXIST TO SERVE MISD BY PROVIDING A RIGOROUS, EQUITABLE CURRICULUM AND MEANINGFUL PROFESSIONAL LEARNING TO EMPOWER, INSPIRE AND EDUCATE ALL STUDENTS.

AND SO THAT'S THE JUST CAUSE THAT WE DEVELOPED ABOUT A YEAR AGO.

AND WE REFER BACK TO THAT WHEN WE'RE MEETING WITH OUR CIA LEADERSHIP TEAM.

AND IT REALLY JUST KEEPS US GROUNDED IN THE WORK THAT WE'RE DOING AND FOCUSED ON THE WORK OF VISION 2030 THAT REALLY GUIDES EVERYTHING WE DO.

AND THOSE GUIDING STATEMENTS ABOUT MAKING SURE KIDS ARE READING ON GRADE LEVEL AND ACHIEVING MATH AT HIGH LEVELS AND BEING LIFE, COLLEGE AND CAREER READY, THAT GUIDES OUR EVERYDAY WORK.

AND THAT WORK IS REALLY KIND OF UNITED AROUND SOME CORE PROCESSES THAT WE DO DISTRICT WIDE.

WE KNOW WE'RE A CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT AND SO WITH THAT, WE FOCUS ON CONTINUOUSLY IMPROVING OUR OUR PROCESSES AND OUR SYSTEMS. AND SO WE FOCUS ON CURRICULUM, WE CALIBRATE THAT CURRICULUM.

WE ALSO HAVE OUR CADENCE OF ACCOUNTABILITY THAT HELPS WITH OUR CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT.

[00:35:03]

AND THEN LAST COLLABORATION, BECAUSE WE KNOW THIS WORK CAN'T BE DONE IN ISOLATION AND IN SILOS.

AND SO THE IMPORTANCE OF COLLABORATION IS KEY TO THE WORK THAT WE DO IN OUR DEPARTMENT.

AND SO I TRIED TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO VISUALLY DISPLAY WHO WE ARE.

AND SO IN YOUR HANDOUT, YOU HAVE AN ORG CHART.

BUT WHAT I WANTED TO DO IS JUST KIND OF SPLASH UP ON THE SCREEN AND I CAME UP WITH SIX BLUE BOXES AND THEN ONE EXTRA THAT'S JUST KIND OF EVERYTHING ELSE THAT'S LEFT.

AND SO I'M NOT GOING TO READ EVERYTHING TO YOU, BUT YOU CAN SEE THAT WE'RE FOCUSED ON CAMPUS LEADERSHIP AND SUPERVISION.

OUR DEPARTMENT OF INSTRUCTION, WHICH IS OUR CURRICULUM COORDINATORS AND OUR INSTRUCTIONAL COACHES, THE WORK OF VISION 2030, OUR GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING DEPARTMENT SUPPORT OUR COUNSELORS ON CAMPUS ACCOUNTABILITY AND FEDERAL PROGRAMS, SPECIAL POPULATIONS, AND THEN AGAIN EVERYTHING ELSE.

AND AS YOU LOOK AT AT THE BOXES IN BLUE AND THEN ALSO SOME OF THE SPECIFICS IN RED, YOU WILL SEE THAT OUR OUR DEPARTMENT REALLY TOUCHES EVERYTHING IN THE DISTRICT.

WE WE WORK WITH CAMPUS LEADERSHIP.

WE WORK WITH CAMPUS TEACHERS.

WE WORK WITH INSTRUCTIONAL COACHES.

WE WORK WITH FEDERAL PROGRAMS AND MICHELE TRONGAARD'S PEOPLE.

SO WE ARE REALLY WE HAVE OUR HANDS INVOLVED IN EVERYTHING.

AND I WILL TELL YOU THAT WE HAD A VISIT, I DON'T KNOW, ABOUT A MONTH OR TWO AGO FROM KELLER ISD, AND THEY CALLED UP MICHELLE TRONGAARD AND SAID, HEY, WE'RE LOOKING AT THE TAPER REPORTS.

AND FOR CURRICULUM INSTRUCTION YOU GUYS ARE LEAN.

YOU DON'T SPEND NEAR AS MUCH MONEY AS WE DO.

WE WANT TO COME FIND OUT WHAT YOU'RE DOING.

SO THEY CAME TO THE TABLE AND DR.

SCOTT WAS THERE AND DR.

STOECKER, AND THEY WERE LIKE, OKAY, TELL US ABOUT ALL OF YOUR INSTRUCTIONAL COACHES AT EACH OF THE CAMPUSES.

AND WE WERE LIKE, WE DON'T HAVE INSTRUCTIONAL COACHES AT EACH CAMPUS.

AND THEY WERE LIKE, WHAT? WELL, TELL US ABOUT.

AND THEY STARTED NAMING ALL OF THESE POSITIONS AND THEY SAID, YOU KNOW, WE'VE BEEN LOOKING AT OUR PERFORMANCE.

AND YOU GUYS, KELLER USED TO PERFORM QUITE A BIT HIGHER THAN WE DID.

AND WHEN WE WOULD DO THE GREEN IS GOOD SLIDES.

KELLER WAS ALWAYS IN WHITE.

AND OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS, WE'VE SEEN IT KIND OF SHIFT.

AND NOW KELLER HAS A LOT OF GREEN ON OUR SLIDES, AND WE KNOW EVERY PLACE WHERE WE'RE GREEN, WE'RE PERFORMING EQUAL TO OR GREATER THAN.

AND SO THEY'VE NOTICED THAT.

AND THEY SAID, WAIT A MINUTE, YOU'RE DOING ALL OF THIS WITH THIS GROUP OF PEOPLE.

AND I SAID, WE HAVE PHENOMENAL INSTRUCTIONAL COACHES.

OUR CURRICULUM COORDINATORS DO AMAZING WORK.

AND SO WE STARTED GOING THROUGH DEPARTMENT BY DEPARTMENT, FOR EXAMPLE, SOCIAL STUDIES.

WE HAVE THREE PEOPLE.

WE HAVE A SECONDARY PERSON, AN ELEMENTARY PERSON AND ONE COACH.

AND THEY WERE LIKE, THEY SERVE ALL 45 CAMPUSES.

YEAH. AND THEY WRITE THE CURRICULUM.

THEY COACH TEACHERS, THEY PROVIDE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT.

AND SO THEY WERE JUST BLOWN AWAY AT JUST OUR EFFICIENCY.

AND SO IT WAS REALLY KIND OF REWARDING TO HEAR THEM TALK ABOUT THE PROCESSES THAT WE HAVE IN PLACE AND HOW THEY'RE SEEING THE EFFORTS AND THEY'RE SEEING OUR SCORES AND KNOW THAT, HEY, WE'RE SPENDING A LOT MORE MONEY BUT NOT GETTING THE RESULTS.

AND SO THAT WAS GREAT TO GO BACK AND SHARE THAT WITH OUR DEPARTMENT OF INSTRUCTION BECAUSE THE WORK THAT THEY DO IS REALLY INCREDIBLE.

AND SO AGAIN, THAT'S JUST ONE SLIDE THAT SHOWS JUST KIND OF EVERYTHING THAT WE DO AND ALL OF THE LITTLE BUCKETS THAT WE HAVE OUR HANDS IN.

OKAY. SO NEXT, I WANT TO JUST BREAK IT DOWN AND TALK ABOUT CURRICULUM, THEN TALK ABOUT INSTRUCTION AND THEN ACCOUNTABILITY AND THEN WE'LL WRAP IT UP.

AND SO CURRICULUM, THIS IS JUST A SIMPLE SLIDE, BUT THERE'S A LOT TO THIS SLIDE.

AND SO WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT CURRICULUM, WE'RE REALLY TALKING ABOUT THREE DIFFERENT THINGS.

THERE'S A WRITTEN CURRICULUM, A TALK CURRICULUM AND THE TESTED CURRICULUM.

AND SO I WANT US TO MAKE SURE THAT WHEN YOU HEAR THE WORD CURRICULUM, WE ALL HAVE THE SAME UNDERSTANDING.

AND SO IF YOU WILL LOOK, CAN YOU PUT THE LITTLE HANDOUT? THANK YOU. IF YOU WILL LOOK AT YOUR HANDOUT OUT AND IT'S THE SEVENTH PAGE ON YOUR HANDOUT.

THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION TELLS US WHAT STANDARDS WE HAVE TO TEACH.

THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION ADOPTS THE TEKS FOR EVERY SUBJECT AND EVERY GRADE LEVEL.

AND THOSE TEKS ARE THE TEXAS EDUCATION OR TEXAS ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS.

AND THOSE ARE STANDARDS THAT THEY SAY EVERY STUDENT SHOULD KNOW AND BE ABLE TO DO.

AND SO WHAT I'VE DONE IS I'VE GIVEN YOU AN EXAMPLE OF A FIFTH GRADE ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS UNIT.

AND SO JUST SO THAT, YOU KNOW, IN FIFTH GRADE, THE STATE SAYS THAT THERE ARE 93 STANDARDS THAT A STUDENT NEEDS TO KNOW AND BE ABLE TO DO JUST

[00:40:01]

IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS 93 OKAY.

AND SO WHAT OUR CURRICULUM COORDINATORS HAVE TO DO IS THEY TAKE THOSE STANDARDS AND THEY HAVE TO TURN THOSE STANDARDS INTO A WRITTEN CURRICULUM.

AND SO THIS DOCUMENT THAT YOU HAVE, THE NEXT SEVEN PAGES IS AN EXAMPLE OF THE FIRST UNIT IN FIFTH GRADE ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS.

AND SO OUR CURRICULUM COORDINATORS AND COACHES TAKE THE TEAKS AND TURN IT INTO DOCUMENTS LIKE THIS.

AND SO WHEN OUR TEACHERS GET READY TO TEACH, THEY HAVE A FRAMEWORK, THEY HAVE EXAMPLES, THEY HAVE EXEMPLARS, THEY HAVE MINI LESSONS, THEY HAVE ASSESSMENTS. ALL OF THAT IS CREATED THROUGH OUR DEPARTMENT OF INSTRUCTION.

AND SO THIS DOCUMENT IS JUST TO ME IS A GREAT VISUAL FOR YOU TO SEE, JUST THE AMOUNT OF WORK IT TAKES TO GO FROM TEAKS TO AN ACTUAL WRITTEN CURRICULUM.

AND SO IF YOU'LL LOOK ON THAT SECOND PAGE, SO IF YOU'LL SCROLL UP AT THE.

YEAH, KEEP GOING.

KEEP GOING OTHER WAY.

SORRY. YEAH.

AND SO YOU CAN SEE THAT IT HAS ON THERE DIFFERENT ESSENTIAL STANDARDS.

AND SO OUR DEPARTMENT HAS TO DETERMINE OUT OF THESE 93 TEKS WHAT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT ONES FOR EACH UNIT.

AND FROM THOSE THEN THEY GO IN AND THEY BREAK IT DOWN INTO LESSONS.

AND SO AS YOU SCROLL THROUGH, YOU CAN SEE ACADEMIC VOCABULARY.

YOU CAN SEE THAT FOR STANDARD, ESSENTIAL, STANDARD 5.73, YOU CAN LOOK AT THE COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS.

SO THEY LET TEACHERS KNOW AHEAD OF TIME, HEY, THIS IS WHERE KIDS STRUGGLE.

THEY STRUGGLE WITH THIS CONCEPT HERE.

SO IT GIVES THEM THE MISCONCEPTIONS.

IT ALSO GIVES THEM KEEP SCROLLING.

IT GIVES THEM NEW VOCABULARY THAT THE STUDENTS NEED TO KNOW.

AND THEN IF YOU SCROLL A LITTLE BIT MORE, IT TAKES YOU TO A VERTICAL ALIGNMENT SECTION AND YOU CAN SEE RIGHT THERE THAT THE THREE ESSENTIAL STANDARDS, THE CURRENT LEARNING IS 5.7C, 5.9D AND 5.10A SO THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE LEARNING IN FIFTH GRADE.

WELL, IT'S IMPORTANT FOR THE TEACHER TO KNOW WHAT DID THEY LEARN LAST YEAR RELATED TO THIS TEAK AND WHAT ARE THEY GOING TO LEARN IN SIXTH GRADE RELATED TO THIS TEAK? SO IN THIS DOCUMENT IT SHOWS WHAT THEY LEARNED IN FOURTH GRADE, WHICH IS THE PREVIOUS LEARNING.

