I'LL ASK IF EVERYONE WILL PLEASE RISE AS TRUSTEE KEZIA FARRAR LEADS US IN PRAYER, FOLLOWED BY THE PLEDGES WHICH WE LED BY TRUSTEE BIANCA BENEVITEZ ANDERSON.THANK YOU. WE MOVE ON TO OUR NEXT SECTION, WHICH IS SECTION 6, PUBLIC COMMENTS.
AT THIS TIME, I DON'T HAVE ANY.
MR. WILLIAMS CONFIRMS THAT WE DON'T HAVE ANY THIS EVENING, SO I'LL SPARE YOU THE READING.
[7. Discussion]
WE'LL MOVE ON TO WHAT WE ACTUALLY CAME FOR.ITEM 7, OUR DISCUSSION REGARDING THE BOARD SCORECARD.
I'LL START FIRST WITH MISS THOMAS REGARDING VISION AND GOALS.
WE'RE DOING REALLY WELL [NOISE] ON THIS.
OUR CURRENT STATUS WITH FOCUSING MONITORING THE BOARD DASHBOARD ON A MONTHLY BASIS. WE ARE BLUE. WE DO THAT.
WE HAVE THAT AS A REPORT UNDER THE SUPERINTENDENT REPORT EVERY MONTH, SO THAT IS BLUE.
WE WERE BLUE LAST QUARTER AND WE ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO MOVE FORWARD.
WE'LL BE PITTING OUR GOAL NOT A PROBLEM.
WE'RE STILL WORKING ON SOME DATA FOR THE QUALIFYING STUDENT GROUPS AND DOMAIN 3.
DOMAIN 3, SO WE MIGHT NEED TO DISCUSS THAT AND FIGURE OUT WHAT WE'RE GOING TO DO WITH THAT AT A LATER DATE AND SEE WHAT WE NEED TO ADJUST ON THAT.
THEN MOVING ON TO SUPERINTENDENT, VISIBLE IN THE COMMUNITY, AND THEN VISIBLE ON SCHOOL CAMPUSES.
I BELIEVE LAST QUARTER, [NOISE] I THINK THAT WAS YELLOW, WHICH WE WEREN'T REALLY WORRIED ABOUT BECAUSE WE WERE ONLY REPORTING FOR THAT START IN AUGUST.
DR. CAN TOO DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TIME TO EVEN REALLY GET ON CAMPUS.
SHE IS TOTALLY BLOWING HER GOALS OUT OF THE WATER.
SHE HAD 37 VISITS TO THE COMMUNITY JUST IN THIS QUARTER, WHICH IT'S 25, SO SHE'S BLOWING THAT AWAY.
THEN 72 VISITS ON THE SCHOOL CAMPUS.
THE GOAL IS 35. SHE IS IN BLUE.
SHE IS GOING TO MEET THE TOTAL GOALS THAT WE HAVE OF 107 AND 83.
WE ARE NOT WORRIED THERE. WE'RE DOING REALLY WELL, RIGHT WHERE WE NEED TO BE TO GET WHERE WE NEED TO BE.
NOW, OUR NEXT SPEAKER IS MICHELLE NEWSOM REGARDING SYSTEMS PROCESSES AND ACCOUNTABILITY. [NOISE].
>> FOR OUR SYSTEMS PROCESSES, WE HAVE SCHEDULED REPORTS FROM OUR DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS WITHIN MISD.
WE ARE 100% ON THAT AT THIS TIME.
WE'RE ON TRACK TO BE WHERE WE NEED TO BE.
THE NEXT THING IS ADEQUATE TRAINING FOR ALL BOARD MEMBERS.
OUR MINIMUM REQUIREMENT IS ONLY 150 HOURS IF YOU PUT ALL OF US TOGETHER FOR
[00:05:03]
WHAT'S NEEDED SO WE ARE MORE THAN SUFFICIENTLY MEETING THAT GOAL.ABILITY TO KEEP BOARD MEETINGS FOCUSED ON STUDENTS AND CONDUCTED IN A VERY TIMELY MANNER.
WE'RE ON TRACK TO GET THAT ACCOMPLISHED AS WELL.
WE'RE AT 39% HERE, BUT WE DON'T HAVE A CONCERN HERE FOR US BECAUSE WE'RE HEADING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.
WE WERE PREVIOUSLY MEETING GOALS FOR OUR TRAINING HOURS AND WE EXPECT THAT WE WILL BY THE END OF THE YEAR AS WELL.
NEXT STEPS WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE DOING ALL OF OUR SCHEDULED DEPARTMENT REPORTS, CONTINUE TO DO VERY WELL WITH OUR EXECUTIVE MEETING TIMES AND BE CONSCIENTIOUS OF WHAT WE'RE DOING EVEN AT REGULAR BOARD MEETINGS.
