FROM THIS IMPACTFUL STATEMENT, WE DECIDED TO BE INTENTIONAL, OUR DEPARTMENT ABOUT HAVING FATHERS TO BE ON CAMPUSES TO BE PRESENT, FATHER FIGURES, AND MENTORS DURING NATIONAL PARENT INVOLVEMENT WEEK IN NOVEMBER. THIS IS EXCITING, BUT THIS TEST IS TOUGH, AND YOU CAN'T MAINTAIN THE SCORE THAT YOU'RE AT RIGHT NOW TO KEEP PROGRESSING AND MOVING ALONG. EXCUSE ME. THE EXPECTATION OF HOW WELL STUDENTS DO, IT GROWS TREMENDOUSLY BETWEEN THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR AND THE MIDDLE OF YEAR AND THEN TO THE END OF THE YEAR. FOR INSTANCE, IF A STUDENT STARTS OUT MAYBE WITH A SCORE OF 400, IN ORDER TO BE STILL ON GRADE LEVEL, THEY MAY HAVE TO BE A 450. EVEN THOUGH A STUDENT MAY BE GROWING AND LEARNING AND MAYBE MOVING ALONG, REMEMBER THIS IS A 1 MINUTE TEST, IT'S ABOUT AUTOMATICITY. HOW QUICKLY CAN THEY RECALL THOSE SOUNDS AND LETTERS? SOMETIMES IT'S A LITTLE MORE DIFFICULT. IF YOU CAN IMAGINE IF WE WERE TO OPEN UP THAT TIME LIMIT AND LET KIDDOS DO WHAT THEY COULD DO, I THINK OUR SCORES WOULD BE A LOT BETTER, BUT WE KNOW THAT OUR KIDDOS HAVE TO DO IT WITH AUTOMATICITY, FLUENCY, SO WE REALLY CHALLENGE THEM TO DO THAT. NOW WHAT? WE'VE DONE THE ASSESSMENT. WE KNOW WHERE OUR STUDENTS ARE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR. OUR EARLY LITERACY TEAM, YOU GUYS CAN'T BRAG ON THEM ENOUGH. THEY'RE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. THEY DIG INTO THIS DATA LIKE I'VE NEVER SEEN ANYONE DIG INTO DATA? THERE'S A TEAM OF THEM, [00:40:01] THEY BREAK IT DOWN BY EVERY SINGLE CAMPUS, EVERY SINGLE TEACHER, AND EVERY SINGLE STUDENT. THEY HAVE SPREADSHEETS OF EVERY STUDENT IN THE DISTRICT, WHERE THEY ARE IN THEIR READING, AND THEY GO TO EVERY CAMPUS AND THEY MEET WITH THE TEACHERS. THEY TALK THROUGH THAT DATA WITH THEM. WHAT DOES IT MEAN? WHAT DOES IT MEAN IF THEY'RE ON THIS END? IF THEY'RE ON THIS END, WHAT ARE THEY STRONG AT? WHAT ARE THEY WEAK AT? THEN WHAT DO WE DO WITH THAT? HOW DO WE PROVIDE COACHING? HOW DO WE PROVIDE PLANNING SUPPORT? HOW DO WE USE THE RESOURCES THAT WE HAVE TO KEEP MOVING THOSE KIDDLES ALONG? THEY DO A LOT, THEY DO PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WITH OUR TEACHERS, THEY DO THE COACHING AND THE PLANNING SUPPORT. WE'VE ACTUALLY ADDED ANOTHER LAYER THIS YEAR THAT'S DIFFERENT FOR US. YOU KNOW THE COA PROCESS, ALL OF OUR PRINCIPALS HAVE A ONE THING. THIS YEAR IN ELEMENTARY, ALL OF OUR ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS HAVE A ONE THING AS WELL, AND EVERY ASSISTANCE PRINCIPALS, ONE IS GUIDING STATEMENT NUMBER 1. EVERY AP IS TAKING OWNERSHIP OF THAT ON THEIR CAMPUS, OF COURSE, ALONGSIDE WITH THEIR PRINCIPAL, BUT ENSURING THAT OUR