IT SHOWS THE CURRENT LEARNING AND THEN FUTURE.

SO UNDER THE CURRENT LEARNING, IF YOU LOOK AT 5.9DI, IT SAYS RECOGNIZE CHARACTERISTICS AND STRUCTURES OF INFORMATIONAL TEXT.

SO THEY'RE RECOGNIZING IF YOU LOOK AT SIXTH GRADE, THEY'RE GOING TO HAVE TO BUMP UP THE RIGOR BECAUSE IN SIXTH GRADE THEY'RE GOING TO HAVE TO ANALYZE THAT.

SO IN FIFTH GRADE, THEY'RE JUST RECOGNIZING IT.

IN SIXTH GRADE, THEY'RE GOING TO ANALYZE IT.

BUT IT'S IMPORTANT FOR THE TEACHER TO KNOW WHAT DID THEY LEARN LAST YEAR? WHAT IS IT THEY NEED TO KNOW THIS YEAR AND HOW DO I NEED TO PREPARE THEM FOR THE FOLLOWING YEAR? SO OUR COORDINATORS AND COACHES PUT THAT TOGETHER IN THE DOCUMENT.

OKAY. IF YOU'LL SCROLL A LITTLE MORE PLEASE THEN THIS NEXT SECTION IS REALLY OKAY.

HERE'S SOME INSTRUCTIONAL SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO BEST TEACH THIS MATERIAL.

THROUGHOUT THE SUGGESTIONS THERE ARE LINKS TO TEXTBOOKS AND OTHER DISTRICT VETTED RESOURCES.

AND AGAIN, THIS IS JUST ONE UNIT IN ELAR AND SO THEN IT ENDS.

IF YOU GO DOWN TO THE NEXT PIECE, IT TALKS ABOUT SCROLL A LITTLE MORE FOR ME, PLEASE.

THANK YOU. THEN IT TALKS ABOUT INTERVENTIONS AND EXTENSIONS.

SO IF KIDS DON'T GET IT, WHAT ARE THINGS AS A TEACHER I CAN DO TO HELP THEM BETTER UNDERSTAND THE MATERIAL OR IF THEY ALREADY UNDERSTAND IT, WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP THEM EXTEND THAT LEARNING AND REALLY CHALLENGE AND STRETCH THOSE KIDS THAT ALREADY GET IT? SO I WANTED YOU TO JUST SEE A GLIMPSE OF WHAT OUR DEPARTMENT OF INSTRUCTION PEOPLE DO.

THEY PUT THIS TOGETHER AGAIN FOR EVERY GRADE LEVEL, EVERY SUBJECT, K-12.

AND WITH ELAR, I SAID, THERE ARE 93 TEKS IN FIFTH GRADE.

YOU WILL SEE THAT SAME SIMILAR NUMBER IN IN CONTENT AREAS ACROSS THE BOARD.

AND SO THE CHALLENGE IS WHEN YOU'RE WRITING A CURRICULUM, YOU WANT IT TO BE A GUARANTEED AND VIABLE CURRICULUM.

AND GUARANTEED MEANS THAT WE'VE GOT A WRITTEN CURRICULUM THAT EVERY KID IN OUR DISTRICT HAS ACCESS TO, REGARDLESS OF THE SCHOOL THEY ATTEND OR THE TEACHER THAT THEY HAVE.

THAT'S A GUARANTEED CURRICULUM.

A VIABLE CURRICULUM MEANS IT'S ACTUALLY YOU CAN ACTUALLY GET TO ALL OF THE CURRICULUM.

AND IF WE JUST TELL TEACHERS, YOU NEED TO TEACH 93 TEKS, GOOD LUCK.

THAT'S NOT DOABLE.

SO OUR JOB IS TO CREATE THAT GUARANTEED AND VIABLE CURRICULUM FOR OUR TEACHERS.

OKAY. THANK YOU.

ALL RIGHT. SO NOW LET'S GET BACK TO THE SLIDE SHOW BECAUSE I SAW DAVID CHECKING HIS WATCH.

SO ON THE CURRICULUM SLIDE, THE THING THAT WE JUST TALKED ABOUT WAS THE WRITTEN CURRICULUM.

AND SO IT'S VERY IMPORTANT THAT OUR CURRICULUM IS ALIGNED.

[00:45:02]

SO WHAT IS WRITTEN IS ACTUALLY WHAT WE TEACH AND IT'S ACTUALLY ALIGNED TO WHAT WE TEST.

AND SO YOU'LL SEE THERE ARE ARROWS GOING ALL THREE DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS BECAUSE THAT ALIGNMENT IS SOMETHING THAT WE HAVE TO CONSTANTLY MONITOR AND ADJUST.

ANY TIME THE STATE CHANGES THE TEST, ANY TIME THEY ADOPT NEW TEKS, WE HAVE TO REDO EVERYTHING.

AND SO THIS THESE PROCESSES ARE THIS IS JUST A CONSTANT PROCESS OF CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT AND, AND CONTINUOUSLY REWRITING AND REVISING OUR CURRICULUM.

OKAY. SO THE NEXT THING I WANT TO TALK ABOUT IS INSTRUCTION.

WE'VE TALKED ABOUT THE WRITTEN CURRICULUM.

NOW LET'S LOOK AT THE TALK CURRICULUM.

THE TALK CURRICULUM IS REALLY WHAT THE TEACHERS DO IN THE CLASSROOM EACH AND EVERY DAY.

AND SO OUR JOB AND PART OF OUR JUST CAUSE IS TO PROVIDE MEANINGFUL PROFESSIONAL LEARNING SO THAT WE CAN ENSURE THAT OUR TEACHERS HAVE THE BEST TOOLS AND RESOURCES SO THAT THEY CAN BE THE BEST INSTRUCTIONAL PEOPLE THEY CAN BE.

AND SO ONE OF THE THINGS WE DO THIS THROUGH IS THE PROCESS OF PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES AND.

IN PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES FOCUS ON THREE THINGS.

NUMBER ONE, IT'S ON LEARNING.

WE CAN TEACH IT ALL DAY, BUT IF THEY DON'T LEARN IT, THEN WE'VE GOT TO GO BACK AND REASSESS.

AND SO REALLY SHIFTING THAT FOCUS FROM, WELL, I TAUGHT IT, IT'S UP TO YOU TO MAKE SURE YOU GET IT.

SWITCHING THAT TO I'M GOING TO TEACH AND I'M GOING TO RETEACH UNTIL WE ACTUALLY LEARN THE MATERIAL.

THE SECOND THING IS A FOCUS ON COLLABORATION.

TEACHING DONE CORRECTLY IS THE HARDEST JOB IN THE WORLD, AND IT GETS HARDER EACH DAY BECAUSE OUR TEACHERS ARE TASKED WITH A LOT.

AND SO OUR JOB IS TO MAKE SURE WE USE THE POWER OF THE TEACHERS IN THE BUILDING TO LEARN FROM EACH OTHER, SUPPORT EACH OTHER, AND LET THEM KNOW THAT THEY'RE NOT EXPECTED TO DO THIS ON THEIR OWN.

AND THEN THE LAST THING IS JUST THEIR FOCUS ON RESULTS.

WHAT CAN WE DO EACH AND EVERY DAY TO ENSURE HIGH LEVELS OF LEARNING FOR ALL OF OUR STUDENTS? AND SO THAT PLC PROCESS WE ASK OUR TEACHERS TO TO GO THROUGH FOUR QUESTIONS.

THE FIRST QUESTION IS WHAT DO WE WANT KIDS TO KNOW? THAT'S THE WRITTEN CURRICULUM.

THE SECOND THING IS HOW WILL WE KNOW IF THEY'VE LEARNED IT? THOSE ARE ALL THOSE ASSESSMENTS THAT OUR DEPARTMENT OF INSTRUCTION CREATES.

IT'S THE MINI CHECKS, IT'S THE UNIT TEST.

BUT WE'VE GOT TO MAKE SURE ONCE WE'VE TAUGHT IT, WE'VE GOT TO SEE IF THEY LEARNED IT.

AND THEN WHAT DO WE DO IF THEY DON'T LEARN IT? THAT'S WHERE WE GO BACK AND WE INTERVENE.

AND THEN WHAT DO WE DO IF THEY ALREADY KNOW IT? AND THAT'S WHERE WE GO AND WE EXTEND THE LEARNING FOR THOSE STUDENTS.

AND SO THEN THE LAST PART OF OUR TRIANGLE IS THE WHOLE ACCOUNTABILITY PIECE.

AND WHEN WE TALK ABOUT ACCOUNTABILITY, WE KNOW A-F, AND THAT'S THE ONE WE'RE MOST FAMILIAR WITH.

BUT REALLY, OUR ACCOUNTABILITY DEPARTMENT REALLY FOCUSES ON VISION 2030.

THEY HELP US MEASURE THE GUIDING STATEMENTS.

THEY HELP US WITH OUR SCORECARD, AND THEY MAKE SURE WE'RE FOCUSED ON THINGS LIKE CMR AND MAKING SURE ALL OF OUR KIDS HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO BE LIVE COLLEGE AND CAREER READY.

THEY HELP US WITH MAP AND THAT MAP ASSESSMENT HELPS US ASSIST WITH INSTRUCTION IN THE CLASSROOM.

THEN THEY ALSO HELP WITH THINGS LIKE PSAT, SAT, AP, COLLEGE BOARD, FORMATIVE ASSESSMENTS THAT HAPPEN IN THE CLASSROOM, AND THEN THEY HOUSE ALL OF THAT IN EDUGENCE, WHERE WE HOUSE A LOT OF OUR ASSESSMENTS AND OUR SCORE CARDS.

SO OUR ACCOUNTABILITY DEPARTMENT IS SO MUCH MORE THAN JUST A-F, AND SO THIS HAS BEEN A REALLY QUICK SUMMARY OF OUR DEPARTMENT BECAUSE THERE'S A LOT THAT WE DO. BUT I REALLY WANTED TO FOCUS IN ON THAT CURRICULUM PIECE FOR YOU GUYS.

AND SO WITH THAT, I'LL OPEN IT UP FOR ANY QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE.

I WILL START ON THIS SIDE.

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? MR. DAVIS? MS. YOUNG, THANK YOU FOR THIS. THIS IS QUITE COMPREHENSIVE AND A GOOD, A GOOD GOOD LESSON TAUGHT AND RECEIVED.

THANK YOU. QUESTION ONCE A TEK IS CREATED, WE'VE KIND OF WALKED US THROUGH THAT PROCESS AS WELL AS HOW IT'S SHARED WITH OUR TEACHERS.

I'M JUST THINKING AS WE HEAR ABOUT CHANGES THAT HAPPEN THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, WHAT IS THAT RESPONSE TIME LOOK LIKE? SO FROM THE TIME THAT A TEK IS ADOPTED AT THE STATE LEVEL OR IS INTRODUCED TO THE TIME THAT IT ACTUALLY HAS GONE THROUGH, REWORKED BECAUSE YOU WERE VERY CLEAR THAT IT HAS TO BE REDONE, NOT A LINE CHANGE.

I TOOK THAT AS BEING SOMETHING SIGNIFICANTLY GREATER THAN THAT.

YES. TO ACTUALLY HITTING THE CLASSROOM.

THANKFULLY, WE GET SOME LEAD TIME.

AND SO TEA HAS A TIMELINE OF WHEN SUBJECT AREAS ARE UP FOR TEACHERS REVIEW.

ALSO, IT HAPPENS A LOT OF TIMES WHEN THEY'RE UP FOR TEXTBOOK ADOPTIONS.

AND SO ANY TIME THERE'S GOING TO BE ANY TYPE OF REWRITING OR REVISION OF THE TEKS, TEA NOTIFIES DISTRICTS, YOU HAVE OPPORTUNITY TO SEND IN COMMENTS.

THEY ASK FOR TEACHERS TO SERVE ON THOSE COMMITTEES AS WELL TO PROVIDE INPUT AND FEEDBACK.

[00:50:03]

BUT WE GET A PRETTY GOOD LEAD TIME FROM TEA ONCE THOSE CHANGES ARE MADE.

