ITEM 7, OUR DISCUSSION REGARDING THE BOARD SCORECARD.

I'LL START FIRST WITH MISS THOMAS REGARDING VISION AND GOALS.

WE'RE DOING REALLY WELL [NOISE] ON THIS.

OUR CURRENT STATUS WITH FOCUSING MONITORING THE BOARD DASHBOARD ON A MONTHLY BASIS. WE ARE BLUE. WE DO THAT.

WE HAVE THAT AS A REPORT UNDER THE SUPERINTENDENT REPORT EVERY MONTH, SO THAT IS BLUE.

WE WERE BLUE LAST QUARTER AND WE ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO MOVE FORWARD.

WE'LL BE PITTING OUR GOAL NOT A PROBLEM.

WE'RE STILL WORKING ON SOME DATA FOR THE QUALIFYING STUDENT GROUPS AND DOMAIN 3.

DOMAIN 3, SO WE MIGHT NEED TO DISCUSS THAT AND FIGURE OUT WHAT WE'RE GOING TO DO WITH THAT AT A LATER DATE AND SEE WHAT WE NEED TO ADJUST ON THAT.

THEN MOVING ON TO SUPERINTENDENT, VISIBLE IN THE COMMUNITY, AND THEN VISIBLE ON SCHOOL CAMPUSES.

I BELIEVE LAST QUARTER, [NOISE] I THINK THAT WAS YELLOW, WHICH WE WEREN'T REALLY WORRIED ABOUT BECAUSE WE WERE ONLY REPORTING FOR THAT START IN AUGUST.

DR. CAN TOO DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TIME TO EVEN REALLY GET ON CAMPUS.

SHE IS TOTALLY BLOWING HER GOALS OUT OF THE WATER.

SHE HAD 37 VISITS TO THE COMMUNITY JUST IN THIS QUARTER, WHICH IT'S 25, SO SHE'S BLOWING THAT AWAY.

THEN 72 VISITS ON THE SCHOOL CAMPUS.

THE GOAL IS 35. SHE IS IN BLUE.

SHE IS GOING TO MEET THE TOTAL GOALS THAT WE HAVE OF 107 AND 83.

WE ARE NOT WORRIED THERE. WE'RE DOING REALLY WELL, RIGHT WHERE WE NEED TO BE TO GET WHERE WE NEED TO BE.

NOW, OUR NEXT SPEAKER IS MICHELLE NEWSOM REGARDING SYSTEMS PROCESSES AND ACCOUNTABILITY. [NOISE].

WE ARE 100% ON THAT AT THIS TIME.

WE'RE ON TRACK TO BE WHERE WE NEED TO BE.

THE NEXT THING IS ADEQUATE TRAINING FOR ALL BOARD MEMBERS.

CURRENTLY, WE'RE AT 317.

OUR MINIMUM REQUIREMENT IS ONLY 150 HOURS IF YOU PUT ALL OF US TOGETHER FOR

WHAT'S NEEDED SO WE ARE MORE THAN SUFFICIENTLY MEETING THAT GOAL.

ABILITY TO KEEP BOARD MEETINGS FOCUSED ON STUDENTS AND CONDUCTED IN A VERY TIMELY MANNER.

WE'RE ON TRACK TO GET THAT ACCOMPLISHED AS WELL.

WE'RE AT 39% HERE, BUT WE DON'T HAVE A CONCERN HERE FOR US BECAUSE WE'RE HEADING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

WE WERE PREVIOUSLY MEETING GOALS FOR OUR TRAINING HOURS AND WE EXPECT THAT WE WILL BY THE END OF THE YEAR AS WELL.

NEXT STEPS WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE DOING ALL OF OUR SCHEDULED DEPARTMENT REPORTS, CONTINUE TO DO VERY WELL WITH OUR EXECUTIVE MEETING TIMES AND BE CONSCIENTIOUS OF WHAT WE'RE DOING EVEN AT REGULAR BOARD MEETINGS.

WE'VE BEEN REALLY THOUGHTFUL ABOUT WHAT GETS PUT IN CONSENT AGENDA TO MINIMIZE QUESTIONS ASKED PRIOR TO BOARD MEETINGS SO THAT WE CAN BE REALLY CONSCIENTIOUS OF OUR PRESENTATIONS AND THE TIME TAKEN.

NEXT QUARTER WE FEEL LIKE WE'RE STILL GOING TO BE REACHING ALL OF OUR GOALS AT THAT POINT.

THEN MOVING TO OUR NEXT SECTION, WHICH IS PROGRESS AND ACCOUNTABILITY.

WE'RE PARTICIPATING AND REPORTING ON OUR BOARD ASSIGNED COMMITTEES, WHICH WE WILL DO TONIGHT.

MAKING SURE THAT OUR BOARD OPERATING PROCEDURES ARE UP TO DATE, THEY'RE CURRENT AND BEING FOLLOWED.

WE WILL HAVE A REVIEW DONE BY THE END OF THE YEAR.