WE'VE BEEN REALLY THOUGHTFUL ABOUT WHAT GETS PUT IN CONSENT AGENDA TO MINIMIZE QUESTIONS ASKED PRIOR TO BOARD MEETINGS SO THAT WE CAN BE REALLY CONSCIENTIOUS OF OUR PRESENTATIONS AND THE TIME TAKEN.
NEXT QUARTER WE FEEL LIKE WE'RE STILL GOING TO BE REACHING ALL OF OUR GOALS AT THAT POINT.
THEN MOVING TO OUR NEXT SECTION, WHICH IS PROGRESS AND ACCOUNTABILITY.
WE'RE PARTICIPATING AND REPORTING ON OUR BOARD ASSIGNED COMMITTEES, WHICH WE WILL DO TONIGHT.
MAKING SURE THAT OUR BOARD OPERATING PROCEDURES ARE UP TO DATE, THEY'RE CURRENT AND BEING FOLLOWED.
[NOISE] WE ARE ON TIME FOR THIS.
WE WILL HAVE A REVIEW DONE BY THE END OF THE YEAR.
[NOISE] ALL OF OUR BOARD MEMBERS HAVE THREE COMMITTEES, AND THEY REPORT A MINIMUM OF TWO TIMES PER YEAR AND EVERYONE'S ON TRACK FOR THAT CURRENTLY AS WELL.
WE'RE RIGHT WHERE WE NEED TO BE, AND WE EXPECT THAT ALL THE GOALS WILL BE MET.
>>THE COURT WILL BE GREAT. THANK YOU MISS SONY, YES, MISS THOMAS.
>> I JUST WANT TO CLARIFY ON OUR SYSTEM REPORTS, [NOISE] THE REASON WE HAD IT MARKED YELLOW LAST, IS BECAUSE THE DISTRICT CHANGED A FEW OF THE REPORTS AROUND.
INSTEAD OF NOVEMBER DOING ATHLETICS, THAT HAS BEEN MOVED TO APRIL, AND THEN COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING, THAT MOVED TO MARCH.
INSTEAD, WE DID THE BOND PRESENTATION.
WE'RE KIND OF TECHNICALLY BEHIND ON WHAT WE ORIGINALLY STARTED WITH, BUT BY MARCH WE'LL BE IN THE GREEN.
I JUST WANTED TO EXPLAIN THAT ON SYSTEMS REPORTS.
>> GREAT, THANK YOU. WE'LL NOW MOVE TO ADVOCACY AND ENGAGEMENT, SYNERGY AND TEAMWORK. MR. TIPPING?
FIRST OF ALL, COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS WILL MEET THE NEEDS OF OUR COMMUNITY.
BOARD MEMBERS ARE VISIBLE AT SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY EVENTS AND BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS WITH OUR LOCALLY ELECTED OFFICIALS.
OUR CURRENT STATUS, COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS.
WE HAVE COMPLETED SEVEN OUT OF THE 12 SCHEDULED.
WE'RE CURRENTLY ON TRACK TO MEET OUR YEARLY GOAL WITH THOSE.
BOARD MEMBERS HAVE BEEN VISIBLE AT SCHOOL EVENTS AND WE ARE MEETING OUR YEARLY GOALS THERE.
COMMUNITY EVENTS, WE HAVE MET AND EXCEEDED OUR YEARLY GOALS, BUT WE STILL NEED SOME IMPROVEMENT IN BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS WITH OUR LOCALLY ELECTED OFFICIALS.
FROM THE PREVIOUS QUARTER, AGAIN, COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS AS OF RIGHT NOW REQUIRE SOME IMPROVEMENT SIMPLY BECAUSE WE HAVEN'T REACHED ALL OF THOSE CONVERSATIONS YET.
WE'RE STILL ON TRACK TO MEET THAT.
AGAIN, WE'RE ON TRACK WITH COMMUNITY EVENTS, SCHOOL EVENTS.
BUT LIKE I SAID, THE BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS WITH OUR LOCALLY ELECTED OFFICIALS STILL NEED SOME WORK.
OUR NEXT STEPS IS JUST CONTINUE WHAT WE'VE BEEN DOING WITH THE COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS.
POSSIBLY ONE MORE TO ADD WHICH WILL HELP US TO EXCEED THAT GOAL.
THE ADVOCACY COMMITTEE WILL NEED TO MAKE SOME EFFORTS TO CONTACT OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS, EXTEND INVITATIONS TO VISIT MISD, ENCOURAGE FACE TO FACE MEETINGS.