BUT THEN THE CHALLENGE IS TAKING ALL THOSE CHANGES AND THEN WORKING THEM THROUGH THE ENTIRE YEAR'S DOCUMENTS.

BUT THEY DO GIVE US LEAD TIME.

IT'S NOT LIKE THEY DO IT IN MAY AND WE HAVE TO IMPLEMENT IT IN AUGUST.

OKAY. THANK YOU.

ANYONE ELSE DOWN HERE? OH, DID YOU? OKAY. MS. ANDERSON? I JUST HAD A QUESTION. I KNOW THAT YOU MENTIONED ON ONE PORTION OF IT, AND I APPRECIATE THIS, ALTHOUGH I'M SO GLAD WHEN I CAME ON BOARD, YOU EXPLAINED ALL THIS TO ME BECAUSE I WAS LIKE, OH, MY GOODNESS. HOW DO YOU? THE QUESTION IS ON YOU HAD MADE A MENTION THAT WHENEVER YOU LOOK AT SOMETHING, YOU LOOK AT WHAT'S MOST IMPORTANT AND HOW TO IMPLEMENT THAT.

FIRST OF ALL, I WANT TO SAY I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT AND I HOPE THAT TEACHERS KNOW THAT TO KNOW THAT YOU'RE NOT IMPLEMENTING EVERYTHING BECAUSE WE'RE ALL TRYING TO REDUCE WORKLOAD PER SE.

BUT I GUESS THE QUESTION IS, IS THERE IS THERE WAS THERE ANY EVER A TIME WHERE THE TEA CAME IN AND SAID, NO, WE REALLY WANTED THIS IN THERE AND STARTED IMPLEMENTING MORE OR? BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE WE'VE DONE A GOOD JOB OF WRITING OUR OWN CURRICULUM AND THEN IMPLEMENTING IT AND GETTING, YOU KNOW, LIFE READY, IF YOU WILL.

AND I DON'T KNOW IF THAT'S EVER HAPPENED OR IF WE MIGHT.

I GUESS THE REASON I'M THINKING THAT I'LL LET YOU ANSWER AND I'LL TELL YOU WHY I WAS THINKING THAT.

OKAY. WELL, I THINK I UNDERSTAND YOUR QUESTION CORRECTLY.

TEA SAYS HERE ARE THE TEKS.

THEY TELL US THESE ARE READINESS TEKS.

THESE ARE SUPPORTING TEKS.

SO READINESS STANDARDS AND SUPPORTING STANDARDS, THE READINESS STANDARDS, THESE ARE THE STANDARDS THAT THEY HAVE TO KNOW AND BE ABLE TO DO TO BE READY FOR THE NEXT YEAR.

SO THOSE ARE KIND OF AUTOMATICALLY MOVE UP TO THE TOP IN TERMS OF IMPORTANCE.

BUT SOME OF THOSE READINESS STANDARDS HAVE THOSE SUPPORTING STANDARDS THAT KIDS NEED TO BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND TO GET TO THAT LEVEL.

SO IT'S REALLY A FINE BALANCING, BALANCING ACT OF MAKING SURE THE READINESS ONES ARE COVERED AND WE HAVE THE RIGHT SUPPORTING STANDARDS TO ENSURE THAT KIDS CAN GET TO THE READINESS LEVEL.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT TEA DOES IS THEY GIVE US TESTING BLUEPRINTS.

AND SO, FOR EXAMPLE, ALGEBRA ONE, WE KNOW THEY'RE GOING TO TAKE THE EOC EXAM AND THEY TELL US, YOU KNOW, FROM THESE DIFFERENT REPORTING CATEGORIES, THIS PERCENT OF THE TEST IS COMING FROM THESE.

AND SO THAT HELPS US ALSO PRIORITIZE THOSE STANDARDS AS WELL.

IF THERE IS A STANDARD THAT'S TAUGHT ONLY IN ONE GRADE AND NEVER TOUCHED AGAIN, THAT'S GOING TO BE LOW LEVEL PRIORITY FOR US.

BUT WE HAVE TO LOOK AT THE ENDURANCE OF HOW OFTEN THEY ARE SHOWN IN THE CURRICULUM K-12 AND THEN JUST MAKE DECISIONS AROUND ALL OF THOSE TO DETERMINE WHICH ONES RISE TO THE TOP IN TERMS OF BEING ESSENTIAL.

SO THE REASON WHY I WAS GOING THERE IS BECAUSE YOUR, YOU KNOW, YOUR GREEN PAGES, IT SEEMS LIKE WE CONTINUALLY DO BETTER THAN THE SURROUNDING CITIES, NUMBER ONE.

BUT THEN MORE IMPORTANTLY, EVEN IN OUR REGION AND I WONDERED HOW AND MAYBE WE HAVE IT AND I KNOW YOU MENTIONED THAT TEACHERS GET TO GET ON COMMITTEES AND THINGS OF THAT NATURE.

WHAT COULD BE THE NEXT LEVEL OF US, I GUESS, HAVING A BIGGER VOICE AT THAT TABLE? AND I DON'T KNOW IF YOU KNOW THE ANSWER TO THIS AND BEING ABLE TO GUIDE WHERE THEY'RE GOING NEXT, BECAUSE AS WE KNOW WHERE THEY'RE GOING WITH STAAR A LITTLE BIT, WE'RE FLOUNDERING A LITTLE BIT MEANING THE WHOLE STATE.

BUT LOOKING AT THOSE ISDS THAT ARE OBVIOUSLY ALWAYS OUTPERFORMING, DOING BETTER.

SO WE COULD HELP TWEAK THE TEKS, IF YOU WILL.

AND I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF THAT'S POSSIBLE.

AND THE STATE BOARD IS THE ONE THAT ADOPTS THE TEKS.

AND SO I THINK IT'S JUST MAKING SURE OUR VOICES ARE HEARD.

YOU KNOW, JUST LIKE IN EVERY LEGISLATIVE SESSION, THERE'S A NEED AT THAT POINT IN TIME TO RAMP UP AND MAKE SURE OUR VOICES ARE HEARD.

BUT I THINK JUST THAT CONSISTENT PRESENCE AT THE LEGISLATIVE LEVEL IS REALLY IMPORTANT FOR THAT.

AND LIKE I SAID, TEA DOES GIVE US LEAD TIME ON WHEN THEY'RE LOOKING AT REVISING.

AND SO JUST BEING PROACTIVE WHEN WE KNOW THOSE THINGS ARE COMING UP.

WELL, THANK YOU AND I REALLY APPRECIATE Y'ALL AND THE WHOLE DEPARTMENT.

SO THANK YOU. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE ON THIS END? OKAY. MS. FARRAR? THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE PRESENTATION AND FOR PROVIDING THE SAMPLE.

I'M A VERY VISUAL PERSON, SO WHEN I LOOKED AT THIS, WHEN I WAS KIND OF GETTING READY FOR TONIGHT, THIS JUST SHOWS THE DETAIL THAT YOU GUYS GO INTO MY QUESTION. AND SO THANK YOU FOR THAT.

MY QUESTION IS, ONCE THIS IS IMPLEMENTED IN THE CLASSROOM, HOW MUCH FLEXIBILITY DO THE TEACHERS HAVE? SO I KNOW LIKE WE CAN GO I CAN GO ONLINE AND LOOK, YOU KNOW, 11TH GRADE.

THIS IS WHAT MY SON IS LEARNING IN HIS SCIENCE CLASS RIGHT NOW.

BUT IN THE CLASSROOM, LIKE LET'S SAY THERE'S A TEACHER OR A CONCEPT THAT THE STUDENTS ARE STRUGGLING WITH IN THAT PARTICULAR CLASSROOM.

HOW MUCH FLEXIBILITY DO THE TEACHERS HAVE TO SPEND A LITTLE EXTRA TIME ON THAT TOPIC AND THEN MOVE ON?

[00:55:02]

OR ARE THEY EXPECTED TO STAY PRETTY CLOSE TO THE STANDARDS THAT ARE OUTLINED? WELL, I WILL TELL YOU THAT WE HAVE A SCOPE AND SEQUENCE AND WE HAVE A TIMELINE.

SO THROUGHOUT THE DOCUMENT, YOU'LL SEE SUGGESTED TIME THREE CLASS PERIODS OF 3 TO 4 CLASS PERIODS.

AND SO WE GIVE THEM A RANGE KNOWING THAT EVERY CLASSROOM IS DIFFERENT.

AND SO I WILL TELL YOU THAT THERE ARE SOME DISTRICTS THAT BY.

THEIR CURRICULUM, AND IT'S A CANNED CURRICULUM, WHICH MEANS AT THIS TIME YOU READ THIS SCRIPT, YOU SAY THIS, AND WE DON'T BELIEVE THAT THAT'S, FIRST OF ALL, GREAT FOR TEACHERS AND IT'S NOT GREAT FOR KIDS BECAUSE IT TAKES AWAY THE CREATIVITY OF IT AND IT TAKES AWAY THAT HUMAN ELEMENT.

AND SO OUR CURRICULUM DOCUMENTS ARE GUIDES, AND SOME OF OUR MORE SEASONED TEACHERS MAY NOT NEED AS MUCH OF A GUIDE AS A BRAND NEW TEACHER.

AND SO THERE IS FLEXIBILITY WITHIN THE SCOPE AND SEQUENCE AS LONG AS THEY'RE COVERING THOSE ESSENTIAL STANDARDS AND MAKING SURE THAT THE KIDS BY THE END OF THE YEAR HAVE THAT GUARANTEED CURRICULUM THAT WE HAVE FOR EVERY STUDENT.

WELL, AGAIN, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR DILIGENT WORK.

I APPRECIATE IT. THANK YOU.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE? WELL, YOU GUYS HAVE DONE A PHENOMENAL JOB.

AND I LOVE THE FACT THAT YOU GET TO GET UP HERE AND BRAG THAT Y'ALL ARE A LEAN, MEAN TEACHING MACHINE.

THANK YOU. SO CONGRATULATIONS ON THAT.

SO WE'LL GO TO ITEM EIGHT, OUR PRESENTATIONS.

[8. Presentation]

DR. CANTU? YES. I WOULD LIKE TO ASK MICHELE TRONGAARD TO COME FORWARD AND JUST GIVE US A BUDGET UPDATE.

WE ARE IN THAT TIME OF YEAR, BUT IT'S ALSO THE TIME OF YEAR WITH LEGISLATIVE SESSION WHERE WE HAVE A LOT OF--ARE WE OKAY? A LOT OF THINGS THAT ARE KNOWN.

WE'RE ALL GOOD.

THINGS THAT ARE KNOWN AND UNKNOWN.

AND SO MICHELE'S JUST GOING TO GO THROUGH SOME OF THOSE AND KIND OF LET YOU GUYS KNOW WHERE WE ARE.

MS. TRONGAARD? THANK YOU.

DR. CANTU, MADAM PRESIDENT LACKEY WILSON, BOARD OF DIRECTORS CABINET.

WE ARE PREPARING FOR OUR 2023-2024 BUDGET.

AND SO TONIGHT, HERE'S OUR BUDGET UPDATE AS WE GO INTO OUR STEPS AND WHERE ARE WE IN THE PROCESS? AND I LOVE THE FACT THAT I'M RIGHT AFTER THE ACADEMIC SIDE BECAUSE THANK YOU, JENNIFER YOUNG, ON YOUR PRESENTATION, BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE THE PARTNERSHIP REALLY IS, IS FINANCE AND ACADEMICS. IF THEY COME TOGETHER, IT'S A SUCCESS.

IT'S USUALLY A VERY SUCCESSFUL BECAUSE WE BOTH HAVE IN OUR PRESENTATIONS THAT WE WE REALLY FOCUS ON VISION 2030, LIFE READY, CAREER READY, COLLEGE READY. AND THEN WE HAVE BUDGET GOALS, WHICH IS RIGHT THERE IN THE MIDDLE IS THE MISSION OF MANSFIELD ISD TO INSPIRE AND EDUCATE STUDENTS TO BE PRODUCTIVE CITIZENS. AND THEN AROUND THAT IS ALL THE VALUES THAT SURROUND THAT.

