AS THEY ARE MAKING THEIR WAY DOWN, I WANT TO SAY THAT JANUARY IS SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNITION MONTH, AND MANSFIELD ISD IS CELEBRATING ITS TRUSTEES FOR THEIR DEDICATION AND COMMITMENT TO OUR DISTRICT AND TO OUR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES.
ALL THROUGHOUT THE ROOM THIS EVENING, YOU GUYS CAN SEE POSTERS AND NOTES CREATED AT EACH OF OUR CAMPUSES IN THIS YEAR'S THEME, SCHOOL BOARD ALL STARS, SHOWING THEIR APPRECIATION FOR OUR BOARD'S COMMITMENT AND LEADERSHIP IN MAKING MANSFIELD ISD A WINNING TEAM FOR OUR STUDENTS, OUR STAFF, AND OUR COMMUNITY.
THE WORK OF OUR SEVEN ELECTED BOARD MEMBERS INCLUDES OVERSIGHT OF THE MANAGEMENT OF OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT, ENSURING FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY, AND ESTABLISHING POLICIES THAT SUPPORT THE DISTRICT'S MISSION, VISION, AND STRATEGIC PLAN, MAKING SURE THAT ALL OF OUR STUDENTS GRADUATE COLLEGE, CAREER, AND LIFE READY.
THIS WORK THAT THEY DO IS ALL VOLUNTEER.

THESE YOUNG STUDENTS HAVE BEEN CHOSEN FROM THEIR CAMPUS BASED ON THE VIRTUES OF OUTSTANDING CHARACTER, CITIZENSHIP, FAIRNESS, HONESTY, KINDNESS, RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, AND TRUSTWORTHINESS.

THE SENIORS THAT TAKE THE TSIA, THOSE ARE THE STUDENTS THAT MAYBE WEREN'T SUCCESSFUL THE FIRST TIME THAT HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO RETAKE AT THEIR SENIOR YEAR SO THAT THEY CAN BE PLACED APPROPRIATELY SHOULD THEY MOVE ON TO JUNIOR COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY.

THE LAST PIECE ON THIS THAT I WANT TO FOCUS ON IS, WE WANT TO CREATE OWNERSHIP WITH OUR STUDENTS.
FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS, THIS HAS REALLY BEEN AN ADULT-CENTRIC ACTIVITY.
THE STUDENTS HAVE MEETINGS WITH THEIR COUNSELORS, THEY TALK TO THEIR TEACHERS, AND THEY ARE LEARNING ABOUT CCMR FROM THE ADULTS IN THE ROOM.
WHAT WE'RE DOING IS WE'RE CREATING IN OUR CAREER PATHWAYS CLASS, WHICH IS IN THE EIGHTH GRADE.
WE'RE CREATING A MODULE SO STUDENTS CAN LEARN ABOUT CCMR AND THEY CAN START TO THINK TO THEMSELVES, AM I GOING TO BE A DUAL CREDIT STUDENT? AM I GOING TO BE AN AP STUDENT? I'M GOING TO BE A CTE STUDENT? HOW AM I GOING TO EARN MY POINT? WE WANT THEM TO HAVE THAT OWNERSHIP OF THAT POINT, SO THAT THEY ARE SPEAKING THE SAME LANGUAGE WE'RE SPEAKING.
WE THOUGHT THAT WILL GO A LONG WAYS TO HELPING THEM IN PREPARING FOR THEIR POST-SECONDARY READINESS.
I JUST WANT TO GIVE YOU A BRIEF REMINDER OF THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN P-TECH AND EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL.
REMEMBER THE PURPOSE OF EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL IS TO GET THAT ASSOCIATES IN GENERAL STUDIES THAT CAN APPLY TO ANY COLLEGE MAJOR.
BUT WITH OUR P-TECH, THAT'S INDUSTRY-SPECIFIC.
THEY'RE NOT NECESSARILY GOING FOR AN ASSOCIATE DEGREE, ALTHOUGH THEY COULD GET ONE.
THEY'RE GETTING A LEVEL ONE CERTIFICATE IN EITHER CYBERSECURITY OR COMPUTER PROGRAMMING.
THEN WE HAVE AN INDUSTRY PARTNER TO GIVE THEM WORK-BASED LEARNING EXPERIENCE, AND THAT INDUSTRY PARTNER IS MOUSER ELECTRONICS, OF COURSE.
THIS IS AN ACTUAL PICTURE FROM NOVEMBER OF THIS YEAR, OUR STUDENTS HAD THEIR FIRST FIELD TRIP OVER TO MOUSER.
THEY GOT TO HEAR FROM THEIR IT PROFESSIONALS ABOUT CAREERS IN IT, WHICH WAS GREAT.
THEY ASKED A LOT OF QUESTIONS THAT I DIDN'T KNEW THE ANSWER TO.
BUT THE IT PEOPLE WERE SO IMPRESSED WITH OUR STUDENTS, AND THERE IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THESE STUDENTS TO HAVE PAID INTERNSHIPS IN BETWEEN THEIR JUNIOR AND SENIOR YEAR, AND ACTUALLY AFTER THEIR SENIOR YEAR.
THEY DO LOOK TO HIRE STUDENTS AFTER GRADUATION.
JUST A REMINDER, JUST WANTED YOU TO SEE WHAT THAT PROGRESSION IS GOING TO LOOK LIKE FOR THEM.
THEY HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO START THEIR DUAL CREDIT, THEIR SOPHOMORE YEAR WITH TAKING A SPEECH CLASS.
BUT THE VAST MAJORITY OF THEIR COLLEGE HOURS ARE GOING TO BE THEIR JUNIOR OR SENIOR YEAR, AND THAT WILL DEPEND ON IF THEY DECIDED TO GO THE CYBERSECURITY TRACK OR THE COMPUTER PROGRAMMING TRACK.
BUT WE HAVE SPECIAL ACTIVITIES BUILT IN FOR EVERY SINGLE YEAR THAT THEY'RE IN THE P-TECH PROGRAM.
I'M HAPPY TO REPORT AS OF THIS MORNING, WE HAVE 43 APPLICANTS FOR NEXT YEAR'S FRESHMAN CLASS, AND SO THE POWER OF CHOICE CLOSES ON FRIDAY, SO WE HOPE TO GET EVEN MORE.