BUT WE DO HAVE THE COMMITTEE FOR THAT AS WELL.
BUT THE BOARD NEEDS TO CONTINUE OUR EFFORTS IN ATTENDING SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY EVENTS.
WE JUST NEED TO CONTINUE ON THAT ROUTE.
AGAIN, ALL OF THOSE ARE EXPECTED WITHIN THE NEXT QUARTER TO MEET OR EVEN EXCEED OUR GOALS.
FOR SYNERGY AND TEAMWORK, ONCE A QUARTER WE HAVE A PROGRESS MEETING PLUS A TEAM OF EIGHT TRAINING, AND THEN ALSO BUILDING UNITY WITHIN THE BOARD WORKING AS A TEAM OF EIGHT.
OUR CURRENT STATUS IS WE'RE ON TRACK TO MEET OUR YEARLY GOALS WITH THE PROGRESS MEETINGS TEAM OF EIGHT.
BUILDING UNITY AND PARTNERSHIPS WITH THE BOARD.
CURRENTLY, WE NEED SOME IMPROVED EFFORTS WITH THAT FROM ALL BOARD MEMBERS.
[00:10:04]
PREVIOUS QUARTER, AGAIN, WE'RE MEETING OUR GOAL AS FAR AS THE TEAM OF EIGHT TRAINING AND SO FORTH.BUT AGAIN, WE NEED SOME IMPROVEMENT FROM THE BUILDING UNITY AND PARTNERSHIPS.
FOR OUR NEXT STEPS, WE WANT TO CONTINUE TO HAVE OUR QUARTERLY WORK SESSIONS, MEETINGS, AND EACH BOARD MEMBER NEEDS TO MAKE A CONSCIENTIOUS EFFORT TO REACH OUT TO EACH OTHER AND PLAN ACTIVITIES TO DO THAT BUILDING UNITY TOGETHER.
AGAIN, NEXT QUARTER, WE EXPECT TO BE ABLE TO MEET THOSE YEARLY GOALS.
>> GREAT. THANK YOU, MR. TIPPING. TRUSTEES, DID ANYONE ELSE HAVE ANY DISCUSSION? MISS THOMAS, SORRY.
>> YEAH. I JUST WANT TO ADD A LITTLE BIT HOW WE ARE LOGGING OUR BOARD UNITY BUILDING.
WE DO TWO ACTIVITIES WITH EACH BOARD MEMBER. DOES IT MAKE SENSE? EACH ONE OF US HAVE TO MEET WITH EVERYBODY ON THE BOARD AT LEAST TWICE.
WE PUT THIS ON HERE BECAUSE IT'S GOING TO CHALLENGE US.
IF WE'RE NOT PUTTING THINGS ON HERE THAT ARE GOING TO CHALLENGE US, WE'RE NOT GOING TO BE A BETTER BOARD.
EVERYBODY SHOULD BE MAKING, AND I'M GOING TO STRESS THE WORD, CONSCIENTIOUS EFFORT TO REACH OUT TO THE OTHER ONE TO DO THINGS.
I'M GOING TO USE BIANCA AS AN EXAMPLE, WHEN SHE REACHES OUT AND SAYS, HEY, DEZ, MY DAUGHTER'S PLAYING VOLLEYBALL TONIGHT. YOU WANT TO GO? YEAH. SHE MADE A CONSCIENTIOUS EFFORT TO REACH OUT TO ME TO JOIN HER.
MAKE SURE WE'RE DOING THAT AND NOT JUST GETTING TOGETHER BY CHANCE.
IF WE JUST END UP AT AN EVENT OR WHATEVER, EVEN THOUGH WE'RE LIKE, OH, OKAY, I'LL SET BY YOU, BIANCA, AND WE'LL CHIT CHAT.
THAT'S NOT REALLY A CONSCIENTIOUS EFFORT TO REACH OUT TO ANOTHER BOARD MEMBER.
THAT'S WHAT WE NEED TO REALLY BE DOING, BECAUSE THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A CHALLENGE.
IF IT'S EASY AND WE JUST ARE CHECKING A BOX TO GET TO THE BLUE, THAT IS NOT GOING TO IMPROVE US AS A BOARD, AND WE WANT TO BUILD THOSE RELATIONSHIPS.
I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WHEN WE'RE TURNING THOSE MEETINGS IN, THAT WE'RE TRULY DOING A CONSCIENTIOUS EFFORT TO REACH OUT TO THE OTHER ONE.
>> THAT'S A GOOD POINT, MISS THOMAS. DR. REID.