STUDENTS ARE MOVING, LEARNING, AND GROWING. WE'RE ACTUALLY DOING WALKS AT EVERY CAMPUS, EVERY SECOND GRADE CLASSROOM. THOSE ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS ARE COMING IN AND GIVING THEIR COA TO US. DOCTOR PATTON AND MISS COAP. READING ON GRADE LEVEL AND REMAINING, AND THEN IN MATH, EVEN THOUGH THE GUIDING STATEMENT IS THE MASTERY OF ALGEBRA 2, WE KNOW OUR STUDENTS CAN'T MASTER ALGEBRA 2 IF THEY DON'T HAVE THE CONCRETE FOUNDATION OF MATHEMATICAL SKILLS IN THEIR ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL YEARS. WE ARE LOOKING AT OUR KIDDOS THROUGH THIS ASSESSMENT. I WANT TO POINT OUT SOME THINGS ABOUT THIS ASSESSMENT THAT IS VERY DIFFERENT THAN WHAT WE'RE USED TO SEEING. OUR M-PLUS ASSESSMENT IS AN ASSESSMENT FOR MASTERY. THE STAR TEST THAT WE TAKE AT THE END OF THE YEAR IS AN ASSESSMENT OF MASTERY AND ACHIEVEMENT. MANY OF THE TESTS THAT KIDDOS TAKE ARE DESIGNED TO SHOW ACHIEVEMENT. THIS TEST IS NOT DESIGNED TO SHOW MASTERY. MATTER OF FACT, YOU CAN'T STOP TAKING THE TEST UNTIL YOU'VE MISSED HALF THE QUESTIONS. THAT'S ALWAYS STARTLING TO OUR KIDDOS, ESPECIALLY OUR OVERACHIEVERS THAT WANT THE HUNDREDS SO BADLY. THE QUESTIONS KEEP GETTING HARDER AND THEY GET THEM WRONG AND IT'S JUST AN INTERNAL FIGHT. I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE PANICKED AS A KIDDO TAKEN THAT TEST BECAUSE YOUR PERFECTIONISM, YOU WANT TO GET THEM ALL RIGHT. BUT IT IS DESIGNED TO SHOW GROWTH OF OUR STUDENTS. THEY HAVE TO GET MORE HARDER QUESTIONS CORRECT. AS THE TEST PUTS THEM THROUGH THERE, THEY GET A QUESTION RIGHT, IT BUMPS UP A LEVEL. THEY GO A QUESTION WRONG, IT'LL DROP THEM DOWN TO A LITTLE EASIER QUESTION TILL IT FINDS THAT BALANCE OF WHERE THEY'RE AT. THEY TAKE THIS TEST, THIS ADAPTIVE TEST, THEY GET A SCORE. IT'S CALLED A RIT SCORE. I'M NOT GOING TO EXPLAIN TO YOU ALL THE METRICS IN THE MATH BEHIND HOW YOU GET A RIT SCORE, BUT THAT SCORE LETS US KNOW A STARTING POINT, WHERE THEY ARE RIGHT NOW AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR. THEN ALSO THIS ASSESSMENT, AS I MENTIONED, IS DESIGNED FOR INDIVIDUAL STUDENT GROWTH. EVERY KIDDO HAS A STUDENT PROFILE. EVERY TEACHER IS ABLE TO AND PARENT TO LOOK AT THEIR STUDENTS PROFILE AND LOOK AT THEIR STRENGTHS, LOOK AT THEIR WEAKNESSES. IT WILL TELL TEACHERS EXACTLY WHAT SKILLS THEY'RE READY TO LEARN AND EXACTLY WHICH SKILLS THEY NEED HELP IN AND MAKING BETTER AND STRONGER IN THEIR READING AND IN THEIR MATH, AND IN THEIR SCIENCE AS WELL. IT'S REALLY EXCITING TEST. IT'S TOUGH AND IT'S DIFFICULT. WE'VE SPENT A LOT OF TIME WORKING WITH TEACHERS. WE'VE HAD NWEA CONSULTANTS COME IN, REALLY SIT DOWN WITH PRINCIPALS AND EXPLAIN THAT DATA SO THAT