IN FIRST GRADE, WE STARTED OUT AT 71 AND ARE AT 69 PERCENT RIGHT NOW. THIS TIME LAST YEAR, WE WERE AT 67 PERCENT FOR BOTH THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR AND THE MIDDLE OF YEAR IN FIRST GRADE. SO WHEN IT COMES MIDDLE OF THE YEAR, IF THEY SCORE A 419 AGAIN, THEY'RE ACTUALLY BELOW AVERAGE. SO THESE ASSESSMENTS ARE ON A SLIDING SCALE. SO THERE'S FIVE TO EIGHT ASSESSMENTS THAT THOSE KIDDOS ARE TAKING. THEY'RE ONE-MINUTE TESTS. THEY'RE ON ACCURACY AND FLUENCY. THEY ARE VERY RIGOROUS ON THE STUDENT END. SO WE'RE PUSHING THE KIDS THROUGH THOSE ASSESSMENTS AND LOOKING AT THEIR SCORE. AND SO WHILE OUR STUDENTS MAY GROW, THEY MAY NOT HIT THE TARGETED GROWTH IN THAT SPECIFIC SLIDING SCALE PIECE. SO FROM 69 TO 70, MIDDLE, INTERMEDIATE GRADES, 64 AND 67 PERCENT, AND THEN THE 58 AND 56. THEN WHEN WE LOOK AT READING, IT'S A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT. AND SO, THAT'S REALLY WHEN WE CATCH A LOT OF THE PIECES IF THEY'RE NOT APPROPRIATELY SUBMITTED. THE OTHER PIECE IS THAT THEY SUBMIT THEIR SUPPORTING GOAL OR THEIR ONE THING AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR. SO, WHAT YOU SEE AS FAR AS THEIR CAMPUS IMPROVEMENT PLANS ARE THEIR ONE THING. THAT'S THEIR MAIN GOAL. WHAT A LOT OF OUR CAMPUSES DO IS IN ORDER TO KEEP THE WORK GOING AND TO BE, TO HAVE CONTINUITY IS IF IT'S A ONE THING FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS AND THEY FEEL LIKE THEY'VE HAD GOOD RESPONSES AND THEIR STUDENTS ARE DOING WELL, THEY MAKE THAT A SUPPORTING GOAL. SO, THEY TYPICALLY GIVE THAT TO AN ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AND THAT ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL THEN OWNS THAT SUPPORTING GOAL. WHAT HAS HAPPENED WITH OUR ELEMENTARY CAMPUSES IS NOW OUR ELEMENTARY CAMPUSES, OUR ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS ARE OWNING GUIDING STATEMENT 1. SO, IT'S NOT ALWAYS NECESSARILY A SUPPORTING STATEMENT BECAUSE THAT'S SOMETHING THAT THEY ARE OWNING DISTRICT WIDE. AND SO, YOU MAY NOT SEE A SUPPORTING GOAL SPECIFICALLY FOR ELEMENTARY CAMPUSES BECAUSE IT'S SOMETHING THAT ALL OF THEM ARE DOING AS AN EXPECTATION FROM US. AND SO, THAT'S KIND OF THE DIFFERENCE WITH THE SUPPORTING GOAL VERSUS THE REGULAR GOAL AND THEN THEY UPDATE THOSE EVERY YEAR. NOW, IT COULD BE THAT THEY DETERMINE WE STILL HAVE TIME TO DO SOME MORE WORK ON THIS PARTICULAR ONE THING SO THEY CAN CARRY THAT OVER FROM ONE YEAR TO THE NEXT. MR.
