NOW, YOU ALL KNOW AND YOU'VE ALL HEARD US SAY THAT MANSFIELD ISD IS A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE, LEARN, AND TEACH.
THAT WAS VALIDATED OUTSIDE OF OUR OWN COMMUNITY THIS YEAR WHEN WE WERE NAMED THE 2022, FORBES BEST EMPLOYER IN STATE LIST, WE WERE ADDED TO THAT LIST AGAIN THIS YEAR.
WE'VE RECEIVED THIS RECOGNITION, THIS WILL BE OUR THIRD YEAR, 2019 AND 2021, WE RECEIVED THIS OUTSTANDING RECOGNITION FROM FORBES.
THIS YEAR WE RANKED 80TH IN THE STATE.
THIS RECOGNITION WAS CREATED THROUGH A SURVEY OF 70,000 US EMPLOYEES ACROSS 25 INDUSTRY SECTORS.
RECOMMENDATIONS ARE COLLECTED DIRECTLY FROM DISTRICT EMPLOYEES AS WELL AS WORKERS ACROSS THE EDUCATION INDUSTRY.
THE ANONYMOUS SURVEY CONSIDERED EVERY ASPECT OF AN EMPLOYEE'S EXPERIENCE SUCH AS WORKING CONDITIONS, SALARY, POTENTIAL FOR GROWTH, AND DIVERSITY OF THOUSANDS OF COMPANIES ELIGIBLE FOR THIS RECOGNITION, ONLY A SELECT FEW ARE AWARDED IN EACH STATE.
THIS AWARD GOES TO ALL OF THE EMPLOYEES IN MANSFIELD ISD WHO SHOW UP EVERY DAY WITH A HEART FOR SERVICE AND THE MISSION TO INSPIRE AND EDUCATE OUR STUDENTS TO BE PRODUCTIVE CITIZENS.
TONIGHT, DR. CANTU AND THE BOARD, WILL BE PART OF THAT PHOTO OP ON BEHALF OF OUR TEAM.
BUT LET'S GIVE A ROUND OF APPLAUSE TO THE ENTIRE MISD STAFF AND OUR LEADERSHIP.
[APPLAUSE] IT IS FOR OUR STAFF AND OUR LEADERSHIP WHO HELP MAKE MANSFIELD ISD A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE, LEARN, AND TEACH.
I'M GOING TO ASK THAT YOU CONTINUE TO STAY RIGHT THERE BECAUSE WE HAVE SEVERAL SPECIAL RECOGNITIONS THIS EVENING.
NOW WE'RE GOING TO TURN TO SOME OF OUR OUTSTANDING PARTNERS.
AS YOU KNOW, MANSFIELD ISD HAS HAD A LONGSTANDING PARTNERSHIP WITH TEXAS TRUST CREDIT UNION AND THIS PAST YEAR, THE TEXAS TRUST GIVES FOUNDATION WAS CREATED AND FOUNDED AS THE NEW GIVING ARM OF TEXAS TRUST CREDIT UNION WITH THE INTENT TO TOUCH HEARTS AND CHANGE LIVES BY SUPPORTING ORGANIZATIONS THAT IMPROVE THE WELL-BEING OF COMMUNITIES AND HELP BUILD BRIGHTER FINANCIAL FUTURES.
PART OF THEIR NEW SUPPORT WITH THE FOUNDATION INVOLVED GIVING MORE THAN $65,000 IN GRANTS, RANGING FROM 1,000-10,000 TO DISTRICTS ACROSS THE REGION, INCLUDING RIGHT HERE IN MANSFIELD ISD.
MANSFIELD ISD RECEIVED $10,000, THE HIGHEST POSSIBILITY OF THOSE GRANTS, THANK YOU TO THE TEXAS TRUST TEAM.
THOSE FUNDS WERE USED TO PURCHASE HUNDREDS OF NEW SHOES THAT WERE GIVEN AWAY TO OUR STUDENTS AT THIS YEAR'S BACK TO SCHOOL BASH.
TEXAS TRUST GIVES FOUNDATION NOT ONLY PROVIDED THAT FUNDING FOR US, BUT THEY ALSO CAME AND THEY HELPED SERVE AS A PART OF THAT EVENT.
HERE'S SOME OF THEIR STAFF HANDING OUT SHOES.
THAT FUNDING ALLOWED US TO GO FROM 1,000 PAIRS OF SHOES DISTRIBUTED BACK-TO-SCHOOL BASH LAST YEAR TO 1,500 PAIRS.
THEY HELPED US DOUBLE THAT NUMBER.
I'D LIKE TO INVITE JIM MINGE, THE CEO OF TEXAS TRUST CREDIT UNION AND WASHIMA HUQ, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE TEXAS TRUST GIVES FOUNDATION FORWARD TO SAY A FEW WORDS AND THEN PRESENT THAT BIG CEREMONIAL CHECK.
>> I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING ELSE TO SAY.
I JUST WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU SO MUCH TO YOU GUYS FOR THIS FANTASTIC PARTNERSHIP THAT WE'VE HAD FOR OVER A DOZEN YEARS.
WE GET UP EVERY MORNING AT OUR PLACE TRYING TO BUILD BRIGHTER FINANCIAL FUTURES, AND WE KNOW THAT THE BEST WAY TO DO THAT IS INVEST IN OUR COMMUNITIES, IN OUR MEMBERS, IN OUR SCHOOL DISTRICTS, IN THE GREAT STUDENTS AND THE GREAT TEACHERS,
[00:15:02]
AND WE'RE HONORED TO DO THAT.LAST YEAR AS WE SAID, WE STARTED THE TEXAS TRUST GIVES FOUNDATION.
WASHIMA IS OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND WASHIMA IS A PRODUCT OF THE MANSFIED ISD.
SHE IS ONE OF THE BRIGHTEST PEOPLE I'VE EVER MET AND I'D LIKE TO INTRODUCE HER.
>> THANK YOU. TYPICALLY, AFTER ELIZABETH AND JIM, THERE'S NOTHING LEFT TO STAY.
JIM EVEN COVERED THE WHOLE, I'M A K THROUGH 12 MISD PRODUCT PART.
ELIZABETH DEFINITELY HAD DONE RESEARCH ON THE FOUNDATION, I WAS BLOWN AWAY.
I DID NOT HELP HER WITH THAT DESCRIPTION, SO THANK YOU.
WE ARE REALLY HERE TO SHARE THAT IMPACT AND IT'S BEEN A PLEASURE BEING A PART OF THE FOUNDATION THIS YEAR.
WE BELIEVE IN GIVING BACK, WE GAVE BACK IN THE PAST THROUGH OUR SPIRIT DEBIT REWARDS PROGRAM, AND WE CONTINUE TO GIVE.
WE ALSO GAVE SCHOLARSHIPS AWAY THIS YEAR.
IT'S ABSOLUTELY A PLEASURE TO PARTNER WITH MANSFIELD ISD AND GIVE BACK TO MY VERY ROOTS, SO THANK YOU SO MUCH AND WE WOULD LOVE FOR YOU TO FOLLOW THE IMPACT.
I'M A BIG SOCIAL MEDIA PERSON, SO WE DO HAVE FACEBOOK.
PLEASE DO FOLLOW TEXAS TRUST GIVES FOUNDATION, AND YOU CAN SEE THE IMPACT WE'RE MAKING IN THE STUDENTS LIVES IN THE DISTRICT, SO THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE]
>> WE'RE GOING TO TAKE ONE PICTURE WITH THE ADULTS WITH THE BIG CHECK.
BUT THEN I'D LIKE INVITE OUR STUDENTS WHO ARE RECOGNIZED UP TO JOIN THEM IN A MOMENT.
STUDENTS, IF YOU'LL BE READY TO COME BACK UP FOR ANOTHER PICTURE.
BECAUSE WE KNOW THAT OUR STUDENTS ARE THE ONES WHO BENEFITED FROM THOSE SHOES, AND THEY WERE ABLE TO START THEIR SCHOOL YEAR OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT, PUN INTENDED.
THANKS FOLKS, I'LL BE HERE ALL NIGHT.
STUDENTS, IF YOU WANT TO JOIN THEM IN THAT PHOTO, SPORTS SUPERSTARS THAT'S YOU.
BEN BARBER STUDENTS ARE ON THEIR WAY.
BECAUSE AFTER ALL, OUR STUDENTS IS WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT.
FOR ANY MATH TEACHERS IN THE ROOM, I'M SORRY IF YOU WERE CHECKING MY MATH, WE DIDN'T DOUBLE THE NUMBER, BUT WE INCREASE THE NUMBER OF SHOES A LOT, AND I CLEARLY NEED TO SPEND MORE TIME WORKING WITH WASHIMA AND JIM ON MY MATH SKILLS.
THANK YOU TO TEXAS TRUST, [APPLAUSE] TEXAS TRUST KIDS FOUNDATION.
FOR OUR FINAL RECOGNITION OF THE EVENING, DON'T GO TOO FAR, THERE IS ONE MORE I'D LIKE TO INVITE ASSOCIATE SUPERINTENDENT OF COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING, DONALD WILLIAMS TO THE PODIUM.
>> PRESIDENT WILSON, DR. CANTU, AND MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.
WE TRADITIONALLY GAVE OUT OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP AWARD, AND WE'VE GIVEN AN OUT SOME TO SOME PRETTY OUTSTANDING ORGANIZATIONS, AND I'M HAPPY TO SAY THAT WE GET TO HONOR A ORGANIZATION OR GROUP THAT HAS BEEN MEANT SO MUCH TO SO MANY INDIVIDUALS.
THEY HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR ABOUT 25 YEARS, AND THEY HAVE SUCH A GIVING HEART.
THE ORGANIZATION, ONCE I MENTIONED THE NAME, IT'S JUST GOING TO GIVE IT AWAY BECAUSE EVERYONE'S GOT HOT AND THAT MAKES SENSE, AND I'M GOING TO GO AHEAD AND GET THAT OUT OF THE WAY.
COMMON GROUND THERE ARE KNOWN THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY.
THEY'RE AN ORGANIZATION THAT'S MADE UP OF SO MANY OF OUR FAITH GROUPS IN ORGANIZATIONS.
I REMEMBER WHEN I MET THEM FOR THE FIRST TIME IT WAS ABOUT WE DON'T WANT ANY RECOGNITION, IT'S NOT ABOUT US, IT'S ABOUT KIDS AND FAMILIES.
I JUST WANTED TO LIST A FEW OF THE THINGS THAT THEY HAVE DONE AS IT RELATES TO GIVING BACK TO OUR COMMUNITY.
THEY'VE DONE IT THROUGH FEED THE KIDS, AND THEY SAID, HOW CAN WE HELP? SO THEY'VE DONE IT THAT WAY.
THEY'VE DONE IT THROUGH GIVING OUT BACKPACKS, THROUGH OUR BACK-TO-SCHOOL BASH, AS IT RELATES TO J SAYING WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO FEEL THE NEED WHEREVER IT IS.
THEY'VE DONE IT THROUGH OUR NATIONAL PRAYER BREAKFASTS.
AS FAR AS WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO COVER OUR COMMUNITY IN PRAYER AS THEY LEAD, AND THEY DO GREAT THINGS FOR KIDS AND FAMILIES.
THE PAST THREE YEARS HAVE BEEN TOUGH, AND THEY'VE LISTENED AND THEY'VE WATCHED, AND THEY SAY, WHAT CAN WE DO AS WE MOVE INTO '22, '23 TO BE ABLE TO SUPPORT KIDS AND FAMILIES.
THEY HEARD THE FACT THAT, YOU KNOW, IT'S BEEN HARD IN THROUGH OUR STUDENT NUTRITION PROGRAM WHEN THEY DO AN ABSOLUTELY AMAZING JOB, MS. [INAUDIBLE] CAN YOU WAVE, GET A SHOUT OUT TO READ IT IN, THEY DO A FANTASTIC JOB, BUT IT WAS TOUGH FOR SOME OF OUR FAMILIES.
WE HAD SOME BALANCES THAT WERE THERE, AND THEY SAID, YOU KNOW WHAT WE'RE GOING TO DO IS WE'RE GOING TO LEAN IN AND WE'RE GOING TO CONTRIBUTE ROUGHLY AROUND $23,000 TO BE ABLE TO SUPPORT THAT AND TO CLEAR THAT NEGATIVE DEBT.
BUT SAY, WELL, WE'RE NOT FINISHED, WHAT ELSE CAN WE DO? THEY HEARD THROUGHOUT,
[00:20:02]
DURING COVID WAS THE FACT THAT FAMILIES WERE SAYING, HOW CAN WE LEAN IN AND ENGAGE AND SUPPORT THROUGH MENTOR-SHIP, THROUGH VOLUNTEERING AND ALL OF THOSE THINGS.THEY SAID, "YOU KNOW WHAT? WE WANT TO STEP UP WHEN WE WANT TO FUND AN ADDITIONAL POSITION, IT WON'T HIT THE LOCAL BUDGET." SO MR. YOUNG GUARD, SHE DIDN'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THAT.
IT WASN'T GOING TO HIT THE BUDGET THAT WAY.
THEY STEPPED UP AND THEY SAID THAT THEY WANTED TO BE ABLE TO SUPPORT THAT EFFORT AND DO THEIR THING.
I CAN REALLY STAND UP HERE AND GO ON AND ON ABOUT AN ORGANIZATION THAT HAD BEEN SO MUCH TO SO MANY INDIVIDUALS, BUT WE WANT TO RECOGNIZE THE FOLKS WHO HAVE JUST COME IN ALONGSIDE MANSFIELD ISD.
AGAIN, ONE OF THOSE ORGANIZATIONS ON AND ON TO SAY, HEY WE GOT YOU, WE'RE GOING TO SUPPORT YOU. THEY'RE ONE OF MANY.
BUT WE WANT TO REALLY PAY SPECIAL RECOGNITION FOR THEM TONIGHT, SO AS YOU GUYS COME FORWARD AND TO BE ABLE TO JOIN THE BOARD, GO AHEAD, COME ON YOU'RE IN THE RED SHIRTS AND THE GREEN SHIRTS, GO AHEAD COME FORWARD AND JOIN THE BOARD, AS FAR AS JOINING IN THEM OUT THERE.
WHILE THEY'RE JOINING, WE'RE IN THE KEY BUSINESS, SO MY FRIEND KNOWS JUST HOW COMPETITIVE THAT I AM, AND SO SHE SAID, HEY, THE KIDS WHO ARE RECOGNIZED WON'T THEY COME FORWARD.
ANY KID THAT'S IN THE ROOM STILL, THAT'S A PART OF MANSFIELD ISD [LAUGHTER] PRE-K TO 12TH GRADE, WE'RE GOING TO GET THIS PICTURE HOLD OFF.
GET THIS ONE [INAUDIBLE], GET THIS ONE, BIG SMILES.
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH, AND WE'LL LET YOU GET IT.
AT THIS TIME, EVERY YOUNG PERSON THAT'S A MEMBER OF MANSFIELD ISD EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT BEING A MEMBER OF MANSFIELD ISD [LAUGHTER] GO AHEAD AND COME ON UP AND BE A PART OF THE PHOTO.
SO THAT'S EVERYBODY, GO AHEAD AND COME ON UP, GO BACK UP.
A BIG ROUND OF APPLAUSE FOR THEM.
[APPLAUSE] I SAY THAT, AND I DO THAT BECAUSE I KNOW THE HEART OF THE INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE PART OF COMMON GROUND AND THEY WOULD ABSOLUTELY WANT TO MAKE IT ABOUT KIDS.
THEY WOULD ABSOLUTELY WANT TO MAKE IT ABOUT FAMILIES, AND THEY WOULD SAY, HEY, WHEN WILL WE JUST HAVE ALL THE FAMILIES COME AS WELL, BUT WE COULDN'T GET EVERYONE INTO THE PHOTO IF WE DID THAT, SO JUST BIG SMILES FOR EVERYBODY.
IT'S ABOUT KIDS AND FAMILIES, AND WHILE YOU'RE WAITING, [INAUDIBLE] GO AHEAD AND ROLL THE VIDEO, PLEASE, WHILE THEY'RE TAKING THOSE PHOTOS.
>> COMMON GROUND HAS BEEN SUCH AN INCREDIBLE PARTNER FOR ME, IT'S CALLED ISE OVER THE YEARS.
WE LOVE THEM SO MUCH BECAUSE THEY ARE SUCH A HUGE SUPPORT SYSTEM, AND EVERYTHING THEY DO TAKES CARE OF OUR KIDS AND TAKES CARE OF OUR FAMILIES.
THEY PROVIDE UNDERLYING SUPPORT THAT ENABLES OUR KIDS TO COME TO SCHOOL WITH FULL BELLIES AND HAPPY SMILING FACES AND READY TO LEARN.
>> COMMON GROUND THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO OUR MANSFIELD COMMUNITY HAVE MADE SUCH A GREAT IMPACT.
SOME OF OUR STUDENTS MAY NOT HAVE ACCESS TO FOOD OVER THE WEEKENDS, AND SO THEY PROVIDE THOSE WEEKEND BACKPACK MEALS.
THIS PARTNERSHIP IS SO VALUABLE TO THE MANSFIELD ISD COMMUNITY BECAUSE OUR STUDENTS ARE CONTINUALLY BENEFITING SO THAT THEY CAN DO THE IMPORTANT JOB THAT THEY NEED TO DO HERE AT SCHOOL, WHICH IS LEARNING.
>> COMMON GROUND NETWORK IS A CONGLOMERATION OF NON-PROFITS THAT COME TOGETHER IN THE CITY OF MANSFIELD.
IN ORDER TO MEET THE SOCIAL NEEDS OF THE PEOPLE, WE BELIEVE THAT THE MORE WE DO, THE STRONGER THE SCHOOL DISTRICT BECOMES, AND ALSO THE STRONGER THE CITY AND THE CITIES THAT ARE CONNECTED TO MISD, AND THAT IS IMPORTANT.
>> REALLY EXCITED THAT WE'RE ABLE TO START STEPPING OUT IN SOME PRETTY LARGE WAYS.
OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE SCHOOL DISTRICT, IT'S THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND WHAT EVERYTHING WE GAVE.
>> WE REALLY BELIEVE IN TARGETING WITH THE SCHOOL BECAUSE THE SCHOOL DISTRICT TOUCHES PRETTY MUCH ALL OF THE COMMUNITY.
TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS AND COUNSELORS, THEY KNOW THAT CHILDREN IN THE FAMILIES WITHIN THEIR SCHOOL THAT MIGHT BE GOING THROUGH A ROUGH PATCH OR THEY MIGHT NEED SOME ADDITIONAL HELP.
>> WHEN WE TALK ABOUT NEEDS, STUDENTS COME TO LUNCH EVERY DAY AND COME INTO THAT CAFETERIA, AND SOME STUDENTS JUST DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO COVER THOSE MEALS AND STUDENTS HAVE TO PAY FOR MEALS AGAIN NOW.
SO WHAT THEY'VE DONE MOST RECENTLY IS THEY DONATED $23,000 ACTUALLY, TO COVER THE COST OF THOSE MEALS AT THE DEBT THAT HAS BEEN APPROVED UNTIL WE'RE SO APPRECIATIVE OF THEM OF JUST SORT OF WRITING THAT NEGATIVE BALANCE FOR US AS A DISTRICT.
THEN MOST RECENTLY THEY'VE PARTNERED WITH US TO PROVIDE MENTORS, AND IT'S A MULTIYEAR PARTNERSHIP OVER TIME THAT HE'S BEEN CONTINUING TO BUILD UP A MENTOR PROGRAM, WHICH IS REALLY GOING TO HELP TAKE CARE OF THOSE SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL NEEDS OF OUR KIDS AGAIN, SO THAT WHEN THEY COME INTO THE CLASSROOM AND DEAL WITH INCOMPRESSIBLE TO BE ABLE TO STILL LEARN.
THANK YOU COMMON GROUND FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO FOR OUR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES, YOU ARE SO DESERVING OF THE COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP BOARD.
[00:25:03]
[APPLAUSE]>> AS DONALD SAID, WE DON'T DO THIS FOR THE RECOGNITION, BUT THANK YOU FOR RECOGNIZING THAT.
WE SAY WE ARE PROVIDING HOPE FOR A BETTER TOMORROW.
THAT IS THE WHOLE GOAL OF WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO HERE, IS TO SERVE THE FAMILIES AND THE STUDENTS OF MANSFIELD ISD.
EVERYTHING THAT WE DO IS WITH THAT IN MIND.
IT TAKES EVERYBODY TO DO THAT.
IT TAKES THE GENEROSITY OF MANY OF THOSE IN THE COMMUNITY, ALL OF THOSE I GET SERVE ON THE BOARD WITH AND THE MEMBERSHIP.
THE FAITH-BASED ORGANIZATIONS THAT GET TO DO THIS, AND IT'S AN HONOR FOR US TO GET TO PARTNER WITH MISD IN ALL THAT WE DO.
>> THAT CONCLUDES OUR RECOGNITIONS FOR THIS EVENING. THANK YOU.
>> NOW IS A GREAT TIME IF YOU NEED TO DISMISS AND HEAD HOME FOR HOMEWORK AND BEDTIME, SHOWERS AND ALL OF THAT.
NO WAIT A MINUTE WE HAVE A BREAKAWAY.
[LAUGHTER] I WAS GOING TO SAY, SHE CAN STAY.
>> YOU'RE WELCOME. I WILL SAY THE BOARD HAS ALWAYS MADE IT A MASCOT.
[7. District Introductions ]
YOU ALL HEAR ME OKAY? ITEM 7, OUR DISTRICT INTRODUCTIONS, DR. CANTU?>> YES. AT THIS TIME, I'D LIKE TO TURN IT OVER TO DR.
STOKER TO DO OUR INTRODUCTION FOR THE EVENING.
>> WELL, THAT IS CERTAINLY A TOUGH ACT TO FOLLOW, BUT WE ARE GOING TO DO OUR VERY BEST.
BOARD MEMBERS, THIS EVENING, IT'S MY HONOR TO INTRODUCE TO YOU ONE ADMINISTRATIVE NEW HIRE, SO COME ON UP TO THE MICROPHONE, PLEASE.
SHE IS OUR NEW COORDINATOR OF SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT.
SHE'S COMING TO US FROM DESOTO ISD, WHERE SHE HAS SERVED AS THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF CORE CURRICULUM, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, AND GRANTS. WELCOME.
>> THANK YOU. GOOD EVENING, BOARD PRESIDENT, DR. CANTU AND MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.