AND THEN WHERE ARE WE IN OUR BUDGET CALENDAR? THIS IS WHAT WE PRESENTED BACK IN JANUARY.

SO LET'S GO WHERE WE ARE.

WE'RE SITTING HERE IN APRIL AND MAY.

WE'RE HERE TONIGHT TO DO A BUDGET UPDATE ON THE PRESENTATION.

WE HAVE RECEIVED OUR CERTIFIED ESTIMATE VALUES PROPERTY VALUES FROM TARRANT COUNTY.

RIGHT NOW IT'S REALLY HIGH.

SO WE KNOW IT'S GOING TO CHANGE BECAUSE THE PROTESTS ARE JUST NOW STARTING TO ROLL OUT.

LIKE YOU AND ME AS A TAXPAYER, WE'VE RECEIVED OUR STATEMENTS IN THE MAIL.

SO WE ALSO HAVE SOME PROPERTY TAX RELIEF BILLS THAT WE'RE GOING TO TOUCH ON TONIGHT THAT'S GOING TO CHANGE THAT NUMBER AS WELL.

SO THEN JUNE, WE DO THE PUBLIC NOTICE AND THEN ADOPT THE THE BUDGET AND THEN JULY, WE'RE NOT QUITE DONE YET BECAUSE JULY WE RECEIVED OUR CERTIFIED VALUES THAT ONCE THERE ARE ALL THE PROTESTS ARE HIT IN JULY HITS THOSE CERTIFIED VALUES FROM TARRANT JOHNSON JOHNSON COUNTY AND THEN AUGUST WE'RE GOING TO ADOPT THE TAX RATE. IT'S GOING TO BE A LITTLE BIT MORE COMPLICATED THIS YEAR.

AND I WANT TO WALK YOU THROUGH IT.

WE ARE STICKING WITH OUR BUDGET ASSUMPTIONS, WHICH MEANS OUR ENROLLMENT, 35,854.

THAT'S BASED ON OUR DEMOGRAPHERS, 124 MORE STUDENTS, AVERAGE DAILY ATTENDANCE.

WE'RE GOING TO KEEP IT AT A CONSERVATIVE 94.5%.

AND THEN I STILL HAVE THE 9% PROPERTY VALUES.

KEEP IN MIND THAT ANYTHING INCREASE IN PROPERTY VALUES IS PRETTY MUCH OFFSET WITH THE STATE AID AND INCREASE THERE AND ANY PROPERTY TAX RELIEF.

SO WHATEVER WE SAY IN PROPERTY VALUES INCREASE IS TYPICALLY NO NEW REVENUE FOR US.

REALLY, IT KIND OF IT NEUTRALIZES OUT.

AND THEN ON THE TAX RATE, WE'RE STILL THIS IS THE SAME SEQUENCE HERE, ADDITIONAL PROPERTY TAX RELIEF.

WELL, YOU KNOW, IF YOU'VE BEEN PAYING ATTENTION IN LEGISLATIVE SESSION, THAT'S HUGE.

THAT'S PROBABLY THEIR NUMBER ONE TO USE OF THE $33 BILLION SURPLUS AND THEN THE NEW HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION.

OR IS IT APPRAISAL CAP? CHANGE IN THE FLOOR TAX RATE.

THE DEADLINES FOR THIS IS BASICALLY WE'RE IN, WE'RE COMING UP ON MAY 8TH WOULD BE THE LAST DAY FOR THE HOUSE COMMITTEES TO REPORT OUT HOUSE

[01:00:05]

BILLS. THERE'S A LOT OF HOUSE BILLS GOING ON RIGHT NOW.

MAY THE 12TH IS THE LAST DAY FOR THE HOUSE TO TO CONSIDER THE HOUSE BILLS ON THE FLOOR.

AND REALLY DOWN TO THE BOTTOM IS THE SINE DIE DATE AND SAY THAT THREE TIMES FAST.

BUT THAT'S MAY 29TH, THE DEADLINE.

AND THAT MEANS WE MAY NOT KNOW A LOT.

UNTIL THE 30TH, YOU KNOW, AND IT COULD BE A SPECIAL SESSION.

SO LET'S LOOK AT THE TWO, WHAT THE MAIN BILLS ARE TO KEEP YOU HIGHLIGHTED AND WHAT WILL BENEFIT OR GO WHAT IS AFFECTING MANSFIELD ISD AS FAR AS THE SCHOOL FINANCE FORMULAS AND WHAT AFFECTS US.

HOUSE BILL 1 IS THE BUDGET SIDE ON THE HOUSE SIDE.

SO IT'S THE OVERALL BUDGET.

AND RIGHT NOW IF YOU LOOK PROPERTY TAX RELIEF, 3.118 BILLION, THAT'S THE CURRENT LAW THAT'S REQUIRED FOR THE REDUCTION, MEANING THAT NUMBER IS SAYING, OKAY, WE KNOW PROPERTY VALUES ARE GOING TO GO UP.

SO WE KNOW THAT WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO OFFSET THIS WITH STATE AID FOR THE TAX RATES THAT ARE GOING DOWN.

AND THEN THE SENATE SAYS, HEY, WE GET YOU, WE'RE GOING TO FOLLOW THE SAME THING.

WE WANT TO DO THE SAME THING.

AND THEN ON 2.156 BILLION FOR ADDITIONAL 7.756% AND THE MAXIMUM COMPRESSED TAX RATES, MOST DISTRICTS HAVE ALREADY HIT THE FLOOR. SO MEANING WHAT I MEAN BY THAT, THERE'S A GAP THAT SAYS, OKAY, DISTRICTS HAVE TO STAY WITH THIS LOW TAX RATE AND THIS HIGH TAX RATE AND 90% EQUITY GAP IS WHAT THEY CALL IT EQUITY BAND.

AND WE'RE AT THE FLOOR RIGHT HERE.

SO THAT'S BECAUSE PROPERTY VALUES HAVE GONE UP SO HIGH ALL AROUND US.

AND THIS IS MOST 700 DISTRICTS IN THE STATE HAVE HIT THIS FLOOR.

SO THE STATE SAYS, OKAY, WE CAN'T IF WE KEEP GOING HIGH IN OUR PROPERTY VALUES, WE'VE GOT TO GET LOWER THAN THE FLOOR.

THIS ALLOWS US TO DO THAT.

SO IT ALLOWS THE TAXPAYERS TO BE ABLE TO HAVE A LESS TAX RATE BECAUSE OF THIS AMENDMENT THEY'RE TRYING TO DO.

AND THEN HOUSE BILL TWO, THEY'RE LOOKING AT 12 BILLION FOR THAT.

THE SENATE SIDE SAYS 9.831 BILLION ON SENATE BILL 2,3,4 AND 5 ON THE SCHOOL FINANCE SIDE FOR HOUSE AND THE SENATE SIDE IS A 2.4 BILLION FOR THE GOLDEN PENNY INCREASE.

AND THANKFULLY FOR THAT VATRE THAT WAS PASSED IN NOVEMBER 2021, WE'RE ABLE TO MONOPOLIZE AND MAXIMIZE ON THAT GOLDEN PENNY INCREASE. SO WE'RE THANKFUL FOR THAT.

AND THEN 5 BILLION ON THE SCHOOL FINANCE CHANGES.

SO THIS IS WHERE THINGS GET REALLY DIFFERENT IS WHAT THEY WANT TO DO WITH THE 5 BILLION.

OKAY. ON THE SENATE BILL 30, THIS IS THE SENATE SIDE OF WHAT THEY'RE TRYING TO DO.

AS FAR AS THE BUDGET'S PERSPECTIVE, LOOK AT THE BIG DIFFERENCE IN SCHOOL SAFETY, 1.6 BILLION ON THE HOUSE SIDE AND AND THEN 600 MILLION FOR SCHOOL SAFETY. THE HOUSE SIDE HAS BEEN GOING ON.

THEY'VE BEEN HAVING AMENDMENTS AND DISCUSSING.

AND WE'LL TALK ABOUT THOSE BILLS BRIEFLY HERE IN A MINUTE.

100 MILLION FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION EVALUATIONS, HOUSE SIDE AND THEN 4.4 BILLION FOR TEACHERS BENEFIT ENHANCEMENTS.

AND WHAT THAT MEANS IS LIKE COLAS THEY WERE LOOKING AT ON THE HOUSE SIDE, A $5,000 SUPPLEMENT.

BUT FOR THOSE THAT ARE RETIREES, 70 PLUS, BUT THEY DO WOULD RAISE, THEY ALSO RAISE THE MEMBERS CONTRIBUTION, THE ONES THAT ARE ACTIVE MEMBERS IN TEACHERS TO 9%.

SO THERE'S A BIGGER DIFFERENCE ON THE HOUSE SIDE THAN IT IS ON THE SENATE SIDE.

SAME THING WITH SENATE SIDE IS THAT RETIRED BEFORE 2013, A 4% INCREASE IN ANNUITY.

AND IF YOU WERE 2013 TO 21, A 2%.

THIS IS THE VISUAL I LIKE.

IT'S THE HOUSE SIDE VERSUS THE SENATE SIDE AND ALL THE DIFFERENT BILLS THAT ARE OUT THERE.

YOU CAN SEE THE PROPERTY TAXES, THE ESAS, THE TEACHER VACANCY TASK FORCE, THE SAFETY, THE TWO BILLS THAT ARE ON THE HOUSE SIDE AND THE ONE ON THE SENATE SIDE, INSTRUCTION MATERIALS AND SCHOOL FINANCE.

YOU NOTICE HOUSE BILL 100 IS THE MAIN FOCUS IN THE HOUSE SIDE THAT'S MOVING QUICKLY ON THAT SIDE.

THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO ALSO IS THE PROPERTY TAX RELIEF AND HOW THEY WANT TO DO IT.

ON THE HOUSE SIDE, THEY BOTH SAY ADDITIONAL TIER ONE TAX, TIER ONE TAX RATE COMPRESSION, MEANING NOT JUST THE FLOOR, THEY'RE ACTUALLY SAYING LET'S DROP IT EVEN MORE AND THAT COULD BE $0.15, IT COULD BE $0.25.

WE'RE TRYING TO WAIT FOR THE FINAL.

AND REMEMBER, ANYTHING COULD CHANGE AT THE STROKE OF A PEN.

SO WE'RE STILL IN THE MIDST OF ALL OF THIS.

BUT THAT'S WHAT I'VE SEEN, 5% APPRAISAL CAP ON ALL THE REAL PROPERTIES.

[01:05:04]

THIS IS A BIG CHANGE FROM THE 10% APPRAISAL CAP FOR ONLY RESIDENTIAL HOMESTEADS THAT WE CURRENTLY HAVE IN THE LAW.

THE TOTAL COST ON THE HOUSE SIDE WOULD BE $17.3 BILLION.

THE SENATE SIDE IS TRYING TO DO THE HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION FROM TWO 70,000 OVER 65 DISABLED TO 30,000.

IT ADDS A BUSINESS PERSONAL PROPERTY.

THE EXEMPTION AND IT COSTS ABOUT $16.5 BILLION.

WHAT IS DIFFERENT HERE ON THE SENATE SIDE, THIS IS I HAD TO ASK TWICE WHO I WAS LEARNING THIS FROM TO SAY, AM I HEARING YOU RIGHT? AND SO SENATE BILL THREE INCREASES THE HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION FROM 40 TO 70,000, WHICH WE JUST STATED A MINUTE AGO.

AND IT ALSO INCREASES THE EXEMPTION FOR OVER 65 AND DISABLED FROM 10,000 TO 30,000.

IT'S RETROACTIVE, MEANING IT HAS TO GO TO A NOVEMBER VOTE BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT WE DO ON THE EXEMPTIONS.

IT GOES OUT TO NOVEMBER VOTE, BUT IT HAS TO GO BACK AND GO AGAINST THE THE THE PROPERTY TAXES FOR THIS YEAR, THIS 2023 GOING INTO 2024.

SO DO THE MATH.

TRY TO LOOK AT YOUR CALENDAR AND GO, OKAY, WE'RE ADOPTING THE TAX RATE IN AUGUST.

RIGHT. AND THEN WE HAVE TO WE WILL BE ADOPTING THE TAX RATE.

IF YOU NOTICE, IT SAYS TRUTH IN TAXATION.

