WE WILL NOW RECESS INTO CLOSED SESSION AT 6 P.M.
AND HOPEFULLY RECONVENE IN ABOUT FIVE MINUTES.
WE WILL NOW RECONVENE FROM CLOSED SESSION AT 7:31.
[3. Reconvene]
I DO WANT TO APOLOGIZE FOR TAKING A LITTLE LONGER IN CLOSED SESSION.THIS IS A WORKSHOP TYPE MEETING AND SOMETIMES WE DO GO OVER IN THOSE KIND OF CLOSED SESSIONS.
SO I WILL ASK NOW THAT IF EVERYBODY WOULD PLEASE STAND FOR THE PRAYER THAT WILL BE LED BY DR.
BENITA REED AND THE PLEDGES THAT WILL BE LED BY BOARD MEMBER BIANCA BENAVIDEZ-ANDERSON.
[INVOCATION] OKAY. BEFORE WE MOVE TO ITEM 5, I GUESS I WOULD LIKE TO SAY WELCOME TO ALY, OUR NEW BOARD ASSISTANT [APPLAUSE].
AND I KNOW SHE HAS A PROPER TITLE, BUT, SHE HAS A PROPER TITLE, BUT SHE DOES ASSIST US ALL THE TIME.
SO THAT'S WHAT I'M GOING TO CALL HER.
SO BUT ANYWAY, THANK YOU AND FOR TAKING US ON AND CONGRATULATIONS.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I KNOW I ALMOST TOOK IT WITH ME.
SO ITEM 5 IS PUBLIC COMMENTS AND WE DO NOT HAVE ANY THIS EVENING, SO I WILL SPARE EVERYONE MY BIG
[5. Public Comments]
READ. AND SO THEN WE WILL MOVE ON TO ITEM SECTION.SORRY, DISCUSSION ITEM 6.1, THE BOARD SCORECARD AND ACTUALLY THE THREE TO MY RIGHT.
[6. Discussion]
IN CASE YOU ALL THINK I'M SHOWING FAVORITISM ARE THE THREE THAT LAST WORKED ON IT FOR EVERYONE.AND I'LL START WITH WE'LL START WITH MISS THOMAS.
OKAY, SO YOU HAVE A LITTLE PACKET HERE AND THE FIRST PAGE, IF YOU LOOK AT IT, WE HAVE OUR BASELINE.
AND THEN IF YOU LOOK AT THE 22-23 COLUMN, THAT'S WHERE WE LANDED COMPARED TO WHERE OUR BASELINE IS.
SO YOU GUYS CAN KIND OF PERUSE THROUGH THAT AND THAT IS WHAT WE ARE LOOKED AT TO SEE WHERE WE NEEDED TO CHANGE OR ADJUST. IF WE DID REALLY WELL, KIND OF MOVE OUR OUR BASELINE AND OUR GOALS, NOT REALLY OUR BASELINE, BUT OUR GOALS FOR THIS YEAR.
SO IF YOU FLIP TO THE SECOND ONE, EVERYTHING IN BLACK IS STAYING THE SAME.
EVERYTHING IN RED WE DISCUSSED AND WE HAVE ADJUSTED THAT AS A COMMITTEE.
SO EVERYTHING IN RED IS SET AND THAT'S WHAT OUR NEW FIVE YEAR GOAL WILL BE IN THE RED.
BUT IF YOU LOOK UNDER FIVE YEAR GOAL, THAT'S KIND OF WHERE WE'RE SETTING.
[00:05:02]
WE DID BREAK UP AND WE ADDED ANOTHER COLUMN 5.3.SO WE BROUGHT JUST BECAUSE IT WAS HARD TO COLLECT THE DATA ON BOARD MEMBERS VISIBLE AT EVENTS.
BOARD MEMBERS ARE VISIBLE AT SCHOOL EVENTS AND THEN BOARD MEMBERS VISIBLE AT COMMUNITY EVENTS.
AND THEN GOING TO THAT, IF YOU FLIP TO, LET'S SEE THE LAST PAGE, WE'VE BROKEN IT DOWN WHAT OUR MANDATORY COMMUNITY EVENTS, THOSE ARE THE ONES THAT ARE GOING TO MATCH WITH THE COLUMN BOARD MEMBERS VISIBLE AT COMMUNITY EVENTS, 100% PARTICIPATION. THOSE COMMUNITY EVENTS ON THAT CHART ARE THE ONES THAT WE EXPECT ALL SEVEN OF US TO ATTEND AND BE AT.
THE REST OF THEM ARE GOING TO BE THOSE ARE CONSIDERED JUST SCHOOL VISIBLE AT SCHOOL EVENTS AND WE NEED TO ATTEND FIVE OF THOSE PER QUARTER, WHICH IS PRETTY MUCH WHAT WE HAVE BEEN DOING.
IT JUST IT'S BROKEN DOWN WHERE HOPEFULLY IT'S A LITTLE BIT EASIER FOR US TO REPORT ON, UM, BOARD UNITY IF YOU.
OH, LET'S GO BACK TO, LET'S TALK ABOUT OUR COMMITTEE.
THE COMMITTEES ARE THE COMMITTEES ARE IN RED.
IT'S BROKEN UP INTO OUR FOUR WORK SESSIONS AUGUST, NOVEMBER, FEBRUARY AND MAY.
IF YOU LOOK AT THE COMMITTEE REPORTING, IT LISTS EVERYBODY'S NAME.
EVERYBODY'S COMMITTEES ARE ON HERE.
IF YOU'RE IF YOU SEE THE RED BY YOUR NAME, THAT IS WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO BE REPORTING ON THAT MONTH.
THAT'S WHAT YOU WILL BE REPORTING ON THAT MONTH.
WE, YOU KNOW, ALL LAST YEAR WAS PUTTING THE SCORECARD TOGETHER.
AND THIS YEAR WE'RE GOING TO WORK BETTER ON OUR BETTER FOCUS ON OUR WORK SESSIONS.
SO AND LET'S SEE, UM, THEN IF WE GO DOWN TO SYNERGY AND TEAMWORK, UM, WORK SESSIONS, THE ONLY THING WE'VE KIND OF ADJUSTED THERE ARE THE CHARTS THAT WE'VE ATTACHED.
WE'RE JUST GOING TO BE MORE FOCUSED ON THAT.
WE LIKE BOARD UNITY BUILDING BETTER.
I THINK IT WAS MICHELLE THAT DIDN'T LIKE MY LAST ONE.
SO DOES DOES THIS DOES THIS FLOW BETTER MICHELLE? I CAN'T SEE YOU'RE WAY DOWN THERE.
SO ON THIS ONE, IT'S A MINIMUM OF TWO ACTIVITIES WITH EACH BOARD MEMBER THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
SO DOES EVERYBODY UNDERSTAND? CRAIG, DO YOU WANT TO CAN YOU I'M GOING TO PUT YOU ON THE SPOT.
SURE. YOU KNOW, WE TALKED ABOUT WE TALKED ABOUT GETTING THE BOARD UNITY TOGETHER, US TOGETHER TO, YOU KNOW, BUILD THAT CAMARADERIE, BUILD THAT RELATIONSHIP WITH ONE ANOTHER.
AND INSTEAD OF HAVING LIKE, THE BOARD BUDDY, WHERE IT'S JUST ONE INDIVIDUAL THAT YOU'RE LEARNING FROM GROWING WITH AND SO FORTH, WE WANTED THAT TO BE SPREAD ACROSS ALL INDIVIDUALS ON THE BOARD.
AND SO WE WERE LOOKING AT TWO ACTIVITIES PER YEAR.
SO THAT MEANS MYSELF, TWO TIMES DESIREE AND I ARE GOING TO DO SOME TYPE OF ACTIVITY, MAYBE GO TO A SPORTING EVENT TOGETHER, MAYBE GO HAVE LUNCH TOGETHER, WHATEVER IT MAY BE.
AND THEN TWO TIMES A YEAR, BIANCA AND I WILL DO THAT AND SO ON AND SO FORTH.
SO THAT'S THE EXPECTATION THROUGHOUT THE YEARS TO HAVE THAT.
I'M GOING TO THE FOOTBALL GAME.
I'M GOING TO A VOLLEYBALL GAME, HEY, YOU WANT TO COME ALONG WITH ME? WE'LL MEET THERE OR WHATEVER IT MAY BE.
SO WE JUST THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD WAY TO BUILD THAT THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRETY OF THE BOARD.
SO YEAH, THAT'S THAT'S PERFECT.
DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ON THAT ONE? I MEAN, THAT ONE WAS ONE THAT CHALLENGED US A LITTLE BIT BECAUSE WE JUST DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO HOW TO WORK IT OUT.
BUT DOES EVERYBODY GOOD WITH THAT? OKAY. I JUST HAVE A QUESTION.
OKAY. SO IF THIS IS A VOLLEYBALL PLAYOFF GAME AND THERE'S 3 OR 4 OF US THERE, DOES THIS COUNT AS A ACTIVITY. I THINK IT WOULD.
TAKE YOUR BUDDY. I THINK I THINK IT WOULD.
I MEAN, WE'RE ALL USUALLY ARE THERE TOGETHER ANYWAY BUT YEAH.
AND WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THIS IS NOT LIKE DOES IT MEAN SOMEBODY HAS TO DRIVE IN MY CAR? WHAT'S WHAT COUNTS? OH, NO, YOU DEFINITELY HAVE TO CARPOOL.
YOU HAVE TO BE A BUDDY THAT DAY.
[00:10:08]
WHAT WE'RE GOING TO CHECK A BOX THAT LOOKS GOOD TO ME.YOU MAKE THE EFFORT TO CALL AND SAY WHILE YOU'RE AT THE EVENT YOU GUYS WERE SPENDING TIME TOGETHER? YEAH, RIGHT. YOU NEED TO SIT BY EACH OTHER, RIGHT? RIGHT. YEAH. SO I GET THAT, OFFER EACH OTHER A BEVERAGE OR TWO.