I AM HONORED TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE AND SUPPORT THE STUDENTS OF MANSFIELD ISD THIS SCHOOL YEAR.
I HAVE BROUGHT WITH ME MY AMAZING SUPPORT SYSTEM, MY HUSBAND, LEE SCHWARTZ TATE.
MY MOM, WHO IS FROM OUT OF STATE, THAT SURPRISED ME TONIGHT AND SHOWED UP.
MY SISTER AND NEPHEWS WHO HAVE JUST JOINED MANSFIELD ISD, AND MY GOOD FRIEND [INAUDIBLE] BROWN.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE OPPORTUNITY.
[8. Presentation ]
>> AS WE MOVE ON TO ITEM 8.1: A VISION OF GIVING IN MANSFIELD, DR. CANTU?
>> YES. AT THIS TIME, I WOULD LIKE TO ASK FLO TORRES AND [INAUDIBLE] TO COME FORWARD AND I THINK THEY HAVE SOME FRIENDS WITH THEM AS WELL.
WE ARE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THIS NEW VISION OF GIVING IN MANSFIELD ISD CENTERED AROUND THE HOLIDAYS, I WILL TURN IT OVER TO YOU ALL.
>> GOOD EVENING, PRESIDENT LACKEY WILSON.
THEN HELLO, DR. CANTU, BOARD AND MEMBERS OF MANSFIELD ISD.
WE ARE VERY EXCITED, AS YOU PROBABLY KNOW, TOYS FOR TOTS IS A SIGNATURE THING THAT MANSFIELD ISD DOES.
IT STARTED 10 YEARS AGO AND IT IS UNLIKE TOYS FOR TOTS ALMOST ANYWHERE IN THE COUNTRY.
MOST OF THE TIME IF YOU GO TO A TOYS FOR TOTS EVENT,
[00:30:03]
IT IS A BOX FOR COLLECTIONS, WHICH IS GREAT BECAUSE KIDS GET TOYS.BUT HERE IT IS A HEART AND SOUL EVENT THAT INVOLVES OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS, IT INVOLVES OUR STUDENTS, THAT EVERYONE COMES OUT TO CELEBRATE THE TRUE JOY OF GIVING AND BEING TOGETHER.
AS WE START VISION 2030, AND AS WE START A NEW 10 YEARS HERE WITH THE TOYS FOR TOTS.
IN FACT, WE HAVE SOME MARINES HERE TONIGHT FROM TOYS FOR TOTS, THAT WILL BE ABLE TO SPEAK TO YOU IN A MOMENT.
WE'VE RE-IMAGINED HOW WE'RE GOING TO MOVE FORWARD AND MAKE THINGS EVEN BETTER.
BEFORE WE GO ON TO WHAT'S NEW, WE JUST WANT TO TAKE A BRIEF MOMENT AND CELEBRATE WHERE WE'VE ALREADY BEEN AS A DISTRICT AND A COMMUNITY WITH A BRIEF VIDEO.
>> GOOD EVENING. MY NAME IS SIR MAJOR JASON CANTU AND I AM THE SITE SERGEANT MAJOR FOR MARINE AIRCRAFT GROUP 41 STATION ABOARD THE NAVAL AIR STATION ON JRB, FORT WORTH.
TO MY LEFT IS [INAUDIBLE] HE IS OUR UNIT'S TOYS FOR TOTS COORDINATOR FOR FORT WORTH.
AS MANY OF YOU MAY KNOW THAT TOYS FOR TOTS FOUNDATION IS CELEBRATING ITS 75TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY THIS YEAR SO WE'RE VERY EXCITED THIS YEAR TO PARTNERSHIP WITH YOU GUYS.
THE TOYS FOR TOTS FOUNDATION OVER THE YEARS IS RESPONSIBLE FOR WRITING HUNDREDS OF THOUSAND OF TOYS FOR LESS THAN FORTUNATE CHILDREN THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES AND ITS OUTLYING TERRITORIES.
FOR THE PAST 10 YEARS, MANSFIELD ISD HAS SUPPORTED THIS PROGRAM PROVIDING OVER 275,000 TOYS FOR CHILDREN IN A DFW AREA.
THESE NOTEWORTHY ACHIEVEMENTS SHOULD BE RECOGNIZED BECAUSE WHAT THAT SAYS ABOUT YOUR COMMUNITY, IT'S JUST A SMALL EXAMPLE OF WHAT YOUR COMMUNITY CAN DO WHEN PEOPLE GET TOGETHER AND GIVE.
AS A RESULT OF THIS, I HAVE AN ANNOUNCEMENT TO MAKE TONIGHT.
IN THE PAST YEARS, WHAT HAS HAPPENED? MANSFIELD HAS COLLECTED UP TOYS AND THESE TOYS GET DISTRIBUTED THROUGHOUT THE DFW AREA.
THEY DON'T NECESSARILY COME BACK TO DFW, SOME OF THEM DO.
BUT THIS YEAR, THE TOYS FOR TOTS FOUNDATION IS OPENING UP A NEW CHAPTER RIGHT HERE IN MANSFIELD.
WHAT THAT MEANS TO YOU IS, THE TOYS THAT ARE COLLECTED HERE WILL STAY HERE AND BE DISTRIBUTED TO FAMILIES OUT HERE IN THE COMMUNITY.
[APPLAUSE] YOUR VERY OWN FLO TORRES IS GOING TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS AREA, FOR THE TOYS FOR TOTS PROGRAM.
[APPLAUSE] ON BEHALF OF MY BOSS, CARL MATTHEW BROWN, WHO COULDN'T MAKE IT OUT HERE THIS EVENING, I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT OVER THE YEARS.
WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO WORKING WITH YOU THIS YEAR AND IN THE UPCOMING YEARS.
>> I AM SUPER EXCITED FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO CONTINUE THE LABOR OF LOVE, THE TOYS FOR TOTS FOR OUR COMMUNITY.
I WANT TO LET YOU KNOW, AND I KEPT THIS A SECRET, AND I HAVEN'T TOLD JEFF BROOKLYN, MY LOVELY BOSS, [LAUGHTER] THAT WHEN I WENT TO WASHINGTON FOR A TRAINING FOR FOUR DAYS, WE KNOW THAT MISD LOVES TO BE THE FIRST ONE, AND DR. CANTU KNOWS THIS BECAUSE I JUST TOLD HER.
WE ARE THE FIRST DISTRICT IN THE UNITED STATES THAT HAS
[00:35:02]
A COORDINATOR THAT WORKS FOR THE DISTRICT AND WILL BENEFIT THE CITY AND THE DISTRICT WITH THE TOYS COLLECTED.I AM THRILLED [APPLAUSE] AND BECAUSE OF THAT, WHEN I WAS IN THE TRAINING, I TOLD THEM THAT I WAS GOING TO HAVE DR. CANTU CREATE A VIDEO [LAUGHTER] TO HELP THEM TO CONQUER OTHER DISTRICTS TO JOIN IN THE EFFORTS TO GET THE TOYS CLOSER.
THE DISTRICTS, WE DON'T OWN THE CHILDREN, BUT WE EDUCATE YOUR CHILDREN, SO OF COURSE, WE ALSO WANTED TO PROVIDE THEM TOYS, AND IT'S GOING TO BE A GREAT CAMPAIGN.
WE'RE PARTNERING, BUT I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT WITH THIS NEW OPPORTUNITY, WE HAVE TAKEN IN CONSIDERATION VISION 2030 BECAUSE IVERSON IS VERY WELL-SPOKEN, SHE'S GOING TO TELL YOU WHAT WE'RE GOING TO DO.
>> I WILL DO MY BEST TO BE VERY WELL-SPOKEN.
THAT'S GREAT. THAT IS THE BIG NEWS.
YOU HAVE THE BIG NEWS, WHICH IS THAT THE TOYS GET TO STAY RIGHT HERE WITH OUR COMMUNITY, WHICH IS EXCELLENT.
BUT IT'S THE PERFECT MOMENT TO TALK ABOUT HOW WE TAKE THAT INTO ACCOUNT WITH VISION 2030.
WHAT'S GREAT IS VISION 2030, OUR 10-YEAR STRATEGIC PLAN IS ALL ABOUT GROWING THE HUMAN BEYOND THE CLASSROOM.
IT'S IMPORTANT THAT YOU KNOW YOUR ACADEMICS, IT'S IMPORTANT THAT YOU'RE INVOLVED, BUT IT'S ALSO IMPORTANT THAT WHEN YOU WALK ACROSS THE STAGE AT GRADUATION, YOU'RE READY TO BE A PART OF A COMMUNITY, THAT YOU'RE READY TO ENGAGE.
WE FEEL LIKE THIS IS THE PERFECT OPPORTUNITY TO SHOW OUR STUDENTS HOW THEY CAN ENGAGE SO THAT WHEN THEY LEAVE WITH US, IT'S NATURAL.
IT'S PART OF WHO THEY ARE BECAUSE THEY'VE DONE IT ALL THEIR CAREER.
WE'RE GOING TO TAKE THIS MOMENT AND REALLY BECOME INTENTIONAL AND SCAFFOLD IN WINDOWS OF OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR STUDENTS SO THAT WE CULTIVATE AN ART OF GIVING WITHIN BOTH OUR STUDENTS AND OUR COMMUNITY.
THIS IS A THING WE'RE STARTING THIS YEAR, IT'S GOING TO GROW, BUT I'M GOING TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT A COUPLE OF EXAMPLES THAT WE'RE STARTING THIS YEAR, AND THEN ANYONE WHO HAS IDEAS, WHO HAS A PROGRAM, WHO GOES, OH, I KNOW WHAT MY STUDENTS COULD DO, THIS FITS RIGHT IN, WE'RE LOOKING TO GROW, BUT I'LL TELL YOU ABOUT A COUPLE.
WE'RE CALLING THAT INITIATIVE GROWING GIVERS, AND THAT IDEA IS THAT WE'RE GOING TO CULTIVATE LIFELONG CITIZENSHIP IN OUR STUDENTS THROUGH ENGAGEMENT, THROUGH GIVING THEM AUTHENTIC VOICE, AUTHENTIC PURPOSE, AND SAYING YOU MATTER, WHAT YOU THINK MATTERS, AND WE'RE GOING TO SHOW YOU WHAT WE'RE DOING WITH YOUR THOUGHTS IN TERMS OF COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND BENEFITING EVERYONE.
HERE'S SOME THINGS THAT WE'RE GOING TO DO WITH GROWING GIVERS THIS YEAR.
OVER AT BEN BARBER, WE HAVE OUR TIES PROGRAM; TRANSITIONING THROUGH INDEPENDENCE AND EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS.
THEY'RE PART OF THE SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT AND PART OF THEIR CURRICULUM IS HAVING REAL-WORLD JOB SERVICE TRAINING.
THAT'S GREAT BECAUSE IT ACTUALLY FITS RIGHT INTO A LOT OF WHAT WE'RE GOING TO BE DOING WITH THE COMMUNITY AS WE COLLECT THESE TOYS.
WE'RE LOOKING WITH THEIR EDUCATORS AT HOW THOSE TWO THINGS OVERLAP AND PLANNING CURRICULUM SO THEY CAN HAVE REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE THERE.
THIS IS ANOTHER REALLY BIG INITIATIVE IS IF YOU DON'T KNOW MOUSER I THINK IT'S $5,000 THEY ARE GIVING OUR STEM ACADEMIES AND THEY'VE ASKED THEM TO COME UP WITH SOME ENGAGING WAY TO ENGINEER THE HOLIDAYS, WHICH IS PERFECT BECAUSE [LAUGHTER] TOYS FOR TOTS IS RIGHT AT THE HOLIDAYS.
SOME OF THE IDEAS THAT ARE STARTING, WE'RE GOING TO ASK OUR STUDENTS TO BE CONSULTANTS.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT A FIVE-YEAR-OLD BOY WOULD WANT, NO IDEA, NONE AT ALL.
BUT WHAT'S GREAT IS WE HAVE STUDENTS WHO KNOW WHAT THEY WOULD WANT, AND SO WE'RE GOING TO ASK OUR YOUNGEST STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN A PROJECT-BASED LEARNING COMMUNITY WITH THEIR TEACHERS AND THEY'RE GOING TO HAVE PROJECTS WHERE THEY BASICALLY GATHER THE DATA AND WE MAKE A SHOPPING LIST FOR OUR COMMUNITY FROM OUR STUDENT VOICES THAT SAY, THIS IS WHAT OUR KIDS SAY THEY WOULD BE INTERESTED IN.
FROM THERE, THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL AND THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL, THEY'RE GOING TO TAKE THAT AND LOOK AT THAT DATA AND THINK ABOUT FULFILLMENT.
THEY'RE GOING TO GO, OKAY, SO IT TURNS OUT WE MAY NEED 300 SOCCER BALLS.
WHO IN THE COMMUNITY COULD DO THAT THAT WE PARTNER WITH? WHAT WOULD WE NEED TO TELL THEM? WHEN WOULD WE NEED TO TELL THEM THAT? WOULD THEY BE INTERESTED IN THAT? DOES THAT SERVE THEIR COMMUNITY? SO THAT WE CAN START HAVING THEM THINK BEYOND WHAT THEY DO IN THE CLASSROOM, WHICH IS GREAT, AND START REALLY CONNECTING THE DOTS OF HOW DOES EVERYONE BENEFIT FROM THESE SITUATIONS? THOSE ARE A COUPLE OF THINGS, BUT WE'RE LOOKING TO DO A LOT OF DIFFERENT THINGS.
BUT ENGINEERING THE HOLIDAYS, IT'S GOING TO BE EXCITING AND IT'S GOING TO BE PART OF HOW WE GET THESE TOYS TO LIVING ROOMS. HERE'S THE BIG PICTURE.
ESSENTIALLY THE CONCEPT FOR GROWING GIVERS IS WHEN WE GET THEM IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, WE START PLANTING THAT SEED.
WE'RE SHOWING THEM THAT WE'RE GATHERING THE TOYS,
[00:40:01]
WE'RE GETTING THEM EXCITED ABOUT IT.ONCE WE GET THEM TO THE INTERMEDIATE LEVEL, WE'RE STARTING TO ASK THEIR OPINIONS, WE'RE STARTING TO MAKE SURE THEY KNOW WHERE ALL OF THAT INFORMATION IS GOING AND THAT IT'S BEING VALUED.
BY THE TIME WE GET TO MIDDLE SCHOOL, WE WANT TO SEE THEM START TO TAKE OWNERSHIP.
WE WANT TO SEE THEM HELPING OUT IN POCKETS WITH OUR SPONSORS, MAYBE COMING TO THE WAREHOUSE AND REALLY DECIDING HOW THOSE DATA POINTS COULD BE USED TO BENEFIT EVERYONE.
BY THE TIME WE GET TO HIGH SCHOOL, WE'D LIKE TO SEE THEM PARTNERING WITH GROUPS THAT WE PARTNER WITH ALL THE TIME; COMMON GROUND, TEXAS HEALTH, THERE ARE GROUPS THAT HAVE ALWAYS BEEN INVOLVED IN TOYS FOR TOTS THAT ALWAYS COME OUT FOR THE EVENT THAT COME TO US AND SAY WHAT COULD WE DO AT THE EVENT? WE WANT OUR STUDENTS TO BE PART OF THAT BECAUSE THEY HAVE GREAT IDEAS THAT WE MAY NOT HAVE, AND THEN IT SETS THEM UP THAT WHEN THEY LEAVE THE CLASSROOM, THEY KNOW EXACTLY HOW TO GIVE BACK BECAUSE THEY'VE DONE IT.
NOT ONLY HAVE THEY DONE IT, THEY'VE DONE IT WITH PEOPLE THAT THEY CAN GO OUT IN OUR VERY CITY AND DO IT AGAIN AND BUILD THEIR OWN IDEAS.
THE CONCEPT IS AT EVERY AGE, AT EVERY STAGE, OUR STUDENTS HAVE THAT OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE BACK AND GROW.
IT HAS ONE LITTLE TREE, BUT WE IMAGINE IT AS A FOREST OF GROWTH.
WE'LL GROW A BUNCH OF THEM ALL TOGETHER, WHICH ALL BENEFITS MANSFIELD.
THIS PART I'M GOING TO GO THROUGH A LITTLE MORE QUICKLY.
YOU ACTUALLY HAVE A CARD IN FRONT OF YOU HERE AND IF YOU DON'T OUT HERE AND YOU WANT ONE, THEY'LL BE AVAILABLE AS YOU LEAVE.
BUT WE ALSO NEED PLACES FOR THESE TOYS.
WE KNOW TRADITIONALLY WE COLLECT 25,000, 30,000 TOYS A YEAR, WE WANT THOSE TO GO TO HOMES HERE, AND THAT MEANS WE NEED TO KNOW WHERE THOSE HOMES, WHERE THOSE NEEDS ARE.
WE'RE WORKING WITH OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS, WE'RE WORKING WITH COMMON GROUND, WE'RE TRYING TO HAVE AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE WHO KNOW THE NEEDS, TELL US THE NEEDS SO THAT WE CAN FULFILL THAT NEED.
HOW CAN YOU HELP? THAT WAS REAL FAST, BUT HOW CAN YOU HELP? THIS IS ESSENTIALLY THE VARIOUS WAYS WE'RE ASKING PEOPLE TO PARTICIPATE.
YOU HAVE THIS IN FRONT OF YOU, SO I'M NOT GOING TO GO THROUGH IT.
BUT I DO WANT TO TALK BRIEFLY ABOUT THE OUTREACH ORGANIZATIONS BECAUSE THAT IS A PROCESS THAT THERE'S A COMMITTEE FOR ACTUALLY LED BY JEFF BROGDEN RIGHT HERE.
IF YOU ARE SOMEONE WHO GOES, YEAH, I HAVE A POPULATION, I AM A CHURCH, I AM COMMON GROUND, I WOULD LOVE TO HELP PEOPLE GET THOSE TOYS, YOU APPLY ONLINE, IT GOES THROUGH A COMMITTEE, AND THEN THAT COMMITTEE IS THE ONE THAT SAYS THESE FOLKS ARE WHO ARE GOING TO SEND THEIR SHOPPING LISTS, AND THAT'S HOW THOSE TOYS WILL ACTUALLY GET TO THE HOMES.
WE OF COURSE WANT LOCAL BUSINESSES INVOLVED.
THE CITY, IN FACT, THERESA COHAGEN IS HERE FROM THE CITY OF MANSFIELD.
THEY'RE WORKING WITH US TO HAVE ALL SORTS OF WAYS TO GET OUR LOCAL BUSINESSES EXCITED.
THEY PARTICIPATE IN A PARADE AND HAVE SOME CONTESTS WITHIN THEIR DEPARTMENTS.
THEN WE HAVE OUR CITIZENS AND OUR STUDENTS AND EMPLOYEES AS WELL THAT WILL BE DOING VARIOUS THINGS LIKE FOLLOWING US AND PARTICIPATING IN THE EVENTS AND HAVING THEIR OWN CAMPUS CONTESTS.
WE'RE RIGHT AT THE END HERE, BUT THIS IS REALLY WHAT'S SO GREAT, IT'S THE POINT; IS THAT WE KNOW WE'RE STRONGER TOGETHER.
WE'RE ALL LOOKING FOR THESE POCKETS OF BEING STRONGER AND THIS IS A PERFECT MOMENT WHERE JUST THE STARS HAVE ALIGNED.
THE TOYS GET TO STAY, THE STUDENTS GET TO HAVE THEIR SAY, AND WE ALL GET TO BECOME STRONGER BECAUSE THE COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS ARE GOING TO BE FORTIFIED.
WE'RE ALSO GOING TO BE SUPPORTING LOCAL BUSINESSES.
TOYS FOR TOTS HAS THE ABILITY TO BUY TOYS IF THERE'S A POCKET WHERE WE DON'T HAVE TOYS FOR, FLOWS COMMITTED TO TRYING TO GET THOSE FROM LOCAL BUSINESSES.
SHE COULD HAVE PURCHASED THEM AT A LARGE CONVENTION, BUT SHE SAID NO, I'M GOING TO COME BACK TO MANSFIELD AND SPEND THAT MONEY HERE.
WE'RE GOING TO HAVE ALL OF OUR FAMILIES' NEEDS MET AS BEST WE CAN, SO PLEASE COMMUNICATE THOSE NEEDS.
AS A TEACHER, THIS IS THE ONE THAT MAKES MY HEART GO PITTY-PAT IS THOSE STUDENTS REALLY GET TO GROW.
THEY REALLY GOT TO GET INVOLVED.
I'M NOT GOING TO CRY. BUT IT'S SO EXCITING.
WE'RE REALLY PASSIONATE, WE'RE REALLY EXCITED.
WE'RE EXCITED BECAUSE THIS YEAR WE GET TO HAVE FOUR DAYS OF HOLIDAY FUN HERE AT THE CENTER.
THERE ARE FIREWORKS, [LAUGHTER] VERY SERIOUS FIREWORKS, BEAUTIFUL SERIOUS FIREWORKS ON THURSDAY, AND THEN A BEAUTIFUL SERIOUS DRONE SHOW ON FRIDAY.
BUT LET ME GO BACK TO THE POINT. THE POINT IS WE ALWAYS USED TO DO TOYS FOR TOTS ON WEDNESDAY, WE'RE STILL DOING THAT.
BUT THIS YEAR WE HAVE THE GREAT BENEFIT OF FOUR FULL DAYS OF HOLIDAY FUN.
THE CITY IS BRINGING HOMETOWN HOLIDAYS HERE WITH US, SO WE'RE GOING TO GET TO SHOWCASE OUR STUDENTS FOR MORE THAN ONE NIGHT.
INSTEAD, THEY GET TO BE INVOLVED FOR FOUR DIFFERENT NIGHTS OF PERFORMANCES AND THEY ARE THE MAIN EVENT ON SATURDAY.
THEY STARTED A ROCKETS S HOLIDAY SHOW LAST YEAR, WHICH IS SO STRANGE, BUT THEY CALLED IT HOMETOWN HOLIDAYS, NOT KNOWING THIS YEAR HOMETOWN HOLIDAYS WOULD BE HERE.
WE'RE VERY EXCITED TO HAVE THEM HERE.
[00:45:01]
AT THIS TIME, WE'LL ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS ANYONE MAY HAVE.>> BOARD MEMBERS, NO? [INAUDIBLE]?
>> I THINK WE ALL KNOW WHY YOU WERE SUCH A FABULOUS THEATER DARTS TEACHER.