>> I WANTED TO SAY THAT WHEN WE WERE AT TASB LAST YEAR, I GUESS THAT WAS JUNE, THE SCORECARD WAS THE ONE THING THAT EVERY DISTRICT TALKED ABOUT WITH MANSFIELD LSD, THE FACT THAT WE HAD A SCORECARD, AND THIS IS WHEN YOU ALL WERE PRESENTING.
I WAS NEWLY ELECTED AND THE PEOPLE WERE BUZZING ABOUT IT.
WELL, HOW COULD WE DO IT? WELL, YOU NEED TO COME TO THE PRESENTATION AND YOU'LL SEE WE'RE GOING TO EXPLAIN IT TO YOU.
I THINK REALLY, REALLY MAKING A CONSCIENTIOUS EFFORT TO GET TOGETHER, EVEN IF IT'S MORE PERSONAL.
BIANCA AND I HAVE ACTUALLY SAT AT A VOLLEYBALL GAME TOGETHER, BUT EVEN IF WE'D LIKE COFFEE OR TEA OR SOMETHING WALKING IN THE PARK, I DON'T KNOW.
BUT WE DO NEED TO MAKE A CONSCIENTIOUS EFFORT TO DO THAT.
THIS IS THE ONE COMPONENT THAT EVERY DISTRICT WANTED TO INCORPORATE, AND SO I THINK THIS PUTS US AT THE TOP WITH OUR OWN PERSONAL BOARD GOAL. YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT?
>> YES, MA'AM. THAT'S A GOOD POINT AS WELL.
EVEN WITH SOME OF THE TRAININGS THAT I DO, THIS IS A BIG THING THAT PEOPLE ARE NOT ONLY IMPRESSED WITH BUT THEY ALSO WANT TO INCORPORATE IT INTO THEIR SYSTEMS. I LIKE THE STATEMENTS THAT BOTH OF YOU MADE AS FAR AS I'M JUST AS GUILTY.
JUST THINKING MORE ABOUT MAYBE BEING MORE ASSERTIVE WITH OUR WORK.
BECAUSE AGAIN, I NEVER LIKE A SCORECARD THAT YOU CAN ALREADY CHECK ALL THE BOXES BECAUSE THAT DEFEATS THE PURPOSE.
THAT GOES WITH ANYTHING, SO EVEN SOME OF THE EVENTS THAT WE GO TO.
IF WE GO TO A TEAM REVIEW IN LAKERIDGE FOOTBALL GAME, THAT'S ONE FOOTBALL GAME, IT DOESN'T COUNT AS TWO JUST BECAUSE BOTH OF OUR TEAMS ARE THERE.
[LAUGHTER] WE ALL GREW UP IN A DAY AND TIME OF THE LITTLE REPORT CARDS THAT THE TEACHERS CHECK THE BOXES, AND SO WE'VE LEARNED HOW TO WORK THE SYSTEM.
LET'S FIX IT [LAUGHTER] AND REALLY HOLD OURSELVES ACCOUNTABLE AND TRY TO BE AS GREAT AS WE KNOW WE ARE.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE? I'VE GOT MY NOTES RIGHT HERE FOR THE NEXT PART OF THE MEETING, BUT ANYTHING ELSE REGARDING THE SCORECARD WHILE WE'RE HERE?
LIKE I SAID, THERE'S A FEW AREAS THAT WE JUST NEED TO CONCENTRATE AND FOCUS ON, AND I THINK AS A BOARD, WE'RE DOING PRETTY GOOD.
>> YES. THANK YOU FOR ALL THIS GROUP'S WORK ON THIS BECAUSE I KNOW IT IS A LOT TO ALSO NOT ONLY FIND IT, AND I'M SURE YOU GUYS WOULD AGREE THAT WE'RE NOT THE ONES THAT KEEP ALL THIS STUFF TOGETHER.
THAT IT'S A LOT FOR JUST REMEMBERING MYSELF, WHAT I HAVE OR HAVEN'T DONE.
BUT YOU GUYS ARE KEEPING UP WITH IT FOR THE WHOLE SQUAD.
[00:15:02]
SO I APPRECIATE YOUR GROUPS, ESPECIALLY WITH WHAT YOU ALL ARE DOING FOR US.THEN WE WILL MOVE ON TO OUR COMMITTEE REPORTING AND I'LL START WITH THE SAFETY.
I KNOW THAT MIGHT ASK MR. BROGDEN CHIME IN HERE WITH ME, BUT WE'VE ROLLED OUT, EVOLVED OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS, I GUESS.