YEAH. SOME OF THOSE THINGS IS IS CLARIFYING POINTS THAT WE MAY WANT TO PUT, BECAUSE I DO THINK THAT TO BE PERFECTLY HONEST, WE KNOW THAT PEOPLE ARE LOOKING TO US FOR GUIDANCE WITH SOME OF THESE THINGS.
AND THOSE ARE SOME OF KIND OF THE THE WAYS THAT OTHER PEOPLE COULD KIND OF GET AROUND.
I DON'T THINK THAT WE REALLY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT IN OUR IN OUR GROUP.
BUT IT CAN BE WHERE THERE COULD BE THAT KIND OF SITUATION.
SO JUST MAKING SURE THAT WE'RE CLARIFYING WHAT THAT IS.
BIANCA, WILL YOU DO YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE STUDENT 3.3? SURE. TALKING ABOUT STUDENT FOCUS.
OKAY. SO WE BASICALLY HAVE I THINK WE ALL DISCUSSED IT BEFORE WHERE WE WERE TAKING MINUTES AND TIMES OF EACH THING FROM CLOSED SESSION TO OPEN SESSION, AND WE STARTED MAKING SURE THAT WE WERE, FIRST OF ALL, STUDENT FOCUSED. AND SO FROM NOW ON, WE'VE BEEN STARTING TAKING AGENDA NOTES ON WHAT TIMES WE WERE DOING THINGS, AND WE'RE GOING TO START REPORTING THAT DIFFERENTLY. WE'RE ACTUALLY GOING TO GET TOGETHER WITH ALY, AND WE HAVE A ACTUAL REPORT THAT WE DID BEFORE.
I DON'T KNOW IF YOU ALL REMEMBER THIS.
OKAY. SORRY. SO ESSENTIALLY, WE HAD A TIME USE TRACKER AND WE'RE GOING TO START TO RELAY THIS INFORMATION AS WE GO THROUGHOUT EACH ONE OF OUR AGENDAS AND COME OUT WITH OUR OUR ACTUAL ENGAGEMENT WITH THE STUDENT FOCUS AGENDAS.
SO WE HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN DOING REALLY WELL AT THAT.
I MEAN, EVEN NOW WE HAVE ALREADY UPDATED.
AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO INCREASING THAT NUMBER EVEN FROM 40 TO 50% EVENTUALLY.
I'M GLAD TO SEE YOU GUYS WENT UP ON THIS ONE BECAUSE THIS IS A BIG DEAL TO ME.
AND IT REALLY HELPS US TO KEEP OUR FOCUS ON WHERE IT SHOULD BE, AND THAT IS STUDENT OUTCOMES.
I'M NOT SOMEBODY THAT WANTS TO JUST GIVE THEM A SELF CREDIT BECAUSE SOMEBODY SAID STUDENT IN A BUSINESS PRESENTATION AND WE GOT INTO THE DEPTHS OF THE BUDGET.
THAT DOESN'T COUNT TO ME BECAUSE THAT'S NOT STUDENT FOCUSED.
WE WANT TO BE FOCUSED ON OUR STUDENT OUTCOMES AND OUR VISIONS AND OUR GOALS FOR THE DISTRICT.
AND HOW WE'RE BREAKING IT UP BECAUSE AGAIN, IT WAS BASED ON A DIFFERENT METHOD.
AND THIS ONE, I THINK FITS US BETTER BECAUSE WE ARE SO STUDENT FOCUSED.
SO IT'S IT'S BREAKING IT DOWN TO STUDENT FOCUSED, STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AND STUDENT RECOGNITION AND ALL THAT COUNTS TO BEING A FOCUSED, FOCUSED ON OUR STUDENTS WHICH BIANCA'S WORKED ON THE SPREADSHEET WHERE WE CAN TRACK THAT REALLY WELL.
SO I THINK WE'LL BE ABLE TO GET THERE.
WE'LL PROBABLY GET PAST 40% THIS YEAR.
I MEAN, WE WERE REALLY CLOSE LAST YEAR BEING AT 39%.
SO IT WILL BE EASIER FOR US TO GET TO THE 50, PROBABLY EVEN 55%.
WELL, AND IT BECOMES EASIER TOO, THE MORE WE DO OUR HOMEWORK AND PREPARE FOR THE MEETINGS, YOU KNOW, AND AND, AND JUST THE, THE WHAT WE KEEP FIRST IN OUR IN OUR QUESTIONS AND OUR THOUGHTS AND WHAT'S A PRIORITY.
OKAY. LET ME START DOWN HERE AND WE'LL SEE.
SINCE I KNOW YOU GUYS KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING.
MICHELLE, DID YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? WHAT IS BOC? BOARD OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE THAT WOULD THE PEOPLE THAT ARE WORKING ON THE SCORECARD.
THE COMMITTEE THAT WORKS ON THE SCORECARD.
OKAY. BUT ON I DON'T KNOW WHAT PAGE I'M ON, BUT AND WHEN IT TALKS ABOUT COMMITTEE REPORTING.
SO IF WE'RE NOT ON THAT COMMITTEE, HOW DO WE REPORT ON THAT? YOUR BOP IS BOARD OPERATING PROCEDURES.
[00:15:03]
I MEAN, BOC.OKAY? I DON'T THINK YOU ARE ON BOC.
IS THAT THE THOUGHT? YOU'RE NOT EVER REPORTING ON SOMETHING THAT YOU'RE NOT ON.
I'M NOT REALLY CONCERNED ABOUT MINE.
I'M JUST SAYING MAKING SURE WE FOLLOW WHAT WHAT IT IS LIKE.
WE'RE NOT ASKING BECAUSE IT SAYS YOU WILL BE REPORTING ON WHAT'S IN RED.
SO I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE WE'RE ON IT.
OKAY. WE'RE ON THAT COMMITTEE OR WHATEVER.
RIGHT. SO SO IF YOU LOOK EVERYBODY'S LITTLE SQUARE, THOSE ARE THE COMMITTEES THAT YOU ARE ON.
OKAY. SO COURTNEY IS ON POLICY BOARD OPERATING SAFETY AND BOARD OVERSIGHT.
I'M ON BOARD OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE, POLICY ADVOCACY, AND BOARD OPERATING PROCEDURES.
THOSE ARE MY COMMITTEES AND SEE THAT I'M IN RED.
SO MY JOB TODAY IN AUGUST IS I'M REPORTING ON BOARD OPERATING OR BOARD OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE.
OKAY. CRAIG, I'M GOING TO USE HIM AS AN EXAMPLE.
HE'S ON ALL OF THOSE COMMITTEES LISTED IN THAT SQUARE AND HE'S TECHNOLOGY TODAY.
SO ANYBODY THAT IS I THINK CRAIG ACTUALLY HAS SOMETHING TO REPORT TONIGHT.
SO WE'LL LET HIM REPORT HERE IN A MINUTE.
DOES THAT HELP, MICHELLE? SO YEAH, SO THOSE ARE THOSE ARE YOUR COMMITTEES.
YOU JUST HAVE TO FOCUS ON WHAT'S IN RED ON THOSE WORK SESSIONS.
THAT'S WHAT YOU'LL BE BRIEFING US ON.
SO THEN IF YOU GO TO THE NEXT PAGE.
YES. AND IT SAYS SYSTEMS AND PROCESSES.
YES. SO THAT'S DIFFERENT BECAUSE THERE'S.
YES, IT IS THAT THAT PERTAINS TO THE SCORECARD.
SO EACH SECTION IN THE SCORECARD.
SO, SO SO YOU'RE SO YOU'RE SO WHAT IT REALLY MEANS IS THAT SECTION OF THE SCORECARD.
YEAH, THAT'S THAT'S ALL I NEED.
CAN I JUST ADD A POINT TO THAT? AND I THINK THE REASONING BEHIND THAT IS BECAUSE WE ALL WANTED TO TAKE WE WANT EVERYBODY TO HAVE OWNERSHIP OVER THE SCORECARD.
SO GIVING US ALL A PART OF THAT TO REPORT ON PERIODICALLY WILL HELP US TO DO THAT.
NO, I LIKE IT. YEAH, I LOVE IT.
SO CAN CRAIG. CRAIG, GO AHEAD.
GO AHEAD. I'M STAYING ON YOUR BUSINESS.
ARE YOU DONE? OKAY, MICHELLE, WERE YOU DONE OKAY? DR. REED? YES.
AND WE ACTUALLY ALWAYS HAVE THERE ARE MEETINGS THAT WE CANNOT HELP IT.
YES. BUT LIKE SHE MENTIONED, A STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS, YOU KNOW, ALL THOSE KIND OF THINGS, THOSE COUNT BECAUSE THEY'VE ALWAYS BEEN PART OF WHAT WE CONSIDER TO BE SUCCESSES FOR STUDENTS OR WHAT IN THEIR LONG RUN GOALS.
AND SO IT'S BASED ON AN ACTUAL TIME.
OKAY. SO AND YOU AND I CAN IF YOU WANT TO, BECAUSE I KNOW THIS IS ALL.
YEAH, WE SAVED IT FOR YOU, TO BE PERFECTLY HONEST.
YES. OKAY. FOR YOU TO BE HERE WITH US.
RIGHT. AND SO BUT YEAH, IT'S BASED ON A PERCENTAGE OF THE TIME.
THANK YOU. JUST MORE OF A COUPLE COMMENTS.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE WORK THAT YOU GUYS PUT INTO THIS.