WE'RE RIGHT WHERE WE NEED TO BE, AND WE EXPECT THAT ALL THE GOALS WILL BE MET.

BOARD MEMBERS ARE VISIBLE AT SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY EVENTS AND BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS WITH OUR LOCALLY ELECTED OFFICIALS.

OUR CURRENT STATUS, COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS.

WE HAVE COMPLETED SEVEN OUT OF THE 12 SCHEDULED.

WE'RE CURRENTLY ON TRACK TO MEET OUR YEARLY GOAL WITH THOSE.

BOARD MEMBERS HAVE BEEN VISIBLE AT SCHOOL EVENTS AND WE ARE MEETING OUR YEARLY GOALS THERE.

COMMUNITY EVENTS, WE HAVE MET AND EXCEEDED OUR YEARLY GOALS, BUT WE STILL NEED SOME IMPROVEMENT IN BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS WITH OUR LOCALLY ELECTED OFFICIALS.

FROM THE PREVIOUS QUARTER, AGAIN, COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS AS OF RIGHT NOW REQUIRE SOME IMPROVEMENT SIMPLY BECAUSE WE HAVEN'T REACHED ALL OF THOSE CONVERSATIONS YET.

WE'RE STILL ON TRACK TO MEET THAT.

AGAIN, WE'RE ON TRACK WITH COMMUNITY EVENTS, SCHOOL EVENTS.

BUT LIKE I SAID, THE BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS WITH OUR LOCALLY ELECTED OFFICIALS STILL NEED SOME WORK.

OUR NEXT STEPS IS JUST CONTINUE WHAT WE'VE BEEN DOING WITH THE COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS.

WE HAVE 12 CONFIRMED DATES.

POSSIBLY ONE MORE TO ADD WHICH WILL HELP US TO EXCEED THAT GOAL.

THE ADVOCACY COMMITTEE WILL NEED TO MAKE SOME EFFORTS TO CONTACT OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS, EXTEND INVITATIONS TO VISIT MISD, ENCOURAGE FACE TO FACE MEETINGS.

WE NEED TO ALL BE DOING THAT.

BUT WE DO HAVE THE COMMITTEE FOR THAT AS WELL.

BUT THE BOARD NEEDS TO CONTINUE OUR EFFORTS IN ATTENDING SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY EVENTS.

WE DO A GREAT JOB WITH THAT.

WE JUST NEED TO CONTINUE ON THAT ROUTE.

AGAIN, ALL OF THOSE ARE EXPECTED WITHIN THE NEXT QUARTER TO MEET OR EVEN EXCEED OUR GOALS.

FOR SYNERGY AND TEAMWORK, ONCE A QUARTER WE HAVE A PROGRESS MEETING PLUS A TEAM OF EIGHT TRAINING, AND THEN ALSO BUILDING UNITY WITHIN THE BOARD WORKING AS A TEAM OF EIGHT.

OUR CURRENT STATUS IS WE'RE ON TRACK TO MEET OUR YEARLY GOALS WITH THE PROGRESS MEETINGS TEAM OF EIGHT.

BUILDING UNITY AND PARTNERSHIPS WITH THE BOARD.

CURRENTLY, WE NEED SOME IMPROVED EFFORTS WITH THAT FROM ALL BOARD MEMBERS.

PREVIOUS QUARTER, AGAIN, WE'RE MEETING OUR GOAL AS FAR AS THE TEAM OF EIGHT TRAINING AND SO FORTH.

BUT AGAIN, WE NEED SOME IMPROVEMENT FROM THE BUILDING UNITY AND PARTNERSHIPS.

FOR OUR NEXT STEPS, WE WANT TO CONTINUE TO HAVE OUR QUARTERLY WORK SESSIONS, MEETINGS, AND EACH BOARD MEMBER NEEDS TO MAKE A CONSCIENTIOUS EFFORT TO REACH OUT TO EACH OTHER AND PLAN ACTIVITIES TO DO THAT BUILDING UNITY TOGETHER.

AGAIN, NEXT QUARTER, WE EXPECT TO BE ABLE TO MEET THOSE YEARLY GOALS.

WITH THIS, IT IS CHALLENGING.

EVERYBODY SHOULD BE MAKING, AND I'M GOING TO STRESS THE WORD, CONSCIENTIOUS EFFORT TO REACH OUT TO THE OTHER ONE TO DO THINGS.

I'M GOING TO USE BIANCA AS AN EXAMPLE, WHEN SHE REACHES OUT AND SAYS, HEY, DEZ, MY DAUGHTER'S PLAYING VOLLEYBALL TONIGHT. YOU WANT TO GO? YEAH. SHE MADE A CONSCIENTIOUS EFFORT TO REACH OUT TO ME TO JOIN HER.

MAKE SURE WE'RE DOING THAT AND NOT JUST GETTING TOGETHER BY CHANCE.

IF WE JUST END UP AT AN EVENT OR WHATEVER, EVEN THOUGH WE'RE LIKE, OH, OKAY, I'LL SET BY YOU, BIANCA, AND WE'LL CHIT CHAT.