AS ANY NEW PROCESS GOES, I KNOW THAT THERE'S SOME PLACES HERE AND THERE THAT WE'RE TWEAKING AND LEARNING, BUT IT SEEMS TO BE A PRETTY AWESOME SYSTEM FOR ANYONE THAT WOULD HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY OR WANT TO JUST SEE WHAT WE'RE REALLY TALKING ABOUT WHEN YOU RECOGNIZE THE FACT THAT WE ARE AGAIN, A VERY FORTUNATE DISTRICT TO HAVE SOMETHING THAT MOST ALL OTHERS WOULD, I'M SURE, LOVE TO HAVE.
IT'S A REALLY GREAT SYSTEM FOR US.
AGAIN, OUR SAFETY AND SECURITY PEOPLE PER CAMPUS CONTINUE ON WITH THEIR CHECKPOINTS.
OUR STAFF AS A WHOLE I THINK ARE REALLY BEING TEAM PLAYERS.
WHAT DO YOU SAY, MR. BROGDEN? DID YOU HAVE ANYTHING YOU WANT TO TOUCH ON WITH SAFETY?
>> I WOULD SAY THAT JUST LIKE YOU SAID, ANY PROCESS ALWAYS TAKES A FEW MINUTES TO GET EVERYBODY ACCLIMATED TO IT.
BUT WE GET FREQUENT REPORTS ON IT AND IT'S CONTINUED TO GET BETTER DAY AFTER DAY.
>> THANK YOU. AGAIN, I'M PRETTY PROUD OF THAT SYSTEM.
I'M PRETTY PROUD OF OUR STAFF AND YOU GUYS ROLLING IT OUT AND GETTING IT GOING AS BEST AS YOU CAN.
WITH THAT, WE WILL MOVE ON TO OUR NEXT COMMITTEE REPORT, POLICY COMMITTEE. MISS FARRAR .
>> YES. POLICY COMMITTEE HAS BEEN MEETING PRETTY REGULARLY ABOUT ONCE A MONTH, ONCE EVERY SIXISH WEEKS, I WOULD SAY.
WE MET PROBABLY TWO OR THREE WEEKS AGO AND WE STARTED DIGGING INTO THE TASB 122 UPDATE.
IT DOES HAVE QUITE A BIT OF THINGS TO LOOK THROUGH.
WE'RE NOT QUITE READY TO BRING IT TO THE BOARD FOR UPDATING.
BUT I WAS JUST GOING TO TOUCH ON SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WE ARE LOOKING AT EITHER.
I'M NOT GOING TO GO INTO SPECIFICS, BUT JUST HIGHLIGHTS OF WHAT WE'RE LOOKING AT.
THEN THAT WILL, ONCE WE GET WORK THROUGH ALL OF IT, MAKE THE CHANGES, DELETIONS, A LOT OF MOVING AROUND, THEN WE'LL BE BRINGING THAT PROBABLY IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF MONTHS.
BUT IT JUST TOUCHES ON THINGS LIKE SECURITY, CYBERSECURITY, SAFETY AND SECURITY, EMPLOYMENT PRACTICES, LEAVES AND ABSENCES, PERSONNEL POSITIONS, SPECIAL PROGRAMS, COMPENSATORY SERVICES AND INTENSIVE PROGRAMS, ACCELERATED INSTRUCTION, CLASS RANKING, COMPULSATORY ATTENDANCE, WELLNESS AND HEALTH SERVICES AS FAR AS MEDICAL TREATMENT GOES, CRISIS INTERVENTION, STUDENT RECORDS, AND THEN DISCIPLINARY ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION PROGRAM OPERATIONS.
IT'S QUITE A BIT. SO IT'S GOING TO TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF TIME.
BUT LIKE I SAID, IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF MONTHS, WE SHOULD HAVE SOMETHING TO BRING AND IT WILL BE DETAILED ON THE AGENDA.
>> AWESOME. THANK YOU. MISS ANDERSON, DID YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO REPORT OUT ON TASB? THERE'S REALLY NOT THAT MUCH TO UPDATE.
I WILL SAY THAT FOR THEIR 75TH ANNIVERSARY, THEY LAUNCHED A NEW BRAND AND WEBSITE.
THAT'S INTERESTING, MAYBE GO ON AND CHECK OUT.
IT'S ACTUALLY EASY TO READ AND IT'S A LOT BETTER ON YOUR PHONE NOW.
THAT WASN'T AS ACCESSIBLE BEFORE.
THE OTHER THING THAT THEY DID WAS THEY RECOGNIZED ALL ACROSS, OBVIOUSLY, THE STATE SCHOOL BOARD APPRECIATION, AND I WANTED TO TAKE THAT MOMENT TO SAY, OUR SCHOOLS ARE SUPER FANTASTIC.
I ALREADY HAVE CHILLS JUST FROM THE SCHOOL THAT APPRECIATED ME AND THEN EVERYTHING WE HAD UP HERE.