AND YOU GUYS JUST BEING WILLING TO REFINE IT AND UPDATE IT ON AN ONGOING BASIS.
I KNOW THIS IS A LABOR OF LOVE.
SO THANK YOU. I APPRECIATE THIS SO MUCH.
I'M A CHART LIKE I'M VERY VISUAL, SO THIS IS PERFECT FOR ME.
IS THAT CORRECT? AND SO KUDOS TO YOU.
I HEARD THAT YOU GUYS HAVE GOTTEN A LOT OF FEEDBACK.
IT WAS RECEIVED WELL AND WE REALLY APPRECIATE DR.
SO YEAH, WE PRESENTED IN SAN ANTONIO AND FORT WORTH FOR TASBS FOI CONFERENCE.
[00:20:02]
THANK YOU SO AND THANK YOU, KEZIAH, FOR MENTIONING THAT BECAUSE THAT WAS A BIG DEAL AND SO SUPER PROUD OF THE DISTRICT, YOU KNOW, AS A WHOLE.AND WE WERE ABLE TO DO THE PRESENTATION AND YOU GUYS, YOU KNOW, REALLY PUT FORTH THE EFFORT IN THAT.
I JUST GOT TO DO THE INTRO, SO I HAD THE EASY PART, BUT IT WAS NICE AND COOL TO SEE PEOPLE WALKING PAST, YOU KNOW, IN THE HALL AND YOU'RE TALKING PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE STATE OF TEXAS SAYING, HEY, GREAT PRESENTATION AND REQUESTING THE INFORMATION.
SO, YOU KNOW, PEOPLE LIKE TO SEE THAT.
ONE LAST THING. I MEAN, THERE IS THE LEGISLATIVE OFFICIALS THAT WE WE LEARN THIS YEAR, IT WAS A IT WAS A TOUGH LEGISLATIVE YEAR WITH LOTS GOING ON.
AND AS WE KNOW, NOT EVERYTHING EVEN FINISHED AT THIS MOMENT.
SO THE ONE THING THAT WE DID THAT WE WE PUT KIND OF PROGRESSIVE ON HERE WAS TO TRY TO GET FACE TO FACE MEETINGS WITH OUR LEGISLATIVE OFFICIALS.
IT'S NOT GOING TO BE AN EASY TASK, BUT WE'RE PUTTING THAT ON OURSELVES.
AND THAT DOESN'T MEAN JUST THE ADVOCACY BOARD.
IT MEANS EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US REACHING OUT AND TALKING.
SO I JUST WANT TO END WITH THAT BECAUSE I DO FEEL LIKE THAT'S VERY IMPORTANT.
AND WE ALL FEEL THAT WE'RE A BIG ENOUGH DISTRICT TO COMMAND SOME OF THEIR ATTENTION.
SO I JUST WANT TO END WITH THAT.
I WANT TO PIGGYBACK OFF OF THAT.
OKAY. YEAH, THAT'S A HUGE DEAL.
THAT'LL KEEP US ACCOUNTABLE TO CONTINUE TO KEEP THAT OPEN DIALOG WITH ALL OF THEM.
GREAT JOB, GUYS. YES, I AGREE.
AND THE ADVOCACY PART HAS ALWAYS BEEN A BIG DEAL FOR MANSFIELD ISD AS A WHOLE, KNOWING THAT SOMETIMES OUR NEIGHBORING DISTRICTS, ESPECIALLY THE REALLY SMALL ONES, DON'T NECESSARILY HAVE THE MANPOWER.
YES, THANKS FOR BRINGING THAT UP.
DID ANYONE ELSE HAVE ANYTHING REGARDING OUR ACCOUNTABILITY? OKAY, WAIT. MR. TIPPING HAS SOMETHING. YES.
WELL, WORKING ON THIS A LITTLE BIT.
SO I WENT AHEAD AND PUT THAT TOGETHER SINCE IT IS AUGUST, AND I JUST FIGURED I'D GET A LITTLE JUMPSTART ON THAT SO THAT MAYBE WE'RE NOT HAVING TO ALL REPORT ON THEM, YOU KNOW, AT ONE TIME AND SO FORTH.
IF THAT'S OKAY TO GO AHEAD AND DO THAT, GO FOR IT.
OKAY. AND I'D FIRST LIKE TO SAY OR GIVE A HUGE SHOUT OUT TO MS. SHAWNTEE COWAN BECAUSE SHE SHE DEFINITELY HELPED ME.
I PUT HER ON THE SPOT KIND OF LAST MINUTE AND SAID, HEY, WE HAD A MEETING THE OTHER DAY.
AND SHE DID THAT.[LAUGHTER] BUT SHE IS WAY SMARTER THAN US.
THAT IS TRUE. BUT I JUST WANT TO THANK HER FOR THAT.
BUT ANYWAYS, JUST A QUICK REPORT, A LITTLE BACKGROUND IN 21-22, IN THAT SCHOOL YEAR, THERE WAS AN INTERNAL TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE THAT WENT THROUGH A FEW THINGS.
IT WAS 29 STAFF MEMBERS, MISD STAFF MEMBERS THAT FORMED THAT COMMITTEE.
THEY MET EIGHT TIMES OVER THAT SCHOOL YEAR, AND THEY REVIEWED TEAS TEXAS LONG RANGE PLAN, WHICH THEN TO TRY TO OUTLINE THE GOALS THAT WERE NEEDED FOR MISD FOR OUR PLAN.
BUT THEY REVIEWED THIS PLAN AND AFTER AFTER THAT ONE YEAR TIME, THEY THE DRAFT PLAN WAS COMPLETED.
LET'S MOVE INTO LAST YEAR, 22-23.
AND THE ROLE OF THAT WAS TO SERVE IN AN ADVISORY ROLE TO THE DISTRICT TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE FEEDBACK REGARDING TECHNOLOGY NEEDS, PRIORITIZATION AND SOME STRATEGIC SOME STRATEGIC GOALS.
[00:25:04]
AND ANYWAY, SO THEY MET OVER THIS OVER THIS LAST YEAR WITH THOSE GOALS IN MIND.BUT WHAT I REALLY WANT TO MOVE INTO IS WHAT'S TO COME WITH IT.
SO IN THIS 23-24 SCHOOL YEAR AND NOW KEEP IN MIND THIS IS STILL IN PROGRESS.
BUT THE IDEA IS THAT THE UPDATED PLAN THAT'S BEEN HAPPENING OVER THESE LAST TWO YEARS WILL BE PRESENTED TO THE MISD INTERNAL COMMITTEE THAT WILL THEN BE REVIEWED BY THE SUPERINTENDENTS CABINET.
AND ONCE THAT'S APPROVED, IT WILL BE PRESENTED TO US.
SO WE SHOULD BE GETTING AT SOME POINT THIS YEAR A TECHNOLOGY PLAN FOR FOR OUR PERUSING AND OUR AGREEANCE UPON AND SO FORTH.
BUT ONE OF THE EXCITING PARTS OF THAT IS WHAT'S CALLED A CYBERSECURITY DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP CAMPAIGN.
AND NOW KEEP IN MIND, THIS IS STILL IN DRAFT.
SO DON'T YOU KNOW NOTHING'S SET IN STONE HERE.
BUT LET ME GIVE YOU KIND OF THE GOALS FIRST OF THIS.
CYBERSECURITY, DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP, DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP CAMPAIGN AND THE INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY GOAL OF THAT IS TO FORMULATE, IMPROVE AND EXPAND OUR EXISTING EDUCATIONAL PLAN TO INCLUDE DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP STANDARDS AND EXPECTATIONS FOR STUDENTS, STAFF AND PARENTS.
AND THEN THE CYBERSECURITY GOAL OF THAT IS TO ASSESS, SECURE AND PROTECT STUDENTS, STAFF AND ORGANIZATION INFORMATION AND ALSO TO ASSESS SECURE AND PROTECT STUDENT STAFF AND ORGANIZATION.
AND THAT WILL BE BROKEN OUT OVER KIND OF A SIX THE DIFFERENT SIX WEEKS AND SO FORTH.
I THINK WE ALL PROBABLY KNOW WHAT PHISHING IS BY NOW.
THERE WILL BE A NEW ENCRYPTION POLICY THAT WILL THAT WILL COME FROM THAT.
THERE WILL BE SOME CONDUCT TRAINING FOR CLOUD STORAGE, PROTECTED CLOUD STORAGE AND THINGS LIKE THAT.
BUT WHAT I REALLY LIKE IS SOME OF THE EDUCATIONAL PARTS THAT ARE GOING TO BE COMING ALONG WITH IT, BOTH TO STUDENTS, TO PARENTS, YOU KNOW, TO THE DISTRICT AS A WHOLE. THERE WILL BE SOME NEWSLETTERS THAT WILL COME OUT EVERY SIX WEEKS THAT ARE LIKE PARENT TECH TIPS OR STUDENT TECH TIPS.
THERE WILL BE AN ONLINE SAFETY PARENT AND STUDENT SESSION THAT'S AVAILABLE.
SO I THINK IT'S OFFERING OUR STUDENTS, OUR PARENTS, OUR TEACHERS A LOT MORE INFORMATION OF THE DANGERS THAT ARE OUT THERE WITH TECHNOLOGY AND GIVING THEM RESOURCES TO BE ABLE TO GO TO AND SAY, HEY, HOW CAN I PROTECT MY CHILD? HOW CAN I PROTECT MYSELF? AND WE'RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE A LOT OF THAT INFORMATION TO THESE STUDENTS AND SO FORTH.
I THINK THAT'S VERY IMPORTANT TO FIND WAYS TO PROTECT ALL OF OUR STUDENTS AND SO FORTH.
SO THAT'S JUST A LITTLE BREAKDOWN.
I MEAN, THERE'S MORE DETAILS OF THAT THAT WILL BE COMING.