[LAUGHTER] I'M JUST GOING TO PUT THAT IN THERE.
I DIDN'T USUALLY BREAK THE MICROSCOPE.
THE OUTREACH ORGANIZATION TO GET KIDS LIKE AN APPLICATION ARE INVOLVED.
IS THERE A DEADLINE FOR THAT? LIKE WHEN DOES IT OPEN UP? WHEN DOES IT CLOSE? IS THERE A DEADLINE? YEAH, I'LL LET FLOW SPEAK FIRST.
WE HAVE ONE YEAR IF WE'RE OPENING THE WEBSITE.
THE WEBSITE IS ACTUALLY UP AND RUNNING.
BUT I ACTUALLY HAVE AN ASSISTANT WHICH IS MY DEAR HUSBAND AND HE'S GOING TO BE HANDLING THE WEBSITE.
[LAUGHTER] APPLICATIONS ARE GOING TO START OCTOBER 15TH THROUGH NOVEMBER 15TH.
I'LL BE WORKING CLOSELY WITH COMMITTEE WHO IS GOING TO REVIEW ALL THE APPLICATIONS AND THEN WE'LL GO FROM THERE.
I AM NOT PLANNING TO LEAVE ANYBODY BEHIND.
PRETTY MUCH EVERYBODY KNOWS WHO I AM.
WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO HELP EVERYBODY.
IN THE PAST, NORMALLY WE GET BETWEEN 25,000 AND 35,000 TOYS.
THE ACTUAL MAC 41 WAS GREAT TO US THAT ACTUALLY THEY SET ASIDE AND PUT IN MY ACCOUNT $50,000.
NORMALLY, THEY START YOU WITH 2,000.
[LAUGHTER] HAVING SAID THAT, I DON'T WANT TO SPEND THAT MONEY.
I WANT TO RECEIVE THE TOYS AND I WANT TO KEEP THAT MONEY FOR A RAINY DAY OR FOR THE TOYS THAT I DON'T RECEIVE.
IF THERE'S A POCKET OF STUDENTS AND KIDS THAT WE DON'T HAVE THAT ACTUAL TOY, THEN I CAN GO AND SOURCE THAT OUT.
ALSO SENSORY ITEMS SO I WANT TO BE ABLE TO HELP EVERYBODY.
I WANT TO BE VERY INTENTIONAL WITH WHAT WE BUY.
THAT'S WHY I AM KEEPING ALL THE MONEY UNTIL I HAVE TO SPEND IT.
THEY CAN GO ON THAT WEBSITE AND LIKE REQUEST A TOY, CORRECT? YES.
THERE'S A LITTLE BUTTON THEY CLICK FOR REQUEST A TOY.
YES. YOU JUST NEED TO BE ON OUR ORGANIZATION.
BUT I AM ACTUALLY GOING TO ON THE FRONT PAGE GOING TO LIST ALL THE ORGANIZATIONS.
IF THEY'RE A FAMILY THEY CAN ACTUALLY CALL ONE OF THOSE ORGANIZATIONS THAT WILL TAKE THE INFORMATION OR THEY CAN CALL ME, AND I'LL PAIR THEM WHAT OUR ORGANIZATION.
PERFECT. THEN IF YOU WANTED TO VOLUNTEER TO HELP, WOULD YOU GO TO THAT SAME WEBSITE? YES, MA'AM. THERE'S A VOLUNTEER SECTION ALSO.
YOU'RE WELCOME. ANYTHING ELSE? I DON'T HAVE ANY SPECIFIC QUESTIONS. I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU.
I KNOW THIS IS A HUGE UNDERTAKING AND THIS IS JUST A STAPLE EVENT FOR OUR COMMUNITY.
I'M NOT JUST OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT, SO THANK YOU SO MUCH.
IF YOU ARE NOT EXCITED AFTER LISTENING TO THAT PRESENTATION, WE NEED TO HAVE A TALK BECAUSE THAT WAS INCREDIBLE.
THANK YOU ALL. THANK YOU, LADIES SO MUCH.
CAN ASK YOU OTHER QUESTION? NO, I'M SORRY. MS. THOMAS HAS ONE MORE QUESTION.
IN THE WEBSITE WHERE DO THEY FIND THE WEBSITE? HOLD ON JUST A SECOND. IT'S RIGHT HERE ON THE BACK OF THE CARD AND I HAVE TWO FACEBOOK PAGES.
ONE IS JUST A REGULAR FOR OUR PARTNERS OR TEACHERS AND PRINCIPALS AND SO FORTH, SO ON AND THEN ALSO JUST A LIKE PAGE, BUT ON OUR FACEBOOK PAGE, WE'RE GOING TO GO LIVE ON OUR CENTER FOR FACEBOOK PAGE AND OUR WEBSITE, WE WILL HAVE THAT INFORMATION ALSO.
IT WILL GO LIVE ON OCTOBER 1ST, WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE TO DO THIS PRESENTATION.
THEN TOMORROW WE'RE PRESENTING TO PDC TO GIVE THE ALL THE INFORMATION THEY NEED AND THEN WE'LL GO LIVE.
THAT WAY THEY HAVE ALL THE TOOLS THEY NEED TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC.
OH MY GOD, I'M BLIND. [OVERLAPPING] LET ME HELP YOU.
>> MANSFIELD-TEXAS.TOYSFORTOTS.ORG.
YES, MA'AM. I NEED NEW GLASSES.
YOU ARE WELCOME. LADIES I WOULD JUST SAY THAT IN THE BEGINNING OF THE PRESENTATION WHEN IT'S ALMOST INDESCRIBABLE AS THEY'RE WHAT YOU'VE CREATED.
I WAS THINKING CIRCUS IN A POSITIVE WAY, NOT LIKE MY HOME RIGHT NOW.
THEN I REMEMBERED, I'M HAVING A FLASHBACK AND I DON'T KNOW IF MARK WILLIAMSON IS HERE.
BUT SEVERAL YEARS AGO AND WE WERE EARLY STILL ON INTO THE FIRST FEW YEARS OF DOING THIS AND YOU WERE JUST CREATING A DYNAMITE EVERY SEASON, IT JUST GOT BIGGER AND BIGGER.
MARK AND I WERE TALKING ONE DAY AND YOU WALKED UP AND YOU SAID, HOW MANY GENERATORS DO YOU HAVE? HE SAID, I DON'T KNOW A COUPLE AND YOU GO YOU'RE GOING TO NEED MORE THAN THAT.
HE JUST LOOKED AT ME AND GOES, I DON'T THINK I HAVE THAT MANY AND I'M LIKE, FLOW HAS SPOKEN I'M SURE YOU WILL FIND [LAUGHTER] THAT YEAR AS A PERSONAL VIEW.
YES. I HAVE TO SAY THIS AND JEFF LEFT, NO, HE'S RIGHT THERE.
HE CAN NOT LEAVE. BUT ANYHOW, I ALWAYS WANTED FIREWORKS.
I KEPT TELLING HIM I NEED FIREWORKS.
[00:50:02]
I DON'T KNOW HOW WE'RE GOING TO DO THIS.I'M LIKE TALK TO YOUR RICH FRIENDS.
THEY CAN GIVE US MONEY AND HAVE FIREWORKS.
BUT THEN I LOOKED AT TERESA AND I SAID, WAIT A MINUTE, YOU HAVE FIREWORKS COMING OVER SO NOW WE HAVE FIREWORKS.
IT'S ONE OF THE MOST ENTERTAINING EVENTS OF THE YEAR AND THANKS ALSO OFFICERS FOR PARTICIPATING IN IDENTIFYING WHAT OUR LADIES HAVE PUT TOGETHER.
WE APPRECIATE YOU, TOO. THANK YOU, GUYS.
THIS TAKES US TO ITEM 8.2, THE 2017 BOND PROGRAM REPORT, DR. CANTU? YES. I SEE JEFF BROGDEN AND PAUL THOMPSON ARE COMING FORWARD RIGHT NOW TO DELIVER THIS REPORT.
I'LL TURN IT OVER TO YOU GENTLEMEN.
JUST TO BE CLEAR, I SAID NO FIREWORKS FOR LIKE NINE YEARS IN A ROW AND SHE FOUND A WAY TO HAVE FIREWORKS.
I WAS ALSO ABSENT AT THE MEETING THEN I GOT PUT IN CHARGE OF THE COMMITTEE.
I DIDN'T GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO VOLUNTEER, BUT IT'S SUCH A GREAT PROGRAM.
WHO PICKED OUR TIME SLOT HERE? BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW AND YOU CAN'T FOLLOW GIVEN TOYS AWAY WITH ANYTHING.
BUT WE'RE GOING TO DO OUR BEST TO SHOW YOU WHAT WE'VE ACCOMPLISHED IN THE 2017 BOND PROGRAM.
WE'RE VERY CLOSE TO BEING COMPLETE.
I MEAN, IT'S JUST FIVE YEARS AGO WHEN WE LAUNCHED THIS CAMPAIGN THAT SAW THREE NEW SCHOOLS BUILT, SEVERAL OTHER BUILDINGS THAT YOU'RE GOING TO SEE IN THE PRESENTATION AND MANY RENOVATIONS.
WE'RE PRETTY EXCITED ABOUT IT.
GIVE YOU A LITTLE HISTORY REAL QUICK.
BACK TO 2001 WAS A BOND PROGRAM.
I WANT YOU TO PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT WAS ACCOMPLISHED UNDER THESE BOND PROGRAMS AS WE MOVE LEFT TO RIGHT.
IN 2001, WE PASSED A $180 MILLION BOND PROGRAM THAT SAW TIMBER VIEW HIGH SCHOOL, DANNY JONES MIDDLE-SCHOOL, DELLA EISENHOWER, ELIZABETH SMITH, ON AND ON AND ON.
AS WE GO RIGHT TO 2002, WE HAVE A BOND PROGRAM JUST FOR BEN BARBER, 2003, $225 MILLION AND YOU SEE THOSE CAMPUSES.
2006, $241 MILLION, AND MANY NEW CAMPUSES.
2001, ALMOST 200 MILLION SEVERAL NEW CAMPUSES MOVE OVER TO 2017, OUR LARGEST BOND PROGRAM EVER 275 MILLION, ALL THREE NEW SCHOOLS.
WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU? AS YOU MOVE LEFT OR RIGHT.
IT TELLS YOU ABOUT WHERE OUR ECONOMY IS AND WHERE CONSTRUCTION COSTS ARE, AND THEY CONTINUE TO CLIMB.
THE REASON I WANT TO POINT THIS OUT IS OUR TIMING FOR THE 2017 BOND PROGRAM COULD NOT HAVE BEEN ANY BETTER.
HAVE THAT BOND PROGRAM BEEN DELAYED TO 2019, I WOULD HAVE BEEN SPENDING THE LAST TWO YEARS TELLING YOU WE'RE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT.
WE'RE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT, WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO CUT BACK HERE.
WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO CUT BACK HERE.
2017 WAS POTENTIALLY THE MOST IDEAL TIME FOR THAT BOND PROGRAM FOR US TO ACCOMPLISH EVERYTHING WE DID.
I'M SO PROUD THAT WE KICKED IT OFF WHEN WE DID.
THANK YOU TO OUR COMMUNITY FOR SUPPORTING IT IN A HUGE WAY.
I'M GOING TO TURN OVER TO PAUL. HE'S GOING TO TALK ABOUT THE BOND PROGRAM IN DETAIL AND WE'RE GOING TO SHOW YOU SOME REALLY COOL PICTURES.
THANK YOU, JEFF. GOOD EVENING DR. CANTU, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.
IT'S GOOD TO BE IN FRONT OF YOU AGAIN.
I JUST WANTED TO EXPLAIN A LITTLE BIT OF THE FORMAT FOR TONIGHT.
I'M MATCHING THE FORMAT THAT WE BROKE EVERYTHING DOWN WITH THE COMMITTEES.
THE LONG-RANGE PLANNING AND THE BOND COMMITTEES.
THEY LOOKED AT THINGS FROM A LENS OF GROWTH, EVOLVING SECURITY, AND CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS FOR AGING.
WE SPLIT THAT UP FOR YOU TONIGHT AND IN EFFORT TO MAKE SURE THAT I'M NOT HERE ALL NIGHT TALKING AND PRESENTING ALL OF THE THINGS.
I'VE PULLED ALL OF THE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS FOR INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS OUT OF THE PRESENTATION.
I'M JUST GOING TO SPEAK TO THEM, BUT I'LL BE HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE.
ALL OF THE DETAIL FOR THOSE PROJECTS ARE BROKEN DOWN BY CAMPUS UNDER TABS AND THESE BINDERS THAT I'VE PLACED ON EACH OF YOUR SEEDS.
TO SATISFY THE GROWTH IN THE DISTRICT, YOU SAW ALL OF THE CAMPUSES.
FOR THE PAST DECADE AND A HALF, WE'VE BEEN BASICALLY JUST BUILDING CAMPUSES AS FAST AS WE CAN HERE IN MANSFIELD.
ALL OF THE NEW CAMPUSES WERE DESIGNED IN RESPONSE TO THAT.
THEY WERE ALSO A DEPARTURE FROM THE PROTOTYPE CAMPUSES THAT WE HAD BEEN BUILDING FOR THE PREVIOUS DECADE FOR THE ELEMENTARY, INTERMEDIATE, AND MIDDLE SCHOOL CAMPUSES.
ALL OF THESE NEW SCHOOLS WE FORM DESIGN COMMITTEES FOR EACH OF THESE SCHOOLS MADE UP OF ADMINISTRATORS, PRINCIPALS, STAFF, AND SOME STUDENTS AND THEY PROVIDED THE INPUT FOR HOW THE DESIGNS WOULD TAKE PLACE AND WE PUT TOGETHER.
ALL OF THE LAND FOR ALL OF THESE CAMPUSES WAS ALREADY OWNED BY THE DISTRICT THAT HAPPENED TO BE IN THAT SOUTH POINT SUBDIVISION IN THE SOUTH WHERE ALL THE GROWTH IS TAKING PLACE.
THE DESIGN COMMITTEES THAT LOOKED AT THESE CAMPUSES REALLY
[00:55:04]
WANTED TO FOCUS ON THE COLLABORATIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS, BUT ALSO DEALING WITH THE CAPACITY STRUGGLES THAT YOU GUYS HAVE BEEN HANDLING SO WE HAVE MORE CAPACITY ON ALL OF THESE CAMPUSES.A COUPLE OF 100 STUDENTS ON THE ELEMENTARY, 300 AND 200 MORE STUDENTS ON THE INTERMEDIATE AND MIDDLE SCHOOL CAMPUSES.
ALSO, WE HAVE SCHOOLS OF CHOICE ON THESE CAMPUSES, WHICH IN 2016, WHEN WE WERE LEADING UP TO THE BOND, THERE WAS NO SCHOOLS OF CHOICE IN MANSFIELD.
NOW YOU GUYS HAVE OVER 1500 STUDENTS IN YOUR STEM AND FINE ARTS ACADEMY PROGRAMS. ALL OF THESE NEW CAMPUSES INCLUDE YOUR TRADITIONAL NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOL.
IN OTHER WORDS, THOSE KIDS THAT WOULD BE ZONE TO GO TO THAT SCHOOL, AS WELL AS SCHOOLS OF CHOICE.
THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL THERE IS A FINE ARTS ACADEMY FOR 100 STUDENTS AND A STEM ACADEMY, WHICH YOU'RE SEEING IN THOSE IMAGES TO THE RIGHT.
I KNOW MOST OF YOU HAVE HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO GET INTO THESE SCHOOLS YOURSELF.
BUT WE'RE LOOKING AT AN OPEN, COLLABORATIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT.
YOU'RE LOOKING THROUGH AN OPEN LIBRARY THERE INTO THE STEM SPACE THAT OVERLOOKS THAT SPACE AND THEN THE FINE ARTS ACADEMY THERE BELOW.
SPACES THAT SHOW LEARNING ON DISPLAY AND COLLABORATION, EVEN IN THE TRADITIONAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS. I HIT THE WRONG BUTTON.
AGAIN, YOU HAVE FLEXIBILITY IN THE SPACES.
YOU SEE SOME IMAGES OF BOTH THE TRADITIONAL CLASSROOM SPACES THERE AS WELL AS THE SIM SPACES.
A VARIETY OF SEEDING, A VARIETY OF FLEXIBILITY SO THAT THE KIDS CAN MOVE IN AND OUT OF THOSE CLASSROOMS AND ALSO IN THE SPACES THEMSELVES.
WHICH YOU'RE SEEING DOWN AT THE LOWER IMAGE IS OF THE DANCE ROOM, WHICH ALSO CAN SERVE THEATER ARTS AS WELL IN THE FINE ARTS ACADEMY.
ALMA MARTINEZ INTERMEDIATE SCHOOLS, THE NEW INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL.
AGAIN, IT ALSO INCLUDES A FINE ARTS AND A STEM ACADEMY COMPONENTS.
YOU'RE SEEING OPEN COLLABORATIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS THERE.
YOU'RE LOOKING AT THE OPEN LEARNINGS AND MEDIA CENTER THERE WITH A MAKERSPACE AT THE BACK OF THAT, WE HAVE LEARNING STAIRS IN THE SCHOOLS, AS WELL AS MAKERSPACES WITHIN THE STEM COMPONENTS.
BEING AN INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL, THE SCIENCE SPACE WITHIN THAT STEM ACADEMY IS OUTFITTED AS A HIGH SCHOOL WITH THE SAME CASEWORK AND FIXTURES.
AGAIN, OUTDOOR LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS.
HERE YOU CAN SEE THE PIANO LAB IN THIS SCHOOL.
AGAIN, LEARNING ON DISPLAY, YOU CAN SEE INTO THAT DANCE HALL.
THEN JUST THE FLEXIBILITY AND THE VARIETY OF THE SEATING ARRANGEMENTS IN THAT SCHOOL.
THE NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL, IS COMPRISED OF A STEM ACADEMY FOR 300 STUDENTS.
THE DESIGN COMMITTEE LOOKED AT THIS AND YOU GUYS ALREADY HAVE SUCH A ROBUST FINE ARTS PROGRAM IN YOUR MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL.
WE JUST NEEDED TO EMBELLISH THAT BY PROVIDING THE ORCHESTRA AND THE DANCE SPACES SO THAT THERE'LL BE A CONTINUATION OF THOSE SPACES FROM SCHOOL TO SCHOOL.
AGAIN, YOU HAVE SPACES HERE AND YOU'RE FINE ARTS AND ATHLETICS THAT RIVAL THAT OF HIGH SCHOOLS IN THIS MIDDLE-SCHOOL SPACE.
FROM AN EQUITY AND STUDENT EXPERIENCE PERSPECTIVE, THESE WERE THE LARGER RENOVATIONS PROJECTS, IF YOU WILL.
AT MANSFIELD HIGH SCHOOL, THE SIGNIFICANT RENOVATION HERE WAS TO OPEN UP SOME OF THE SPACE IN THE KITCHEN AND THE SERVERY AND PROVIDE A LITTLE BIT MORE EFFICIENCY IN THE DISBURSEMENT OF THE STUDENTS THAT ARE THERE FOR LUNCH.
THE LIGHT RAIL SPACE WAS ACTUALLY USED FOR A DIFFERENT USE.
IT WAS NOT PART OF THE KITCHEN, SO WE'VE USED THAT AND CONVERTED THAT TO A REMOTE SERVING LINE TO HELP WITH THAT EFFICIENCY AND GET THOSE KIDS A LITTLE BIT MORE SPREAD OUT.
TENNIS COURTS WERE ALSO RENOVATED AT THE SCHOOL.
SUMMIT HIGH SCHOOL, THESE RENOVATIONS WERE THE MOST EXTENSIVE OF THE RENOVATIONS THAT TOOK PLACE.
THIS CAMPUS, IF YOU'D BEEN THERE BEFORE WAS, IT'S DARK, A BROWN BRICK.
THE RENOVATIONS THAT WE DID HERE IN THE UPPER IMAGE OR SING INSIDE THE NEW CAFETERIA SPACE WE OPENED THAT UP AND TOOK ADVANTAGE OF SOME ABILITY TO GET SOME NATURAL LIGHT IN THERE FROM ABOVE.
THE IMAGE AT THE LOWER IMAGE THERE IS OF THE LIBRARY SPACE AND AGAIN, WE OPEN THAT SPACE UP AND BRIGHTENED IT UP WITH BRIGHTER COLORS AND FINISHES.
WE CLOSE THE ENTRY TO CREATE A NEW CONTROLLED VESTIBULE ON THIS CAMPUS.
THEN THE LOWER RIGHT IMAGE ARE SEEING A NEW AND CLOSED CONNECTION FROM THE PARK INTO THE SCHOOL THAT WAS ACTUALLY KIDS HAVING TO WALK OUTDOORS TO GET TO THAT.
T. HOWARD MIDDLE SCHOOL WAS A SIGNIFICANT RENOVATION.
ON THIS ONE, THE ORIGINAL PLAN WAS TO ENCLOSE THE TWO OPEN COURTYARDS THAT ARE IN THAT SCHOOL.
BUT LOOKING AT THAT AND TRYING TO SOLVE FOR THE CIRCULATION ISSUES THAT WE HAD, WE DECIDED TO PUT THOSE CLASSROOM ADDITIONS FOUR ON EACH SIDE OF THE SCHOOL TO ACTUALLY GET THE KIDS OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF THE SCHOOL AND HELP IMPROVE THAT CIRCULATION.
THIS IS ONE IF YOU'VE BEEN IN THAT CAMPUS, THERE'S ACTUALLY ONE WAY HALLWAYS TO DEAL WITH THAT.
WE ALSO RENOVATED THE EXTERIOR AND PAINTED THE SCHOOL TO IMPROVE THE AESTHETICS.
[01:00:01]
AT WORLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL, THIS WAS AN EIGHT CLASSROOM ADDITION AS WELL.WAS A MINOR RENOVATIONS OF SOME OF THE INTERIOR SPACES.
ON THIS CAMPUS, THE THOUGHT WAS TO PUT ALL OF THOSE EIGHT CLASSROOMS ON ONE LOCATION.
YOU CAN ACTUALLY STILL SEE IN THIS IMAGE THE DIRT FROM THE PORTABLES THAT WE'RE ABLE TO BE REMOVED.
BOTH THIS CAMPUS AND T. A. HOWARD, THE ADDITIONS WERE NOT TO ADD CAPACITY TO THE CAMPUS IT WAS JUST TO PROVIDE THE ABILITY TO GET ALL THE STUDENTS OUT OF THE PORTABLES.