BUT I KNOW EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU FELT THE SAME WAY WHEN YOU WENT OUT THERE AND HOW MUCH WE'RE APPRECIATED.
SO I WANTED TO TELL DR. CANTU AND HER STAFF THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR INVITING AND HAVING THAT CULTURE. I APPRECIATE Y'ALL.
THAT'S A GOOD POINT. I'M STILL ENJOYING MY TISSUE PAPER BOUQUET AND FLOWERS [LAUGHTER] MADE BY THE PRE K ACADEMY, THE ONE AND ONLY, THE SARAH JANDRUCKO EARLY LEARNERS ACADEMY.
I WAS GOING TO ADD TO THE TASB THAT WE ARE HAVING A MEETING IN THIS MONTH ON THE 21ST, IN THE GRASSROOTS MEETING WHERE WE HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO, I DON'T WANT TO SAY DICTATE, SCRATCH THAT, TO INFORM TASB OF OUR CONCERNS AND THE THINGS THAT WE'D LIKE FOR THEM TO ADVOCATE TO OUR STATE LEGISLATOR.
SO I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT FOR US TO ATTEND THAT MEETING THIS 21ST OF FEBRUARY.
THEN MS. NEWSOM FOR THE FINANCIAL REVIEW COMMITTEE? YES, MA'AM. OUR AUDIT COMMITTEE MET ON JANUARY 22ND.
AT THAT TIME, WE REVIEWED THE BUDGET CALENDAR.
[00:20:01]
IN JANUARY, WE DISCUSSED ENROLLMENT PROJECTIONS.IN FEBRUARY, WE DISCUSSED ADDITIONAL REQUESTS THAT ARE SUBMITTED, CAMPUS AND DEPARTMENT BUDGETS ARE DUE.
WE ARE ON TRACK WITH OUR BUDGET CALENDAR CURRENTLY.
AS AN AUDIT COMMITTEE, WE ALSO REVIEWED SOME OF THE MORE FINER DETAILS OF THE BOND PROPOSAL AS SUCH.
WE HAVE MET AND WE'RE RIGHT ON TRACK.
YES, I'M SURE YOU ALL HAVE BEEN BUSY, HAVEN'T YOU? IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS. MISS THOMAS, BOARD OPERATING PROCEDURE COMMITTEE.
YES, WE SHOULD BE MEETING IN THE NEXT MONTH OR SO.
WE'RE TRYING TO ALIGN OUR BOARD OPERATING PROCEDURES WHERE THEY MATCH POLICY.
WE'VE CHANGED ONE AND NOT THE OTHER.
SO THE GOAL IS TO HAVE THOSE READY IF WE HAVE TO DO ANY POLICY CHANGES TO BE PRESENTED IN MARCH, AND THEN WE VOTE.
WE ALWAYS UPDATE THEM OR REVIEW OUR BOARD OPERATING PROCEDURES IN APRIL.
SO THOSE SHOULD BE READY FOR OUR BOARD APPROVAL IF WE CHANGE ANYTHING, AND MAINLY IT'S JUST ALIGNING OUR POLICY WITH OUR BOARD OPERATING PROCEDURES.
SO THAT COMMITTEE SHOULD BE MEETING HERE PRETTY SOON.
AWESOME, AND THANK YOU FOR POINTING THAT.
A LOT OF TIMES, AND THAT IS ANOTHER THING, DR. REID TO YOUR POINT EARLIER, THAT DISTRICTS HAVE NOTICED ALSO ABOUT OUR BOARD OPERATING PROCEDURES, AND THEY'RE NOT JUST SET UP LIKE A A SET OF CLASSROOM RULES, AND SOMETIMES, ESPECIALLY FOR THE MIDDLES.
BUT IT ACTUALLY REFERS TO OUR POLICY AND WE TRY TO MAKE THINGS COINCIDE WITH EACH OTHER SO THAT IT'S NOT CONFLICTING.
ALL SHOULD BE HAPPENING HERE SOON.
FOR OUR ADVOCACY COMMITTEE, WE CONTINUE TO INVITE OUR LOCAL AND STATE ELECTED OFFICIALS TO OUR ACTIVITIES THAT WE HAVE.
SO WE INVITED THEM AND MANY OF THEM CAME OUT FOR THE TOYS FOR TOTS, WHICH WAS VERY SUCCESSFUL.
ON LAST EVENING, WE HAD OUR COUNCIL OF PTAS.
THE DELEGATES MET AND WE HAD STATE SENATOR ROYCE WEST AND STATE REPRESENTATIVE CHRIS TURNER WHO WERE THERE TO COMMUNICATE WHATEVER THE CONCERNS WERE AND ALSO TALK ABOUT THEIR SUPPORT FOR MISD.