BUT I'M EXCITED THAT WE HAVE THAT, ESPECIALLY SINCE, YOU KNOW, WE ALL HAVE THIS IN FRONT OF US.
I WAS THINKING OF A GOOD CHEER FOR HER.
AND ALL I CAN THINK OF IS SHE'S THE BOMB.COM.
YES, I STILL DO CHEERS FOR MY KIDS, TOO.
BUT THAT REALLY WAS THAT WAS A NICE THROW.
I DON'T THINK SHE'S DOWN HERE TONIGHT, BUT USUALLY SHE IS STUCK RIGHT HERE WITH US.
BUT THEY THEY SEEM TO ALWAYS FIX IT AND COME OUT ON TOP ON IT.
[00:30:02]
SO WITH THAT, UNLESS THERE'S ANYTHING ELSE REGARDING OUR SCORECARD.YOU KNOW, YOU GUYS JUST TALKED ABOUT HOW STUDENT OUTCOMES ARE YOUR FOCUS, RIGHT? I MEAN, THAT'S THAT'S OUR FOCUS.
I MEAN, OUR CORE BUSINESS IS TEACHING AND LEARNING.
AND SO IT'S SO IMPORTANT FOR US THAT WE PROTECT AND SUPPORT THAT CAMPUS LEARNING ENVIRONMENT.
AND SO I JUST WANTED TO TAKE SOME TIME JUST TO KIND OF TALK TO YOU GUYS AND WALK US ALL BACK THROUGH JUST SOME OF THE HISTORY, BECAUSE WE ACTUALLY HAVE A VERY RICH HISTORY OF SUPPORTING THE CAMPUS LEARNING ENVIRONMENT THROUGH DIFFERENT INITIATIVES AND ACTIONS WE'VE TAKEN RELATED TO SAFETY AS WELL AS THOSE DISCIPLINE STRUCTURES THAT SUPPORT THAT CAMPUS ENVIRONMENT AND THEN AS WELL AS THE THINGS THAT WE'VE DONE AND REALLY A LOT OF THINGS WE'VE DONE IN THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS TO SUPPORT THAT MENTAL AND SOCIAL WELL-BEING OF OUR KIDS.
RIGHT. SO THAT THEY CAN THEN LEARN.
SO I JUST REALLY KIND OF WANT THIS JUST TO BE LIKE A CONVERSATION.
I MEAN, I WILL, BUT REALLY JUST KIND OF WALK YOU THROUGH A LITTLE BIT OF LIKE THE HISTORY.
I WAS A BRAND NEW LITTLE BABY TEACHER, BUT THAT WAS THE SAME YEAR THAT THE DISTRICT ACTUALLY DEVELOPED AND LAUNCHED ONE OF THE FIRST DISTRICTS IN THE STATE OF TEXAS TO IMPLEMENT AND MAINTAIN THEIR OWN POLICE FORCE.
AND SO WE STILL ARE A RARITY, I REALLY THINK, WHEN IT COMES TO THAT.
YOU ALREADY HAVE YOUR OWN POLICE DEPARTMENT, RIGHT? YEAH, WE HAVE. WE'VE HAD IT SINCE 1993.
WE'RE VERY, VERY, VERY BLESSED.
SO IT REALLY STARTED, I MEAN, WAY BACK THEN AND SINCE THEN, IT HAS JUST BEEN AN ONGOING.
WHAT'S THE WORD I'M LOOKING FOR? WE'VE JUST REPEATEDLY PAID ATTENTION TO THE SAFETY AND SECURITY AND THE WELL-BEING OF OUR KIDS FROM COMMAND MOUS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE A CHAIN OF COMMAND WITH POLICE DEPARTMENTS AND SHERIFF'S OFFICES.
WE DID THAT BACK IN 1998, RIGHT.
WE WERE ONE HIGH SCHOOL. AND THEN WHEN WE OPENED SUMMIT, WE ADDED A CRISIS COUNSELOR THERE.
BUT WE HAVE CONTINUED TO DO THAT.
IT GOES ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE 90S, BUT AND WE JUST RECENTLY ADDED AN ADDITIONAL ONE, RIGHT? SO WE'VE COME UP WITH THE CRISIS COUNSELORS, KEYCARD ACCESS TO GET INTO BUILDINGS, CAMPUS PANIC BUTTONS.
BACK IN THE 12-13 SCHOOL YEAR, WE MAINTAINED CAMERA AND KEYLESS ACCESS POINTS IN 12-13.
IN 17-18 SOME OF YOU MIGHT HAVE MIGHT RECALL WHEN WE ADDED THE SECURE VESTIBULES, RIGHT.
AND THAT WAS IN WITH THE 2011 BOND FUNDS BACKGROUND CHECKS ON VISITORS WITH RAPTOR.
THAT WAS OUR EARLY 2000, OUR FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS, ALL OF THOSE TYPES OF THINGS.
[INAUDIBLE] WAS STILL HERE AS THE SUPERINTENDENT, WE HAD OUR FIRST EVER COMMUNITY SAFETY COMMITTEE IN 2017, AND WE HAD SOME REALLY MAJOR, I GUESS, ITEMS THAT CAME OUT OF THAT.
AND SOME OF THOSE WERE LOCKED FRONT DOORS AND EARPHONES, RIGHT.
SO VISITORS HAVE TO SHOW THEIR ID, RIGHT.
TO GET INTO BUILDINGS THAT THAT HAPPENED OUT OF THAT.
YOU KNOW, WHEN I WAS TEACHING HERE, THEY WERE LIKE, HEY, THIS YEAR LET'S LOCK OUR DOORS, RIGHT? AND THEN BUT IT BECAME IT WAS IT BECAME A NON-NEGOTIABLE.
WE HAD OUR OWN POLICE FORCE BACK IN 1993, BUT AN OUTCOME OF THE SAFETY COMMITTEE WAS TO PUT AN OFFICER ON EVERY CAMPUS AND AS A BOARD, THAT COMMITMENT WAS MADE AND AND SUPPORTED AND FUNDED.
AND SO WE'RE VERY, VERY APPRECIATIVE OF THAT.
SAFES AND PEPPER SPRAYS WENT INTO THE CLASSROOMS. I DON'T KNOW IF YOU ALL RECALL THAT THAT WAS ANOTHER OUTCOME OF THAT COMMITTEE AND A HUGE ANTI-BULLYING CAMPAIGN CAME OUT OF THAT.
[00:35:02]
REPORT, HOW TO REPORT, AND OUR PARENTS DID, TOO.AND WE'VE CONTINUED TO REFINE THAT OVER AND OVER THROUGHOUT THE YEARS.
UM, WE HAD A STANDARD RESPONSE PROTOCOL CRISIS GO CAME OUT, STOP, STOP THE BLEED TRAINING.
ALL OF THESE THINGS HAPPENED PRIOR TO 2020.
SO KIND OF A LONG, A LONG LIST OF THINGS OVER THAT 25 YEAR PERIOD.
IT'S ACTUALLY OVER 20 DIFFERENT THINGS THAT WE'VE DONE.
WE DID AS A DISTRICT TO AGAIN, BE MINDFUL AND PAY ATTENTION TO THOSE THREE AREAS.
I DON'T KNOW, AGAIN, I CAN JUST KEEP GOING.
BUT ANY QUESTIONS, ANYTHING YOU GUYS WANT TO TALK ABOUT RELATED TO THE HISTORY OF KIND OF WHERE WE WERE? I WAS JUST GOING TO COMMENT THAT WE'VE ALWAYS BEEN KIND OF AHEAD OF THE GAME ON THAT.
EVEN WE'VE PUT THINGS IN PLACE AND THE NEXT THING YOU KNOW, WE'VE GOT A MANDATE THAT COMES DOWN.
SO IT'S NICE THAT WE'VE ALWAYS BEEN KIND OF A STEP AHEAD IN THE SAFETY DEPARTMENT.
YOU KNOW, WE ALREADY DO THESE THINGS.
AND I THINK IT GIVES SOME REASSURANCE.
I KNOW IT DOES TO ME, EVEN AS A PARENT REASSURANCE THAT, HEY, WE DO HAVE ALL THESE THINGS IN PLACE FOR SAFETY AND SECURITY, AND WE'RE CONTINUING TO TO THINK AHEAD AND GET OUT AHEAD OF THESE THINGS.
YOU KNOW, WE WILL CONTINUE TO TAKE THIS SERIOUS AND PUSH FORWARD.
DR. CANTU, I WANT TO SAY TO ECHO WHAT CRAIG SAID, SO WE APPRECIATE YOUR WORK, YOUR AND YOUR STAFF'S WORK TO DO THIS, BECAUSE AS YOU SAID, WHEN THE ENVIRONMENT IS SAFE, THEN THE TEACHING AND LEARNING IS MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE.
THEY'RE CONFIDENT. THEY FEEL SAFE IN THEIR ENVIRONMENT.
AND SO WITH THE ANTI-BULLYING CAMPAIGN, YOU SAID WE'RE STILL REFINING THAT.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO SPEAK TO THAT JUST A LITTLE BIT? AS MUCH AS WE CAN SO THAT PEOPLE WILL KNOW WE ARE STILL WORKING ON THIS.
IT'S NOT JUST A CAMPAIGN TO SAY STOP BULLYING.
SURE. YOU KNOW, JUST OVER THE YEARS, WE'VE CONTINUED TO REFINE THE WEBSITE.
WE'VE REVISITED OUR PROCESSES.
IF YOU GO NOW TO OUR ANTI-BULLYING WEBSITE AND THIS I THINK IT REALLY STARTED GETTING BEEFED UP AND MR. WILLIAMS HELPED ME HERE AROUND 2020, REALLY GETTING THOSE DOCUMENTS ONLINE.