AT CROSS TIMBERS THE RENOVATION HERE WAS TO ADD THAT NEW COVERED ENTRY.
FOR WHATEVER REASON THIS WAS, I THINK THE FIRST CAMPUS AND IT WAS NOT BUILT WITH AN ENTRY, SO RENOVATION TO ADD THAT.
WE ALSO REPLACED ALL THE FURNITURE IN THIS CAMPUS.
AT THE PHOENIX ACADEMY, IF YOU GUYS REMEMBER THIS, THAT YOU ACTUALLY WALKED EXTERIOR SPACE TO GET FROM ONE PORTION OF THE SCHOOL TO THE OTHER, HAVING TO JUST WALK OUTDOORS.
THE RENOVATION HERE WAS TO ENCLOSE THAT, CREATE A SECURE VESTIBULE FOR THE SCHOOL AND MORE CONNECTIVITY AND SECURITY FOR THAT CAMPUS.
ON ALL OF THE HIGH SCHOOL CAMPUSES, PART OF THE SCOPE WAS TO ADD A MULTI-PURPOSE ATHLETIC FACILITY.
WE ALSO CONVENED A DESIGN COMMITTEE MADE UP OF COACHES AND ATHLETICS ADMINISTRATORS, NOT JUST A FOOTBALL, BUT ALL THE VARIOUS TEAMS AND THE ATHLETIC ADMINISTRATORS.
IT WAS IMPORTANT FOR THEM TO PROVIDE A SPACE THAT REALLY ADDRESSED ALL THE NEEDS FOR ALL OF THE TEAMS AND ALSO TRY TO GET SOME ADDED BENEFIT FROM POTENTIAL GROWTH FOR THE ADDITIONAL WANTS THAT THEY HAD ON THEIR LIST.
EACH ONE OF THESE BUILDINGS, THE FIRST PHASE, IF YOU WILL, THIS IS A TWO-STOREY FACILITY.
THE FIRST PHASE INCLUDES A FINISHED OUT SPACE ON THE FIRST FLOOR WITH TEAM MEETING ROOMS, A WEIGHT ROOM IN A TRAINING SPACE.
THAT'S ABOUT FOUR TIMES THE SPACE OF THE EXISTING IN THEIR FIELD HOUSES.
IT ALSO INCLUDED THE SECOND FLOOR, THAT IS THE SHELDON SPACE.
IN OTHER WORDS, IT DOESN'T HAVE ALL THE FINISHES IN THERE, BUT WE'VE ACTUALLY TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF THE ABILITY TO GET ALL THE INFRASTRUCTURE AND THE LIGHTS AND THE AC ARE ALREADY IN THERE.
THAT WOULD BE FINISHED IN A FUTURE PHASE FOR ALL OF YOUR FOOTBALL VARSITY LOCKERS.
UNDER SAFETY AND SECURITY, THIS IS FURTHER IN THE PRESENTATION, BUT THIS WAS ACTUALLY TWO OF THE FIRST THINGS THAT WE DID OUT OF THE GATES.
AFTER THE BOND PASSED, WE STARTED THE DESIGN OF THE NEW SCHOOLS.
THEN YOU GUYS PUT ENHANCED VIDEO SURVEILLANCE ALL OVER CAMPUSES RIGHT OFF THE BAT.
ALSO, WE CAN BE IN DESIGN COMMITTEE TO LOOK AT PLAYGROUNDS AND THAT ALSO STARTED FOR ALL OF THE CAMPUSES RIGHT OUT OF THE GATES.
ON THE PLAYGROUNDS, THE COMMITTEE WAS LOOKING AT, YOU HAD A WOOD CHIPS THERE BEFORE.
IT'S OBVIOUSLY A SAFETY ISSUE JUST FROM GETTING SPLINTERS AND DAMAGES THERE.
YOU ALSO DID NOT HAVE COVERED EQUIPMENT EVERYWHERE.
YOU HAD A MIXED BAG OF EQUIPMENT THAT HAD BEEN DONATED BY PTA AND ARE PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL.
YOU JUST HAD A RANDOM BAG OF THINGS.
THIS MADE EQUITY ACROSS ALL OF THE CAMPUSES PROVIDED A RUBBERIZED PLAY SURFACE THAT INCREASES THE SECURITY, ALSO THE SHADE COVERS FOR ALL OF THE EQUIPMENT TO PREVENT THAT FROM GETTING HOT.
THE INCLUSIVITY OF THE PROJECT, AND THE ABILITY TO GO SCAN QR CODES TO COME UP WITH SOME STEM BASED LEARNING MOTIFS FOR THAT AS WELL.
THE LOWER IMAGE IS ACTUALLY YOUR INTERMEDIATE PLAYGROUNDS.
YOU ONLY HAD ONE AND IT WAS DONATED BY PTA AT LILLARD SO THIS ALLOWED US TO ADD THAT AT ALL OF THE CAMPUSES.
THEN THE NEW SCHOOLS THAT GOT DESIGNED ALSO INCLUDED THE SAME DESIGN.
AGAIN, I SPOKE TO THE VIDEO SURVEILLANCE THAT WAS DONE AT THE ONSET OF THE BOND.
IN ADDITION, WE UPGRADED FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS WHERE NEEDED AT END OF LIFE CYCLES, AND THEN THE LED POLE LIGHTS.
THIS IS AT DANNY JONES AND I CAN TELL YOU MY SON PLAYED FOOTBALL AT DANNY JONES IN 2014, 2015, AND THEY HAD TO WARM UP IN THE PARKING LOT UNDER THE LIGHTS AND THE CONCRETE.
IT'S OBVIOUS WHY THAT'S A SAFETY ISSUE AND CONCERN, BUT JUST WARMS MY HEART SEEING THOSE GUYS PLAY FOOTBALL THERE UNDER THE LIGHTS THERE.
I SPOKE TO THIS EARLIER THE $55 MILLION THAT REMAINED.
WE IDENTIFIED ABOUT $225 MILLION WORTH OF NEED IN THE FACILITIES ASSESSMENT.
THIS WAS ONE WHERE WE JUST BACKED IN FROM THE NEW SCHOOLS AND WHATEVER WAS LEFT IN THAT BOND THE COMMITTEE DECIDED TO PLACE TO THE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS.
THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT ARE SPELLED OUT.
LIKE NEW ROOFS AND HVAC REPLACEMENTS AND FINISHES ON ALL THE VARIOUS CAMPUSES.
DUE TO THE FRUGALNESS OF THE DISTRICT AND THE ABILITY TO WORK WITH THE SCHEDULES AND THE CONTRACTS THAT WE HAD, AS JEFF MENTIONED, THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET THESE PROJECTS BEFORE COVID AND THE INFLATION THINGS THAT WE'VE SEEN HERE RECENTLY, THERE WERE SAVINGS.
THE DISTRICT DECIDED TO USE THOSE SAVINGS FOR SOME PRIORITIZED NEEDS.
[01:05:01]
I WON'T TALK ABOUT ALL OF THESE, I'LL JUST MENTION THE FIRST TWO.THEY'RE OBVIOUSLY CREATING FINE ARTS ACADEMIES AT BOTH KENNETH DAVIS AND CROSS TIMBERS, ALLOWING FOR MORE SCHOOLS OF CHOICE.
I THINK THAT GETS YOU UP TO 461 STUDENTS IN YOUR FINE ARTS ACADEMIES NOW WITH THESE, AND THEN THE LAST TWO ITEMS THERE DEALING WITH THE ABILITY TO BETTER COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR FIRST RESPONDERS INTO EACH OTHER AS A SAFETY AND SECURITY MEASURE.
WITH THAT, I THINK I BEAT MY TIMING ON THE LAST PRESENTATION FOR THIS. ANY QUESTIONS?
>> I'M NOT SURE, WE'LL SEE ABOUT THAT.
[LAUGHTER] BOARD MEMBERS WILL START TO THIS SIDE THIS TIME.
ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS FROM SPONSOR? HOW ABOUT THIS SIDE? ALL GOOD? LOOK HOW GOOD YOU DID.
>> I DID DO A POOR JOB INTRODUCING HIM, AND MANY OF YOU ALREADY KNOW HIM.
BUT JUST FOR THE RECORD, PAUL IS OUR RESIDENT ARCHITECT, AND I'M VERY PROUD TO HAVE WORKED WITH HIM FOR SEVERAL YEARS.
THE REALLY NEAT THING IS THAT HE LIVES IN THE COMMUNITY AND HIS KIDS HAVE ATTENDED MANSFIELD ISD.
I KNOW THAT HE'S ALWAYS INVESTED IN WHAT WE'RE DOING IN OUR BOND PROGRAM. THANK YOU, PAUL.
>> THIS TAKES US TO ITEM 8.3, THE FACILITIES AND OPERATIONS SYSTEMS REPORT, DR. CANTU.
>> MR. BROGAN IS GOING TO TAKE THIS INTRODUCTION OF DR. PAUL CASH.
>> YEAH. I AM VERY PROUD THAT WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT OUR SYSTEMS REPORTS.
THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THAT WE'VE GIVEN IT TO THE BOARD, AND THERE'S A LOT OF INFORMATION IN YOUR BOARD PACKET ABOUT OUR SYSTEMS. VERY PROUD TO HAVE DR. PAUL CASH COME UP AND GIVE THIS PRESENTATION.
HE HAS WORKED VERY HARD ON IT, AND LOOK FORWARD TO WHAT HE'S GOING TO PRESENT TO YOU.
>> DR. CANTU, MS. WILSON, BOARD OF TRUSTEES, EXECUTIVE COUNCIL, I'M EXCITED TO BE THE FIRST DEPARTMENT TO GET TO DO A SYSTEMS REPORT.
>> SINCE I FAILED AGAIN, WHY DON'T WE INTRODUCE OUR STAFF THAT'S BACK?
>> HEY, WHY DON'T YOU SIT DOWN? [LAUGHTER] THE WAY THAT WE'VE ORGANIZED THIS PRESENTATION IS WE REALLY HAVE FOUR AREAS OF WHAT WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT.
WE ARE GOING TO TALK ABOUT THE PEOPLE THAT ARE INVOLVED IN THE FACILITIES DEPARTMENT, WE'RE GOING TO BRIEFLY TOUCH ON THE SCORECARD.
MS. DENTON HAS A PRESENTATION LATER, WHERE SHE'S GOING TO DIVE A LITTLE DEEPER INTO THE SCORECARD.
REALLY, WHAT THIS PRESENTATION IS GOING TO FOCUS ON IS THE DIVISIONS THAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT, WHAT ARE THEIR STRENGTHS AND WHAT DO THEY HAVE? WHAT ARE THEIR CONCERNS OR THEIR OBJECTIVES, AS THEY MOVE INTO THE FUTURE? WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE FACILITIES DEPARTMENT, WE HAVE A LOT OF DIVISIONS UNDERNEATH US.
WE HAVE TECHNOLOGY, MAINTENANCE, CUSTODIAL, STUDENT NUTRITION, TRANSPORTATION, BOND MANAGEMENT, CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS, RISK MANAGEMENT, AND ENERGY MANAGEMENT.
THE GOOD NEWS IS NOT ALL OF THOSE ARE INVOLVED IN THIS SYSTEMS REPORT.
IT IS GOING TO FOCUS ON THESE FOUR.
WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT MAINTENANCE, CUSTODIAL, RISK MANAGEMENT, ENERGY MANAGEMENT ARE GOING TO BE.
ALL THE REST OF THOSE DEPARTMENTS GET THEIR OWN SPACE IN THEIR OWN TIME TO GET COVERED IN THE FUTURE.
WHEN YOU LOOK AT OUR SCORECARD BRIEFLY, THIS IS THE BEGINNING SCORECARD FOR VISION 2030, WHERE THEY HAVE THE FIVE-YEAR GOALS.
LAST YEAR, IN THE FIRST YEAR, SOME OF OUR DIVISIONS REALLY EXCELLED AND THEY'VE BEEN ABLE TO EVEN MEET THOSE FIVE-YEAR GOALS AFTER THE FIRST YEAR.
HOWEVER, WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT A LITTLE LATER, BUT EVERYBODY IS DOING GREAT JOB IN THE GREEN AND IN THE BLUE WITH WHERE THEY ARE.
THEN AGAIN, MS. DENTON IS GOING TO GET INTO THAT LATER.
I'M GOING TO JUMP RIGHT IN, I'M GOING TO TALK ABOUT THE MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT STRENGTHS.
OF COURSE, THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT IS MARK WILLIAMSON, YOU MENTIONED HIM EARLIER.
HE'LL BE BACK TOMORROW, BUT HE'S NOT ABLE TO BE WITH US TODAY.
BUT REALLY, I WANT TO TALK ABOUT PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND COMMITMENT ARE THE STRENGTHS OF THE MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT.
THE MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT STAFF IS A VERY VETERAN STAFF.
WHAT THAT ALLOWS US TO DO IS THEIR EXPERIENCE ALLOWS US TO PERFORM VERY HIGH-LEVEL TASK ON A REGULAR BASIS.
WHEN WE HAVE A SITUATION THAT COMES UP, WE DON'T HAVE TO GO SEEK WHERE ARE THE ANSWERS, WE HAVE PEOPLE THAT HAVE THE ANSWERS.
AN EXAMPLE OF THAT, AND I'M GOING TO REFER TO THIS A LOT JUST BECAUSE IT'S SUCH A TRAUMATIC EVENT WAS THE FEBRUARY WINTER STORM.
AN EXAMPLE IS WE HAD BUILDINGS THAT LOST POWER.
WHEN THEY LOSE POWER, THE NEXT THING THAT HAPPENS IS WATER IS GOING TO FREEZE AND THEIR PIPES ARE GOING TO BURST.
BUT BECAUSE WE HAD NOT ONLY PEOPLE THAT WERE COMMITTED TO COME OUT AND WORK THAT DAY, BUT WE HAD EXPERIENCED VETERAN PEOPLE ON STAFF THAT KNEW RIGHT WHERE TO GO,
[01:10:04]
WHERE THE WATER SHUTOFFS WERE, CUTOFFS WERE, WE WERE ABLE TO DRAIN THE LINES.IT DIDN'T TAKE US 10, 15, 30, AN HOUR TO FIND OUT WHERE THAT WAS.
REALLY WHEN WATER IS FREEZING AND IT'S 10 DEGREES OUTSIDE, TIME IS CRITICAL.
THEY REALLY IN THAT EVENT ALONE, YOU'VE HEARD THESE NUMBERS BEFORE, WE HAD ABOUT $600,000 WORTH OF LOSSES, BUT PEOPLE LIKE CARROLLTON HAD 25 MILLION.
BUT BECAUSE OUR PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND THE COMMITMENT THAT THEY HAD, THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN HERE.
THE OTHER LEVEL OF COMMITMENT THAT I WANT TO TALK ABOUT IS, AND YOU ALL SEE THIS REPORT VERY REGULARLY IS THE MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT IS COMMITTED TO PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE.
OUR BUILDINGS LOOK AND OPERATE AND FUNCTION THE WAY THEY DO IN A HIGH-LEVEL, BECAUSE OF PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE. IT'S A PRIORITY.
I THINK WE'RE AT ABOUT 25 PERCENT IS THE GOAL THAT ALL WORK ORDERS ARE COMMITTED TO PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE.
FOR THE LAST 3-4 YEARS, MAYBE EVEN FIVE, THE MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT HAS BEEN COMMITTED TO LOCKS AND DOORS IN THIS DISTRICT.
BEFORE ANYBODY MADE A START LOOKING AT THESE THINGS, WE HAD ALREADY TAKEN STEPS TO ENSURE THAT EVERY CLASSROOM DOOR WHEN IT CLOSED, IT LOCKED.
THAT'S PART OF THEIR COMMITMENT.
I ALREADY TALKED ABOUT THE WINTER EVENT.
THE OTHER LEVEL OF COMMITMENT THEY HAD IS, CONTINUALLY DOING THE FACILITIES ASSESSMENT TO SEE WHAT NEEDS ARE OR WHAT REPAIRS NEED TO BE DONE.
THIS IS JUST SOME REPRESENTATION.
PAUL THOMPSON, IS HE STILL HERE? HE LEFT. SEE THE BOTTOM LEFT-HAND CORNER.
HE SHOWED YOU A PICTURE EARLIER WHAT SUMMIT'S LIBRARY LOOKED LIKE WHEN IT WAS BRAND NEW, THIS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE WITH FOUR INCHES OF WATER IN IT.
IT DOESN'T LOOK QUITE AS GOOD.
BUT THIS JUST GOES TO SHOW THAT WHEN ALL THIS WAS GOING ON, THE MAINTENANCE TEAM WAS COMMITTED TO GO TAKE CARE OF IT.
BUT IF YOU LOOK AT THE TOP PICTURE, RIGHT NOW, THAT PICTURE IS AT TARVER-RENDON THAT WHEN THE FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM BREAKS, THAT'S HOW MUCH WATER COMES OUT.
THAT WATER COMES OUT UNTIL SOMEBODY TURNS IT OFF.
IF YOU LOOK CLOSE TO THE TOP, WE'LL SEE WHAT IT'LL DO.
[NOISE] JUST IMAGINE THAT RUNNING FOR 10 MINUTES, HOW MUCH WATER IS IN THE SCHOOL? THIS TEAM WORKED HARD ENOUGH THAT WE DIDN'T MISS ANY DAY, WE OPENED ON TIME AT SCHOOL.
THE NEXT PART THAT I WANT TO MOVE TO IS CUSTODIAL DEPARTMENT.
OSCAR BARBOUR. OSCAR HERE, RAISE YOUR HAND.
HIS NICE SUPERVISORS, RICKY, OLGA, JOSE, AND MINA, THEY ARE AS COMMITTED MISD EMPLOYEES AS YOU'LL EVER SEE.
ORGANIZATION, DEDICATION, AND CREATIVITY, REALLY DEFINES THE STRENGTHS OF THE CUSTODIAL DEPARTMENT.
ONE OF THE THINGS THAT'S IMPORTANT IS YOU HAVE TO BE EFFICIENT WITH THE PEOPLE THAT YOU'RE PUTTING OUT ON CAMPUSES TO CLEAN AND TAKE CARE OF ALL THE CUSTODIAL NEEDS.
WELL, THERE IS A PROCESS CALLED UNITIZATION.
WHAT THAT DOES IS IT TAKES INDUSTRY STANDARDS TO BE THE MOST EFFICIENT AS YOU CAN BE.
BUT WHAT I WANT YOU GUYS TO UNDERSTAND IS NOT EVERY SCHOOL IS THE SAME.
I'LL GIVE YOU A QUICK EXAMPLE.
D. P. MORRIS IS A SCHOOL THAT HAS JUST UNDER 60,000 CLEANABLE SQUARE FEET.
THE INDUSTRY NUMBERS WILL TELL YOU THREE PEOPLE CAN PROBABLY CLEAN THAT, AND THEN THEY'LL CLEAN BETWEEN 18,000-20,000 SQUARE FEET IN EIGHT-HOUR SHIFT.
BUT THEN IF YOU TAKE ONE OF OUR NEWER SCHOOLS LIKE NORWOOD, IT HAS JUST OVER 100,000 CLEANABLE SQUARE FEET.
THEN YOU TURN AROUND AND SAY WE'RE GOING TO PUT FOUR CUSTODIANS THERE, BUT NOW THEY'RE GOING TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR CLEANING SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 23,000-25,000 SQUARE FEET IN EIGHT-HOUR SHIFT.
HE'S EXTREMELY ORGANIZED, AND HE TAKES CARE OF HIS STAFF EXTREMELY WELL.
THE NEXT TWO ON THE LIST, THE WINTER EVENT AND COVID CLEANING. WINTER EVENT.
OSCAR AND HIS TEAM DURING THE WINTER EVENT ON FEBRUARY, WE HAD SUMMIT, WE HAD TARVER-RENDON, WE HAD LAKE RIDGE, WE HAD OTHER SCHOOLS.
EVERYWHERE WHERE THERE WAS WATER THERE WERE PIPE BURST, THEY COMMITTED STAFF, THEY COMMITTED HOURS, THEY COMMITTED THE TIME THAT IT TOOK TO CLEAN EVERYTHING UP, TO REPLACE CEILING TILES SO THAT WE OPENED ON TIME ON MONDAY MORNING.
OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS DURING COVID AND THEN COMING OUT OF COVID,
[01:15:03]
STAFFING HAS BEEN AN ISSUE WITH CUSTODIAN.WE'LL TALK ABOUT THAT A LITTLE BIT LATER.
BUT EVERY TIME THERE'S A COVID CASE, THEY ARE TAKING THE EXTRA TIME TO CLEAN, DISINFECT, AND SANITIZE CLASSROOMS. SOMETIMES THEY GET A CALL AT FOUR O'CLOCK IN THE AFTERNOON, AND SAY, "HEY, WE NEED TO DO A WHOLE SCHOOL, WE NEED TO DO IT THIS EVENING." THEN BOOM, HIS TEAM IS IN THERE TAKING CARE OF IT.
OSCAR, THERE IS NO EIGHT-HOUR DAY ON HIS TEAM ANYMORE.
IF HE CAN FIND ANYBODY IN THE DISTRICT THAT'S WILLING TO WORK FOR THREE HOURS, HE CAN FIND A PLACE FOR HIM FOR THREE HOURS BECAUSE ANYTIME HE CAN GET SOMEBODY THERE, THEN IT HELPS RELIEVE HIS PEOPLE AND SO HE'S BEEN VERY CREATIVE WITH THAT.
YOU CAN SEE HERE ON THE LEFT-HAND SIDE, THIS IS A COMBINATION WHERE OUR MAINTENANCE TEAM HAD TO COME OUT AND CUT OUT SHEET ROCK BECAUSE IT HAD FLOODED AND THEN THAT'S WHERE OSCAR AND HIS TEAM HAD BEEN IN THERE CLEANING THE CARPETS, DRYING CARPETS AND DOING EVERYTHING THEY NEED TO DO AND THEN OF COURSE, THE COVID CLEANING AND SANITIZING THAT WE DO.
RISK MANAGEMENT. THIS IS A TWO-PERSON TEAM.
THEIR KEYWORDS ARE EXPERIENCE AND COMPASSION.
IF YOU LOOK REAL CLOSE, THE PIECE OF PAPER THAT THEY'RE HOLDING UP, IT SAYS, STARTING 23 YEARS IN MISD TOGETHER.
THAT IS OF COURSE, SHELLEY TAYLOR, SHE'S HERE AND THEN HER PARTNER IN CRIME IS MIRIAM CINDERELLA.