WE'RE SURE THAT WE'RE USING IT IN THE BEST MANNER AND THAT WE'RE FINDING WAYS FOR OUR KIDDOS TO GROW. WITH ALL OF THAT SAID, WE ARE START TEST. THERE IS SOME ALIGNMENT. THERE IS SOME WAYS THAT THIS MAP ASSESSMENT CAN PREDICT PERFORMANCE ON THE START TEST. SO ANYWAY, IT HAS NOW IT'S USED A YEARS WORTH OF DATA FROM LAST YEAR TO REALIGN THOSE METRICS. THERE'S STILL SOME ANOMALIES WE'RE FINDING IN MATH AND SCIENCE AS FAR AS THEIR PREDICTIONS AND WHAT STUDENTS ARE ACTUALLY SCORING THAT WE'RE WORKING THROUGH AND KEEPING OUR EYES ON. BUT I WILL BE REPORTING OUT ON THAT DATA AND HOW THE PREDICTIONS SHOW THAT WE'RE GOING TO DO. BUT BEFORE I DO THAT, I WANTED TO GET A LITTLE BIT NERDY AND EXCITED ABOUT THIS PRESENTATION. I WANTED TO LOOK AT HOW ARE OUR KIDDOS COMPARING TO OTHER STUDENTS ACROSS THE NATION. THIS IS NOT A TEXAS ASSESSMENT. THIS IS A NATION ASSESSMENT. PEOPLE ALL OVER ARE TAKING THIS. HOW ARE OUR STUDENTS DOING COMPARED TO ALL OF THOSE TAKING THIS ASSESSMENT ACROSS THE NATION. [00:45:03] I WENT BACK TO MY DAYS OF BELL CURVES, GOT A LITTLE EXCITED. WE STARTED LOOKING AT IF YOU TAKE THERE WERE ABOUT 11 MILLION NWA MAP ASSESSMENTS GIVEN ACROSS THE NATION THIS LAST YEAR. 11 MILLION. IF YOU DIVIDE THAT UP OVER ALL THE TESTS, IT'S ABOUT 1 MILLION KIDS PER GRADE LEVEL IF YOU DIVIDED THAT OUT. BUT IF WE TOOK EVERY KID IN FOURTH GRADE THAT TOOK THIS ASSESSMENT, NWA MAP, AND WE LINED THEM UP IN ORDER FROM THEIR LOWEST SCORE TO THEIR HIGHEST SCORE, THE VERY MIDDLE ONE WOULD BE THE MEDIAN. THAT WOULD BE THE 50TH PERCENTILE. EVERY KIDDO SCORING ABOVE THAT WOULD BE IN THE TOP 50TH PERCENTILE, AND IT'S EQUALLY DISTRIBUTED, EVERYONE BELOW THAT WOULD BE IN THE BOTTOM 50TH PERCENTILE. THAT'S THE BELL CURVE. YOU CAN SEE A DARK LINE IN THE YELLOW, THAT'S TO INDICATE THE 50TH PERCENTILE. HALF OF YOUR KIDDOS SHOULD FALL BELOW THAT. HALF OF YOUR KIDDOS SHOULD FALL ABOVE THAT LINE. MANSFIELD ID IS A VERY LARGE SCHOOL DISTRICT. STATISTICALLY, WE SHOULD FALL IN LINE WITH THE NATIONAL NORMS IN THE AVERAGES. WHEN WE LOOK, I STARTED LOOKING AT THIS DATA, WE WERE REALIZING THAT WOW, WE'RE NOT REALLY FALLING IN LINE WITH THAT DATA AS MUCH AS WE THOUGHT WE MIGHT BECAUSE WE ARE SUCH A LARGE DISTRICT, WE WERE ACTUALLY PERFORMING A LITTLE BIT BETTER. I WANTED TO SHARE THAT WITH YOU. YOU CAN SEE ON THIS SLIDE, THIS IS FOURTH GRADE MATH AND I'M GOING TO REPORT FOURTH, SIX AND EIGHTH, JUST LIKE WE DO ON OUR DISTRICT SCORECARD FOR MATH AND READING, AND THEN I ALSO WANT TO TALK ABOUT SOME ANOMALIES IN SCIENCE. FOURTH GRADE MATH. IF YOU WERE TO LINE ALL OF OUR KIDS UP IN MISD, THEIR SCORES FROM LEAST TO GREATEST IN FOURTH GRADE THAT TOOK THIS ASSESSMENT, OUR