THERE'S A TIMELINE OF THE BULLYING PROCESS.
HERE'S THE DEFINITION OF BULLYING.
SO WE JUST CONTINUE TO ADD TO AND BEEF UP AND BE MORE TRANSPARENT WITH WHAT THIS LOOKS LIKE.
MR. WILLIAMS, I SEE YOU LOOKING AT ME.
YES, MA'AM. AND YOU REALLY KIND OF HIT ON ALL THE DIFFERENT ASPECTS IN THE WAY THAT WE DO IT, NOT JUST FROM AN ONLINE STANDPOINT, BUT IT GOES BEYOND THAT TO A DEEPER LEVEL OF THE AWARENESS. AND I THINK ONE OF THE THINGS THAT YOU'RE GOING TO BRING UP A LITTLE BIT LATER IS THIS IS OUR HOUSE.
YES. IT'S A PART OF THAT WHOLE THIS IS OUR HOUSE AWARENESS CAMPAIGN.
IT WAS A ONE STOP SHOP THAT REALLY WAS DR.
CANTU'S KIND OF BRAINCHILD AS IT RELATES TO HAVING ALL OF THOSE DIFFERENT ELEMENTS IN ONE PLACE IN WHICH WE PUSHED IT OUT AS A WHOLE IN ONE LOCATION FOR FAMILIES TO BE ABLE TO LOOK AT THAT. AND IT'S ALL CONNECTED.
IT'S NOT JUST ONE ASPECT OF ONE THING THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT.
THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT WAYS IN WHICH WE'RE LOOKING AT CREATING THAT AWARENESS FOR OUR FAMILIES AT THE CAMPUS WITH OUR FACULTY AND STAFF AND BEYOND THAT, ACTUALLY PUSHING IT OUT TO THEM FROM A DIGITAL STANDPOINT AS WELL.
YEAH. SO THANK YOU FOR EXPLAINING THAT BECAUSE USUALLY WE JUST IT'S A CAMPAIGN.
NO, BUT NOW WE KNOW WE HAVE THIS IS OUR HOUSE AND THEN THE EASE IN ACTUALLY NAVIGATING EACH STEP SO PARENTS KNOW IF THERE IS A CONCERN YOU HAVE A PLACE TO GO.
THERE ARE FORMS THAT CAN BE COMPLETED.
OF COURSE, WE'D LIKE FOR PEOPLE TO START ON THE CAMPUSES FIRST TO HANDLE THOSE CONCERNS THERE.
BUT THANK YOU FOR IDENTIFYING THAT.
ABSOLUTELY. I JUST WANTED TO, YOU KNOW, FINALIZE IT BY SAYING I CONCUR WITH MR. TIPPING. TODAY WE WERE AT A LUNCHEON TED CRUZ WAS AT AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WAS ASKED FOR OPENED UP TO A LOT OF QUESTIONS WAS SAFETY AND SECURITY.
[00:40:09]
AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE SPOKE TO IN OUR PARTICULAR TABLE WAS WE HAD SUPERINTENDENTS THERE FROM AROUND THE AREA HERE WAS THAT WE WERE LEADING THE FOREFRONT ON THAT SAFETY AND SECURITY.SO, AGAIN, I COMMEND YOU AND YOUR TEAM AND I APPRECIATE IT.
AND I'M GLAD THAT WE CONTINUE TO BE, WHAT I SAY, THE NAVIGATOR.
THANK YOU. WELL, IF YOU ALL THINK IT SOUNDS GOOD NOW, SHE'S NOT DONE.
OKAY. THAT WAS JUST THAT WAS JUST THE INTRO.
THAT'S JUST THE INTRO. BUT THANK YOU.
YEAH, THAT'S JUST THE. THAT'S THE HISTORY.
Y'ALL KNOW, I STARTED MY SUPERINTENDENCY ON JANUARY 1ST OF 2020.
AND WHAT I'M GOING TO TALK ABOUT NOW IS KIND OF FROM THAT POINT FORWARD AND I AM SO BLESSED TO WORK WITH THIS CABINET UP HERE AND WITH YOU GUYS AS A BOARD, BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE IN THE LAST THREE AND A HALF YEARS, IT'S ALMOST FOUR YEARS NOW.
IT'LL BE I'LL BE STARTING YEAR FIVE ON JANUARY 1ST, WE'VE DONE A TON OF WORK TO SUPPORT OUR EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT FOR KIDS, REALLY THINKING ABOUT THOSE THREE THINGS, AGAIN, THOSE DISCIPLINE STRUCTURES, SAFETY AND THEN THAT SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORTS FOR OUR KIDS.
BUT SO IN THE SPRING OF 2020, YOU GUYS PROBABLY KNOW WE HAD A GRANT.
WE WERE GRANT FUNDED TO PLACE SECURITY FILM ON CAMPUS WINDOWS RIGHT ACROSS THE DISTRICT.
THAT SAME YEAR ALTHOUGH THE WORK BEGAN IN 2019 WHEN I WAS THE DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT IN 2021, WE REALLY HAD THAT FIRST ITERATION OF OUR SEL CURRICULUM TO REALLY FOCUS ON THOSE SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS, TO REALLY TAKE CARE OF THAT, THAT PART FOR THEM.
RIGHT. AND HE WAS SO EXCEPTIONAL THAT HE'S GONE ON TO THE NATIONAL LEVEL.
AND WE HAVE CONTINUED TO JUST FIND REALLY QUALITY PEOPLE.
THAT'S THE SOFTWARE THAT MONITORS STUDENTS ACTIVITY ON DISTRICT DEVICES AND PLATFORMS, BECAUSE IF WE CAN CATCH THAT EARLY, THEN WE CAN WE CAN INTERVENE, RIGHT? AND WE CAN TAKE CARE OF THINGS THAT NEED TO BE TAKEN CARE OF AND WE CAN GET SUPPORT AND HELP FOR KIDS THAT NEED IT.
SO THAT KIND OF REALLY IS A SUPPORT PIECE FOR OUR KIDS AND ALSO A PART OF SAFETY.
WE ADDED A THREAT ASSESSMENT COORDINATOR KATE SHAW WAS HIRED BACK IN THE FALL OF 21.
SHE HAS SINCE ALSO LEFT US TO GO ON TO A BIGGER AND BETTER JOB BECAUSE SHE DID A VERY GOOD JOB AT HER JOB AND WE HAVE FILLED THAT POSITION WITH ANOTHER SUPER QUALITY PERSON. BUT SHE ESTABLISHED THAT FOR US, RIGHT? AND WE HAVE BEEN A LEADER AND HAVE PRESENTED AT THE AT THE STATE LEVEL ON OUR PROCESS BECAUSE SO MANY PEOPLE WANT TO KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON HERE IN MANSFIELD ISD.
SO THAT THREAT ASSESSMENT PROCESS HAS BEEN HAS BEEN SUPER SUCCESSFUL.
ALSO IN THE FALL OF 2021, REALLY TO SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS AND OUR OUR EMPLOYEES AND OUR FAMILY WE STARTED WITH PARTNERED WITH CHRYSALIS, AND THAT IS WHERE ANYONE CAN GO ON AND CLICK ON A LINK AND SAY, ANSWER A SERIES OF QUESTIONS.
IT'S GOING TO MATCH WHAT'S GOING ON WITH YOU? IS IT SUICIDE DRUGS? WHAT WHAT'S GOING ON WITH YOU? AND THEN WHAT IS YOUR FINANCIAL ABILITY AND WHERE DO YOU LIVE? AND IT'S GOING TO MATCH THAT UP WITH PROVIDERS THAT CAN PROVIDE YOU ASSISTANCE.
AND I THINK THAT'S SUPER INCREDIBLE BECAUSE WE'RE A VERY DIVERSE DISTRICT WITH PEOPLE WITH ON ALL SPECTRUMS OF ABILITY TO PAY AND ALL OF THOSE SORTS OF THINGS AND SO MANY NEEDS. AND IT TAKES ALL THAT AND PAIRS IT UP AND ALLOWS THEM TO FIND THOSE CONNECTIONS FOR SERVICES.
UM, IN THE SPRING OF 21 WE DID FACILITY GRIDDING AND MAPPING.
SO ALL OF OUR FACILITIES, WE GRIDDED AND MAPPED THEM TO ALLOW FOR COORDINATED RESPONSE AND CLEAR COMMUNICATION WITH POLICE DEPARTMENTS, SHERIFF'S, FIRE, RESCUE, ALL OF THAT AND THE MAPS ARE ON THEIR PLATFORMS. SO IT'S VERY, VERY CLEAR WHEN YOU COME INTO ONE OF OUR BUILDINGS WHERE YOU NEED TO BE, WHERE THINGS ARE AND HOW TO GET THERE QUICKLY.
UM, IN THE SPRING OF 2021, STILL NOW WITH AND THIS, THIS CAME OUT OF SENATE BILL 11 BUT WE HAVE OUR DISTRICT WIDE RIGHTS SCHOOL SAFETY AND SECURITY COMMITTEE AND WE'VE CONTINUED TO DO THAT AND SOME OF YOU GUYS HAVE SERVED ON THAT.
AND SO THAT SERVES A GREAT PURPOSE AND WE'VE CONTINUED TO TO DO THAT.
[00:45:03]
IN 2021, YOU SUPPORTED US HIRING AN EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST AND WE WERE ABLE TO GET MATT VAN CLEAVE ON HERE.HOW ARE WE WHAT DO WE NEED TO BE WORKING ON? AGAIN, TRYING TO BE VERY PROACTIVE TO GET IT IN FRONT OF THE GAME INSTEAD OF WAITING FOR SOMETHING TO HAPPEN.
SO THAT THAT HAS BEEN REALLY, REALLY GOOD.