SHE'S NOT HERE TODAY, BUT I'M GOING TO TALK A LITTLE BIT.
EACH HAVE 23 YEARS IN THE DISTRICT.
I'M GOING TO READ THESE A LITTLE BIT BECAUSE I WANT YOU TO KNOW JUST HOW MUCH THEY'RE INVOLVED WITH STUFF IN THE DISTRICT.
THEY MANAGE ALL OUR LEGAL ISSUES.
THEY ENSURE THAT ALL VENDORS THAT EVER COME INTO OUR DISTRICT HAVE CERTIFICATES OF INSURANCE.
THE RISK MANAGEMENT DEALS WITH FALSE CLAIMS IN REGARDS TO THE OFFICE OF CIVIL RIGHTS, EEOC, GENERAL LIABILITY PROPERTY, AUTOMOTIVE, ON AND ON AND ON, AND THEN THEY DO WORKERS COMPENSATION.
THEN ONE OF THE GREATEST ASSETS WE HAVE IS THE SECOND WORD THERE IS COMPASSION.
THESE TWO LADIES, THEY WORK WITH EACH AND EVERY WORKERS COMP CLAIM AND TRY TO WORK THEM THROUGH THE PROCESS AND THEY REALLY HAVE COMPASSION FOR EVERY PERSON THAT GETS INJURED ON THE JOB.
THEN SOMETHING THAT MS. DENTON IS GOING TO TALK ABOUT LATER IS THEIR RETURN TO WORK PROGRAM, IS THAT THEY'RE AMAZING WITH WHAT THEY DO.
WHENEVER SOMEBODY IS READY TO COME BACK TO WORK, THEY MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO GET THEM BACK. ENERGY MANAGEMENT.
THE KEY WORDS HERE FOR THE ENERGY MANAGEMENT GUYS IS ATTENTION TO DETAIL.
I WOULD SAY ALL THIS IN MORE THAN ONE WORD SO IT'D BE OUR ATTENTION TO DETAIL THAT DIDN'T REALLY MAKE SENSE.
BUT I DO WANT TO INTRODUCE BOTH OF THEM.
WE HAVE KELLY CAMPBELL AND CHRIS MUNOZ. THEY'RE BACK THERE.
THEY ARE OUR ENERGY GURUS AND WHAT THEY DO ON A DAILY BASIS IS THEY'RE PERSISTENTLY MONITORING CRITICAL HIGH-ENERGY USE IN THE SYSTEMS IN OUR DISTRICT.
AGAIN, I WANT TO READ A COUPLE. LET ME BACK UP.
THE EFFORTS THAT THEY MAKE HAVE CHANGED THE BEHAVIORS AND THE CULTURE OF OUR ORGANIZATION.
WHAT THEY DO ON A DAILY BASIS OF GOING OUT AND TALKING TO PEOPLE ABOUT WHAT EXACTLY STEPS THAT CAN BE TAKEN TO SAVE ENERGY IMPACTS EVERYBODY.
THE THING THAT'S SO AWESOME ABOUT THEIR PROGRAM IS THAT IT'S EASILY PROMOTABLE TO ALL STAKE HOLDERS BECAUSE IT INVOLVES BOTH POSITIVE ENVIRONMENTAL AND FINANCIAL BENEFITS.
IF YOU LOOK UP IN THE RIGHT-HAND CORNER OF THIS SLIDE, THEY HAVE SIX DIFFERENT PRESENTATIONS THAT THEY DO TO KIDS.
THEY'RE IN THE CLASSROOMS DOING PRESENTATIONS SO THAT KIDS ARE UNDERSTANDING WHAT IT MEANS TO SAVE ENERGY.
THE RETURN ON INVESTMENT THAT THIS GROUP THAT THEY'VE BEEN ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH IS, THEY SAVE US IN COST AVOIDANCE OF ALMOST $1.7 MILLION EACH YEAR.
THEY EXTEND THE LIFE OF OUR EQUIPMENT BY REDUCING THE CAPITAL OUTLAY AND PROCUREMENT EXPENDITURES FOR THAT, THEY HAVE A POSITIVE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT BY DECREASING ELECTRICITY, NATURAL GAS, AND WATER CONSUMPTION.
THEN, IF YOU LOOK IN THE BOTTOM-LEFT, THIS SLIDE IS HARD TO IGNORE FOR AS FAR AS YOU CAN SEE THERE'S ENERGY STAR AWARDS.
THEY'VE BEEN GETTING US THE DISTRICT RECOGNITION ON THE NATIONAL LEVEL FOR YEARS AND YEARS NOW.
NOW LET ME TALK BRIEFLY, AND I WON'T TAKE TOO LONG ABOUT WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS IN EACH OF THESE AND WHAT THE CONCERNS ARE IN EACH OF THESE AREAS.
[01:20:04]
THE MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT.THE MOST ALARMING RISK THAT THEY HAVE RIGHT NOW WAS THERE ABSOLUTE GREATEST STRENGTH, AND IT'S THEIR YEARS OF EXPERIENCE THAT EACH OF THEIR TEAMS HAVE.
IF YOU LOOK HERE ON THE LEFT, THAT'S OUR MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT IN YEARS OF EXPERIENCE.
IF YOU CAN NOTICE, I'LL JUST SOME QUICK NUMBERS.
EIGHT-THREE PERCENT OF ALL OF THOSE PEOPLE HAVE OVER 10 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE, OVER HALF OF THEM HAVE 20 YEARS EXPERIENCE.
IF YOU LOOK TO THE RIGHT, THE HVAC DEPARTMENT, THEN IT BECOMES EVEN A LITTLE MORE ALARMING.
BUT YOU CAN SEE THAT 80 PERCENT OF ALL OUR HVAC EMPLOYEES RIGHT NOW HAVE MORE THAN 10, AND 60 PERCENT HAVE OVER 20 YEARS EXPERIENCE.
THE OTHER FACTOR THAT COMES INTO PLAY IN REGARD TO THIS IS RIGHT NOW THE INDUSTRY IS SO STRONG IN REGARD TO CONSTRUCTION THAT IF WE HAVE AN OPENING IN ANY OF THESE DIVISIONS, IT TAKES US NEARLY 10-12 MONTHS TO FILL THAT POSITION.
IT JUST THAT WE REALLY HAVE A STRUGGLE WITH BEING COMPETITIVE WITH THE MARKETS THAT ARE OUT THERE. I'LL GIVE YOU AN EXAMPLE.
ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE DID IS MARK SAID, OKAY, AND MR. BROGDEN SUPPORTED IT, IS WE'RE GOING TO GET YOUNG PEOPLE IN HERE THEN WE'RE GOING TO GET THEM THEIR LICENSES.
WE'RE GOING TO GET THEM THEIR CERTIFICATIONS THAT THEY NEED, WHETHER IT'D BEEN HVAC OR WHETHER IT BEING IN PLUMBING, OR WHETHER IT BEING IRRIGATION AND SO WE COMMITTED TO FINDING THEM A SCHOOL, PAYING FOR THEIR SCHOOL, HELPING THEM IN THE SCHOOL.
RIGHT NOW, ALL SIX OF THOSE, AS SOON AS WE GOT THEM CERTIFIED, GUESS WHAT THEY DID.
THEY LOOKED IN THE NEWSPAPER, THEY LOOKED ONLINE AND THEY FOUND A JOB THAT THEY COULD GO AND THEY COULD GET BETTER BENEFITS AND MAKE MORE MONEY AS SOON AS WE GOT THEM CERTIFIED.
RIGHT NOW WE'RE OVER SIX ON THAT.
IF YOU LOOK AT THE SECOND BULLET THERE, WHAT WE WANT TO TRY TO DO IN THE FUTURE IS THE APPRENTICE PROGRAM.
WHAT THAT WILL DO IS COMPLETELY 100 PERCENT UTILIZE THE EXPERIENCE TEAMS THAT WE HAVE.
BRING YOUNGER PEOPLE ONBOARD AND MAKE THEM APPRENTICE, BUT THEN PUT GOALS FOR THEM, FINANCIAL REWARD GOALS, SHORT TARGETS THAT THEY ACHIEVE SO THAT WE CAN KEEP THEM HERE.
THEN WHAT WE'D HAVE TO DO IS WE HAVE TO DO A MARKET STUDY OF HOW CAN WE COMPETE.
BUT WE HAVE TO BE ON TOP OF IT BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT GOING TO WAIT AROUND HERE FOREVER.
THE OTHER PART IS WE'RE LOOKING AT FLEXIBLE WORK SCHEDULES THIS SUMMER.
WE LET OUR GUYS DECIDE, DO YOU WANT TO WORK 4/10? DO YOU WANT TO WORK 5/8? DO YOU WANT SOME KIND OF HYBRID OF THAT? IN A 100 PERCENT OF THE PEOPLE IN SURVEYS WE GOT BACK, LOVE HAVING THE AUTHORITY, THE CONTROL OVER THEIR SCHEDULE AND SO THAT WAS GREAT.
BUT THE BOTTOM LINE IS THIS STAFF AND THEIR EXPERIENCE, THEY'RE NOT GOING TO BE HERE FOREVER.
AS WE BEGIN TO GET OPENINGS AND HAVE A HARD TIME FILLING THEM, THE ACCOUNTABILITY DATA FOR THAT DEPARTMENT IS GETTING INTO THE YELLOW FOR THE FIRST TIME THAT EVER HAS BECAUSE OF THOSE THINGS.
NOW, CUSTODIAL, I'LL TRY TO BE BRIEF.
I THINK I SUMMED IT UP PRETTY SIMPLY, THE CHALLENGES THAT THEY'RE GOING TO DEAL WITH IN THE FUTURE.
STAFFING. IN TODAY'S JOB MARKET, IT'S EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO ATTRACT PEOPLE TO PERFORM THE TASK THAT WE'RE ASKING THEM TO DO FOR CUSTODIANS.
THEY CAN GO ALMOST ANYWHERE ELSE AND NOT HAVE TO DO WHAT THEY HAVE TO DO AND MAKE MORE MONEY.
RIGHT NOW WE'RE CURRENTLY AT ABOUT 66 OPENINGS THAT OSCAR HAS TO COVER SOME TIME SOMEHOW EVERY DAY.
BUT HE'S STILL BEING CREATIVE EARLIER WE TALKED ABOUT CREATIVITY.
LET ME TELL YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT HE'S DOING.
SINCE IT'S LIMITED, OSCAR IS USING ANY AND EVERY TIME SEGMENT THAT HE HAS TO FILL THAT WITH ANYBODY THAT WANTS TO WORK IN.
HE'S USED BUS DRIVERS, HE'S USED I THINK SOME OF THE STUDENT NUTRITION THAT IF THEY CAN WORK, HE'LL TAKE ANYBODY.
IF THEY HAVE A FULL-TIME JOB OR NOT, THEN HE'LL PUT THEM TO WORK FOR A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF HOURS.
HE'S ALSO TRYING TO LOOK AT IF WE HAVE 18-YEAR-OLD STUDENTS THAT ARE IN SCHOOL AND GO TO SCHOOL DURING THE DAY, BUT WANT TO WORK THREE OR FOUR HOURS IN THE EVENINGS.
WE HAVE A PLACE THAT WE CAN GET THEM A JOB AND GET THEM SOMETHING TO DO.
HE'S TRYING TO EXTREMELY HARD TO CREATE AND IMPROVE THE MORALE.
[01:25:02]
HE'S GOING TO CREATE AN EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH, HEAD CUSTODIANS ARE GOING TO RECOMMEND PEOPLE AND THEN WE'RE GOING TO GET TO CELEBRATE THEM ACROSS THE DISTRICT FOR THEIR HARD WORK THEY'RE DOING.ONE THING THAT'S COME WITH THAT THOUGH, IS WHEN YOU HAVE YOUR EMPLOYEES WORKING LONGER HOURS AND WORKING HARDER, UNFORTUNATELY HIS WORKER COMP NUMBERS ARE GOING UP AS WELL AND SO HE'S TRYING TO WORK ON THAT.
LAST WE WANT TO TALK ABOUT RISK MANAGEMENT.
THEIR GOAL IS THEY WANT TO CONTINUE TO INCREASE TRAININGS AT THE CAMPUSES AND AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL, AND UNFORTUNATELY DEAL WITH THE SITUATION OF WORKERS COMP THEY KNOW WHAT TO DO NEXT, THEY KNOW WHAT THE STEPS ARE AND SO THAT THEY CAN BE SUCCESSFUL AND THEN THEY CAN GET TREATED WHEN THEY WANT TO.
THERE IS ONE AREA IN THE RISK-MANAGEMENT FUTURE THAT'S NOT EXACTLY THE MOST POSITIVE THING THAT'S GOING ON, IS THAT THE BACKBONE OF THE PROGRAM, MICHELLE TAYLOR HAS ANNOUNCED THAT SHE'S GOING TO BE RETIRING AT THIS END OF THIS SEMESTER.
WE'RE NOT SURE IF WE'RE GOING TO LET HER DO THAT OR NOT AND SO WE'RE WORKING ON THAT.
THE LAST ONE HERE IS ENERGY MANAGEMENT.
ENERGY MANAGEMENT WILL CONTINUE TO SHAPE HOW MISD LOOKS AT AN ADDRESSES COST-SAVINGS AND RELATE IT TO THE USE OF WATER AND ELECTRICITY.
THEY'RE SPENDING MONEY ON LED PROJECTS, PARKING LOTS, AND THAT MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO ENERGY, BUT ALSO IN SAFETY WHEN WE CAN LOCK THOSE PARKING LOTS UP AS BRAND AS WE CAN.
THEY HOPE TO EXPAND THEIR PROGRAM BEYOND JUST THE SCHOOL DISTRICT CRAWLS AND REACH TO EVEN MORE PEOPLE. QUESTIONS?
>> THANK YOU. TRUSTEES, DID YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? OH, MS. ANDERSON.
I HADN'T JUST A QUESTION ON WHICH, BY THE WAY, REALLY LOVE ALL THE IDEAS FROM MENTORS AND HAVING DIFFERENT APPRENTICES, ETC.
I JUST HAD A QUICK QUESTION THEY MIGHT NOT HAVE AN ANSWER YET.
BUT HAVE WE THOUGHT ABOUT MAYBE WITH SOME OF THE, EVEN THOUGH WE'RE REALLY STAFFING IS LOW ON CUSTODIAL, HAVE WE THOUGHT ABOUT MAYBE CROSS POLLINATING ANY TYPE OF WAY.
SOME OF THE CUSTODIAL MAYBE STARTING TO LEARN HVAC OR FACILITIES.
I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S POSSIBLE, BUT I WAS JUST THINKING IF THEY SAW THAT THERE COULD BE MOVEMENT WITHIN THE ORGANIZATION, MAYBE THEY MIGHT STAY LONGER. I DON'T KNOW.
>> ABSOLUTELY. WE COULD USE THAT AS A RECRUITMENT TOOL FOR PEOPLE THAT ARE INTERESTED IN DOING THOSE JOBS.
WE HAD DONE THAT IN OTHER, AND I KNOW MS. DENTON PROBABLY TALK ABOUT THAT LATER.
THAT WE'VE DONE THAT BETWEEN TRANSPORTATION, STUDENT NUTRITION, THAT THEY CROSS POLLINATED.
THAT IS ABSOLUTELY SOMETHING WE CAN LOOK AT.
>> AWESOME. I JUST DIDN'T KNOW IF THE OTHER STEP IS THEY WORK TWO DAYS HERE IS GOING BACK TO THAT FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE WHICH I'VE HEARD IS ACTUALLY MAXIMIZING A LOT OF COMPANIES IN RETAINMENT.
KUDOS TO YOU ALL. THANK YOU SO MUCH AGAIN.
>> I JUST WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU FOR THE PRESENTATION AND VERY CREATIVE THINKING OF OSCAR ON TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO FILL THOSE STAFFING HOLES.
I KNOW IT'S CHALLENGING, SO I APPRECIATE IT, AND SHELLEY, WE'RE GOING TO HATE TO SEE YOU GO.
WE'RE GOING TO MISS YOU. BUT CONGRATULATIONS.
THANK YOU FOR THE PRESENTATION. GREAT JOB.
>> YES, THANK YOU TO YOUR ENTIRE TEAM STAFF.
SEVERAL OF THE GUYS ARE HERE, I KNOW AND THEN SOME ARE NOT.
I'M REMINDED WHEN I SAW THE PICTURES OF THE BRAND-NEW PRETTY, SUMMIT HIGH SCHOOL, THAT I WAS SO EXCITED ABOUT, AND THEN THAT STORM HIT, AND I WAS JUST DEVASTATED.
I KNOW I WAS NOT THE ONLY PERSON BY FAR.
BUT YOUR TEAM JUST GOT IN THERE, AND IT'S LIKE IT NEVER HAPPENED [LAUGHTER]. IT WAS JUST WONDERFUL.
>> WELL, THAT'S THE BEAUTY OF IT, IS THE MAINTENANCE TEAM, AND CUSTODIAL AND ANYBODY ELSE IN THE DISTRICT THAT COULD HELP, IS THE PEOPLE THAT SHOWED UP ON MONDAY MORNING NEVER KNEW THAT ANYTHING HAD HAPPENED.
IN SOME OF THE CASES NOW, TARVER-RENDON, THEY STILL KNEW THAT SOMETHING HAD HAPPENED, BUT IT WAS COMMITMENT, DEDICATION REALLY IS WHAT MADE THAT HAPPEN.
>> IT'S TRUE. I'D EVEN FORGOTTEN HOW DEVASTATED WE ALL WERE AND THAT UNTIL TONIGHT.
THANKS. NO, I'M KIDDING [LAUGHTER].
BUT THANK YOU AGAIN, AND THANKS TO YOUR ENTIRE TEAM.
WE APPRECIATE ALL THAT YOU'RE DOING.
[01:30:02]
THE 2021-22 FACILITIES AND OPERATIONS REPORT.>> YES. I SEE MS. DENTON IS MAKING HER WAY TO THE PODIUM AND I'LL TURN IT OVER TO YOU MS. DENTON TO GIVE YOUR AMAZING REPORT.
>> GOOD EVENING, PRESIDENT WILSON, DR. CANTU, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.
I AM PLEASED TO BRING YOU THE ANNUAL FACILITIES REPORT TONIGHT.
YOU WILL HAVE EQUAL PARTS REALLY OF LITTLE KNOWN AND FUN FACTS ABOUT THE DEPARTMENTS ALONG WITH OUR METRICS, AND REALLY OUR LAG DATA.
HOW DID WE DO LAST YEAR, AND OUR GOALS? AS A REFRESHER, LET ME GO THROUGH THE DEPARTMENTS THAT ARE IN OUR DIVISION.
THE CENTER FOR PERFORMING ARTS LED BY FLO TORRES, THE MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT LED BY MARK WILLIAMSON, THE TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT LED BY CTO CHANTE COHEN, AND AS A REMINDER, HER REPORT IS SEPARATED AND YOU'LL HEAR THAT SEPARATE FROM THIS EVENING.
THE ENERGY MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT LED BY KELLY CAMPBELL AND CHRIS MUNOZ, THE RISK MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT LED BY SHELLEY TAYLOR, THE BOND MANAGEMENT PROGRAM LED BY SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER, GARY WALKER.
ALSO AS A REMINDER, THAT REPORT IS GIVEN SEPARATELY, WHICH YOU HEARD EARLIER THIS EVENING.
THE CUSTODIAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT LED BY OSCAR BARBOUR, STUDENT NUTRITION DEPARTMENT LED BY MYSELF, SANDRA THOMAS, AND JENNIFER PARHAM, AND THE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT LED BY DAVID WALKER AND JENNIFER BRYANT.
MANY OF THESE LEADERS ARE HERE TONIGHT.
YOU GUYS ALL GIVE A WAVE. AWESOME TEAM.
IT'S ALSO SHELLEY TAYLOR'S BIRTHDAY, ALONG WITH RETIREMENT, TONIGHT IS HER BIRTHDAY [APPLAUSE].
A LITTLE OVERVIEW OF OUR SPACE THAT WE MANAGE.
WE HAVE A LITTLE OVER SEVEN MILLION SQUARE FEET OF TOTAL BUILDING AREA.
WE ALSO HAVE 900 ACRES OF PROPERTY THAT WE MAINTAIN.
SO SPEAKING OF THE PROPERTY AND THE GROUNDS.
WE ALWAYS LIKE TO GIVE A MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL SUMMARY EVERY YEAR.
USUALLY, IN MOST YEARS THAT FAR RIGHT COLUMN OF VACANCIES IS A LOT LESS POPULATED THERE.
THIS YEAR FOR THE FIRST TIME, WE HAVE QUITE A FEW VACANCIES AS YOU SEE.
IF YOU'LL HONE IN ON THAT BOTTOM ROW OF THE CHART, YOU'LL SEE THAT WE'RE AT 10 PERCENT VACANCIES IN THIS DEPARTMENT.
I WILL SAY THERE IS AN UPDATE, WE HAVE HIRED AN AMAZING ELECTRICIAN, SO THAT TAKES OFTEN ONE ON THAT NUMBERS.
NO OPENINGS ON THE ELECTRICAL, AND THAT HAS BEEN SINCE THIS WAS PUBLISHED.
THAT BEING SAID, ALTHOUGH THAT DOES CAUSE CHALLENGES IN HIS OPERATION RIGHT NOW WHILE WE DO RECRUIT, THIS IS A FUN FACT THAT THIS DEDICATED GROUP HAS GIVEN 762 YEARS OF COMBINED SERVICE TO MISD.
VERY IMPRESSIVE, AND IT'S BECAUSE OF THAT EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO CRUSH GOALS.
HIS FIRST GOAL THAT HE GOES AFTER IS THE PERCENTAGE OF TOTAL WORK HOURS THAT THEY COMPLETE WITHIN FIVE BUSINESS DAYS.
HE SETS IT THE FOURTH TO DO 79 PERCENT OF THEM, AND LAST YEAR THEY DID 80 PERCENT.
HIS OTHER GOAL THAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT, IS THE PERCENTAGE OF PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE HOURS.
HE GOES FOR 23.5 PERCENT AND THEY EXCEEDED THAT AT 23.8 PERCENT.
FALLING INTO RISK MANAGEMENT FROM SHELLEY TAYLOR, I DO WANT TO HIGHLIGHT SOME OF HER COOL INITIATIVES.
THEY HAVE BEEN WORKING REALLY HARD OVER THE YEARS TO PUT TOGETHER THE RETURN TO WORK PROGRAM.