MIDDLE KID WOULD ACTUALLY BE PERFORMING AT THE 65TH PERCENT TILE FOR THE NATION IN THIS ASSESSMENT. IT JUST SHOWS THAT OUR KIDS ACROSS THE NATION ARE ACTUALLY OUTPERFORMING AND DOING BETTER. THE AVERAGE KID IS DOING AS WELL OR BETTER THAN 65% OF THEIR PEERS. THEN YOU'VE GOT ALL THESE COLORS GOING ON IN THE GRAPH AND ALL THESE NUMBERS AT THE BOTTOM. WE ALSO CORRELATED IT TO THE PREDICTIONS FOR THE STAR TEST. IF A STUDENT IS PREDICTED IN FOURTH GRADE MATH IS IN THE FIRST PERCENTILE TO THE 34TH PERCENTILE, THE PREDICTION WOULD BE THAT THEY WOULD NOT MEET THE PASSING STANDARD ON THE STAR ASSESSMENT. IF THEY WERE IN THE 35TH TO 61ST PERCENTILE, THEY'RE EXPECTED TO BE AT THAT APPROACHES LEVEL, 62ND TO 83RD, AND THEN 84 TO 99 FOR MASTERS. IT'S A VISUAL OF WHERE A LOT OF OUR KIDS ARE FALLING. IF YOU HAVE THE 65% LINE AND ON THE RIGHT SIDE, IT'S A SMALLER AREA THAN ON THE LEFT, BUT IT'S A LOT MORE KIDS IN THAT AREA. IT'S INTERESTING DATA. AS I MOVED THERE AND I BEGAN LOOKING AT ALL OF THE OTHER GRADE LEVELS. MOST OF THEM WERE VERY SIMILAR. SIXTH GRADE MATH. IF YOU WERE TO ALIGN OUR STUDENTS UP, ALL OF THEIR SCORES FROM THE LEAST SCORE TO THE GREATEST SCORE, OUR MIDDLE KIDDO WOULD ACTUALLY BE AT THE 63RD PERCENT TILE COMPARED TO THE NATION. THE BELL CURVE. THEN WE GOT TO EIGHTH GRADE MATH AND I SAY, OH, NO, BUT THEN I REMEMBER EIGHTH GRADE MATH. REMEMBER, MANY OF OUR STUDENTS IN EIGHTH GRADE, USUALLY ANYWHERE 25-35% OF OUR KIDDOS ARE ENROLLED IN ALGEBRA 1. THEREFORE, THEY ARE NOT TAKING THIS MATH ASSESSMENT FOR EIGHTH GRADE MATH. WE ARE SKIMMING OFF A PERCENTAGE OF OUR STUDENTS AND ONLY REPORTING ON THOSE THAT ARE ACTUALLY ENROLLED IN EIGHTH-GRADE MATH. EVEN AT THAT, 42% WOULD BE ALL OF OUR KIDDOS LINED UP FROM LEAST TO GREATEST. THEY'RE DOING AS WELL AS OR BETTER THAN 42% OF THE KIDDOS TAKING THIS TEST, KNOWING THAT MANY OF OUR KIDS AREN'T PARTICIPATING IN THAT BECAUSE THEY'RE ENROLLED IN ALGEBRA 1. THEY'RE DOING OTHER ASSESSMENTS. FOURTH, SIX AND EIGHTH GRADE MATH. I LOOKED AT READING. READING WAS VERY SIMILAR IN FOURTH GRADE, 65% OF OUR STUDENTS WHO TOOK THIS TEST, WE PERFORMED AS WELL OR BETTER THAN 65% OF THOSE STUDENTS, LINING OUR KIDS UP FROM LEAST TO GREATEST. SIXTH GRADE ENGLISH LANGUAGE ART, 62ND PERCENTILE, OUR MIDDLE KIDDO, AND IN EIGHTH GRADE ELA ARE READING ALMOST AT 60 AT 57 PERCENTILE. THEN I TOOK A LOOK AT SCIENCE. WE'VE GOT A LOT GOING ON AT SCIENCE. WHEN YOU FIRST LOOK AT THIS GRAPH LIKE, OH GOODNESS, THAT RED AREA IS HUGE, BUT WE'RE AT THE 72ND PERCENTILE. BUT WHEN I SHOW YOU SOME SCIENCE DT ON A LITTLE BIT, GOING TO BE LIKE, HOW THE HECK COULD WE BE AT THE 72ND PERCENTILE WHEN OUR MEET SCORE ISN'T PREDICTED