JUST AS IMPORTANT AND VERY IMPRESSIVE, OUR OWN SUPERINTENDENT, DR. CANTU, AND HER TEAM PRESENTED THE BOND TO THE DELEGATES AND ENTERTAINED QUESTIONS AND ANSWERED THOSE QUESTIONS THAT THE DELEGATES MAY HAVE HAD TO THE POINT WHERE THEY HAD A GREAT ENGAGING CONVERSATION ABOUT THAT.
THE STATE REPRESENTATIVE, CHRIS TURNER, WAS THERE AND WAS ABLE TO TAKE IN ALL OF THE DIFFERENT PROPOSITIONS, THOSE FIVE DIFFERENT PROPOSITIONS, AND WAS AWARE OF WHAT WE WERE SEEKING IN TERMS OF THE BOND.
BUT I WANT TO MAKE A POINT, OUR REPRESENTATIVE, DAVID COOK, WAS NOT ABLE TO MAKE IT, BUT HE HAS MADE PLANS AND MEETINGS TO MEET WITH THOSE DELEGATES TO SET UP.
SO WE ARE GRATEFUL THAT OUR REPRESENTATIVES IN THIS AREA ARE SUPPORTIVE NOT ONLY OF THE BOND, BUT ALSO SUPPORTIVE OF MISD AT LARGE.
THE NEXT STEPS IN THAT WE WANT OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS TO CONTINUE TO COME AND TAKE TOURS OF OUR SCHOOLS AND THE GREAT THINGS THAT WE'RE DOING, AS WELL AS ATTEND THOSE EVENTS, AS THEY HAVE BEEN DOING, TO DEMONSTRATE NOT ONLY HOW GREAT WE'RE DOING AT MISD, BUT ALSO TO HELP US AS WE ARE LAUNCHING INTO A VERY INTERESTING TIME OF THE YEAR. THAT'S ALL I'VE GOT. [LAUGHTER].
LEAVE IT AT THAT. DROP THE MIC.
SO LAST BUT NOT LEAST, WE'RE GOING TO LET THE GUY TALK.
MR. TIPPING, WOULD YOU LIKE TO TELL US ABOUT YOUR TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE? YES. THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME TALK.
[LAUGHTER] SORRY, I HAD TO THROW THAT OUT THERE.
JUST KEEP IT SHORT AND SWEET. I'M KIDDING OKAY, AND TECHNOLOGY, WE'RE DONE. [LAUGHTER] TIME IS UP.
NO. WE'LL START WITH SOME CYBERSECURITY AND DIGITAL SECURITY CAMPAIGN UPDATES THAT HAVE BEEN GOING ON.
THERE'S BEEN THE STAFF, STUDENT, AND FAMILY NEWSLETTERS THAT ARE CONTINUING TO BE DISTRIBUTED OUT BY THE CYBERSECURITY TEAM.
THERE'S BEEN ONE WEBINAR AND THREE IN-PERSON CYBER SAFETY SESSIONS FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS TO BE ABLE TO ATTEND JUST TO GET MORE INFORMATION ABOUT TECHNOLOGY AND THAT DEPARTMENT.
OF COURSE, WE ALL KNOW THE EMAIL SPOOFING PHISHING ASSESSMENTS ARE BEING REGULARLY CONDUCTED FOR STAFF.
WE'VE PROBABLY ALL GOTTEN THEM AS WELL,
[00:25:02]
AND THE OVERALL SCORES ARE IMPROVING, SO THAT'S ALWAYS GOOD, PEOPLE ARE DETECTING THOSE.THIS ONE I THOUGHT WAS VERY SIGNIFICANT, IS THAT THERE'S BEEN A THIRD-PARTY EXTERNAL PENETRATION TEST CONDUCTED AND IT WAS SUCCESSFUL.
WE PASSED THAT. I THINK WE CAN CELEBRATE THAT WITH THE CYBERSECURITY TEAM AND SO FORTH.
TECHNOLOGY PLAN, THE FINAL DRAFT OF THE PLAN HAS BEEN COMPLETED.
THAT WILL BE REVIEWED AND APPROVED SOON BY THE CABINET.
THE SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM CLASSROOMS HAVE RECENTLY RECEIVED NEW IPADS, CHROMEBOOKS, AND CARTS, AND THE CHARGING STATIONS.
BUT ALSO FIRST GRADE STUDENTS HAVE RECENTLY RECEIVED NEW IPADS.
THIS COMPLETES THE ONE TO ONE DEVICE IN THE CLASSROOM.
LYNN PHEARS IS RETIRING AFTER 28 YEARS, SO OBVIOUSLY INTERVIEWING FOR A REPLACEMENT THERE.