THIS ALLOWS WORKERS WHO ARE UNABLE TO PERFORM THEIR NORMAL WORK DUTIES TO COME BACK IN A LIGHT DUTY OR MODIFIED CAPACITY.
THERE'S MANY BENEFITS TO THAT.
IT INCREASES THEIR OWN MORALE, OF COURSE, AND THERE SENSE OF JOB SECURITY, IT DEFINITELY HELPS THEM FINANCIALLY WITH THEIR NORMAL PAYCHECK.
AT THE SAME TIME IT'S INCREASING THEIR COWORKERS MORAL BECAUSE IT'S ALWAYS GREAT TO GET YOUR COWORKER BACK QUICKER.
THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT THE RISK MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT SETS OUT TO DO.
IT ALSO PRESERVES THE PRODUCTIVITY WITHIN OUR DIVISIONS, WHETHER IT'S AUXILIARY OR PROFESSIONAL SIDE, PARAPROFESSIONAL WITHIN THE CAMPUSES.
REMEMBER, THEY WORK WITH THE WHOLE DISTRICT.
TO PRESERVE THAT PRODUCTIVITY IT REALLY IMPACTS OUR STUDENTS.
THEN, IT ULTIMATELY IMPACTS OUR CLAIM COSTS, WHICH OF COURSE, IMPACTS OUR BOTTOM LINE.
IT'S VERY IMPORTANT THE WORK THAT THEY DO WITH THE RETURN TO WORK PROGRAM, AND IT MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE LAST YEAR, EVEN THOUGH WE HAD AN UNEXPECTED EVENT, SHE SETS FORTH TO DO $ 600,000 OR HOPEFULLY LESS OF THAT FOR MEDICAL CLAIMS. THEY WERE WITHIN THE GREEN RANGE.
THEY WERE WITHIN AN ACCEPTABLE RANGE, JUST A TOUCH OVER, 600,000 LAST YEAR, SO VERY GREAT WORK.
THE CENTER FOR PERFORMING ARTS, OF COURSE, THIS BEAUTIFUL BUILDING THAT WE'RE IN.
OF COURSE, SHE HAD A PRESENTATION EARLIER THIS EVENING WHERE YOU LEARNED A LOT ABOUT THE TOYS FOR TOTS PROGRAM AND HOW WE ARE AN OFFICIAL CHAPTER NOW.
[01:35:01]
SAVE THE DATE FOR SURE FOR WONDERFALL, AND THAT IS ON OCTOBER 22.MAKE SURE THAT'S ON YOUR CALENDAR OR DID YOU KNOW FACT HERE IS THAT THE FIRST ANNUAL WONDERFUL WAS JUST LAST YEAR.
THAT WAS REALLY DESIGNED TO GET COMMUNITY MEMBERS TOGETHER FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE THE PANDEMIC.
THAT FIRST FACE-TO-FACE, WE HAD AN AMAZING BACK-TO-SCHOOL BASH BY MR. WILLIAMS WHO STEPPED OUT.
THEN, AFTER THAT [INAUDIBLE] WAS SO DETERMINED TO GET THE COMMUNITY TOGETHER AND LAUGHING.
IT WAS SUCH A GREAT EVENT THAT SHE'S BRINGING IT BACK THIS YEAR.
I JUST LOVE THAT IMAGE OF ALL OF OUR TOYS WITH OUR BEAUTIFUL SUNSET.
FLORES GOAL, HER NUMBER 1 GOAL IS FOR SURE TO SET FORTH TO MAKE SURE 25 PERCENT OF EVENTS ARE FOCUSED AROUND MISD FINE ARTS.
SHE CRUSHED THAT GOAL AT 51 PERCENT LAST YEAR.
MOVING INTO ENERGY CONSERVATION OFFICE, WANT TO DEFINITELY SHARED THIS PROJECT THAT THEY HAVE WORKED ON, SHED SOME LIGHT ON IT, IF YOU WILL.
LAST MAY, THESE TWO GENTLEMEN COORDINATED A PROJECT TO REPLACE ALL EXTERIOR LIGHTING AT LEGACY HIGH SCHOOL TO MATCH SOME OF OUR OTHER HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE DISTRICT AND THEY WERE GOING TO PUT AN LED FIXTURES.
THE NEW LIGHTS REQUIRE LESS MAINTENANCE.
THEY'RE LESS EXPENSIVE AS FAR AS OUR UTILITY BILLS, AND THEY PROVIDE A GREATER LEVEL OF SECURITY AND SAFETY FOR OUR STAFF AND FOR OUR STUDENTS.
THE NEAT FACT ABOUT THIS IS THAT THEY RECEIVED A GRANT FROM THE STATE ENERGY CONSERVATION OFFICE THAT PROVIDED 80 PERCENT REIMBURSEMENT ON THE PROJECT RIGHT OUT OF THE GATES, AND SO THEY HAVE ALREADY PAID OFF THIS PROJECT IN JUST FOUR MONTHS THROUGH THE REDUCED ENERGY USAGE.
FANTASTIC JOB. THAT IS KELLY AND CHRIS UP THERE IN THAT LEFT CHECKING IT OUT.
MOVING IT INTO THEIR GOALS, THEY ALSO EXCEEDED THEIR GOALS, 22.1 PERCENT THAT THEY REDUCED THEIR ENERGY CONSUMPTION DISTRICT-WIDE.
THEY HAD SET OUT FOR AT LEAST 20 PERCENT AND THAT'S REALLY THEIR GOAL EACH YEAR, AND THAT'S WONDERFUL TREND DATA THAT YOU SEE YEAR AFTER A YEAR OF THEM EXCEEDING THEIR GOALS.
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT CUSTODIAL SERVICES.
WE DO RECRUIT, AND AS DR. CASH TALKED ABOUT, WE'RE GETTING REAL CREATIVE TO COVER THAT VOID.
WE DEDUCE CLEAN 60 BUILDINGS EVERY DAY AND THAT'S 6.5 MILLION SQUARE FEET OF CLEANING SPACE, AND DID YOU KNOW THAT INCLUDES 2,823 CLASSROOMS. IT'S A NEAT STAT THERE.
THAT IS NOT AN EASY TASK, BUT IT'S POSSIBLE BECAUSE THEY HAVE REALLY LOYAL AND DEDICATED EMPLOYEES.
DID YOU KNOW THAT WE HAVE 19 INDIVIDUALS IN THIS DEPARTMENT THAT HAVE WORKED HERE FOR AT LEAST 20 YEARS, AND WE HAVE 22 EMPLOYEES IN THIS DEPARTMENT THAT HAVE WORKED HERE FOR 15 OR MORE? SEVENTY-EIGHT INDIVIDUALS HAVE WORKED HERE FOR 10 OR MORE, AND 58 OF THEM HAVE WORKED HERE FOR FIVE OR MORE YEARS.
THEY ARE SUPER LOYAL AND DEDICATED AND THAT LEADS TO GREAT RESULTS.
LAST YEAR, HE SAID AN AGGRESSIVE GOAL FOR 7.75 PERCENT OF THE WORKFORCE OR LESS, HOPEFULLY LESS, L WOULD EXPERIENCE MEDICAL CLAIMS, AND THEY DID AMAZING AT UNDER SIX PERCENT.
THIS GOAL GOES HAND IN HAND WITH THAT FIRST ONE, HE WANTED TO PROVIDE 2150 HOURS OF SAFETY TRAINING, WELL SURPASS THAT AT ALMOST 2800 HOURS.
MOVING INTO STUDENT NUTRITION.
THESE ARE OUR CURRENT STATS AS FAR AS OUR NUMBER OF LUNCH MEALS AND OUR BREAKFAST MEALS THAT WE SERVE EVERY DAY.
A TOUCH OVER 20,000 LUNCH MEALS DISTRICTWIDE, AND A LITTLE LESS THAN 6,000 BREAKFAST MEALS EVERY DAY.
YOU MAY WONDER HOW DOES THIS COMPARE TO WHEN WE WERE DOING FREE MEALS FOR ALL, WHICH WAS PUT FORTH BY THE USDA, AND OF COURSE, NOT EXTENDED THIS SCHOOL YEAR.
THOSE NUMBERS ARE LOWER, BUT SURPRISINGLY, NOT MUCH LOWER.
MAYBE A LITTLE OVER A THOUSAND LESS AT LUNCH.
BREAKFAST WELL SURPASSES WHAT WE WERE DOING PRE PANDEMIC BACK IN 2019.
THAT FEELS LIKE FOREVER AGO, DOESN'T IT? THAT IS A GREAT TESTAMENT TO OUR GREAT FOOD, OUR FRIENDLY SERVICE.
WE FEEL LIKE THE FREE MEALS FOR ALL PERIOD REALLY ALLOWED FAMILIES TO TRY OUR SERVICES AT NO RISK.
THAT THEY COULD ALMOST TRY IT, JUST NO STRINGS ATTACHED, AND WE THINK WE GOT OURSELVES SOME NEW CUSTOMERS FROM THOSE TIMES, WHICH IS GREAT.
DID YOU KNOW THAT WE HAVE NOW A VEGETARIAN ENTREE AT EVERY MEAL PERIOD, AT EVERY GRADE LEVEL, AT EVERY CAMPUS OF MANSFIELD ISD, EVERY DAY.
THAT HAS TAKEN SOME TIME TO GET UP TO THAT AND WE'RE VERY PROUD.
THE DEMAND FOR SUCH HAS GONE UP EVERY SINGLE YEAR.
WE GET MORE REQUESTS FOR THAT.
WE'RE HAPPY TO NOW HAVE THAT AND THAT WILL REMAIN AS A STANDARD WITHIN OUR MENU.
[01:40:05]
SINCE WE HAVE REALLY GOTTEN OVER THE HUMP WITH THE PANDEMIC, WE'RE SO EXCITED TO WELCOME BACK OUR COMMUNITY AND OUR PARENTS TO EVENTS LIKE OUR THANKSGIVING FEAST THAT ARE COMING UP OR TRY SOMETHING NEW PROGRAM IS REALLY BACK BIGGER THAN EVER.WE STILL CONTINUED IT THROUGH THE PANDEMIC BUT NOW IT'S BACK IN ITS REGULAR FORMAT.
OUR AMAZING MENU COORDINATOR HAS DEEMED THIS YEAR AFTER SUPER FOODS.
THIS VERY WEEK, SHE HAS SPRINKLED AVOCADO ALL THE WAY THROUGH, EVEN FROM OUR PRE-K BABIES ALL THE WAY TO HIGH SCHOOL.
THE SPRINKLE IN THROUGH THIS WEEK IS AVOCADO.
AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE BOTTOM LEFT, OUR SELF-SERVICE STATIONS ARE SLOWLY COMING BACK AS STAFFING ALLOWS.
WE'RE BACK WITH OUR GARNISH BARS, OUR CONDIMENT BARS.
WE KNOW THAT WHEN KIDS ARE ABLE TO COMPLETE THEIR PLATE AND CUSTOMIZE THEIR PLATE, THEY CONSUME IT MUCH BETTER.
WE'RE EXCITED TO SEE THOSE ROLL BACK OUT.
THEN LAST BUT NOT LEAST, OUR BULK MILK INITIATIVE IS SOMETHING WE STARTED RIGHT BEFORE THE PANDEMIC.
IT WAS WILDLY SUCCESSFUL AND IT HAD TO BE PLACED ON PAUSE. IT IS BACK.
STARTING THE FIRST DAY OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, WE ROLLED THAT OUT BACK OUT AT MARY G SHEPHERD AND THEN IT'S DEBUTING AT MCKINZEY MIDDLE SCHOOL TO TEST IT WITH OUR OLDER KID POPULATION.
THE MILK COMES OUT SO ICE COLD AND IT TASTES BETTER, AND IT OFFERS TREMENDOUS SAVINGS FOR THE DISTRICT.
OUR MEAL PARTICIPATION, WE DID SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT LAST YEAR SINCE IT WAS THE FREE-MEALS-FOR-ALL.
WE SET OUR GOAL BASED ON THE AVERAGE DAILY PARTICIPATION.
WE WANTED TO SERVE 70 PERCENT OF ENROLLMENT AND WE ACTUALLY SERVED 74 PERCENT. AMAZING WORK.
OUR FOOD COST MARGIN, WE STUCK WITH OUR GOAL TO BE OUR NORMAL 43 PERCENT.
AS YOU WILL SEE, WE EXCEEDED THAT COMING IN AT 32 PERCENT.
IT HAS NEVER BEEN SO CONSISTENT AND SO LOW.
THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND THAT IS THE WAY WE HAD TO STREAMLINE OUR MENUS TO ACCOMMODATE OUR SHORTFALL IN STAFFING, THAT IS.
WHAT WE FOUND IS WE STILL GOT TO MENU ALL OF THE KIDS FAVORITES, BUT JUST IN A DIFFERENT WAY, SPREAD OUT THROUGH THE MONTH IN A MUCH MORE STREAMLINED FASHION.
IT ACTUALLY REDUCED OUR WASTE.
IT'S A STRATEGY THAT WE WILL CONTINUE IN THE FUTURE IN ORDER TO CONTINUE OUR HIGH-QUALITY INGREDIENTS.
IT ALSO HAS CLEARED UP SPACE FOR RISING COSTS IN OTHER AREAS; PAPER GOODS, CHEMICALS, EQUIPMENT.
ALL OF THOSE AREAS HAVE INCREASING COSTS, LABOR, OF COURSE.
SOME FUN FACTS ABOUT TRANSPORTATION AS WE SHIFT GEARS INTO TRANSPORTATION.
WE HAVE 8,800- YOU SEE WHAT I DID THERE? IT WAS GOOD. [LAUGHTER] WE HAVE OVER 8,800 BUS STOPS.
IN OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT, WE HAVE 344 REGULAR ROUTES.
WE DERIVE OVER 2.9 MILLION MILES IN A GIVEN YEAR, AND WE HAVE FIVE MILLION PASSENGERS ON OUR SCHOOL BUSES.
LAST YEAR THEY STOOD BEFORE YOU TO LET YOU KNOW THAT THEY WOULD BE ROLLING OUT A NEW PARENT APP.
ONE YEAR LATER, WE'RE REALLY GLAD TO SAY THAT THAT HAS SUCCESSFULLY LAUNCHED.
IT IS IN EVERYBODY'S HANDS AT THIS POINT, PARENTS AND CAMPUSES ALIKE HAVE ACCESS TO TRACK BUSES.
THEY CAN SET CUSTOMIZED ALERT ZONES.
IT HAS IMPROVED EFFICIENCIES AS FAR AS LOADING STUDENTS AT CAMPUSES AND IT GIVES MOMS AND DADS PEACE OF MIND AS THEY'RE ABLE TO FOLLOW THE BUS ON THEIR PHONE.
IT ALSO OFFERS A REALLY COOL MESSAGING FEATURE.
DID YOU KNOW THAT OVER 6,700 PARENTS HAVE SUBSCRIBED SO FAR? THAT IS A GREAT SIGN OF SUCCESS.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT FOR THAT GREAT ROLLOUT.
AS FAR AS THEIR NUMBER ONE GOAL, DAVID WALKER GOES AFTER A LESS THAN 12 PERCENT OF HIS BUSES THAT HE WANTS OUT OF SERVICE DAILY.
THAT'S BASED ON AN INDUSTRY-STANDARD GOAL.
AS YOU CAN SEE, WE DID NOT HIT THAT THIS PAST SCHOOL YEAR, NOT ANY SINGLE MONTH.
AT THE END OF THE DAY, WE NEED MORE BUSES, NEW BUSES.
IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE NUMBER OF BUSES THAT ARE 10 YEARS OR OLDER, OR EQUIVITABLE MILES IS 167, AND THEN WE ALSO HAVE 52 BUSES THAT ARE 15 YEARS OF AGE OR 200,000 MILES.
THAT'S A LOT OF AGING. WE HAVE AN AGING FLEET AT THE END OF THE DAY, AND SO THAT WAS THE REASON FOR NOT MEETING THE GOAL.
HE IS BUYING BUSES TO CORRECT THAT ISSUE. ANY QUESTIONS?
>> THAT'S A LOT OF INFORMATION. [LAUGHTER]
TRUSTEES, ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS? MS. THOMAS.
>> I JUST HAVE A QUESTION- [OVERLAPPING]
>> - IN REFERENCE TO THE BUSES. WHEN YOU HAVE ONE THAT GOES OUT, WHAT IS THE DYNAMICS OF GETTING THAT TAKEN CARE OF? DO YOU NOTIFY THE PARENTS ON THE PORTAL THAT THAT BUS MIGHT BE LATE?
[01:45:03]
HOW DOES THAT WORK? BECAUSE I KNOW THAT WAS A QUESTION THAT I'VE HAD WITH A LOT OF PARENTS.>> WHAT THE APP ALLOWS US TO DO THAT IS ONE, IF THERE'S A SUBSTITUTION FOR A BUS, LET'S SAY BUS 237, THE BATTERY WON'T START AND SO THEY HAVE TO SUBSTITUTE THE BUS, THEY DO HAVE THE ABILITY TO SEND A MESSAGE TO THE PARENTS THAT ARE ON THAT BUS, THAT YES, WE HAVE A SUBSTITUTION.
ALSO, IF A BUS IS RUNNING LATE, THEN THEY HAVE THE ABILITY TO SAY THE BUS IS DELAYED AS WELL.
YES, THE BUS MESSAGING IS THERE, BUT IT'S ONLY AS GOOD AS THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAT ARE SUBSCRIBING TO IT.
>> IF YOUR CHILD RIDES THE BUS, IT'S GOOD TO BE ON THAT PORTAL IS WHAT I'M HEARING YOU SAY.
>> ANYMORE QUESTION? MISS MASON?
>> I HAD A QUICK QUESTION ABOUT BUSES BECAUSE I KNOW IT'S BEEN SEVERAL YEARS SINCE WE BOUGHT A LARGE AMOUNT OF BUSES, BUT THERE'S CHANGES IN THE REQUIREMENTS FOR BUSES AND WHAT THEY HAVE TO HAVE AND THINGS LIKE THAT, I THOUGHT MAYBE THAT WOULD BE IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO SHARE SO THAT WE'RE ACTUALLY GETTING BUSES.
>> UP TO PAR WITH WHAT THE STANDARDS AND EXPECTATIONS ARE FROM A SAFETY PERSPECTIVE.
>> DAVID WALKER. [LAUGHTER]. [APPLAUSE]
>> MS. [INAUDIBLE], REPEAT THE QUESTION?
>> SURE. I KNOW THAT THERE HAS BEEN SOME CHANGING STANDARDS FOR BUSES OVER THE YEARS IN THE LAST RECENT YEARS, AND SO I JUST WANTED TO TALK ABOUT THAT BECAUSE I KNOW THAT PART OF THE REASON WHY IT'S IMPORTANT FOR US TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE MORE BUSES IMPROVED BUSES, NEWER BUSES AND OUR FLEET IS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE MEETING THOSE STANDARDS AND REQUIREMENTS, SO IF YOU COULD TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT THOSE ARE.
>> WELL, ANY STANDARD IN A MINIBUS THAT IS BARTON STATE OF TEXAS IS THROUGH STATUTE AND MY STATE SPECS.
ONE, THERE'S INDUSTRY STANDARDS THAT ARE ACROSS THE BOARD THAT WOULD COME FROM FEDERAL CRITERIA, BUT ALSO THE STATE OF TEXAS SETS STANDARDS ON WHAT A BUS SPEC IS.
THAT'S UNIVERSAL ACROSS THE BOARD FOR ANY BUS THAT IS PURCHASED WITHIN THE STATE OF TEXAS.
NOW WHETHER THERE ARE ADDITIONAL THINGS THAT WE DO HERE IN MANSFIELD ISD, THINGS LIKE BACKUP CAMERAS THAT WE PUT ON OUR BUSES.
WE PUT WARNING SIGN FROM THE BACK OF OUR BUSES, OUR LED DIGITAL THAT LETS YOU KNOW THAT THE BUS IS STOPPING.
WE DID USE TO HAVE A LIGHTING SYSTEM IN THE TAIL LIGHTS, BUT THE STATE SAID THAT WE CAN'T DO THAT BECAUSE IT DOESN'T MEET THE DEFINITION OF A GLOWING LAMPS, SO WE HAD TO DISCONNECT THOSE, BUT WE'VE DONE THOSE WITH AND SAME THING WITH OUR CAMERAS SYSTEMS. WE WERE ADDING ENHANCED CAMERAS SYSTEMS IN THE BUSES, INCLUDING CAMERAS THAT VIEW OUTSIDE THE BUSES AND WITHIN THAT TOO, WE'RE UPGRADING THE CAMERAS SYSTEMS WITH UNITS THAT PROVIDE US BETTER QUALITY VIDEO, MORE RELIABLE, EASIER ACCESS, AND THERE'S SEVERAL THINGS LIKE THAT WE'RE CHOOSING AS A DEPARTMENT TO INSTALL ON OUR BUSES THAT ARE NOT PART OF STATES SPEC, THAT'S JUST SOMETHING THAT WE DO.
>> THANK YOU FOR SHARING. I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THE PUBLIC REALLY UNDERSTAND SO HIGH STANDARDS WE HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF KIDS WHILE THEY'RE BEING TRANSPORTED BACK AND FORTH INTO EVENTS AND THINGS LIKE THAT.
IT'S NOT SOMETHING THAT WE TAKE LIGHTLY.
THEN YOU GUYS HAVE CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY.
THE APP IS AN EXAMPLE, BUT ALL OF THOSE THINGS THAT YOU LISTED.
THANK YOU BECAUSE I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY UNDERSTAND HOW IMPORTANT THAT IS TO THE TEAM.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INFORMATION.
>> ANYMORE QUESTIONS ON THIS MS. FARRAR?
>> I DON'T HAVE ANY QUESTIONS SPECIFICALLY.
I JUST WANTED TO THANK YOU FOR SHARING ALL THE INFORMATION.
I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TO REMIND US IN THE COMMUNITY JUST HOW CRITICAL ALL THESE SYSTEMS ARE TO MAKE OUR SCHOOLS RUN EFFICIENTLY EVERY SINGLE DAY.
I KNOW SOMETIMES I DROP MY KIDS OFF AT SCHOOL AND FORGET THAT THERE'S SO MANY DIFFERENT COMPONENTS TO MAKE THE SCHOOL THEY RUN EVERY SINGLE DAY, AND SO JUST THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH FOR EVERY DEPARTMENT AND ALL THE WORK YOU PUT IN TO MAKE EVERYDAY MEANINGFUL IN OUR COMMUNITY. THANK YOU.