TO BE AS HIGH AS ALL THE OTHER SUBJECTS. SCIENCE IS REALLY INTERESTING. WE HAVE NEW SCIENCE STANDARDS, WE HAVE NEW SCIENCE RESOURCES, WE HAVE A COMPLETELY NEW WAY THAT WE'RE TEACHING SCIENCE TO OUR KIDDOS NOW. OUR KIDDOS ARE DOING A LOT OF THEMES, REOCCURRING THEMES THAT THEY'RE LEARNING ABOUT. THEY ARE DOING A LOT OF PROCESS STANDARDS AND REALLY APPLYING THAT SCIENCE THINKING, AND IT'S BEING TAUGHT AND TESTED IN WAYS THAT IT HASN'T BEEN TAUGHT BEFORE. WE'RE REALLY TRYING TO WATCH THAT FIFTH GRADE AND EIGHTH GRADE SCIENCE. WHILE OUR MIDDLE KIDDO IS THE 72ND PERCENTILE ON THIS NATIONALLY NORMED KIT TEST, THAT SOUNDS GREAT, BUT WE DO KNOW THAT WE HAVE A LOT OF WORK TO DO, AND I'M GOING TO SHOW YOU THAT HERE IN JUST A MINUTE. THEN IN EIGHTH GRADE SCIENCE, THE 66TH PERCENTILE. I THOUGHT THOSE WERE JUST INTERESTING WAYS TO SEE HOW [00:50:01] WE'RE DOING COMPARED TO OUR KIDDOS THAT ARE TAKING THE SAME TEST AT THE SAME TIME ACROSS THE NATION TO GIVE US SOME PERSPECTIVE. BUT THEN I ALSO WANT TO TALK TO YOU THE WAY WE'RE USED TO SEEING THE DATA. AS WE'VE TALKED A LITTLE BIT, WE HAVE THE NEW LINKING STUDY AND WHEN WE LOOK AT HOW OUR STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED OR PREDICTED TO PERFORM ON THE STAR ASSESSMENT, LET'S LOOK AT MATH. I REMEMBER REPORTING OUT, PROBABLY TWO OR THREE YEARS AGO, IS A LITTLE AFTER COVID, AND WE WERE TALKING ABOUT HOW LONG IT WAS GOING TO TAKE US TO COME BACK AND CLOSE THAT GAP AFTER COVID. THE RESEARCH HAD TOLD US THAT IT WAS GOING TO TAKE FIVE OR MORE YEARS FOR MATH SPECIFICALLY TO REALLY COME BACK FROM THAT. I THINK WE'RE GETTING CLOSER, AND IT HAS BEEN WHAT FOUR, FOUR YEARS 2020-2024. WE'RE CLOSING THAT GAP. THE READING GAP WAS ABLE TO BE CLOSED A LOT QUICKER. BUT EVEN ACROSS THE NATION AND ACROSS THE STATE AND OUR STAR TESTS, MATH STILL SEEMS TO BE THE PLACE THAT NEEDS THE MOST WORK THAT WE'RE STILL WORKING TO CLOSE THOSE GAPS. WHEN I LOOK AT THE MATH, YOU CAN SEE THIS DOTTED LINE ACROSS THE MIDDLE. THIS, THAT REPRESENTS THE 60%. WHEN WE TALK ABOUT THAT MAGIC FORMULA FOR START TESTING, IF 90% OF OUR STUDENTS CAN BE AT APPROACHES, 60% AT MEETS AND 30% AT MASTERS, THAT'S THAT FORMULA THAT YOUR CAMPUS CAN GET AN A IN STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT. THAT DOTTED LINE IS TO SHOW YOU HOW CLOSE WE ARE TO OR FROM THAT 60%. IN THE MIDDLE, FOURTH, FIFTH, SIX AND SEVENTH GRADE, WE'RE EITHER RIGHT ABOVE IT OR RIGHT BELOW IT, BUT HOVERING AROUND THAT 60TH PERCENT. WE TALKED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE EIGHTH GRADE THAT THEN NOT MANY OF THOSE KIDDOS ARE ACTUALLY TAKING THE MAP ASSESSMENT BECAUSE THEY'RE ENROLLED IN ALGEBRA 1. TO NUMBERS