BUT OVERALL, STAFFING WITHIN THE TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT IS 92% FULLY STAFFED, WHICH IS GOOD.
ONE MORE HIGHLIGHT, TWO STAFF HAVE RECENTLY ATTENDED A WIRELESS ASSESSMENT TRAINING AND ARE GOING TO BE CERTIFIED IN THAT.
I THINK THAT JUST SHOWS US BEING THAT CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT THAT WE ARE.
THAT IS AWESOME. I KNOW OUR TECHNOLOGY PEOPLE STAY PRETTY BUSY EVEN AS WE SPEAK.
SOME BUSIER THAN OTHERS. I'M KIDDING.
DO WE HAVE ANYBODY ELSE? THAT WAS A LOT MR. TIPPING JUST GAVE US FROM THAT DEPARTMENT.
DR. REID? REPORT ON THE EDUCATION [OVERLAPPING].
I'M SORRY IT CUT OFF ON MY LIST.
I'M SORRY, I HAVE AN ILLEGIBLE LIST.
IT'S OKAY. SO THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION IS VERY VISIBLE IN THE COMMUNITY.
JUST LAST WEEK, WE PARTNERED WITH THE COWTOWN CALF, WHICH IS CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES FOR LIFE AND FITNESS.
THEY GIFTED OUR, I CALL THEM TRACK STARS, OR TRACK RUNNERS IN MANSFIELD LSD SCHOOLS WITH NEW SNEAKERS, NEW SHOES, AND WE WERE ABLE TO FIT THEM, AND IT WAS A JOY TO SEE.
I ALMOST PUT ON SOME SHOES MYSELF AND START BACK RUNNING AGAIN.
WE DID THAT JUST LAST WEEK LITERALLY.
THE FOUNDATION HAS APPLIED FOR OUR TEXAS TRUST FOUNDATION GRANT.
I'LL HAVE THE AMOUNT ON OUR NEXT REPORTING CYCLE.
THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION IS CELEBRATING 25 YEARS.
Y'ALL NOT EXCITED FOR THAT? [APPLAUSE] 25 YEARS ON APRIL 25.
THE FOUNDATION WILL CONTINUE TO PROMOTE GRANT OPPORTUNITIES TO THE DISTRICT SO THAT WE ENCOURAGE OUR TEACHERS TO APPLY.
TO SEE THEM WHEN THEY RECEIVE THOSE GRANTS IS, YOU JUST GET ALL WARM AND FUZZY.
SO WE'RE ASKING OUR TEACHERS TO CONTINUE TO APPLY.
WE ARE GEARING UP FOR OUR ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT, WHICH IS SCHEDULED FOR JUNE 3.
SO I'M SURE THAT DR. CANTU AND HER TEAM WILL HAVE DR. SCOTT, YOU SAID? OKAY, THANK YOU. YES. GEARING UP.
JUNE 3RD IS WHERE WE'RE GOING TO HAVE THAT GOLF TOURNAMENT.
MR. WILLIAMS, DID YOU WANT TO? OKAY, HE'S GOING TO HAVE A TEAM AS WELL.
[LAUGHTER] THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION PARTICIPATED IN AN ADDITIONAL, REMEMBER WE REPORTED BY DP MARS THERE WAS A BOOK VENDING MACHINE.
WELL, THERE WAS A SECOND ONE DELIVERED.
NOW, I WANT TO MENTION THAT THE GRANT WAS SPONSORED BY ATMOS ENERGY.
THIS SECOND ONE WAS DELIVERED TO CHARLOTTE ANDERSON PREPARATORY ACADEMY.
JUST TO GET A BOOK OUT OF A MACHINE.
YOU USED TO GET LIKE M&M'S, NOW WE GET BOOKS, SO WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT.
WE ALSO PARTICIPATED IN THE TOYS FOR TOTS IN DECEMBER, AND WE WERE HONORED TO BE NOMINATED FOR AN AWARD BY OUR MANSFIELD CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
WHAT WE'RE DOING CURRENTLY IS WE ARE ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FROM OUR EDUCATORS IN MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE AREAS OF STEM AND STEAM.
WE ARE HOPING THAT THEY WILL JUST FLOOD US WITH ALL THOSE APPLICATIONS AND WE CAN BEGIN REVIEWING THEM.
THAT IS IT FOR MY REPORTING. THANK YOU.
WELL, IN A GREAT DISTRICT, LOTS OF STUFF GOING ON ALL THE TIME. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE? ANYBODY WANT TO ADD ANYTHING? WELL, WITH THAT, WE WERE ALREADY ADJOURNED AT 07:27 PM.