ALSO, IN 21-22, WE STARTED CAMPUS SAFETY AUDITS WITH WITH MATT VAN CLEAVE.
AND ALTHOUGH THAT WAS DONE BY STATE LAW, IT WAS NOT AN EASY TASK.
BUT THE TEAM SITTING HERE AT THIS TABLE AND EVERYONE IN THE COUNSELING DEPARTMENT DID A GREAT JOB OF REDISTRIBUTING THINGS SO THAT OUR COUNCILORS COULD FOCUS MORE ON COUNSELING AND GET RID OF THOSE, GET RID OF THOSE PIECES.
SO THERE WAS A LOT OF WORK INVOLVED TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN.
IN 2021 WE HAD OUR FIRST TOWN HALL RIGHT FOLLOWING THE INCIDENT THAT WE HAD AT TIMBERVIEW.
AND WHAT THAT TOWN HALL ALLOWED US TO DO WAS TO REALLY LISTEN TO OUR COMMUNITY.
AND YOU GUYS AS A BOARD OF SITTING DOWN AND LISTENING TO OUR COMMUNITY.
AND SO WE GOT A LOT OF REALLY GOOD INFORMATION FROM THAT.
WE BROUGHT IN THE TEXAS SCHOOL SAFETY CENTER.
AND IT ALLOWED US TO MAKE SOME REALLY INCREDIBLE ADJUSTMENTS RIGHT TO OUR WORK.
AGAIN, THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING THING SINCE 1993, BUT AS A CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT, THAT'S WHAT WE CONTINUE TO DO, RIGHT? HOW CAN WE GET BETTER EVERY DAY? I ALSO MADE THE DECISION AT THAT POINT TO RECONVENE THE SAFETY COMMITTEE.
WE HAD ONE IN THE FALL OF 2017.
I THOUGHT, OKAY, YOU KNOW WHAT? IT'S THE FALL OF 21. IT'S TIME, RIGHT? WE NEED TO REVISIT. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE THAT WE NEED TO BE DOING THAT WE SHOULD BE DOING? BECAUSE TIMES HAVE CHANGED.
SO WE WE RECONVENED THAT AND THERE WERE SOME OUTCOMES OUT OF THAT.
ONE OF THOSE CANINE AND METAL DETECTORS, METAL DETECTOR WAND INSPECTIONS BEGAN.
RIGHT. AND SO WE WE CONTINUED WITH THAT.
AND NOW WE HAVE SOMETHING COMING OUT THIS YEAR THAT WE WANT.
I'LL TALK ABOUT THAT AGAIN IN A MINUTE, BUT.
THROUGH ALL OF THIS, RIGHT? WE STILL HAVE TO STAY FOCUSED ON THE WELL-BEING OF OUR KIDS.
AND COMING OUT OF COVID YOU KNOW, Y'ALL Y'ALL KNOW SUICIDE RATES WERE UP.
ADULTS WERE IN CRISIS, FRANKLY.
RIGHT. AND SO THE SUICIDE PREVENTION STUDENT GROUPS AND PROGRAM, JENNIFER POWERS AND HER TEAM AND I KNOW THEY'RE ON HER TEAM.
I MEAN THERE'S THERE'S PEOPLE AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL, RIGHT? THEY WORK RIGHT HERE IN MANSFIELD ISD.
BUT WE HAD HOPE SQUAD AND IT REALLY IS IT'S A STUDENT GROUP WHERE STUDENTS THAT KIDDOS IDENTIFY THAT, HEY, THESE ARE KIDS THAT CAN TALK TO ALL KINDS OF KIDS, RIGHT? NOT JUST A SPECIFIC GROUP OF KIDS, BUT THEY IDENTIFY THOSE KIDS ON CAMPUS THAT ALL KIDS WILL TALK TO, RIGHT.
THEY'RE JUST THOSE THOSE KIDS AND THOSE KIDS ARE TRAINED TO LISTEN FOR THINGS.
AND THEN HOW TO REPORT TO AN ADULT.
AND THEN THAT CHILD KNOWS HOW TO GO REPORT.
AND IT HAS BEEN AN EXTREMELY SUCCESSFUL PROGRAM.
AND AGAIN, WE'RE SPEAKING AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL ABOUT OUR SUCCESS WITH HOPE SQUAD.
UM, WE ADDED MY EOP, THAT'S OUR APP THAT WE SWITCHED TO.
EVERYTHING YOU DO IN A CRISIS, RIGHT? YOU CLICK ON IT. AND DAVID, IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WOULD WANT TO ADD ABOUT THE MY EOP? IT'S BEEN REALLY, REALLY IT'S KIND OF LIKE THAT ONE STOP SHOP WE HAVE WITH THE THIS IS OUR HOUSE.
IT'S ONE STOP SHOP FOR OUR EMERGENCY OPERATIONS, RIGHT? YES. IT WAS JUST SOMETHING THAT WE COULD GET INTO THE HANDS OF ALL OF OUR TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS.
IN ADDITION TO THAT, WE COULD ADD TO IT.
SO IF WE NEEDED TO ADD A SAFETY PROTOCOL, IF WE NEEDED TO ADD ONE OF THE THINGS WE ADDED AFTER THE FACT WAS WHAT AT WHAT TEMPERATURES IS IT SAFE TO GO OUT? AND SO WE PUT OUR PROTOCOL TEMPERATURE FOR BAND AND ATHLETICS IN THERE SO WE DIDN'T HAVE TO
[00:50:06]
CONTINUALLY TALK TO BAND DIRECTORS AND FOOTBALL COACHES THAT WAS IN THERE, MY EOP.AND THEY KNEW AT WHAT TEMPERATURE, HUMIDITY, THAT BULB DEAL THAT WAS JUST THAT WAS AT THEIR FINGERTIPS AT ANY POINT IN TIME.
SO THERE WAS A PLETHORA OF THINGS THAT ARE IN THERE AND WE COULD ADD TO IT.
IT'S ALL RIGHT THERE IN ONE STOP SHOP AND THAT HAS BEEN SUPER SUCCESSFUL.
UM, WE ALSO INCREASED OUR OFFICER COVERAGE AND AT OUR SECONDARY CAMPUSES IN RESPONSE TO TIMBERVIEW.
AND I WILL TELL YOU THAT OUR CHIEF OF POLICE IS SITTING RIGHT OUT HERE AND HE HAS DONE AN INCREDIBLE JOB OF PARTNERING WITH OTHER POLICE DEPARTMENTS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE COVERAGE EVERY SINGLE DAY THAT WE HAVE BEEFED UP POLICE OFFICERS, POLICE OFFICER PRESENCE ON CAMPUS.
AND I JUST WANT TO THANK YOU RIGHT NOW, CHIEF, REALLY FOR THE ATTENTION THAT YOU PAY TO MAKING SURE, BECAUSE IT'S A PUZZLE AND YOU WORK IT EVERY SINGLE DAY AND YOU'RE ALWAYS TRYING TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE OFFICERS WHERE WE NEED OFFICERS AND WE HAVE MORE THAN ENOUGH OFFICERS.
I CAN GO ON. BUT THAT KIND OF CLOSES OUT THE 21-22 YEAR.
ANY QUESTIONS YOU GUYS WANT TO TALK TO ME ABOUT BEFORE WE GO ON TO 22-23 AND WHAT'S COMING FOR 23-24? ANYBODY DOWN HERE? I DON'T HAVE ANY I DON'T HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, BUT I THINK IT'S.
DR. CANTU YOU WERE ASKING MR. RIGHT TO TALK ABOUT THE EOP, MY EOP TO MENTION THAT WE ARE INCLUDING THE TEMPERATURE AND THE HUMIDITY.
THE LEVEL OF THE HUMIDITY IS SIGNIFICANT BECAUSE WE'RE HAVING STUDENTS WHO ARE NOT WE MISD.
AND SO THAT MEANS IN ALL THAT YOU HAVE DISCUSSED AND THIS IS JUST 21-22 THAT WE'RE CARING, THAT IS CARING FOR THE WHOLE STUDENT. AND SO THAT'S PARAMOUNT TO ALL OF US SITTING HERE, BECAUSE IF THE STUDENT IS NOT WELL, MENTALLY OR PHYSICALLY, IT'S DIFFICULT FOR THE STUDENT TO LEARN.
SO I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR THAT.
BUT NOW YOU'RE GOING INTO 21-22 OR 22-23, 22-23 LAST YEAR.
THANK YOU. IS ANYBODY ON THIS SIDE OF THE TABLE HAVE ANYTHING SO FAR? OKAY. OKAY. SO PRIOR TO THE 22-23 SCHOOL YEAR, WE SPENT A LOT OF TIME THAT SUMMER AND REALLY THAT THAT SPRING OF THE YEAR BEFORE AND THAT SUMMER TALKING JUST ABOUT A LOT OF THE INCREASED BEHAVIORS THAT WE WERE SEEING IN OUR STUDENTS.
AND THEY WERE YOU KNOW, THEY WERE DEFINITELY THERE.
AND SO WE DID SEVERAL THINGS TO RESPOND TO THAT.
AND WHAT THEY WHAT THE PURPOSE OF THOSE SPECIALISTS WAS, WAS TO CONSULT AND ASSIST OUR TEACHERS WITH HOW TO WORK WITH THESE NEGATIVE BEHAVIORS THAT THEY WERE SEEING.
RIGHT. YOU KNOW, YOU GO TO SCHOOL TO BE A TEACHER AND YOU LEARN ABOUT DISCIPLINE, BUT, YOU KNOW, YOU NEED SOME EXTRA HELP AND ASSISTANCE WHEN YOU'RE DEALING WITH WITH SOME OF THE BEHAVIORS THAT WE WERE SEEING.