TAX RATES WILL BE CALCULATED AND ADOPTED ASSUMING THE NEW EXEMPTION LEVELS.

SO IN OTHER WORDS, WE WILL BE ADOPTING IF THIS SENATE SITE PASSES ON THE EXEMPTION, WE'LL BE ADOPTING A TAX RATE WITH THE ASSUMPTION OF THE EXEMPTIONS PASSING.

SO I MADE SURE THAT WAS CLEAR.

BUT THAT IS CURRENTLY WHAT'S IN THE BILL.

THE APPRAISAL SIDE.

ON THE APPRAISAL CAP SIDE, THEY DON'T, IT'S EFFECTIVE THE FOLLOWING YEAR.

SO THIS IS A VERY INTERESTING DIFFERENCE HERE.

THIS IS THE MOST RECOGNIZED HOUSE BILL SCHOOL FINANCE SIDE.

IT WAS VOTED FROM COMMITTEE IN THE FIRST CHAMBER AND IT'S SET ON THE HOUSE CALENDAR FOR TOMORROW.

SO IF YOU WANT TO BE ENTERTAINED, IT'S THE INCREASE IN THE BASIC ALLOTMENT.

CURRENTLY, OUR BASIC ALLOTMENT IS 6,160.

AND THIS ONE INCREASES IT TO 90.

FOR THE PAST 3 OR 4 YEARS, SINCE 2019, IT'S BEEN 6,160 AND WHAT'S HAPPENED WITH INFLATION.

SO WE NEED A LITTLE HELP.

WE NEED A LOT OF HELP.

AND $90 IS NOT YOUR INFLATION NUMBER.

IT'S MORE LIKE 7000 WOULD BE YOUR NEW BASIC ALLOTMENT.

SO BUT FOR US, A $90 INCREASE WOULD BE ABOUT $4 MILLION.

AND THEN IF YOU LOOK AT FOR THE NEXT FOLLOWING YEAR, THEY'RE LOOKING AT 6,300 AS A BASIC ALLOTMENT.

THE DIFFERENCE HERE IS THE SIMILAR TO WHAT THEY DID IN HOUSE BILL THREE UNDER 2019 THAT WE WOULD REQUIRE US TO HAVE 50% OF THE GAIN BE USED FOR SALARY INCREASES FOR TEACHERS, COUNSELORS, NURSES AND LIBRARIANS.

AND THEN THE CHANGE IN THE SPECIAL PROGRAM ALLOTMENTS SUCH AS, SO THEY DID TRY TO DO A LITTLE BIT OF THE ENROLLMENT FACTOR IN HERE VERSUS AN AVERAGE DAILY ATTENDANCE. SO YOUR BILINGUAL IS AN AVERAGE DAILY ATTENDANCE AT EARLY EDUCATION ALLOTMENT IS AN AVERAGE DAILY ATTENDANCE.

THOSE TYPE OF PROGRAMS WOULD GO TO FTES OR REGULAR ENROLLMENT.

SO THAT'S A GOOD THAT'S A GOOD THING.

IT'S A LITTLE BIT OF AN INCREASE.

THAT DOESN'T MEAN OUR REGULAR OUR REGULAR PROGRAM WOULD STILL GET AVERAGE DAILY ATTENDANCE, AN UPDATED TO SPECIAL ED FUNDING INCREASE IN TRANSPORTATION FUNDING FROM RIGHT NOW.

WE CURRENTLY GET A DOLLAR A MILE.

THIS WOULD GO TO $1.54 A MILE IN REGULAR ED AND $1.28 A MILE IN SPECIAL ED.

THAT'S HUGE.

AND WHEN YOU'RE A 94 SQUARE MILE DISTRICT.

JEFF BROGDON, MR. BROGDON AND I WERE LIKE, YAY! SO WE GOT WE GOT THINGS TO DO WITH THAT.

SO WE WERE THRILLED TO SEE THAT, ESPECIALLY WITH THE FUEL COSTS GOING UP AS WELL, CREATE A NEW MATH PATHWAYS ALLOTMENT AND THE NEW FINE ARTS ALLOTMENT.

WE'LL WAIT FOR THAT INFO ANOTHER TIME AND THEN SOME OTHER SCHOOL FUNDING CHANGES CONSIDERED AS SENATE BILL 9.

THE SENATE SIDE WANTS TO DO A ONE TIME PAYMENT, ONE TIME PAYMENT OF $2,000 TO TEACHERS WITH MORE THAN 20,000 STUDENTS.

AND IF YOU HAVE LESS THAN 20,000, YOU GET 6000.

AND THEN ON THE SCHOOL SAFETY ALLOTMENT.

HOUSE BILL 3, HOUSE BILL 13, SENATE BILL 11.

AND WE WERE VERY THRILLED THAT REPRESENTATIVE CHRIS TURNER'S OFFICE REACHED OUT TO US YESTERDAY AND AND AS HOUSE BILL 13 WAS BEING AND 3 WAS BEING BROUGHT

[01:10:02]

UP INTO THE COMMITTEE, WE WERE ABLE TO SHARE, YOU KNOW, OUR OUR CONCERNS ABOUT PROVIDING SOME FLEXIBILITY AND FUNDING.

AND CURRENTLY AND DAVID WRIGHT AND I WORKED ON GIVING OUR PROPOSAL TO HIM CURRENTLY IT WAS AT $10 AVERAGE DAILY ATTENDANCE.

AND BY THE TIME THE AMENDMENT WAS DONE, WE ASKED FOR MORE MONEY BECAUSE WE AS A DISTRICT REALLY NEED ABOUT $200 AVERAGE DAILY ATTENDANCE IN OUR SCHOOL SAFETY ALLOTMENT.

THAT ONE IS NOW MOVED UP TO $100 FROM FROM THE $10.

SO THEY ALSO ARE ADDING 15,000, I THINK, PER CAMPUS THAT WAS ALSO IN THERE.

BUT THEY'RE NOT DONE YET.

THEY'RE STILL WORKING ON IT.

NEW INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS ALLOTMENT.

AND LET'S SEE HERE, THESE ARE THINGS THAT WE WANTED YOU ALL TO BE AWARE OF THAT THERE'S A LOT OF NOT SURE OF WHAT THEY WANT US TO DO IN THE COMPENSATION PLANS.

THIS WAS MENTIONED EARLIER IN THE HOUSE BILL 100 WITH THE TEACHERS, NURSES, LIBRARIANS, COUNSELORS, SIMILAR TO 2019 AND THEN SENATE BILL NINE HAS THE LANGUAGE AS WELL.

I'M NOT GOING TO READ IT SO WE WON'T HAVE THE FINAL LANGUAGE OF WHAT WE'RE SUPPOSED TO DO AND PROBABLY TILL THE END OF MAY UNTIL THEY'RE DONE.

AND THEN TEA MAY INTERPRET IT FOR US AND IT MIGHT TAKE A LITTLE BIT LONGER.

SO THAT'S WHERE WE ARE WITH THAT.

WHAT WE KNOW, WE KNOW CURRENT LAW FORMULAS.

WE KNOW WHAT WE KNOW NOW.

WE KNOW WHAT WE GAVE TEA FOR OUR ATTENDANCE PROJECTIONS.

THAT'S WHAT THEY USE IN THEIR NUMBERS WHEN THEY SAY, HEY, THIS IS WHAT HOUSE BILL 100 IS GOING TO DO TO YOUR DISTRICT.

WELL, THAT WAS WHAT WE GAVE THEM TWO YEARS AGO OR OVER A YEAR AGO.

IT MIGHT BE A VERY DIFFERENT STORY WITH OUR BUDGET TODAY.

SO THERE'S ALLOWED THERE'S A TAX RATE.

WE DON'T KNOW THAT ONE YET.

WE DON'T KNOW THE PROPERTY VALUES IN 88TH LEGISLATIVE CHANGES.

THESE ARE VERY SIMILAR TO A LEGISLATIVE YEAR, BUT THERE'S A LITTLE BIT MORE UNKNOWNS, I THINK, TO GET THERE AND THEN WHEN WILL WE KNOW? SO PROPERTY VALUES ARE CERTIFIED NUMBERS I MENTIONED EARLIER, THEY'RE AFTER THE BUDGET.

YOU SEE ALL THESE OUTSIDE THE BUDGET ADOPTION DATE.

SO WE'RE GOING TO DO OUR BEST WITH ASSUMING A LOT OF THINGS AS MUCH AS WE CAN.

ENROLLMENT. THAT'S A, THE SNAPSHOT DATE IS OCTOBER 27TH.

THAT'S WHEN WE GET FUNDING FOR THE BUDGET THAT WE ASK YOU TO ADOPT IN JUNE.

IT'S A LEGISLATIVE YEAR.

WE WON'T KNOW THAT UNTIL MAY 29TH.

FINAL PROPERTY TAX RELIEF.

AND THEN IF THERE'S A NOVEMBER ELECTION AND THEN YOU KNOW WHAT THE NEW TAX RATE IS GOING TO BE, WE WANT YOU TO BE AWARE OF THE INFLATIONARY COSTS.

A LOT OF DISTRICTS ARE SHARING THIS.

WHAT'S HAPPENED SINCE 2019 ON THE FUEL HAS GONE UP 83%.

GENERAL INSURANCE POLICIES, YOUR PROPERTY INSURANCE OUT OF THIS WORLD, 105% UTILITIES 11% AND EMPLOYEE COMPENSATION IS 10%.

SO WHAT'S NEXT? IF WE HAVE A LOT MORE INFORMATION, WE CAN DO A BUDGET WORKSHOP.

THAT'S THE PLAN. MAY 16TH, A SPECIAL CALLED BOARD MEETING MAY 23RD, IF THAT'S THE BETTER DATE TO HAVE SOMETHING.

OR AS WE GET TO KNOW MORE INFORMATION, MAY 23RD COULD BE POSSIBLE AS WELL AS A BUDGET UPDATE.

THEN WE GOT TO GET TO THE ADOPTED BUDGET.

SO SOMEHOW BETWEEN NOW AND THEN, WE'RE GOING TO GET SOME MORE INFORMATION TO YOU ALL TO HELP US DEVELOP A BEAUTIFUL BUDGET.

AND AUGUST 22ND IS ADOPT THE TAX RATE.

AND THEN IF YOU IF YOU WANT TO CONTACT YOUR LEGISLATORS OR YOU WANT TO FOLLOW THESE BILLS, THERE'S A NICE, BEAUTIFUL LINK.

AND SO, DR.

CANTU, I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO YOU FIRST.

THANK YOU. FIRST OF ALL, AS YOU ALL CAN TELL, THERE ARE SO MANY MOVING PARTS.

MORE SO THIS YEAR THAN EVER.

AND I FEEL LIKE EVERY LEGISLATIVE SESSION WE SAY THAT.

BUT THIS IS REALLY A FOCUS RIGHT NOW OF THIS OF THIS SESSION.

AND SO THERE ARE A TON OF MOVING PARTS.

I WANT TO THANK MICHELE AND HER TEAM JUST FOR YOUR EFFORTS WITH ALL THE KNOWNS AND ALL THE UNKNOWNS AND BALANCING THOSE.

BUT NO MATTER WHERE WE LAND, WHEREVER IT LANDS IN THE END, I KNOW THAT WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A PLAN, RIGHT? WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A POSITIVE PLAN TO MOVE FORWARD.

BUT ONE THING THAT MAYBE SOME OF OUR STAFF MEMBERS, EMPLOYEES MIGHT BE WONDERING THAT THEY NORMALLY MIGHT BE HEARING A LITTLE BIT ABOUT AT THIS TIME IS WHAT ABOUT THE RACES? RIGHT. WHERE ARE WE WITH THAT? I JUST WANT TO TAKE A MOMENT TO SAY THAT I KNOW MYSELF AND EVERYONE THAT THAT WE SIT UP HERE TOGETHER RECOGNIZES ALL OF THE INCREDIBLE HARD WORK THAT OUR STAFF PUTS IN EVERY DAY, FROM OUR TEACHERS TO OUR OTHER PROFESSIONALS, TO OUR AIDES, AUXILIARY DEPARTMENT AND EVERYONE IN

[01:15:03]

BETWEEN. I COULD GO THROUGH THE LIST, BUT IT MIGHT TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF TIME.