ARE NATURALLY GOING TO BE A LITTLE BIT LOWER THAN THE OTHER GRADES. IN THIRD GRADE, I KEPT A CLOSE EYE ON THIS ONE LAST YEAR. LAST YEAR, WE STARTED OUT BEING PREDICTED TO BE AT 40% MEETS. WHEN WE TOOK THE STAR TEST AT THE END OF THE YEAR, WE WERE AT 50% MEETS. WE KNOW THAT OUR KIDDOS WERE GROWING AND THAT'S GREAT. OUR CHALLENGE IS, HOW MUCH CAN OUR STUDENTS GROW THIS YEAR SO THAT WE CAN SURPASS THAT 50% OF OUR STUDENTS BEING READY AT THE MEETS LEVEL. THIRD GRADERS ARE COMING IN. THEY'VE NEVER TAKEN A COMPUTERIZED TEST LIKE THAT BEFORE. REMEMBER THEY'VE BEEN TAKING CLASS WITH ONE ON ONE WITH A TEACHER, THEY'RE LEARNING HOW TO TYPE, THEY'RE EXPECTED TO TYPE SOME LITTLE SHORT CONSTRUCTED RESPONSES. THERE'S A LOT OF THINGS THAT THEY'RE WORKING THROUGH WHILE THEY'RE LEARNING. IT'S A LITTLE BIT OF A LEARNING CURVE, BUT I LOOK FORWARD TO WATCHING THOSE THIRD GRADERS GROW IN MATH AS WELL. >> WHEN WE MOVE OVER TO READING, WE TALKED ABOUT READING, IT WAS A LITTLE EASIER TO SINCE COVID, ALL OF OUR GRADE LEVELS RIGHT NOW ARE PREDICTED TO BE AT THAT 60% OR ABOVE THE MEETS FOR 3RD, 4TH, 5TH, 6TH, 7TH AND 8TH. THEN SCIENCE, DIDN'T IT LOOK SO PRETTY ON THAT BELL CURVE? WE JUST HAD THAT 72%, THAT 66, AND IT LOOKED SO HIGH AND GREAT. HERE'S SOME INTERESTING THINGS I WANT TO POINT OUT WITH THIS SCIENCE. IN ORDER TO TAKE THE END OF THE YEAR TEST, AND WE TAKE THAT STAR TEST, A STUDENT, CAN GET ANYWHERE FROM, I THINK IT IS THIRD GRADE READING. THEY CAN GET 48% OF THE QUESTIONS CORRECT AND STILL GET MEETS. BUT IN FIFTH GRADE SCIENCE, YOU HAVE TO GET 64% OF THE QUESTIONS CORRECT TO BE AT THE MEETS LEVEL. EVERY STAR TEST THAT WE TAKE DOESN'T HAVE THE SAME PASSING STANDARD, DOESN'T HAVE THE SAME PERCENTAGE TO GET CORRECT TO BE AT APPROACHES OR MEETS OR MASTER. THEY'RE ALL WEIGHTED DIFFERENTLY. SCIENCE HAS A VERY HIGH EXPECTATION FOR OUR STUDENTS TO BE AT THAT MEETS LEVEL, THEY HAVE TO GET ALMOST TWO THIRDS OF THE TEST CORRECT, OR SOME OTHER SUBJECTS DON'T EVEN HAVE TO GET HALF OF THE QUESTIONS CORRECT TO BE AT THAT MEETS LEVEL. I THINK THAT REALLY FACTORS IN WHEN WE'RE LOOKING AT THE EXPECTATION OF OUR STUDENTS TO BE AT THE MEETS LEVEL BECAUSE THEIR EXPECTATION TO PERFORM IS A LITTLE BIT HIGHER. I ALSO TALKED ABOUT THE NEW WAYS IN WHICH OUR STUDENTS ARE BEING ASSESSED IN SCIENCE NOW WITH THE NEW RESOURCES AND THE NEW STANDARDS, ALL OF THE OVERLAP OF THE STANDARDS COMING TOGETHER. EVEN THOUGH THE DATA ISN'T WHERE WE WOULD HOPE TO BE UP TO THAT 60%, I KNOW THAT OUR CURRICULUM IS REALLY COMING ALONG THE SHARE IN SCIENCE. WE'RE REALLY WORKING TO ENSURE THAT OUR KIDDERS ARE MAKING THOSE CONNECTIONS AND THOSE CONCEPTS. I LOOK FORWARD TO REPORTING