AND SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR GIVING US THOSE BEHAVIOR SPECIALISTS TO WORK WITH OUR STAFF TO HELP THEM WORK THROUGH HOW TO FOCUS ON OUR KIDDOS THAT OBVIOUSLY ARE IN CRISIS AND NEED SOME HELP.
ADDITIONALLY, WE WERE ABLE TO ADD SOME CAMPUS SECURITY SPECIALISTS.
THEY MONITOR CAMPUS EXITS AND HALLWAYS AND ENSURE SAFETY ON OUR CAMPUSES.
WE HAD ONE FTE FOR EACH HIGH SCHOOL CAMPUS AND AT BEN BARBER AND WE'RE GOING TO BE ADDING AN FTE TO EACH SITE TO ASSIST WITH OUR EVOLVE IMPLEMENTATION FOR THE 23-24 SCHOOL YEAR.
SHOULD YOU GUYS APPROVE FOR US TO MOVE FORWARD WITH EVOLVE.
BUT IT REALLY IS THAT PERSON IN THE HALLWAYS TO HELP.
[00:55:02]
IT'S JUST THAT EXTRA PERSON, THAT EXTRA SET OF EYES TO MAKE SURE THAT DOORS ARE CLOSED AND KIDS ARE IN CLASS AND YOU'RE SWEEPING THE HALLWAYS AND ALL OF THOSE THINGS SO THAT KIDS ARE WHERE THEY NEED TO BE.ANOTHER THING WE TALKED ABOUT THAT THAT SPRING AND THAT SUMMER BEFORE THIS PAST SCHOOL YEAR WAS WE WERE HEARING THAT WE WERE HAVING MAYBE SOME INCONSISTENCIES ACROSS THE BOARD WITH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF DISCIPLINE.
AND SO IT BECAME REALLY IMPORTANT FOR US TO SIT DOWN AND SAY, YES, WE HAVE THE STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT AND YES, WE HAVE THE STUDENT HANDBOOK, BUT DO WE HAVE A REALLY CLEAR AND DEEP UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT THE EXPECTATIONS ARE FOR ADMINISTRATORS ACROSS THE DISTRICT? AND DO ADMINISTRATORS KNOW WHAT WE EXPECT OF THEM AS WELL WHEN IT COMES TO THERE'S THIS BEHAVIOR AND THIS IS THE CONSEQUENCE.
RIGHT. AND WE JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT THERE WAS CLARITY.
AND SO WE INVOLVED THE ADMIN, WE INVOLVED OUR ADMINISTRATORS IN COMING TOGETHER AROUND THE TABLE AT A HIGH LEVEL TO SAY WHEN TARDIES HAPPEN, WHAT HAPPENS WHEN FIGHTING HAPPENS, WHAT HAPPENS? AND WE WANTED IT TO BE CONSISTENT ACROSS LEVEL.
AND THEN WE WANTED THERE TO BE VERTICAL ALIGNMENT.
RIGHT? AS YOU MOVE UP, THINGS CONTINUE TO TO RAMP UP, RIGHT? SO WE WANTED THAT CONTINUUM GOING VERTICALLY.
AND THEN WE ALSO WANTED HORIZONTALLY FOR THERE TO BE CLEAR, CONSISTENT EXPECTATIONS TO DELIVER TO STUDENTS ABOUT HOW THEY'RE GOING TO BEHAVE AND WHAT ARE THE CONSEQUENCES FOR WHEN THINGS DON'T HAPPEN.
AND DAVID WRIGHT AND HIS TEAM, ALONG WITH THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS AND OUR CAMPUS ADMINISTRATION, DID A REALLY GREAT JOB OF PULLING THAT TOGETHER AND SORT OF CREATING A LIST OF EXPECTATIONS AND SORT OF A GO TO OF WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THEN THIS HAPPENS.
AND WE WERE ABLE TO REVISIT SEVERAL THINGS THAT MAYBE WE DIDN'T NECESSARILY HAVE A SET OF WRITTEN DOWN OR MAYBE EVEN A BETTER WAY TO SAY IT WOULD BE UNDERSTOOD WAYS OF HOW WE ADDRESS CERTAIN THINGS.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN STUDENTS INTERACT WITH AN ADULT ON CAMPUS IN A NEGATIVE WAY, RIGHT? WHAT DOES THAT LOOK LIKE? AND YOU WOULD THINK THAT IT WOULD BE REALLY SIMPLE.
BUT IN A TIME WHERE WE WERE SEEING SOME BEHAVIORS RAMP UP AND WE'RE NEEDING WE'RE BRINGING IN INTERVENTIONISTS TO HELP OUR OUR TEACHERS FIGURE OUT HOW TO HANDLE THIS, WE NEEDED TO ADDRESS THAT FROM A BEHAVIOR STANDPOINT, TOO.
SO IF YOU NEGATIVELY NEGATIVELY ENGAGE WITH AN ADULT, WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN IN THAT CAPACITY? WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO WITH FIGHTING? WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU FIGHT IN A RESTROOM? IS THAT DIFFERENT? RIGHT. SO WE HAD TO LOOK AT ALL OF THESE THINGS AND WE SPENT THE SUMMER AND WE CAME UP WITH OUR DISCIPLINE MATRIX THAT WE HAVE IMPLEMENTED AND WE ARE CONTINUING TO UPDATE THAT AND MOVE FORWARD WITH THAT.
WE'LL BE MAKING SOME ADJUSTMENTS WITH THAT JUST RELATED TO THE NEW THE NEW LAW RELATED TO VAPING, RIGHT? SO THERE'S GOING TO BE SOME ADJUSTMENTS THAT WILL BE MADE TO OUR MATRIX JUST BASED ON THE NEW HOUSE BILL THAT CAME OUT.
SO WE CONTINUE TO MAKE TO MAKE UPDATES ON THAT AND TO WORK THAT MATRIX AS WELL.
AND SO WE REALLY, REALLY APPRECIATE THAT FOR SAFETY REASONS, WE ADDED STOREROOM FUNCTIONS TO LOCKS.
THIS, YOU KNOW, WE HAD SOME DOORS AND JEFF JUMP IN IF I SAY SOMETHING WRONG.
BUT WE HAD SOME DOORS IN OUR CAMPUS THAT YOU HAD TO GO TURN THE KEY TO MAKE IT LOCK.
RIGHT? MR. BROGDON SAID, YOU KNOW WHAT, WE CAN FIX THAT.
WE CAN DO WHAT'S CALLED A STOREROOM FUNCTION AND WE CAN GO REPLACE THE LOCKS THAT DON'T HAVE THE STOREROOM FUNCTION AND THEY'RE GOING TO LOCK AUTOMATICALLY, RIGHT? YOU'RE NAILING, NAILING IT.
THANK YOU. ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO ADD TO THE STOREROOM FUNCTION? BUT THAT WAS AN ADDITIONAL SAFETY AND IT JUST SORT OF TAKES THE THOUGHT OUT OF IT.
YOU DON'T HAVE TO THINK ABOUT IT ANYMORE, RIGHT? THAT'S ONE LESS THING YOU HAVE TO THINK ABOUT.
THAT DOOR IS GOING TO LOCK FOR YOU AUTOMATICALLY.
WE STARTED DOOR AUDITS, INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR.
WE WERE ALREADY AUDITING THROUGH THROUGH OUR SAFETY DEPARTMENT.
AND SO EVERY EVERY CABINET MEMBER AND SOME MEMBERS OF EXECUTIVE COUNCIL COMMITTED TO DOING AUDITS EVERY MONTH OF OUR CAMPUSES, IN ADDITION TO ALL THE AUDITS THAT WERE ALREADY REQUIRED. THAT WAS REALLY, REALLY IMPORTANT FOR US BECAUSE IT ENABLED US TO MAYBE THERE'S A DOOR, AN EXTERIOR DOOR THAT OVERNIGHT GOT STICKY AND STUCK AND DIDN'T CLOSE ALL THE WAY.
WELL, WE WERE ABLE TO FIND THAT THAT VERY NEXT DAY, RIGHT? BECAUSE WE HAD SO MANY PEOPLE OUT AND ABOUT DOING THESE AUDITS.
AND SO WE ADDED THOSE LAST YEAR.
[01:00:07]
OF STUDENT SERVICES STARTED MEETING REGULARLY WITH CAMPUS ADMINISTRATION TO REVIEW DATA AND TO ENSURE THAT OUR DISCIPLINE MATRIX WAS BEING IMPLEMENTED CONSISTENTLY ACROSS GRADE LEVELS. RIGHT. SO WHAT MONITORS GETS DONE? AND SO HE STARTED MEETING WITH THEM TO MAKE SURE THAT, YOU KNOW, WE WERE FOLLOWING THAT WITH FIDELITY.AND IF THERE WERE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT HOW WE COULD WORK OUT SOME OF THOSE NUANCES.
IT WAS REALLY ESTABLISHED TO KIND OF STOP THAT RECIDIVISM, RECIDIVISM, RIGHT.
WE DON'T WANT KIDS TO GO BACK.
SO WE IMPLEMENTED CHOICES AND WE HAVE HAD SUCCESS WITH THAT.
WE ADDED P25 RADIO BOOSTER UPGRADES.
AND SO WE DID AN UPGRADE THERE TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERYTHING WAS COMPATIBLE FOR SAFETY PURPOSES.
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT, SAFETY ASSESSMENT OF VENUES.