BUT I MEAN, NO MATTER WHERE YOU WORK IN MANSFIELD ISD, YOU'RE WORKING YOUR TAIL OFF AND OUR TEACHERS ARE WORKING THEIR TAILS OFF.

AND SO WE JUST WANT I JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT WE ARE WORKING AS HARD AS WE CAN TO PROVIDE THE BEST, MOST COMPETITIVE RAISE THAT WE POSSIBLY CAN AND JUST FOR THE BEST OUTCOME FOR ALL OF OUR EMPLOYEES.

SO THERE'S JUST A LOT OF MOVING PARTS RIGHT NOW.

WHEN WE GET TO THAT POINT, WHAT WE WANT TO DO IS WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WHEN WE GET THERE, WE KNOW THAT WE'RE ACTUALLY THERE AND IT'S REAL, AND THEN WE'LL BE ABLE TO TO PROVIDE THAT INFORMATION.

BUT MICHELLE AND HER TEAM ARE EXTREMELY DILIGENT AND WORKING HARD TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU FOR THAT CLARIFICATION ON THAT.

I WILL SIT ON THIS SIDE THIS TIME.

IS THERE ANY QUESTIONS FROM TRONGAARD? MS. THOMAS? I WAS JUST GOING TO SAY THANK YOU FOR I KNOW IT'S NOT EASY WHEN YOU'RE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT A BUDGET AND YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO GET.

SO YOU'VE ALWAYS DONE A REALLY GOOD JOB IN THE PAST, SO THANK YOU AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR TEAM TO LOOKING OUT FOR OUR TEACHERS AND STUFF.

I KNOW IT'S NOT EASY, SO I APPRECIATE ALL THE WORK THAT GOES INTO THAT.

SO THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

ANYONE? MS. FARRAR? YEAH, THANK YOU SO MUCH.

I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW YOU KEEP UP WITH ALL OF THIS STUFF, SO GOD BLESS YOU BECAUSE YOU, YOU GUYS DO AN AMAZING JOB.

I DO HAVE A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS REAL QUICK.

IF WE GO BACK TO THE PROPERTY TAX RELIEF UNDER THE SENATE, I DON'T KNOW WHAT SLIDE THAT WAS, BUT YOU WERE BASICALLY TALKING ABOUT THE HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION GOING FROM 40 TO 70,000 AND THEN AN ADDITIONAL EXEMPTION FOR OVER 65.

OKAY. SO IF THAT I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE I'M FOLLOWING THIS CORRECTLY.

SO IF IT PASSES THROUGH THE SENATE, IT WILL GO TO A VOTE IN NOVEMBER, BUT WE WOULD ADOPT A BUDGET ASSUMING THAT IT IS ADOPTED IN NOVEMBER.

WHAT HAPPENS IF LET'S JUST SAY IT'S NOT ADOPTED, WHAT WOULD THAT LOOK LIKE? WOULD THAT AFFECT OUR BUDGET FOR THAT YEAR? WOULD WE? HOW DOES ALL OF THAT WORK? OKAY, SO LET'S START WITH IF LEGISLATION DOESN'T APPROVE THIS ONE.

NO. IF THEY DO, SO IF THEY DO AND THEN IT GOES IN, THEN JUST MAKE SURE I'M FOLLOWING YOU CORRECTLY.

SO IF THEY THEY APPROVE THIS AND THEN IT GOES, IF THEY APPROVE IT, IT GOES TO A VOTE IN NOVEMBER.

IS THAT CORRECT? CORRECT. OKAY.

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT DOESN'T GET? SO THEN WE WOULD ADOPT, WE WOULD GO AHEAD AND MOVE FORWARD ADOPTING A BUDGET, ASSUMING THAT IT'S GOING TO PASS IN NOVEMBER? RIGHT. IS THAT CORRECT? OKAY. WHAT HAPPENS? WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF IT DOESN'T PASS IN NOVEMBER? WHAT KIND OF IMPACT WOULD THAT HAVE, SOMETHING LIKE THAT HAVE ON THE DISTRICT? SO THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION BECAUSE I WAS LIKE, HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO PUZZLE THROUGH THIS? MY ASSUMPTION I'M MAKING A BIG ASSUMPTION HERE, BUT MY THOUGHT I DON'T KNOW FOR A FACT, SO I'M GOING TO PUT THAT OUT THERE.

MY THOUGHT WOULD BE THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO GO AND GET THEY WOULD HAVE TO HAVE NEW TAX STATEMENTS SENT BACK OUT.

THEY DON'T PUT IT OUT THERE.

AND THEN WE WOULD AMEND THE BUDGET AND THE STATE WOULD MAKE UP FOR THE DIFFERENCE.

THAT'S KIND OF WHAT I WAS THINKING.

YES. SO THEY THE FORMULA WOULD HAVE TO CHANGE.

RIGHT. THEY WOULD HAVE TO PITCH IT.

OKAY. RIGHT. AND THEN ONE OTHER QUESTION BACK TO THE AVERAGE DAILY ATTENDANCE.

I THINK YOU MENTIONED THAT CERTAIN POPULATIONS THEY WERE LOOKING AT DOING THAT.

ARE THEY NOT LOOKING AT SWITCHING IT OVER TO TOTAL ENROLLMENT OR DO WE KNOW WHERE WE'RE AT ON THAT? IS THAT NOT LOOKING LIKE.

NO, IT'S NOT LOOKING GOOD ON THAT ONE.

I HAVEN'T SEEN ANOTHER BILL THAT GIVES IT COMPLETE ENROLLMENT.

I HAVEN'T EITHER. AND SO THAT'S WHY I WAS WONDERING IF YOU HAD SEEN ANYTHING.

THERE WAS SOME OUT THERE IN THE BEGINNING, BUT I THINK THEY'VE GONE.

DR. SCOTT, HAVE YOU SEEN ANYTHING? YEAH. THOSE THAT THAT FUND PER PUPIL HAVE NOT MOVED HAVE NOT REALLY MOVED.

LIKE YOU SAID, THERE ARE POPULATIONS WITHIN THAT THAT THEY ARE BEGINNING TO DO.

LOOK AT THAT SORT OF SORT OF THING.

OKAY, THAT'S ALL I GOT. THANK YOU.

ANYONE ELSE ON THIS SIDE? OKAY, LET'S SEE.

OKAY. WELL, I THINK MS. FARRAR SAID IT ALL. THANK YOU, GUYS, AND GOD BLESS YOU.

[9. Discussion]

I JUST HOPE THAT OUR COMMUNITY DOES SEE THAT THE AMOUNT OF EFFORT THAT WE ARE TRYING TO TO IMPROVE OURSELVES.

AND SO I DO KNOW THAT ON OUR BOARD REPORT YOU'LL SEE THAT WE DO HAVE HIGHER EXPECTATIONS IN WHAT'S REQUIRED BY THE STATE.

SO, OKAY, SO THIS TAKES US TO.

I'M TIRED. NO, I'M KIDDING.

OKAY. ITEM 9.2, OUR BOARD OPERATING PROCEDURES.

I WOULD JUST LIKE TO SAY THAT OUR COMMITTEE FOR THIS CONSISTS OF WARREN DAVIS, MICHELLE NEWSOM AND DESIREE THOMAS.

AND I'LL ASK DESIREE THOMAS IF THERE'S ANY UPDATES ON OUR BOARD OPERATING PROCEDURES.

NOT CURRENTLY. WE'RE IN THE FINAL STAGES OF REVIEWING THAT, BUT WE DO PLAN TO HAVE THAT ON THE MAY PROBABLY CALLED MEETING AGENDA TO VOTE.

SO WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO HAVE IT OUT TO THE WHOLE BOARD TOO.

SO YOU YOU'LL HAVE LIKE TWO WEEKS TO LOOK THROUGH ANY CHANGES THAT WE'VE DONE BEFORE WE GET TO THE MEETING.

OKAY. THANK YOU.

I JUST HAVE ONE LITTLE THING TO SAY SINCE I HAVE THE MICROPHONE, AND I KNOW MS. ATWOOD HAS LEFT, BUT I JUST WANTED TO SAY A LITTLE THANK YOU AND A SHOUT OUT TO HER BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN WANTING TO SEE OUR LITTLE FFA KIDS UP HERE BEING RECOGNIZED FOR A LONG, LONG TIME.

SO I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO HER.

THANK YOU TO ELIZABETH CARMODY AND DONALD WILLIAMS OFFICE, BECAUSE I KNOW I'VE KIND OF NAGGED THEM ABOUT THAT.

SO THANK YOU GUYS FOR GETTING OUR FFA KIDS UP HERE TO RECOGNIZE TODAY.

BY THE WAY, DONALD WOULDN'T RESPOND WHEN SHE SAID, I NAGGED YOU.

SO NOW WE'LL MOVE TO ITEM TEN, OUR PUBLIC COMMENTS.

[10. Public Comments]

THE CORRECT PROCEDURE FOR ADDRESSING THE BOARD DURING PUBLIC COMMENTS IS AS FOLLOWS EACH SPEAKER SHOULD ADDRESS THE BOARD FROM THE PODIUM, MICROPHONE AND STATE HIS OR HER NAME BEFORE SPEAKING.

ALL SPEAKERS WILL BE LIMITED TO THREE MINUTES TO MAKE COMMENTS REGARDING ITEMS ON THE AGENDA UNLESS MODIFIED BY THE BOARD PRESIDENT BASED ON BOARD POLICY BED.

LOCAL COPIES OF THE PRESENTATION SHOULD BE MADE AVAILABLE TO ALL TRUSTEES AND THE SUPERINTENDENT.

BOARD POLICY PROHIBITS THE DISCUSSION OF COMPLAINTS AGAINST DISTRICT EMPLOYEES DURING AN OPEN FORUM.

SO ARE THERE ANY OTHERS? AND THE ONES I HAVE, MS. MOYE? OKAY. AND THE FIRST ONE IS SAM MACADA.

HELLO, EVERYONE. MY NAME IS SAM MACADA.

I'M JUST COMING ON BEHALF OF A AS A FATHER AND A OF A SON WHO'S AUTISTIC, WHO'S IN THE CURRENTLY IN THE VOWS PROGRAM AT BRANDON NORWOOD. THIS YEAR WE HAD AN ARD MEETING IN THE VERY BEGINNING OF THE YEAR, AND I THINK IT WAS CARSON BACK HERE.

SHE WAS THERE.

I APPRECIATE EVERYTHING THE TEACHERS ARE DOING.

BUT HALFWAY INTO THE YEAR, ACTUALLY JANUARY 11TH WAS ONE OF THE TEACHERS THAT WAS IN HIS CLASS HAD LEFT.

AND SINCE THEN THE RATIO FROM 2 TO 1 FOR THE SPECIAL NEEDS HAS BEEN GONE.

[01:25:04]

IT'S BASICALLY NOW TWO TEACHERS PER THREE KIDS.

AND I'M JUST REALLY TRYING TO ADVOCATE FOR THE PARAPROFESSIONALS TO MAYBE GET ABLE TO GET HIRED.

I UNDERSTAND WITH THE PAY RATE BEING SO LOW AT $14 AN HOUR AND SOME CHANGE THAT IT'S HARD FOR, YOU KNOW, FOR THE SCHOOL DISTRICT TO COMPETE WITH THE IN AND OUTS OR ANYTHING ELSE THAT'S PAYING 18, $20 AN HOUR.

AND I MEAN WE KNOW ALL THE TEACHERS ARE DOING EVERYTHING THEY CAN.

WE KNOW THEY'RE ALL UNDERPAID.

BUT I MEAN, JUST SITTING THERE REALLY JUST WANT TO ADVOCATE FOR THE TEACHERS TO, YOU KNOW, BE ABLE TO HAVE SOME PARAPROFESSIONALS TO HELP MY SON.

FOR INSTANCE, I MEAN, HE ONLY GOES TILL 12 AND I PULL HIM OUT TO TAKE HIM TO ABA THERAPY JUST BECAUSE OF THE EVER SINCE WE STARTED IN 2020.

IT WAS KIND OF A WEIRD YEAR.

AND, YOU KNOW, RIGHT AFTER THE COVID HIT.

AND SO WE'VE JUST WE'VE KEPT THEM ONLY GOING HALF A DAY.