>> THANK YOU. ANY TRUSTEES ON THIS SIDE, MS. ANDERSON.
>> I JUST WANT TO [INAUDIBLE] AS WELL, BUT A FEW THINGS THAT I THINK PEOPLE PROBABLY DON'T KNOW AND THAT IS FOR MAINTENANCE AND FACILITIES.
THEY WORK HARD EVEN ON THE WEEKENDS, WE'LL FIND SMALL THINGS THAT HAVE HAPPENED, THAT THEY GO OUT THERE AND MAKE SURE THAT OUR SCHOOLS ARE BACK TO WHERE THEY SHOULD BE FOR OUR KIDS TO WALK IN THEM.
THEN YOU HAVE STUDENT NUTRITION, WHICH I CAN TELL YOU MY KIDS DEFINITELY WANTED TO BUY LUNCH EVERY DAY THIS YEAR, WHICH I HAVE TO PUT A LITTLE STOP TO IT, SO YOU DEFINITELY HAVE GAINED LOTS.
>> THANK YOU FOR THE BUSINESS. [LAUGHTER]
>> BUT NOT ONLY THAT, BUT YOU ALSO GO ABOVE AND BEYOND WORKING WITH LOCAL PTSAS,
[01:50:04]
MAKING SURE THAT YOU'RE HELPING IN ANY SINGLE WAY THAT YOU CAN.I'VE WITNESSED THAT FIRSTHAND AND WE THANK YOU.
TO TRANSPORTATION I USE THAT BUS APP EVERY WEEK WITH MY KID.
SHE GETS MOTION SICKNESS ON IT AND I DIDN'T FEEL LIKE I'M ACTUALLY GIVING HER DRUGS EVERY DAY, WHICH IS A DRAMAMINE.
I WATCH IT VERY CLOSELY AND IT IS SUPERB AND I'VE GOTTEN SO MANY OF OUR FRIENDS ON IT THAT THEY HAVE NO COMPLAINTS.
AT SOME POINT IN TIME I WAS THINKING I EVEN TEXTED DR. COURTNEY, I THINK WE'RE GOING TO GET COMPLAINTS TODAY FOR THIS OR THAT.
THEN I POINTED THEM TO THE APP.. NOT ONE WE DIDN'T GET ONE EMAIL.
I APPRECIATE YOU ALL'S DEPARTMENT FROM ENERGY, I CANNOT TELL YOU HANDS DOWN IT MAKES MORE CRASS. THANK YOU.
>> THANK YOU. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE, MR. DAVIS?
>> TEAM, THANK YOU [NOISE] FOR THE PRESENTATION, ECHOING THE POINTS THAT I WON'T BELABOR AN ECHO THE POINTS I'VE ALREADY BEEN MADE.
JUST A QUICK QUESTION IN TERMS OF HOW CAN WE LEVERAGE THE DISTRICT RESOURCES TO BETTER SUPPORT, SO CASING POINT, THE PORTAL, WHAT APP IS GREAT FOR OUR PARENTS OF KIDS WHO ARE STILL THE AGE OF THE RIDING THE BUSES ARE WE PARTNERING WITH MR. WILLIAMS AND HIS TEAM TO MAYBE GET THAT OUT IN SOME DIFFERENT WAYS TO DRIVE UP? WHEN I SEE 6,700, I'M REALLY EXCITED FOR FIRST A YEAR LAUNCH.
THEN I HAVE A LITTLE PAUSE WHEN I CONSIDER HOW MANY MORE STUDENTS ARE POTENTIALLY PARENTS THAT ARE STILL POTENTIALLY OUT THERE AND AS PART OF THAT, HOW ARE WE COMMUNICATING AND PARTICULARLY MAYBE TO PARENTS WHO ENGLISH IS NOT THEIR PRIMARY LANGUAGE WAYS OF LEVERAGING THEIR TECHNOLOGY AS WELL.
I'LL PAUSE WITH THAT QUESTION AND THEN I'LL COME BACK WITH A SECOND.
>> YES. THOSE ARE ALL AVENUES THAT WE DO EXPLORE AND WE'RE PASSIONATE ABOUT GETTING THE WORD OUT.
THERE'S ABOUT 10,000 STUDENTS RIDERSHIP EVERY DAY. IS THAT RIGHT? GIVE OR TAKE? WHAT I'M TRYING TO GET OUT THERE IS THAT IT'S NOT THE WHOLE ENROLLMENT THAT IS RIDING A BUS.
BUT THERE ARE MANY MORE EARS THAT NEEDS TO HEAR AND KNOW ABOUT THE APP, AND SO GETTING IT IN THE DIFFERENT LANGUAGES AND GETTING THE WORD OUT IS SOMETHING WE'RE PASSIONATE ABOUT, SO WE APPRECIATE THAT.
>> THEN SECONDLY, MAYBE THIS IS NOT FOR THIS MEETING.
BUT I CAN MAKE IT A LITTLE BIT ADVANCED REQUEST, THAT MAYBE AT THE NEXT BOARD MEETING WE CAN HEAR A LITTLE BIT OF MORE ABOUT BUS STAFFING PLAN.
IT'S NOT FAIR TO JUST GO AT NIGHT AND ASK ABOUT SOMETHING IN GREATER DETAIL.
BUT WHAT WE'RE HEARING IS A THEME A LITTLE BIT THROUGHOUT.
NOW I'M AN HR GUY SPECIFICALLY CHARGED WITH RECRUITING PROFESSIONALLY, AND SO I UNDERSTAND THE DEARTH OF TALENT THAT'S OUT THERE.
BUT I THINK I LIKE TO HEAR MAYBE FROM THE BOARD PERSPECTIVE, MAYBE HEAR A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT WHAT OUR STRATEGY IS.
SOME OF THE THINGS WE'RE WORKING ON, AND WAYS MAYBE THE BOARD CAN SUPPORT YOU IN THAT.
MAYBE PLANNING TO SEE MAYBE BUT NEXT BOARD MEETING ON THAT.
>> IN TO THAT I WILL ADD THAT WE ARE HAVING AN AUXILIARY AND PARAPROFESSIONAL JOB FAIR IN THE FALL.
THANK YOU TO DR. PATTON FOR REALLY ORGANIZING AND ORCHESTRATING THAT.
I BELIEVE IT'S OCTOBER 18TH, RIGHT HERE IN THIS BUILDING, SO WE DO APPRECIATE YOU SPREADING THE WORD ON THAT.
WE'LL BE PUSHING OUT COMMUNICATION AND ANYWHERE THAT YOU CAN SPREAD THE WORD ON THAT. WE DO APPRECIATE IT.
>> THIS IS A POINT OF CLARIFICATION.
I THINK I HEARD YOU SAY THAT THERE'S A STAFF AND PARAPROFESSIONAL JOB FAIR IN THE UPCOMING WEEKS ON OCTOBER 18TH?
>> THAT LOCATION WOULD BE WHERE?
>> RIGHT HERE. WHAT TIME OF THE DAY WILL THAT HAPPEN TO BE?
>> FROM 10:00 AM TO 01:00 PM, AND ADVERTISEMENTS WILL ABSOLUTELY GO OUT HERE VERY SHORTLY.
>> JUST TO JUMP IN, IF THAT'S ALL RIGHT, DR. PATTON, HELP ME WITH THIS DATE PLEASE? SEPTEMBER 29TH? IS THAT RIGHT? WE'LL BE PARTICIPATING IN AN UPCOMING JOB FAIR JUST THIS WEEK IN ARLINGTON AS WELL.
THERE IS A JOB FAIR BEING PUT ON SEPTEMBER 29TH, DR. PATTON?
>> YES. THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT. THANK YOU.
THROUGH THE ARLINGTON HOUSING AUTHORITY OF ALL PLACES, AND IT WAS BROUGHT TO OUR ATTENTION.
WE'RE SUPER EXCITED TO PARTICIPATE, SO THE SAME THING THERE.
WE'RE LOOKING FOR AUXILIARY FIX AS WELL AS PAIRS IF ANYBODY ELSE COMES WILL HELP HIM FIND A SPOT.
BUT THAT'S REALLY WHO WE'RE TARGETING AS WELL, BUT WE'LL BE GLAD TO GIVE YOU MORE INFORMATION AS WELL AS YOU'VE REQUESTED.
>> DR. CANTU, IF I CAN CLOSE THIS.
IT'S BEEN THE FACILITY SHOW TONIGHT.
BUT I DO WANT TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY JUST TO TALK ABOUT HOW PROUD I AM OF EACH ONE OF THESE LEADERS, THESE DEPARTMENT LEADERS.
YOU HEARD THAT EACH ONE OF THEM HAS SOME UNIQUE CHALLENGES.
BUT WHAT I WANT TO TELL YOU IS WHEN WE GET AROUND THE TABLE ON MONDAY,
[01:55:04]
THEY WORK ON HELPING EACH OTHER.JUST AN EXAMPLE OF THAT, I BELIEVE I SAW A POST TO MS. DENTON RIDING ON A BUS, IS THE BUS AID.
I SAW PAUL CASH WORKING ON AIR CONDITIONERS ON BUSES.
I SAW DAVID WALKER UNDER BUSES.
WE HAVE PEOPLE THAT LEAVE TRANSPORTATION AND GO TO STUDENT NUTRITION AND VICE VERSA.
THEY DON'T JUST LOOK AT THE CHALLENGE IN A SILO.
WHEN THEY'RE AROUND THAT TABLE AS LEADERS, THEY GO, HOW CAN WE HELP YOU? WE HAD A SMALL THING HAPPEN IN TECHNOLOGY.
OUR TEAM IS THERE. HOW CAN WE HELP YOU? WHAT CAN WE DO? WHAT CAN WE BRING YOU? THIS IS A TEAM THAT WE'RE SO BLESSED TO HAVE AS A DISTRICT, WE HAVE SOME FANTASTIC LEADERS IN THIS ORGANIZATION.
I'M SO PROUD OF THEM AND I'M SO PROUD THAT THEY'RE HERE IN OUR DISTRICT. THANK YOU.
>> MR. DEBIAN, HOLD ON ONE SECOND.
I THINK WE SAID, ARE YOU GOOD, MR. DEBIAN? I WOULD JUST GO ON TO CLOSE YOU OUT AND JUST TELL YOU GUYS, AND IT WAS GREAT HEARING FROM MR. CASH WITH ALL THE INFORMATION THAT WE HAD FOR THAT PART OF OUR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS AND THEN GOTTEN GOT TO HEAR ABOUT OUR TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT AND THE BUS DRIVERS.
YES, EVEN YOU, MR. WALKER, HAVE ALWAYS BEEN SOME OF MY MOST FAVORITE PEOPLE BECAUSE I UNDERSTAND WHAT ALL THEY ACTUALLY DO FOR US, AND SOMETIMES THEY'RE THE MOST UNSEEN EXCEPT FOR ALL OUR CHILDREN AND SO ON.
I'VE ALWAYS APPRECIATED WHAT THEY DO FOR THEM THE MOST AND AS MS. NEWSOM POINTED OUT, THE SAFETY THAT THEY PUT FIRST.
BUT I WOULD LIKE TO ASK MS. DENTON AND HER TEAM WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE THE MOST POPULAR KIDS ON CAMPUS.
BECAUSE AFTER I SAW THOSE PICTURES, IT REMINDED ME HOW I'VE ENJOYED YOUR FOOD MANY A TIME.
THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR WORK THING AND WE DO APPRECIATE YOU AND ALL THAT YOU PUT IN FOR OUR DISTRICT AND OUR KIDDOS.
>> THANK YOU SO MUCH. [APPLAUSE]
>> WITH THAT, WE WILL MOVE ON TO ITEM 9.1, OUR PUBLIC COMMENTS.
[9. Public Comments ]
[NOISE] THE CORRECT PROCEDURE FOR ADDRESSING THE BOARD DURING PUBLIC COMMENTS IS AS FOLLOWS.SPEAKERS WILL BE CALLED IN THE ORDER IN WHICH THEIR CARDS WERE RECEIVED.
WE WILL CALL THREE SPEAKERS AT A TIME TO FORM A QUEUE.
WHEN YOUR NAME IS CALLED, PLEASE COME TO THE RESERVE SEATING AREA ADJACENT TO THE PODIUM.
ONE SPEAKER AT A TIME WILL THEN BE CALLED TO THE PODIUM TO ADDRESS THE BOARD FROM THE PODIUM MICROPHONE AND STATE HIS OR HER NAME BEFORE SPEAKING.
ALL SPEAKERS WILL BE LIMITED TO THREE MINUTES TO MAKE COMMENTS REGARDING ITEMS ON THE AGENDA.
WHILE SPEAKING, INDIVIDUALS WILL BE ABLE TO SEE THE THREE-MINUTE TIMER IN FRONT OF THEM ON THE PODIUM.
WHEN THE TIMER REACHES 30 SECONDS, THE LIGHT WILL CHANGE TO YELLOW.
WHEN THE TIMER REACHES ZERO, THE LIGHT WILL BLINK RED AND THE TIMER WILL BEEP.
COPIES OF PRESENTATIONS SHOULD BE MADE AVAILABLE TO ALL TRUSTEES AND THE SUPERINTENDENT.
BOARD POLICY PROHIBITS THE DISCUSSION OF COMPLAINTS AGAINST DISTRICT EMPLOYEES DURING AN OPEN FORUM.
I HAVE TWO SPEAKERS SO FAR FOR CARDS, AND MS. MOORE, ARE THERE ANYMORE? OUR FIRST SPEAKER IS [INAUDIBLE], AND FOLLOWING HER IS [INAUDIBLE].
>> GOOD EVENING, DR. CANTU, PRESIDENT WILSON, AND BOARD MEMBERS.
I KNOW THOSE INSTRUCTIONS WERE PROBABLY FOR ME, BUT I'M NOT GOING TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT SHOES THIS TIME.
ONE OF THE VISIONS THAT WE'VE HEARD ABOUT TODAY IS GROWING OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS TO FOSTER A JOYFUL COMMUNITY.
LOTS OF GREAT THINGS WE'VE HEARD.
ONE WAY I THINK THE BOARD CAN HELP WITH FOSTERING THIS JOY IS KEEPING MISD SHINING IN A POSITIVE LIGHT AROUND TEXAS AND AROUND THE COUNTRY.
MANSFIELD HAS ITS OWN UNIQUE DISTRICT THAT'S LARGE WITH 35,000 STUDENTS.
IT'S ONE OF THE MOST RACIALLY DIVERSE HIGH PERFORMING DISTRICTS, PRETTY EVENLY SPLIT WITH 32 PERCENT AFRICAN-AMERICAN, 28 PERCENT WHITE, 27 PERCENT HISPANIC STUDENTS, WITH ABOUT THE SAME 28 PERCENT ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS.
RECENTLY, THOUGH, MANSFIELD HAS BEEN LUMPED IN WITH THE LIKES OF KELLER ISD, GRAPEVINE-COLLEYVILLE ISD, AND CARROLL ISD DISTRICTS TAKEN OVER BY CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIAN CELL PHONE COMPANY.
EVEN THOUGH IT'S BEEN LUMPED IN WITH THOSE OTHERS, I WANT TO POINT OUT THAT MANSFIELD WAS DIFFERENT FROM THOSE OTHER DISTRICTS ON A LOT OF WAYS.
MOST OF THE OTHERS ARE SMALLER, MAJORITY WHITE DISTRICTS, FEWER ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS IN MISD FOR EXAMPLE, CARROLL ISD, I BELIEVE, HAS 9,000 STUDENTS, IS 61 PERCENT WHITE, ONE PERCENT ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED, VERY DIFFERENT.
LAST MONTH I DID TALK ABOUT MAKING SURE FOLKS GET THE SHOES THAT FIT THEM INSTEAD OF THE ONE-SIZE-FITS-ALL.
SO I JUST WANT TO POINT OUT THAT SOMEBODY BESIDES ME TODAY TALKED ABOUT SHOES, WHEN WE TALKED ABOUT [INAUDIBLE] CHECKS HIS TRUST GIVES.
MISD IS CLEARLY NOT A ONE-SIZE-FITS-ALL DISTRICT, SO WE SHOULDN'T FORCE OUR DISTRICT INTO THE SHOES OR THE PATTERNS OF OTHER DISTRICTS AROUND US.
[02:00:03]
REGARDLESS OF THE SUMMER POLITICS THAT WE ALL KNOW ABOUT THAT WE'VE BEEN THROUGH, IT'S NOT HOW WE STARTED, BUT IT'S HOW WE FINISHED.WE'RE HERE TO SUPPORT THE BOARD IN FINISHING BY FOSTERING THAT JOY.
SO FAR MANSFIELD ISD, I BELIEVE HAS STAYED ABOVE THAT FRAME OF THE CULTURE WARS THAT WE'RE SEEING IN OTHER DISTRICTS AROUND.
I THINK THAT IS FOSTERING COMMUNITY JOY.
TO FOSTER THAT JOY, OUR BOARD HAS TO KEEP OUR STUDENTS, TEACHERS, STAFF, ALL THE GREAT STUFF WE HEARD ABOUT TONIGHT ABOVE POLITICAL PROPAGANDA.
LET'S HEAR MORE OF THESE TITLES.
FORBES 2022: AMERICA'S BEST-IN-STATE EMPLOYERS, COMMON GROUNDS PARTNERSHIP, SCHOOL BOARD'S SUPERSTARS RECOGNIZE.
MISD'S TOYS FOR TOTS HAS A 10-YEAR LEGACY.
MISD STUDENTS' NAMES AT TIME'S KID OF THE YEAR.
THESE HIGHLIGHT THE JOYS OF BEING IN MANSFIELD AND PORTRAY IT IN A POSITIVE LIGHT.
WE THANK THE BOARD SO FAR FOR STAYING ABOVE THE FRAY, AND ASK THAT YOU PLEASE DO NOT BRING US DOWN TO THE LEVEL OF THESE OTHER DISTRICTS FIGHTING IN CULTURE WARS, ABOUT GENDER, BANNING BOOKS, CRT THAT ARE NOT REALLY ABOUT THE AMAZING STUDENTS AND STAFF WE'VE ALL JUST CLAPPED FOR TONIGHT.
AS A BOARD, LET'S NOT OVERSHADOW ALL THE GREAT THINGS HAPPENING IN MANSFIELD ISD.
I THINK WE CAN ENSURE THAT MISD FOSTERS JOY BY HELPING TO KEEP US IN THE NEWS FOR WHAT MAKES US GREAT, NOT WHAT MAKES US HATE.
>> THANK YOU. [APPLAUSE] OUR NEXT SPEAKER I CALL BEFORE, I'M NOT CERTAIN IF THEY'RE STILL HERE, AND I APOLOGIZE IF I'M PRONOUNCING IT WRONG, [INAUDIBLE].
THEN WE WILL MOVE ON TO ITEM 10,
[10. Human Resources Report ]
THE HUMAN RESOURCES REPORT, AND WE'LL START WITH ITEM 10.1, THE RECOGNITIONS OF 20 PLUS YEARS.MS. THOMAS, WOULD YOU LIKE TO READ THE REPORT?
SHE IS THE LIBRARIAN AT BROOKS WESTERN MIDDLE SCHOOL.
SHE HAD THREE YEARS WITH MISD, AND 23 YEARS ALTOGETHER.
SO, MS. CUMMINGS, WE WILL MISS YOU, BUT BEST OF LUCK WHERE YOU'RE HEADED, SO WE WILL MISS YOU.
>> THAT TAKES US TO ITEM 10.2, THE BOARD APPROVED NEW HIRES.
[NOISE] MAY I PLEASE RECEIVE A MOTION REGARDING THESE RECOMMENDATIONS.
>> I HAVE A MOTION MADE BY MS. FARRAR, [BACKGROUND] OH, I HEARD THEM AT THE SAME TIME.
MS. THOMAS? THEY'RE POINTING AT EACH OTHER.
MS. THOMAS. THANK YOU, MS. NEWSOM.
THE SECOND MADE BY MS. NEWSOM.
ARE THERE ANY DISCUSSION OR QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF THE MOTION MAY I PLEASE SEE A SHOW OF HANDS? THERE WERE NONE OPPOSED.
[11. Business Items Requiring Board Action ]
THE BUSINESS ITEMS REQUIRING BOARD ACTION, 11.1, CONSIDERATION AND APPROVAL OF THE PURCHASE OF ADDITIONAL BUSES.MAY I PLEASE RECEIVE A MOTION, A MOTION MADE BY MS. ANDERSON AND A SECOND MADE BY MR. DAVIS.
ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS FROM THE BOARD REGARDING THIS TOPIC? I THINK I WOULD AND MAYBE FROM MR. TRUNK AND/OR MR. OGDEN, MAYBE IF JUST SHED A LIGHT ON OUR PROCESS ON HOW WE DO BUSES, IS IT SOMETHING THAT WE HAVE SCHEDULED EVERY SO OFTEN? IS IT SOMETHING WE'VE DONE A BOND OR ARE GOING TO DO A BOND FOR OR WOULD LIKE TO DO A BOND? I MEAN, JUST A REAL QUICK OVERALL, HOW DO WE PAY FOR THESE THINGS, AND HOW DO WE PLAN TO PAY FOR THESE THINGS?
>> I'LL TELL YOU WHERE THE MONEY'S COMING FROM FIRST, AND THEN HE CAN TELL YOU ON THE OPERATIONAL SIDE OF IT, BUT THESE ARE GOING TO COME OUT OF THE CAPITAL PROJECTS FUND, THE MISCELLANEOUS THAT WE TRANSFERRED OVER INTO THE CAPITAL PROJECTS FUND 698.
>> MANY YEARS AGO WE DID BRING TO THE BOARD A REPLACEMENT CRITERIA, NOT JUST FOR BUSES BUT FOR ALL DISTRICT OWNED VEHICLES.
THAT CRITERIA WAS MORE OF A ADMINISTRATIVE GUIDELINE.
OBVIOUSLY, THE BUDGET PLAYS A BIG PART IN HOW MANY BUSES THAT WE WERE ABLE TO PURCHASE.
BUT AS YOU HEARD TONIGHT, WE DO HAVE A NUMBER OF BUSES THAT ARE 10 YEARS OR OLDER.
THIS IS JUST COMPOUNDED BY NOT BEING ABLE TO BUY A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF BUSES EACH YEAR.
AS YOU CAN IMAGINE, I'M SURE DAVID ISN'T DONE THE MATH, BUT I'M SURE WE WOULD NEED TO PROBABLY PURCHASE AT LEAST 25 BUSES A YEAR.