THIS YEAR WE ALSO DECIDED, YOU KNOW WHAT, WE NEED TO LOOK AT OUR STADIUMS, OUR CENTER FOR PERFORMING ARTS, OUR VARSITY GYMS, AND WE BROUGHT IN AND CONTRACTED WITH SOMEONE TO COME IN AND SAY, HOW CAN WE MITIGATE RISK AND IMPROVE A PLAN? RIGHT? HOW CAN WE MITIGATE AND CAUSE, YOU KNOW, PREVENT SOMETHING FROM HAPPENING? AND SHOULD SOMETHING HAPPEN, HOW CAN WE RESPOND TO THAT DURING A CRISIS? SO LET'S TAKE A HARD LOOK AT THESE VENUES, RIGHT, AND SEE IF THERE'S ANYTHING EXTRA THAT WE NEED TO BE DOING THAT WE'RE NOT ALREADY DOING.
UM, I HAVE A FEW MORE I CAN I'VE GOT LIKE ABOUT FIVE MORE THINGS AND THEN WE CAN I'LL KEEP GOING.
HOW ABOUT THAT? ALL RIGHT. BECAUSE WE'RE ALMOST THERE.
WE'RE BRINGING THIS THING HOME.
IN 22-23, WE STARTED ATTENDANCE TRIBUNALS.
UM, THERE WAS BACKED UP AND OVERLOADED DOCKETS.
RIGHT. FOR STUDENTS TO GO TO TRUANCY COURT IN TARRANT COUNTY.
AND WE FIRST STARTED THAT IN THE SPRING OF 23.
AND THAT BRINGS TOGETHER THEY'RE HELD ON CAMPUS.
IT BRINGS TOGETHER A PARENT, THE STUDENT, A MEMBER FROM ADMINISTRATION, AN EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, AN ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL, RIGHT TO SIT DOWN AND SAY, WHY ARE WE NOT COMING TO SCHOOL? AND HOW CAN WE HOW CAN WE GET I MEAN, OBVIOUSLY, BEING PRESENT IS IMPORTANT.
IT'S IMPORTANT TO BE PRESENT SO THAT YOU CAN LEARN HOW CAN WE WORK TOGETHER TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN? AND SO WE STARTED THOSE AND THERE HAS BEEN A TON OF SUCCESS.
NOT ALL OF OUR POLICE VEHICLES WERE PURSUIT RATED VEHICLES, BUT WE ARE MOVING FORWARD WITH THAT.
IN 23-24, [INAUDIBLE] I HOPE I SAID THAT RIGHT, MR. WRIGHT. THIS IS COMING STARTING THIS NEXT SCHOOL YEAR AND WE'RE TRAINING RIGHT NOW OUR STAFF TO HAVE A WEARABLE PANIC BUTTON.
SO WITH YOUR ID CARD IS A WAY FOR THEM TO IMMEDIATELY ALERT BY PRESSING IT MULTIPLE TIMES.
AND SO WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT.
AND WE CAN OBVIOUSLY SHARE MORE MORE WITH YOU GUYS ABOUT THAT AT ANOTHER TIME.
PEOPLE WHO GO THROUGH I DON'T KNOW, MAJOR, IS IT THE AIRPORT, DISNEY SIX FLAGS, DISNEY SIX FLAGS.
YES. YOU JUST [INAUDIBLE] I MEAN, MULTIPLE PEOPLE CAN WALK THROUGH IT ONCE.
AND SO WE ARE REALLY, REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT COMING TO US IN THE FALL OF 23.
SO ALL THAT TO SAY IN THE LAST THREE AND A HALF YEARS, WE HAVE BEEN PAYING AS A AS AN ADMIN TEAM AND YOU GUYS AS A BOARD, I BELIEVE A TON OF ATTENTION TO MAKING SURE THAT WE'RE PROTECTING THAT LEARNING ENVIRONMENT ON THAT CAMPUS.
AND SO I JUST WANT I WANTED TO HAVE THIS CONVERSATION JUST TO SAY IT'S IMPORTANT TO US.
WE'RE PAYING ATTENTION AND LOOK FORWARD TO ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS THAT YOU GUYS MIGHT HAVE.
WE'LL START DOWN HERE THIS TIME.
DID YOU HAVE ANYTHING? NO, JUST THANK YOU FOR ALL THE INFORMATION.
THANK YOU. WE REALLY APPRECIATE IT.
YOU'RE WELCOME. MISS ANDERSON, I WAS GOING TO SAY, I JUST APPRECIATE YOU GOING OVER THE TIMELINE.
[01:05:05]
REALIZE. AND SO, AGAIN, I COMMEND YOU AND YOUR STAFF ON ALL OF THAT.HOW ABOUT THIS SIDE? MRS. NEWSOM.
AND I THINK WHAT A WHAT A GREAT STORY, RIGHT? IT'S A GREAT STORY OF MISD AND HOW THESE THINGS CAME ABOUT AND HOW THE TEAM PULLED TOGETHER AND WHAT THAT WHAT THAT LED TO.
YOU GUYS HAVE REALLY, REALLY PUT TOGETHER SOME INCREDIBLE THINGS HERE.
AND IT'S IMPRESSIVE ISN'T EVEN THE WORD FOR IT.
SO THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU DO EVERY DAY.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INNOVATION AND THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX AND ALWAYS PUTTING STUDENTS FIRST.
I DON'T HAVE A QUESTION. I DO WANT TO THANK YOU, DR.
CANTU, YOU AND YOUR TEAM HAVE DONE AN EXCEPTIONAL JOB BECAUSE NOT ONLY HAVE YOU WERE YOU'VE BEEN FORTHCOMING, YOU'VE BEEN AHEAD OF THE GAME AHEAD OF THE TIME THAT THE STATE HAS REQUIRED, BUT ALSO YOU'RE COLLECTING THE DATA THAT WOULD SUBSTANTIATE SUPPORT WHAT WE'RE DOING AND THEN YOU'RE PROVING THAT WHAT WE'RE DOING IS WORKING.
AND IF SOMETHING HAPPENS, IT'S NOT BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE CERTAIN MEASURES IN PLACE BECAUSE WE'RE STILL KEEPING THE ENTIRE THE WHOLE STUDENT AND ALL OF THE EDUCATORS, FIRST AND FOREMOST, TO ENSURE THAT THEY HAVE A SAFE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT.
THANK YOU. SO I APPRECIATE YOU AND YOUR TEAM FOR DOING SUCH A THING.
THANK YOU. MS. FARRAR. AND I'LL JUST REITERATE, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS TIMELINE.
IT REALLY DOES GIVE US EVEN US A PICTURE OF HOW LONG THE DISTRICT HAS TAKEN THIS SERIOUSLY.
AND I APPRECIATE THAT YOU GUYS ARE ALWAYS WILLING TO LOOK AT THE DATA, CONTINUALLY IMPROVE, MAKE ADJUSTMENTS WHEN NEEDED, REITERATE REITERATING OUR EXPECTATIONS IN THE PAST AND MOVING FORWARD.
SO JUST THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THE WORK THAT YOU PUT INTO THIS.
YOU HAVE DONE AN OUTSTANDING JOB.
SO IS THAT EVERYBODY? I JUST WOULD LIKE TO OF COURSE, WHAT EVERYONE HAS SAID, WE RECOGNIZE ALL THE HARD WORK THAT'S GONE ON FOR YEARS NOW.
AND I GUESS WE'RE LOOKING AT 30 YEARS SINCE 93.
THAT'S WEIRD BECAUSE I GRADUATED LIKE TEN YEARS AFTER THAT.
YEAH. AND SO, BUT WHAT I DID WANT TO POINT OUT TOO IS TO GIVE SOME ACCOLADES TO THE STAFF THAT'S SITTING HERE AND, AND YEAH, SOME OF FEW BOARD MEMBERS THAT ARE STILL LEFT FROM WHEN WE STARTED UP TILL NOW THAT IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT, A LOT OF THAT WAS DONE IN THE LAST 3 TO 5 YEARS.
I MEAN, WE HAD SOME BUILD UP, WHICH WE'RE SO FORTUNATE, LIKE YOU SAID, THAT WE THOUGHT AHEAD LIKE IN 2000, I THINK 12 OR WHENEVER, WHEN WE STARTED DOING SOME OF THESE THINGS LIKE THE VESTIBULES AND THINGS LIKE THAT.
AND I REMEMBER THAT WAS JUST A NO BRAINER FOR US AT THE TIME.
AND THAT IS A LOT BECAUSE IT'S NOT JUST HAVING THE IDEA, IT'S FIGURING OUT HOW TO MAKE IT HAPPEN, ACTUALLY GETTING IT TO HAPPEN, AND THEN EVERYBODY FOLLOWING THROUGH AND LIKING IT AND TAKING IT ON AS A TEAM.
DID ANYONE ELSE HAVE ANYTHING THAT YOU ALL WANTED TO MENTION REGARDING OUR SAFETY, SECURITY AND DISCIPLINE BASICALLY IS WHAT SHE REMINDED US OF AND INFORMED US OF. I THINK WE'RE GOOD.
OKAY. WELL, THEN WITH THAT, WE ONLY HAVE ONE THING ON THE AGENDA.
IT DOES SAY CONSENT AND I FEEL SILLY SAYING WE VOTED UP OR DOWN WITHOUT PULLING SOMETHING.
SO I'M GOING TO TREAT IT LIKE AN ACTION ITEM.
[7. Consent Agenda]
OF MANSFIELD FOR EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES.MAY I PLEASE RECEIVE A MOTION? SO MOVED. SECOND.
OKAY. A MOTION MADE BY MISS THOMAS AND A SECOND MADE BY MISS ANDERSON.
IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION ON THIS TOPIC OR QUESTIONS? OKAY. SEEING NONE.
ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF THE MOTION.
MAY I PLEASE SEE A SHOW OF HANDS? OKAY. THE MOTION PASSES SEVEN ZERO AND SEEING NOTHING ELSE IN OUR AGENDA.
I WILL CALL IT ADJOURNED AT 8:40.