THAT'S NOT REALLY A CONSCIENTIOUS EFFORT TO REACH OUT TO ANOTHER BOARD MEMBER.

THAT'S WHAT WE NEED TO REALLY BE DOING, BECAUSE THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A CHALLENGE.

IF IT'S EASY AND WE JUST ARE CHECKING A BOX TO GET TO THE BLUE, THAT IS NOT GOING TO IMPROVE US AS A BOARD, AND WE WANT TO BUILD THOSE RELATIONSHIPS.

I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WHEN WE'RE TURNING THOSE MEETINGS IN, THAT WE'RE TRULY DOING A CONSCIENTIOUS EFFORT TO REACH OUT TO THE OTHER ONE.

>> I WANTED TO SAY THAT WHEN WE WERE AT TASB LAST YEAR, I GUESS THAT WAS JUNE, THE SCORECARD WAS THE ONE THING THAT EVERY DISTRICT TALKED ABOUT WITH MANSFIELD LSD, THE FACT THAT WE HAD A SCORECARD, AND THIS IS WHEN YOU ALL WERE PRESENTING.

I WAS NEWLY ELECTED AND THE PEOPLE WERE BUZZING ABOUT IT.

WELL, HOW COULD WE DO IT? WELL, YOU NEED TO COME TO THE PRESENTATION AND YOU'LL SEE WE'RE GOING TO EXPLAIN IT TO YOU.

I THINK REALLY, REALLY MAKING A CONSCIENTIOUS EFFORT TO GET TOGETHER, EVEN IF IT'S MORE PERSONAL.

BIANCA AND I HAVE ACTUALLY SAT AT A VOLLEYBALL GAME TOGETHER, BUT EVEN IF WE'D LIKE COFFEE OR TEA OR SOMETHING WALKING IN THE PARK, I DON'T KNOW.

BUT WE DO NEED TO MAKE A CONSCIENTIOUS EFFORT TO DO THAT.

THIS IS THE ONE COMPONENT THAT EVERY DISTRICT WANTED TO INCORPORATE, AND SO I THINK THIS PUTS US AT THE TOP WITH OUR OWN PERSONAL BOARD GOAL. YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT?

SO SHE IS CORRECT.

EVEN WITH SOME OF THE TRAININGS THAT I DO, THIS IS A BIG THING THAT PEOPLE ARE NOT ONLY IMPRESSED WITH BUT THEY ALSO WANT TO INCORPORATE IT INTO THEIR SYSTEMS. I LIKE THE STATEMENTS THAT BOTH OF YOU MADE AS FAR AS I'M JUST AS GUILTY.

JUST THINKING MORE ABOUT MAYBE BEING MORE ASSERTIVE WITH OUR WORK.

BECAUSE AGAIN, I NEVER LIKE A SCORECARD THAT YOU CAN ALREADY CHECK ALL THE BOXES BECAUSE THAT DEFEATS THE PURPOSE.

THAT GOES WITH ANYTHING, SO EVEN SOME OF THE EVENTS THAT WE GO TO.

IF WE GO TO A TEAM REVIEW IN LAKERIDGE FOOTBALL GAME, THAT'S ONE FOOTBALL GAME, IT DOESN'T COUNT AS TWO JUST BECAUSE BOTH OF OUR TEAMS ARE THERE.

[LAUGHTER] WE ALL GREW UP IN A DAY AND TIME OF THE LITTLE REPORT CARDS THAT THE TEACHERS CHECK THE BOXES, AND SO WE'VE LEARNED HOW TO WORK THE SYSTEM.

OUR STAFF AS A WHOLE I THINK ARE REALLY BEING TEAM PLAYERS.

BUT IT JUST TOUCHES ON THINGS LIKE SECURITY, CYBERSECURITY, SAFETY AND SECURITY, EMPLOYMENT PRACTICES, LEAVES AND ABSENCES, PERSONNEL POSITIONS, SPECIAL PROGRAMS, COMPENSATORY SERVICES AND INTENSIVE PROGRAMS, ACCELERATED INSTRUCTION, CLASS RANKING, COMPULSATORY ATTENDANCE, WELLNESS AND HEALTH SERVICES AS FAR AS MEDICAL TREATMENT GOES, CRISIS INTERVENTION, STUDENT RECORDS, AND THEN DISCIPLINARY ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION PROGRAM OPERATIONS.

IT'S QUITE A BIT. SO IT'S GOING TO TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF TIME.

JUST AS IMPORTANT AND VERY IMPRESSIVE, OUR OWN SUPERINTENDENT, DR. CANTU, AND HER TEAM PRESENTED THE BOND TO THE DELEGATES AND ENTERTAINED QUESTIONS AND ANSWERED THOSE QUESTIONS THAT THE DELEGATES MAY HAVE HAD TO THE POINT WHERE THEY HAD A GREAT ENGAGING CONVERSATION ABOUT THAT.