BUT RIGHT NOW, CURRENTLY, I MEAN, HE'S ONLY GOING FOUR HOURS A DAY AND HE REALLY CAN'T GET THE EDUCATION HE'S TRYING TO GET.

UM, AND I'M JUST REALLY JUST TRYING TO DO EVERYTHING I CAN FOR HIM.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT I CAN DO TO I MEAN, OBVIOUSLY, I MEAN, WE'RE TALKING ABOUT BUDGETS HERE AND WE NEED MORE BUDGET FOR THE SCHOOL.

I DON'T KNOW IF THERE'S ANYTHING I COULD DO TO REACH OUT FOR THE STATE ON BEHALF OF, YOU KNOW, MANSFIELD.

I'LL BE GLAD TO.

JUST LOOKING FOR SOME HELP, ANYTHING THAT WE CAN DO.

AND I THINK, YOU KNOW, MS. CANTU. I KIND OF, YOU KNOW, TWO YEARS AGO, I REACHED OUT TO YOU.

WE KIND OF HAD AN ISSUE ABOUT MY SON JUST LAYING THERE, JUST PLAYING ON HIS IPAD FOR 35% OF THE TIME IN CLASS.

AND I MEAN, RIGHT NOW, JUST BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE ENOUGH HELP.

SO I'M JUST TRYING TO ADVOCATE FOR THE SCHOOLS TO, YOU KNOW, TRY TO REACH OUT.

I UNDERSTAND THAT IT'S HARD TO GET PEOPLE TO WORK THESE DAYS.

I MEAN, I'M IN CONSTRUCTION AND TRYING TO FIND THE RIGHT PEOPLE TO COME IN TO WORK NO MATTER WHAT YOU OFFER.

IT'S LIKE NOBODY'S WANTING TO WORK.

BUT ANYTHING THAT WE CAN DO OR I CAN DO TO HELP OUT, REACHING OUT TO THE, YOU KNOW, THE STATE HOUSE OR ANYTHING, JUST PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

I'LL BE GLAD TO.

AND ONCE AGAIN, MY NAME IS SAM.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

OUR NEXT SPEAKER IS PAM EASON.

THANK YOU. I'M PAM EASON.

I WANT TO TAKE AN OPPORTUNITY TO WALK US BACK SOME MONTHS TO THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR ON JANUARY THE 8TH.

THE DAY BEFORE STUDENTS RETURN FROM CHRISTMAS BREAK, OUR SCHOOL, DP MORRIS, WAS PARTIALLY FLOODED.

THE BUILDING WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED.

AND SO SOME OF YOU WERE VERY QUICKLY TO PUT PLANS INTO PLACE TO ALLOW US TO BE HOUSED AT GIDEON AND BROCKETT ELEMENTARIES.

WE WERE GRACIOUSLY GIVEN SOME EXTRA DAYS TO PREPARE FOR THE MOVE, AND ALL THREE SCHOOLS WORKED QUICKLY AND OUR STUDENTS BEGAN THE SECOND SEMESTER ON JANUARY THE 12TH.

REPAIRS TOOK LONGER THAN ORIGINALLY THOUGHT, AND TEN WEEKS AFTER THE INITIAL FLOOD, WE WERE ABLE TO REOPEN.

AND ON MARCH THE 29TH, WE VERY HAPPILY RETURNED HOME.

AND I'VE HEARD A LOT OF RECOGNITIONS TONIGHT AND THAT'S WHAT I'M HERE FOR, IS I BELIEVE IN GIVING PUBLIC PRAISE WHERE PUBLIC PRAISE IS DUE AND I JUST WANT TO TAKE AN OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE SEVERAL SHOUT OUTS.

FIRST, I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO GIDEON AND BROCKETT ELEMENTARIES.

AND I ACTUALLY SAW JOSH ROBERTS WHEN I WAS WALKING IN TONIGHT, AND HE WAS LIKE, OH, HEY, FORMER, YOU KNOW, BUILDING MATE.

AND SO I KNOW IT WAS NOT EASY FOR THEM HOSTING US FOR NINE SCHOOL WEEKS, NINE VERY LONG SCHOOL WEEKS WHEN YOU'RE DISPLACED.

THOSE CAMPUSES TOOK ON A FEW EXTRA HUNDRED STUDENTS.

WE'RE NOT TALKING ABOUT A FEW STUDENTS.

THEY TOOK ON A COUPLE OF HUNDRED STUDENTS.

AND I'M SURE THAT WAS NOT EASY ON THOSE CAMPUSES ALL THE TIME.

TRANSPORTATION WAS SHOUT OUT TO TRANSPORTATION.

THEY PROVIDED SHUTTLE BUSSES FOR OUR STUDENTS.

EACH DAY, STUDENTS COULD LOAD A BUS AT MORRIS AND THEN BE TRANSPORTED TO THEIR RESPECTIVE CAMPUSES.

AND AT THE END OF THE DAY, THEY COULD LOAD A BUS AT THOSE CAMPUSES AND BE RETURNED TO MORRIS.

AND SO I KNOW THERE WERE MANY PEOPLE WHO GAVE OF THEIR TIME TO DRIVE OUR STUDENTS.

ONE AFTERNOON WE WERE WAITING TO LOAD A BUS AND THE LADY AND I WISH I KNEW HER NAME, BUT SHE'S A MECHANIC THAT WORKS IN THE OFFICE.

SHE WAS OUR DRIVER AND SHE WAS DRIVING TWO ROUTES FROM GIDEON TO MORRIS BACK TO BROCKETT, BACK TO MORRIS.

AND SO I KNOW THAT WAS NOT EASY TO HAVE TO DO THAT.

IT WASN'T EASY ON US TO GET TWO BUSLOADS OF KIDS FROM ONE CAMPUS AND THEN HAVE TO WAIT FOR THOSE ROUTE DRIVERS TO GO GET TWO MORE.

BUT WE JUST MADE IT WORK.

WE MADE AN EXCELLENT DISMISSAL PLAN AND WE ADJUSTED AND WE FINALLY GOT ALL THE TIME FIGURED OUT AND GOT ALL THE PARENTS HAPPY KNOWING THAT THEIR KIDS WEREN'T ARRIVING AT THE

[01:30:03]

SAME TIMES.

STUDENT NUTRITION WAS HERE TONIGHT, AND I GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO THEM BECAUSE IN ADDITION TO THEIR NORMAL STUDENTS, THEY AGAIN TOOK ON A COUPLE HUNDRED STUDENTS AT EACH CAMPUS.

AND SO THAT WAS DIFFERENT MEAL PREP FOR THOSE STUDENT NUTRITION WORKERS.

AND I'M GRATEFUL FOR THE EXTRA EFFORT IT TOOK TO FEED ALL OF THEIR STUDENTS MANY TIMES AT BROCKETT ELEMENTARY, I TEACH PE AND WE HAD PE IN THE CAFETERIA . BEFORE LUNCHES STARTED, AND I'M SURE 40 OR 50 KIDS IN THE CAFETERIA WHILE YOU'RE TRYING TO PREPARE LUNCH WAS NOT THE EASIEST.

REAL QUICK, I WANT TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO OUR STAFF AT DP MORRIS.

WE HAVE A SUPERB LEADER IN MS. SUBLETTE. I CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE THE STRESS, THE PRESSURE THAT SHE FELT BY TRYING TO KEEP OUR SCHOOL THRIVING WHILE BEING SEPARATED, PHYSICALLY SEPARATED AT TWO DIFFERENT CAMPUSES.

MS. SUBLETTE IS A PROVEN AND A STRONG LEADER.

SHE TRULY HAS A COMPASSIONATE HEART FOR ALL STAFF, ALL STUDENTS.

SHE HAS A SPECIAL TOUCH WHEN DEALING WITH PEOPLE.

I'VE PERSONALLY SEEN THE TREMENDOUS POSITIVE IMPACT THAT SHE HAS ON STUDENTS OF ALL GENDER, ALL RACE, AND SHE MADE SURE THAT WE DIDN'T SINK IN THIS LITTLE FLOOD WE HAD.

OUR STAFF.

OH, I REALLY LOVE WHAT YOU'RE SAYING.

I REALLY, REALLY DO. BUT I WANT TO MAKE SURE IT WAS FAIR.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.

AND I JUST WANT TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO EVERYONE THAT WAS INVOLVED IN THIS PROCESS.

AND WE DO APPRECIATE IT BECAUSE YOU'RE ALL RIGHT.

WE'VE GOT AN AMAZING STAFF AND I RECOGNIZE ALL OF YOU HERE AND OUR NUTRITION PERSON STILL BACK THERE.

SO WE WILL MOVE TO ITEM 11.1, OUR 20 PLUS YEAR RECOGNITIONS.

MS. THOMAS, WOULD YOU LIKE TO READ THE REPORT? YES. SO EVERYBODY GET COMFORTABLE BECAUSE WE HAVE A LOT.

SO FIRST OF ALL, WE HAVE A LOT THAT HAVE GIVEN A LOT OF YEARS.

SO FIRST OF ALL, I'M GOING TO THANK EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU THAT I'M ABOUT TO READ YOUR NAME.

SO THANK YOU ALL FOR FOR YOUR SERVICE.

SO WE'LL MOVE TO ITEM 11.2.

OUR NEW HIRES FOR BOARD APPROVAL.

MAY I PLEASE RECEIVE A MOTION? SO MOVED. OKAY.

I THINK MS. NEWSOM JUST BEAT YOU.

SO WE HAD A MOTION MADE BY MS. THOMAS AND A SECOND MADE BY MS. NEWSOM. ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS? OKAY. HEARING NONE.

ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, MAY I PLEASE SEE A SHOW OF HANDS? OKAY, SO THE MOTION PASSES 7-0.

WE'LL NOW MOVE TO BUSINESS ITEMS REQUIRING BOARD ACTION ITEM 12.1 CONSIDERATION AND APPROVAL OF TEACHER CONTRACT ABANDONMENT.

MAY I PLEASE RECEIVE A MOTION? SO MOVED. WHO SAID THE SECOND I COULDN'T HEAR.

OH, MS. NEWSOM. OKAY, SO A MOTION MADE BY MS. THOMAS AND A SECOND MADE BY MS. NEWSOM. ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS?

[01:35:01]

OKAY. SEEING NONE.

MAY I PLEASE SEE A SHOW OF HANDS? OF ALL THOSE IN FAVOR? OKAY, SO THE MOTION PASSES 7-0.

MOVING ON TO ITEM 12.2.

MAY I PLEASE RECEIVE A MOTION? I WOULD MOVE THAT THE BOARD TERMINATE THE PROBATIONARY CONTRACT OF THE NAMED EMPLOYEE AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT YEAR IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE DISTRICT AND AUTHORIZE THE SUPERINTENDENT TO PROVIDE NOTICE TO THE EMPLOYEE.

SECOND. OKAY.

THERE'S A SECOND BY MS. FARRAR. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF THE MOTION.

MAY I PLEASE SEE A SHOW OF HANDS? OKAY. THE MOTION PASSES 7-0.

ITEM 12.3.

WE WILL TAKE NO ACTION ON THIS ONE AT THIS TIME.

SO IT TAKES US TO ITEM 12.4 CONSIDERATION OF APPROVAL OF RESOLUTION NUMBER 23-13, THE CALENDAR MODIFICATION.

MAY I PLEASE RECEIVE A MOTION OKAY, SO THE MOTION MADE BY MR. DAVIS AND A SECOND MADE BY MR. TIPPING. IS THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS REGARDING THIS MOTION? MS. FARRAR? THANK YOU. SO I DO HAVE A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS.

IF YOU COULD JUST GIVE US A LITTLE UPDATE ON WHAT THE MODIFICATIONS TO THE CALENDAR LOOK LIKE.

CERTAINLY. THANK YOU FOR ASKING.

SO JUST WANT TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE BIT OF BACKGROUND.

SO IT IS NOT OFTEN THAT A CALENDAR IS APPROVED IN THE FALL AND THEN WE COME TO YOU WITH A RESOLUTION IN THE SPRING. SO IT IS UNUSUAL.

SO WITH A LITTLE BIT OF NOISE IN THE SYSTEM AND THAT NOISE BEING TEACHERS NEED MORE TIME. I WAS CHARGED BY DR.