ALL WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY ALLOWING THE ONLY ELIGIBLE CANDIDATE IN THE SAME RACES NAME AND FAMILY TO BE DISPARAGED.
I SHUTTER TO THINK WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF IT HAD NOT BEEN FOR THE TEXT MESSAGE READ AROUND THE WORLD.

TEA HAS A DIVISION OF SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT, AND YOU CAN BE LABELED IN SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT THROUGH A PROCESS, AND WHAT THEY BASICALLY DO IS RANK ALL OF THESE SCHOOLS, THE TITLE 1 SCHOOLS, AND IF YOU FALL WITHIN THE BOTTOM 5%, THEN YOU WOULD BE LABELED A SCHOOL THAT NEEDS COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT.
THERE ARE OTHER TYPES OF SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT WITH ADDITIONAL AND TARGETED, BUT WE DO HAVE TWO SCHOOLS THAT ARE PARTICIPATING IN COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT.
OUR FIRST SCHOOL GLENN HARMON WAS IDENTIFIED WITH THE STAR DATA FROM THE SPRING OF 2022 AND RECLASSIFIED IN THE SPRING OF 2024.
THEN KENNETH DAVIS WAS IDENTIFIED FOR COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT WITH THE START DATA FROM 2023.
IT IS A TWO YEAR COMMITMENT, NO MATTER WHAT, YOU CANNOT COME OUT OF SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT UNTIL YOU'VE BEEN IN THAT FOR TWO YEARS.
LAST YEAR, HAD KENNETH DAVIS BEEN GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY.
THEY HAD A PROJECTION TO BE A B AND WERE WELL ON THEIR WAY OUT, HOWEVER, THEY ARE STILL IN IT BECAUSE THAT IS HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS.
THEY HAVE TO DO A TARGETED IMPROVEMENT PLAN BY THE STATE.
HONESTLY, THE TEMPLATE THAT THE STATE PROVIDES ISN'T VERY DETAILED IN WHAT ACTIONS THAT THEY'RE DOING.
MANSFIELD ISD REQUIRES A LITTLE BIT MORE OF OUR CAMPUSES, AND WE DO THAT THROUGH OUR CURRENT SYSTEM WITH OUR CADENCE OF ACCOUNTABILITY.
OUR SCHOOLS HAVE A ONE THING AND BOTH OF THOSE SCHOOLS IS SPECIFICALLY TARGETING TIER 1 INSTRUCTION THROUGH EFFECTIVE COACHING AND FEEDBACK AND OBSERVATION CYCLES.
THAT IS WHERE WE ARE, AND THAT IS HOW WE ARE IDENTIFIED AND ARE DEFINITELY WORKING TO GET OUT AND HOPE TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT ONE THIS SPRING AND THEN ONE NEXT SPRING BECAUSE IT'S A TWO YEAR COMMITMENT.

CAN YOU SHARE WITH US STAKEHOLDERS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO MAKING THOSE PLANS?

PART OF THE REQUIREMENT WHICH WE DO ANYWAY AS A FORMER PRINCIPAL IN MANSFIELD ISD, WHEN WE HAVE OUR SITE BASED COMMITTEE DECISION MAKING COMMITTEE GROUPS MEET, WE ALWAYS GO OVER THOSE PLANS, BUT WE RECEIVE COMMUNITY INPUT ON THOSE PLANS, NOT ONLY JUST FROM OUR STAFF AND STAKEHOLDERS, BUT OUR COMMUNITY, AND THAT FEEDBACK IS THEN INCORPORATED INTO THE PLAN WHEN APPROPRIATE, AND WE HAVE MINUTES FROM THOSE MEETINGS AND WE UPLOAD THOSE ALONG WITH ALL THE APPROPRIATE DOCUMENTS.
THAT'S DEFINITELY IMPORTANT PART OF THE PROCESS.