BACK IN THE SPRING AND TO SEE HOW MUCH GROWTH THAT WE'VE ACTUALLY HAD IN THAT. ANOTHER THING I WANT TO POINT OUT ABOUT GROWTH. WHEN WE TALK ABOUT THE EXPECTATION TO GROW, IT'S TYPICALLY SAYING, WE WANT OUR KIDS TO GROW A YEAR'S WORTH OF GROWTH. BUT IF WE HAVE KIDDOS THAT ARE UNDERPERFORMING AND THEY PERFORM A YEAR'S WORTH OF GROWTH, WHERE WILL THEY BE AT THE END OF THE YEAR? THEY'LL STILL BE UNDERPERFORMING, BECAUSE THEY WILL HAVE ONLY GROWN A YEAR. THAT WE KNOW IF WE WANT ATYPICAL GROWTH, WE HAVE TO HAVE ATYPICAL INSTRUCTION. THAT'S THE EXCITING THINGS I WANT TO TALK ABOUT. NOW WHAT? NOW, WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR THE TEACHERS? THEN WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR US FROM A DISTRICT PERSPECTIVE? OUR TEACHERS ARE REALLY WORKING WITH OUR KIDDOS AND PART OF THAT SCORECARD IS ABOUT SETTING GOALS. OUR TEACHERS HAVE ACCESS TO EVERY ONE OF THEIR STUDENTS DATA. THEY SIT DOWN WITH THEIR KIDS AND THEY SET REASONABLE GOALS. SOMETIMES THOSE GOALS ARE MORE THAN A YEAR'S WORTH OF GROWTH, AND SO THEY CAN SEE THAT THE WORK THAT THE KIDDO HAS TO PUT IN AND THAT THE TEACHER HAS TO PUT INTO. BUT WHAT ARE WE DOING FROM A DISTRICT PERSPECTIVE? THEY'RE DOING A LOT. WE HAVE INSTRUCTIONAL UNIT PLANS THAT PROVIDE TEACHERS WITH RESOURCES AND INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES TO TEACH. IT'S NOT NECESSARILY ABOUT ADDING MORE INTO THOSE UNIT PLANS, IT'S ABOUT UNDERSTANDING AND INTERNALIZING WHAT WE HAVE IN PLACE AND LEARNING HOW TO USE THOSE TO HELP OUR STUDENTS THE BEST THAT THEY CAN. WHILE WE HAVE THOSE IN THERE, WE'RE WORKING ON THOSE PROCESSES OF INTERNALIZATION, PROVIDING MORE IDEAS FOR TEACHERS FOR THAT INTERVENTION AND THAT EXTENSION PIECE. REMEMBER WE TALKED ABOUT THEY HAVE TO GET HARDER QUESTIONS RIGHT TO SHOW THAT THEY'RE GROWING. THAT'S WHAT'S EXCITING ABOUT THE WORK THAT OUR ADS THAT ARE DOING WITH THEIR CAMPUS PRINCIPALS IS THEY'RE HAVING THOSE DATA MEETINGS AND THEY'RE REALLY GETTING DOWN TO EVERY STUDENT IN EVERY NEED. WE PAID DOWN OVER 84 MILLION IN THE LAST TWO YEARS FROM THE LAST TWO OF THE YEAR OF THESE SCORING YEARS. WHEN YOU ARE IN A ROOFTOP DISTRICT, YOU DO NOT RECEIVE AS MUCH PROPERTY TAX REVENUE PER STUDENT AS ANOTHER DISTRICT, IT'S SIMILAR TO OURS IN THE SAME SCENARIO. THAT'S BECAUSE WE'RE NOT COMMERCIAL. WE DON'T BRING IN THAT MONEY THAT PAYS, SO WE PAY DOWN OUR DEBT AS QUICKLY AS WE CAN, JUST LIKE WE DID IN MONDAY, AND WE TAKE THOSE OPPORTUNITIES TO SAVE AS MUCH AS WE CAN. WE DO MANAGE EVERYTHING REALLY WELL. WE HAVE HILLTOP SECURITIES AS OUR FINANCIAL ADVISORS, JEFF ROBERT, HE'S ONE OF THE TOP AROUND, AND OUR BOND RATING AGENCIES THINK SO TOO.