CANTU AND A COMMITTEE TO WHAT CAN WE DO WITHIN NEXT YEAR'S CALENDAR TO PROVIDE SOME MORE TIME.

BUT GIVEN THE FACT THAT A CALENDAR HAD ALREADY BEEN ADOPTED BY YOU, THE BOARD IN THE FALL AND SO WE DIDN'T WANT TO THROW OR COMPLETELY OVERHAUL THE CALENDAR.

AND SO WHAT THE WHAT WE CAME UP WITH AND THEN TOOK IT BACK TO THE CALENDAR COMMITTEE THAT DID THE WORK IN THE IN THE FALL WAS THAT WE WILL ADD THREE TEACHER WORKDAYS AND THOSE THREE TEACHER WORKDAYS WILL ALSO BE STUDENT HOLIDAYS.

THE NUMBER ONE WOULD BE SEPTEMBER 22ND WILL BE A STUDENT HOLIDAY, A TEACHER WORK DAY.

IT'S ALSO AT THE END OF A GRADING PERIOD.

THE SECOND ONE IS ON SEPTEMBER.

I MEAN, I'M SORRY, FEBRUARY THE 16TH WILL ADD A IT WOULD BE ADDING A STUDENT HOLIDAY TEACHER WORK DAY ON THAT DAY.

WHAT THAT DOES IS ALSO ADDS THE DAY ON THE END OF A GRADING PERIOD.

PLUS IT'S ALSO ADDING IT TO AN ALREADY EXISTING THREE DAY, THREE DAY WEEKEND.

AND THEN THE THEN THE THIRD DAY WOULD BE APRIL THE 1ST, AND IT WOULD BE A STUDENT HOLIDAY TEACHER WORKDAY AND IT WOULD BE ADDING AND IN CONJUNCTION WITH AN ALREADY EXISTING THREE DAY WEEKEND AS WELL.

DID YOU HAVE ANY MORE? YEAH. OKAY.

SO I DID WANT TO JUST ACKNOWLEDGE WE DID RECEIVE NUMEROUS EMAILS FROM STAFF AND TEACHERS JUST ASKING US TO CONSIDER LOOKING AT SOME SORT OF FOUR DAY OR HYBRID SCHEDULE.

WAS THAT CONSIDERED? AND THEN HOW DID YOU GUYS COME UP WITH THIS AS AN ALTERNATIVE? AND THEN JUST I HAVE ONE OTHER ADDITIONAL QUESTION.

IT LOOKS LIKE THE MAJORITY OF OUR TEACHER WORKDAYS THAT WERE EITHER ALREADY IMPLEMENTED OR THAT WE ARE ADDING TO THE CALENDAR.

IF THIS IS APPROVED, FALL ON THE END OF A SIX WEEKS.

I THINK THERE WERE TWO THAT WERE ON DECEMBER 12TH THAT THAT DID NOT HAVE ONE.

AND THEN ALSO THERE'S A TEACHER WORKDAY THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT ADDING ON APRIL 1ST.

[01:40:03]

I'M CURIOUS IF WE CONSIDERED ADDING THAT ON APRIL 5TH INSTEAD OR THAT FOLLOWING MONDAY, BECAUSE THAT FALLS ON THE END OF THAT SIX WEEKS. LET ME, I'LL TAKE THE PART ABOUT THE FOUR DAY WEEK TO BEGIN WITH, THE FOUR DAY WEEK WE HAVE BEEN STUDYING AND ACTUALLY DR.

SCOTT HAS A TEAM AND THEY JUST MET AGAIN LAST WEEK.

SO WE ARE STILL STUDYING THE FOUR DAY WEEK.

BUT WE KNOW UP FRONT WHEN WE BEGAN STUDYING IT THAT TO MOVE A SHIP THE SIZE OF MANSFIELD ISD TO BE READY FOR NEXT YEAR, THAT WAS NOT FEASIBLE.

THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS THAT WOULD HAVE THAT HAVE TO HAPPEN TO TO TURN A SHIP IF THAT ENDED UP BEING THE DIRECTION THAT WE CHOOSE TO GO.

BUT DR.

SCOTT HAS A TEAM AND THEY'VE MET TWICE, I BELIEVE.

CORRECT. TWICE IN OUR CONTINUING TO MEET TO STUDY AND LOOK AT THE POSSIBILITY OF WHAT THAT WOULD MEAN, WHAT THE IMPACT WOULD BE, POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE.

RIGHT. WE HAVE TO LOOK AT BOTH SIDES OF THOSE TWO, THE FOUR DAY WEEK.

SO WHILE THAT WAS GOING ON, THAT WAS WHEN I CHARGED MR. WRIGHT WITH LOOKING AT WHAT ARE SOME OTHER WAYS THAT WE CAN PROVIDE SOME EXTRA TIME FOR OUR TEACHERS DURING THEIR WORKDAY.

RIGHT. AND TO LOOK AT THE CALENDAR AND WHAT CONSTRAINTS ARE THERE, HOW MANY MINUTES ARE WITHIN THAT THE WEEK, AND THEN TURN AROUND AND GIVE THAT BACK TO TEACHERS.

YOU KNOW, AND AT FIRST WE WERE TALKING, IS IT GOING TO BE STAFF DEVELOPMENT, IS IT GOING TO BE WORKDAY? AND WE SAID, YOU KNOW WHAT? WHAT IS? WHAT DO TEACHERS REALLY NEED? THEY NEED A WORKDAY; RIGHT? THEY NEED THAT WORKDAY. AND SO THAT'S THE CHALLENGE THAT HE MET.

WELL, I APPRECIATE YOU TAKING THAT INTO CONSIDERATION.

THANK YOU. SO IN ADDITION TO THAT, DR.

CANTU IS EXACTLY RIGHT.

BUT IN ADDITION TO THAT, I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE, THAT ONE OF THE CALENDARS THAT THE ORIGINAL CALENDAR COMMITTEE LOOKED AT BACK IN THE FALL WAS POTENTIALLY I DON'T KNOW WHY I SAID POTENTIALLY IT WAS A CALENDAR THAT HAD MOSTLY DAYS AT THE END OF THE GRADING PERIODS, NOT ALL SIX BUT IT WAS AND THE CALENDAR DIDN'T, THE CALENDAR COMMITTEE DIDN'T LIKE THE WAY IT LOOKED.

AND SO IT DIDN'T MAKE IT TO THE TOP TO GO TO THE SURVEY TO THE COMMUNITY.

AND SO THE OTHER PART OF THIS PARAMETERS IN THIS SPRING IS WE FELT LIKE BEING BEING TRUE TO THE PROCESS MEANT BECAUSE WE HAD A PROCESS, WE HAD A COMMITTEE, WE WENT OUT, WE ALSO WENT TO THE DIC COMMITTEE, WE WENT TO SUPER SAC.

WE WENT BACK TO THE COMMITTEE.

WE TOOK TWO SURVEYS TO THE COMMUNITY AND THEN WE BROUGHT A CALENDAR TO THE BOARD.

WE COULDN'T DO ALL OF THAT FEASIBLY AGAIN.

SO YOU HAVE A CALENDAR THAT THE COMMUNITY VOTED ON IN ESSENCE, AND YOU VOTED ON.

AND SO WHAT COULD WE DO THAT WERE MINIMAL CHANGES THAT WOULDN'T MAKE CHANGES THAT WE WERE ALSO WORRIED ABOUT WHOLESALE CHANGES THAT WOULD CHANGE PEOPLE THAT HAD ALREADY, FOR EXAMPLE, HAVE THEY ALREADY SETTLED ON VACATIONS? HAVE THEY ALREADY BOOKED VACATIONS FOR NEXT YEAR? AND SO WE DID, WHAT WE COULD DO, WE FELT WE COULD DO.

AND THE OTHER JUST AS A REMINDER, WE STILL HAVE TO GET OUR MINUTES IN.

AND SO THAT THAT IS A THING THAT YOU JUST, YOU CAN HAVE AS THE SUPERINTENDENT ONCE SAID, YOU CAN HAVE EVERYTHING YOU WANT.

YOU JUST CAN'T HAVE EVERYTHING YOU WANT.

SO YOU HAVE TO MAKE SOME DECISIONS WITHIN THERE.

WELL, THANK YOU. SO WHAT I HEAR YOU SAYING IS THERE'S A LOT OF THINGS THAT HAVE TO BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION.

IT'S NOT AS EASY AS JUST ADDING A FEW DAYS HERE AND THERE.

SO I APPRECIATE WE YOU TAKING THE TEACHERS NEED FOR EXTRA TIME TO WORK AND GET WORK DONE.

SO HOPEFULLY THIS ALLEVIATE SOME OF THAT BURDEN FOR THEM.

SO I APPRECIATE YOU GUYS TAKING A LOOK AT THAT.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

IS THERE ANY MORE QUESTIONS? OKAY. HEARING NONE.

[01:45:03]

DOES ANYONE WANT TO PULL AN ITEM AT THIS TIME? OKAY, SO ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF THE APPROVING THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED.

MAY I PLEASE SEE A SHOW OF HANDS? OKAY. THE CONSENT AGENDA PASSES 7-0.

WE NOW MOVE ON TO ITEM 14.

THE SUPERINTENDENTS REPORT.

THIS IS FOR DISCUSSION ONLY.

IS THERE ANYTHING LISTED IN THE REPORT THAT THAT SOMEONE WOULD LIKE TO DISCUSS WITH DR.

CANTU AT THIS TIME? I JUST HAVE A QUICK QUESTION.

OKAY. MS. THOMAS FOR OUR, YOU KNOW, OUR PERCENTAGE OF ATTENDANCE, IT'S BEEN KIND OF LOW.

WHAT ARE OUR PLANS TO TRY TO BUMP THAT BACK UP? IT'S, I KNOW THAT'S KIND OF A TRICK QUESTION, BUT, YOU KNOW, WE USED TO KIND OF HANG IN THE 96 PERCENTILE, AND I KNOW THAT IT DOES AFFECT FUNDING AND WE'RE DOWN TO 94.

SO DO WE NEED TO LIKE ENCOURAGE OUR PARENTS TO MAKE SURE OUR KIDS ARE HEADED TO SCHOOL AND THE IMPORTANCE OF THEM BEING IN IN SCHOOL, NOT JUST FOR A MONEY THING, BUT I MEAN, TO CLOSE THOSE GAPS AND DO THE CATCH UP THAT IT'S IMPORTANT FOR THEM TO BE THERE.

OH, I MEAN, ABSOLUTELY.

AND I THINK WE CAN CONTINUE TO SHARE THE IMPORTANCE OF SCHOOL AND THE IMPORTANCE OF STUDENTS COMING TO SCHOOL.

CONTINUE OUR EFFORTS TO MAKE IT A PLACE THAT KIDS WANT TO BE AS WELL.

BUT I CAN TELL YOU, YOU KNOW, THIS DOESN'T MAKE IT ANY BETTER.

BUT ACROSS THE STATE, AND REALLY ACROSS THE NATION, ATTENDANCE HAS GONE DOWN IN SCHOOLS SINCE COVID.

YOU KNOW, THE IMPORTANCE OF SCHOOL, YOU KNOW, FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL FAMILY, BUT BEING THERE EVERY DAY HAS SEEMED TO HAVE CHANGED A LITTLE BIT FOR SOME PEOPLE.

SO IT'S JUST ABOUT CONTINUING THAT.

YOU KNOW, PART OF IT THAT WAS ONE OF THE REASONS ALSO TO FOR WHY WE BROUGHT YOU GOOD SIDE HEALTH.

RIGHT. WAS TO BE ABLE TO GET KIDS WELL AND BACK IN SCHOOL AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.

WE'RE TRYING TO COME UP WITH EVERYTHING, ANYTHING THAT WE CAN DO TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR KIDS ARE HEALTHY AND THAT THEY'RE IN SCHOOL.

BUT PART OF THAT, TOO, IS THE IMPORTANCE OF SCHOOL.

RIGHT? AND SO THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE CAN CONTINUE TO HAVE CONVERSATION ABOUT.

BUT I APPRECIATE YOU BRINGING THAT UP.

THANK YOU. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE? OKAY. SEEING NOTHING ELSE.

WE WILL MOVE TO ITEM 15 AND WE WILL ADJOURN AT 8:47.