THERE IS AN EXTENDED PERIOD IN THE PAST THAT WE DID NOT PURCHASE BUSES.
OVER THE YEARS THAT IS JUST COMPOUNDED TO PUT US IN THE SITUATION THAT WE ARE.
[02:05:01]
BUT I WILL TELL YOU I'M SO POSITIVE WORK WHEN MICHELE TRONGAARD, EVERY TIME WE FIND BUSES SOMEWHERE, SHE FINDS A WAY.BUT I DO RECOMMEND THAT WE BRING THAT REPLACEMENT CRITERIA BACK AROUND AND TRY TO ADHERE TO IT GOING FORWARD, IF WE'RE EVER GOING TO HAVE A SUSTAINABLE FLEET THAT'S A YOUNG AGE, THAT CAN STAY ON THE ROAD.
ONE THING WE DIDN'T TALK ABOUT TONIGHT, WHEN BUSES ARE NOT ON THE ROAD, IT COMPOUNDS OUR PROBLEMS, AND WE'RE HAVING TO SUBSTITUTE DRIVERS OR HAVING TO SUBSTITUTE ROUTES.
IF WE CAN EVER GET BACK TO THAT PLACE WHERE WE HAVE RELIABLE BUSES AND ARE ONLY OFF THE ROAD FOR PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE, WE'LL ALL BE HAPPIER, I PROMISE, AND THE PHONE CALLS WILL BE LESS.
YOU MIGHT HAVE SEEN SOME OF THOSE BUSES OUT ON THE STREET, THEY'RE TO THE AGE, THEY DON'T HAVE PAIN ON THEM.
THIS IS SOMETHING THAT'S VERY IMPORTANT TO US.
I WILL ASK OUR TEAM TO BRING THE REPLACEMENT CRITERIA BACK, AND IT'S SOMETHING WE'LL PAY ATTENTION TO GOING FORWARD.
>> JUST REAL QUICK BEFORE WE VOTE TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERYONE HAS IN PERSPECTIVE, I KNOW IT SOUNDS LIKE A LOT, ESPECIALLY FOR SOME PLACES TO BUY 25 BUSES A YEAR IF WE GOT TOO.
WHAT IS OUR YELLOW BUS FLEET NUMBER? LIKE IS IT 260, I THINK WOULD RECALL. [BACKGROUND]
>> THAT JUST SHOWS YOU HOW LONG IT COULD TAKE YOU TO READ THROUGH.
ESPECIALLY, IF THEY'RE NOT BRAND NEW BUSES TO BEGIN WITH.
JUST TALKING ABOUT HOW LONG IT CAN TAKE US TO [INAUDIBLE]. THANK YOU, MR. MARTIN.
>> THAT'S A LOT OF INFORMATION.
ARE THERE ANY MORE QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS? OKAY. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF THE MOTION, MAY I PLEASE SEE A SHOW OF HANDS.
ITEM 11.2, CONSIDERATION AND APPROVAL OF THE FIRST READING OF TASMANIA AND MIT POLICY UPDATES.
MAY I PLEASE RECEIVE A MOTION.
>> I MOVE TO APPROVE THE FIRST READING OF THE POLICY UPDATE, CPC, EHAA, EHBB, EIF, FFBA, FFH, AND FFAC LOCAL AS PRESENTED.
IS THERE A SECOND? MS. NEWSOM MAKES A SECOND.
ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS?
>> I WANTED TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE TELEHEALTH COMPONENT IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S ON PAGE 26.
EACH SCHOOL NURSE SHALL BE AUTHORIZED TO ADMINISTER MEDICATION TO A STUDENT THROUGH THE DISTRICT'S TELEHEALTH PROGRAM.
GOOD SIDE HEALTH IF THE STUDENT HAS BEEN REGISTERED WITH THE PROGRAM AND THE STUDENT'S PARENT IS IN CONTACT WITH A LICENSED MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL.
I JUST WANTED TO DISCUSS WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE FOR OUR DISTRICT, AND HOW THAT WOULD BE IMPLEMENTED IF WE MOVE FORWARD WITH THAT.
>> IN ESSENCE, OUR NURSES AND IT'S A PILOT PROGRAM.
I BELIEVE WE HAVE 797 SCHOOLS THAT WOULD BE OUTFITTED WITH A HANDY-DANDY NOTEBOOK COUNT TACKLE BOX THAT TELEHEALTH WOULD PROVIDE TO THE NURSES.
IN THAT BOX WOULD BE THINGS LIKE COVID TESTS, FLU TESTS, STRIP TESTS, THOSE TYPES OF THINGS, SO THAT WHEN A STUDENT IS SICK, THEY'RE SENT TO THE NURSE.
THEN THE NURSE CAN CONTACT THE PARENT AND TELEHEALTH AND HAVE THAT CALL WHERE THE STUDENT WILL BE TESTED AND THEN MAKE A DETERMINATION ABOUT THE COURSE OF ACTION.
IT'S MAINLY A QUICKER FACET THAN A STUDENT HAVING TO HAVE FIRST THE PARENT COMING TO PICK THEM UP, THEN GETTING A DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENT, GOING TO THE DOCTOR THE NEXT DAY, FINDING OUT THAT, THAT POINT THAT THEY HAVE STREP OR COVID.
THEN THE COURSE, WHAT DO THEY DO? THE PROCESS IS PROBABLY NOT THE SAME,
[02:10:03]
THE DOCTOR IS STILL THE DOCTOR, THE NURSE IS STILL THE NURSE.THE DOCTOR WILL BE IN CONTACT WITH THE PARENT.
BUT IT MOVES THE PROCESS VERY MUCH STREAMLINED SO THAT THE STUDENT CAN GET BACK TO SCHOOL HOPEFULLY FASTER.
BECAUSE WE STREAMLINED AND CAUGHT THE ISSUE EARLIER.
THEY GOT WHAT THEY NEEDED EARLIER, COULD GET TO THE PHARMACY EARLIER OR WHATEVER.
I THINK THAT ANSWERS YOUR QUESTION. BUT YOU PROBABLY HAVE MORE.
>> YES. I APPRECIATE YOU EXPLAINING HOW IT WORKS.
WHEN WE WENT INTO THE POLICY REVIEWING COMMITTEE AND WE WERE INITIALLY JUST TOLD ABOUT THIS PROGRAM.
I AND OTHER TRUSTEES, YOU'D HAVE SEVERAL QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS ABOUT HOW THIS WOULD LOOK.
IS THIS SOMETHING THAT WE SHOULD BE FACILITATING IN SCHOOL WHEN THIS IS REALLY THE PARENTS RESPONSIBILITY TO SET UP MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS FOR STUDENTS.
I STILL HAVE SOME OF THOSE CONCERNS ABOUT THE IMPLEMENTATION OF IT, AND IF AS A DISTRICT, THIS IS A DIRECTION THAT WE WANT TO GO AND FACILITATING MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS FOR STUDENTS.
ONE OF MY CONCERNS IS I UNDERSTAND THAT IT DOES STREAMLINE EVERYTHING.
IT'S CONVENIENT FOR THE PARENTS TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT.
THEY DON'T NECESSARILY HAVE TO LEAVE FOR WORK.
BUT IF A STUDENT IS SICK OR LET'S SAY THEY HAVE STREP, THE PARENTS STILL GOING TO HAVE TO COME PICK UP THE STUDENT FROM SCHOOL, CORRECT? REALLY MY CONCERNS ARE JUST FACILITATING A MEDICAL APPOINTMENT FOR STUDENTS ON SCHOOL CAMPUS.
>> I'M GOING TO CALL MARGARET TO TALK.
BUT WHAT I WOULD SAY IS THIS DOESN'T TAKE AWAY WHAT THE REGISTERED NURSE DOES ALREADY.
THE REGISTERED NURSE RIGHT NOW ALREADY SEES A STUDENT COMES INTO THE CLINIC.
THEY MAKE A DETERMINATION OF WHAT THEY FIND, WHAT THE TEMPERATURE IS, WHAT THE STUDENT IS EXPERIENCING.
THEY HAVE TO MAKE A CALL ON CAN THEY PUT AN ICE PACK OR BAND-AID OR WHATEVER AND SEND THEM BACK OR DO THEY NEED TO CALL THE PARENT AND SEND THEM HOME? THIS TO ME DOESN'T CHANGE THAT.
IT'S STILL PART OF THE REGISTERED NURSE THAT WORKS FOR MISD TO MAKE THE CALL ON IF THEY NEED TO GO HOME.
YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT THAT A LITTLE BIT MORE?
>> YES. WE WOULD IN THE CASE THAT YOU JUST SAID WAS STRAPPED, THAT WAS A GREAT EXAMPLE THAT THEY WOULD STILL ABSOLUTELY GO HOME.
WE WOULD KEEP THEM IN THE CLINIC.
WE JUST WOULDN'T ACTUALLY KNOW IF IT WAS STRAPPED BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS.
IF WE PARTNER WITH GOOD-SIZED HEALTH, WE WOULD BE ABLE TO CONTACT THE PARENT, GO AHEAD AND HAVE THAT ONLINE TELEHEALTH VISIT.
THE CHILD WOULD BE TESTED FOR STREP.
IF IT'S POSITIVE, THE PARENT HAS LISTED A PHARMACY.
THE PARENT CAN STOP BY THE PHARMACY ON THE WAY.
GRAB THE MEDICATION, GET THE CHILD HOME, AND THEN WITHIN 24 HOURS, THE STUDENT'S BACK AT SCHOOL.
IF WE WAIT AND WE DIDN'T HAVE THAT, THE PARENT WOULD PICK THE CHILD UP, GO HOME, MAKE AN APPOINTMENT, GET THE TEST, WAIT TO GET THE PRESCRIPTION FILLED, START THE PRESCRIPTION POSSIBLY THE FOLLOWING DAY.
THEN WE'RE WAITING AT A FULL 24 HOURS.
THEN OUR STUDENTS THROUGHOUT 2-3 DAYS WHEN IT COULD BE 24 HOURS, THEY'RE OUT ONE DAY AND THEN THEY'RE BACK.
I DID ASK ABOUT THE PARENTS BEING ONLINE AND THAT IS SOMETHING THAT WE COULD DEFINITELY DO.
WE COULD WRITE IT INTO OUR PROCEDURE, MAKING SURE THAT PARENTS ARE ONLINE WHILE WE'RE DOING ANY VISIT AND TELEHEALTH WITH STUDENTS.
>> AND I JUST WANTED TO ADD IN, I THINK TO SUM UP WHAT MARGARET IS REALLY SAYING IS IDEALLY WE WANT KIDS BACK IN CLASS IN-PERSON AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE SO THAT THEY'RE LEARNING.
AND SO IT'S TRYING TO EXPEDITE THEM, GETTING THEM HEALTHY SO THAT WE CAN HAVE THEM IN CLASS AND LEARNING AS OPPOSED TO BEING OUT SICK FOR A LONGER PERIOD OF TIME AND THEN THEY'RE MISSING OUT ON THAT LEARNING.
>> I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND THAT COMPONENT OF IT AND THAT'S PROBABLY THE THING THAT I LIKED THE MOST.
MY CONCERN IS JUST THAT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT FACILITATING A MEDICAL APPOINTMENT VERSUS STUDENTS.
[02:15:01]
ACTUALLY, I'M JUST CURIOUS.I KNOW HOW A COUPLE OF PEOPLE FEEL BECAUSE WE WERE IN THE POLICY COMMITTEE, SO I KNOW I WASN'T THE ONLY ONE THAT HAD CONCERNS ABOUT THIS.
I REALLY JUST WANTED TO HAVE A CONVERSATION ABOUT THIS TO SEE IF THIS IS EVEN SOMETHING THAT WE'RE INTERESTED IN LOOKING AT, IF WE'RE INTERESTED IN CONTINUING TO LOOK AT IT FURTHER PAST THE FIRST READING.
SO I'M JUST INTERESTED TO SEE WHAT YOUR COMMENTS ARE ABOUT IT.
>> AND I CAN SAY AS A CAMPUS NURSE, WHEN WE HAVE A STUDENT COME IN, WE ARE NOT CALLING UP AND SAYING, WE SHOULD DO TELEHEALTH.
WHAT WE WOULD DO IS WE'D ACTUALLY CALL THE PARENT, LET THEM KNOW THE CHILD IS IN THE CLINIC AND THEN SAY, "HEY, WE HAVE THIS AVAILABLE.
WOULD YOU BE INTERESTED IN THIS?" SO IT'S COMPLETELY UP TO THE PARENT.
IT'S NOT SOMETHING THAT WE WOULD JUST DO.
>> MS. [INAUDIBLE], YOU HAD YOUR HAND UP AND I WOULD ACTUALLY LOVE TO HEAR WHAT YOU SAY ABOUT THIS.
I'M A NURSE FOR ANY OF YOU WHO DON'T KNOW THAT.
SO I HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF EXPERIENCE WITH THIS OUTSIDE OF HERE AND THEN ALSO IN HERE IN THE BOARD BECAUSE WE'VE GONE THROUGH THIS SEVERAL TIMES.
SO THIS IS ACTUALLY SOMETHING THAT WE CHALLENGE DR. CANTU WITH A WHILE BACK.
PRE-COVID, IN THE EARLY STAGES, WE WERE GOING THROUGH THAT WHOLE SITUATION OF HOW CAN WE KEEP KIDS, GET THEM TURNED OVER A LITTLE BIT FASTER, NOT AS OUR SOLE RESPONSIBILITY.
IT'S WHAT IS THE COST TO THE DISTRICT BECAUSE IT'S MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE COST IS ACTUALLY EITHER YOU OFFER IT TO THE PARENTS AND IT RUNS ON THEIR INSURANCE, OR THERE'S A CASH PAY OPTION FOR THEM TO PAY AND IT'S NOT A COST TO THE DISTRICT; IS THAT CORRECT?
>> I JUST WANT TO PUT THAT OUT THERE.
ALSO THIS IS SOMETHING THAT ACTUALLY IS GOING ON IN MANY OTHER DISTRICTS AND HAS FOR YEARS.
I CAN TELL YOU THE ONE I'M MOST INTIMATELY HAVE INFORMATION ABOUT IS WEATHERFORD, AND THEY ACTUALLY HAVE TELEHEALTH AND HAVE FOR A LONG TIME SITUATION.
NOW IT'S SOMETHING THAT THE KIDS AND THE PARENTS REALLY STREAMLINE THAT FOR.
THIS HELPS TO KEEP PARENTS TO BE ABLE TO STAY AT WORK AND BE ABLE TO COME AND MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO GET KIDS HOME.
SO IF THEY CAN STAY AND THEN CUT THEIR COME HOME AND THEN THEY DON'T HAVE TO BE OUT FOR TWO DAYS TO TAKE THE KIDS THE NEXT DAY IF THAT MAKES SENSE.
THEY HAVE DATA TO SHOW AND PROVE TO YOU HOW FAST THESE KIDS TURN AROUND.
THEY'RE THE ONES I CAN SPEAK WITH ABOUT BY NAME, BUT IT'S REALLY IMPROVED THEIR ATTENDANCE RATES.
IT'S REALLY IMPROVED THE HEALTH OVERALL OF THEIR KIDS AND THE PARENTS HAVE BEEN REALLY SATISFIED.
SO A LITTLE BIT OF SOME QUESTIONS AND STAFF TOO BECAUSE THERE'S ALWAYS SOME ASPECTS OF THAT.
IS ARE WE ROLLING THIS OUT IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WHERE I THINK THAT'S SOMETIMES A LITTLE BIT EASIER TO CATCH, WHERE SOMETIMES WE GET INTO SOME GRAY AREAS IN HIGH SCHOOL ABOUT WHAT'S COVERED, WHAT'S NOT, HOW ARE SOME THINGS LIKE THAT AFFECTED.
SO OBVIOUSLY, I'LL TELL YOU THAT AS A BOARD MEMBER, SOMETIMES WE THINK THAT AS A DISTRICT, THERE'S A WHOLE LOT OF THINGS THAT PARENTS OWN.
THEY NEED TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT, HOW THEY'RE RAISED, THE DECISIONS THAT ARE MADE AND THINGS LIKE THAT.
BUT WE END UP BEING IN THE MIDDLE OF THAT WITH HEALTH CARE WITH KIDS A LOT.
BECAUSE THEY END UP GETTING SICK AT SCHOOL, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I THINK COVID HAS HELPED IS I ALWAYS HATED THE FACT THAT PARENTS WOULD JUST SEND THEIR KIDS TO SCHOOL BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANOTHER OPTION.
AND AS A TEACHER AND ADMINISTRATOR, THAT'S SOMETHING THAT YOU HEAR ABOUT OFTEN.
AND SO THE FACT THAT IT GIVES A LITTLE BIT MORE TOOLS TO A SCHOOL NURSE WHEN SOMETIMES THEIR TOOLS ARE A HUG, A MINT, AND AN ICE PACK.
SO GIVING THEM A LITTLE MORE TOOLS TO BE ABLE TO HELP UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A PHYSICIAN OR A PROVIDER AT THAT POINT I THINK COULD REALLY OVERCOME SOME CHALLENGES FOR US AS WE WORK THROUGH THIS NEW FRONTIER IN WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE FOR KIDS THAT ARE SICK AND THINGS LIKE THAT.
AND THEN WE JUST HAVE THE ABILITY TO DO THOSE POINT-OF-CARE TESTING, A SWAB, AND THINGS LIKE THAT THAT CAN GO REALLY QUICK.
IT'S MY UNDERSTANDING TOO, THAT THIS COMPANY IS PAYING FOR ALL THE TESTING MATERIAL AND ALL THAT STUFF.
THAT'S NOT AN ADDITIONAL COST TO US EITHER; IS THAT CORRECT?
>> SO I DON'T THINK THAT IT'S PERFECT YET, BUT WE HAVEN'T HEARD ALL THE INFORMATION.
I THINK WHAT WE'RE PROBABLY LOOKING AT IS POLICY AND WHETHER OR NOT THAT'S WHAT SOMETHING WE WANT TO PUT IN POLICY AS AN OPTION.
BUT I THINK WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO HEAR FROM US IS THAT WE REALLY ARE GOING TO CARE ABOUT HOW THAT ROLLS OUT, WHAT THE DETAILS ARE, AND IF WE WANT TO TRY TO OVERCOME ANY SPEED BUMPS BEFORE WE DO THAT.
[02:20:06]
EITHER THIS IS GOING TO BE SOMETHING THAT CHALLENGES WHERE IT NEEDS TO STOP OR IT'S GOING TO BE, "WOW, THIS IS GREAT.HOW DO WE DO THIS FAST OR BIGGER?" EVERYTHING LIKE THAT. AND I'M GOING TO TELL YOU THAT I BELIEVE FROM OTHER DISTRICTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND STUFF LIKE THAT THIS IS GOING TO BE SOMETHING THAT ACTUALLY, WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A MORE THOUGHTFUL APPROACH ABOUT HOW WE DO IT FASTER AND NOT SEVEN CAMPUSES.
BUT I THINK WE NEED TO MAKE SURE WE HAVE ALL OF OUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED.
I THINK WE NEED TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE A LITTLE BIT BETTER.
THIS SEEMS VERY BROAD RIGHT NOW FOR US.
>> WELL, I APOLOGIZE AND I CAN MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE A PRESENTATION OR MORE INFORMATION THAT WE BRING TO THE BOARD IF THAT WOULD HELP, AND THEN SOMEONE FROM [INAUDIBLE] HEALTH TO MAYBE COME AND JUST REALLY ANSWER MORE IN-DEPTH QUESTIONS.
>> I JUST THINK THAT MAYBE WE DON'T HAVE A GOOD IDEA OF WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE AND WE NEED A BETTER PICTURE OF WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE.
I HAPPEN TO KNOW WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE ON THE OTHER SIDE, BUT NOT EVERYBODY ELSE HAS THAT INFORMATION.
>> AND THEN ONE NICE THING IS THIS IS THE FIRST READING SO IT GIVES US THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE A FOLLOW-UP QUESTION WITH THE POLICY COMMITTEE.
AND THEN INFORMATION WE NEED TO BRING FORWARD TO THE REST OF THE BOARD.
IT'S TIMES LIKE THIS WHICH I LIKE THAT WE DO DO TWO READINGS ON ANY POLICIES SO THAT WE HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE SURE EVERYBODY IS COMFORTABLE AND INFORMED.
BUT I WANT TO LET YOU KNOW ALL THE TRUSTEES HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SAY SOMETHING.
WAS THERE ANYBODY ELSE ON THIS SIDE?
>> IF I CAN JUST INTERJECT ONE THING AND I DON'T WANT TO CUT OFF ANY BOARD MEMBER FROM SAYING ANYTHING AT ALL.
BUT THIS MARGARET, APOLOGIZE, AND SHE SHOULDN'T.
THIS IS ROLLING OUT AS IT SHOULDN'T BE JUST A POLICY THAT'S JUST BARE BONES.
AND THEN WE HAVE TO PUT MEAT TO IT, PROBABLY IN A REGULATION, WHICH WE CERTAINLY CAN WORK ON AND PUT THAT TOGETHER SO YOU CAN SEE WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE AND WHAT IT WOULD LOOK LIKE PRIOR TO THE NEXT READING.
>> WELL, I WOULD SAY ONCE AGAIN, THAT I WOULD COMPARE IT TO VERY SIMILAR TO BUT AGAIN DIFFERENT THAN WE OPENED UP OUR CLINIC FOR ALL THE ADULTS IN THE DISTRICT.
AND SO IF YOU REMEMBER, IT WASN'T NECESSARILY ONE OF THEM THERE NEITHER.
YOU'VE GOT YOUR [INAUDIBLE], YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE YOUR QUESTIONS AND JUST TO MAKE EVERYBODY FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH IT, AND THEN IT ENDED UP BEING FINE.
AND THEN WE HAVEN'T REALLY HAD TO REVISIT IT SINCE.
WE GET REPORTS TO MAKE SURE IT'S ALL FUNCTIONING WELL.
SO I THINK IT'S IN THE SAME BOAT AS THAT WAS, BUT AGAIN, DIFFERENT.
WAS THERE ANY MORE QUESTIONS ON THIS SIDE? I WAS JUST GOING TO SAY I AGREE WITH BOTH TO MY LEFT AND TO MY RIGHT HERE, AND I APPRECIATE YOU COMING AND PROBABLY PRETTY CLOSE TO THE LAST MINUTE.
SO WE REALLY APPRECIATE YOU COMING AND SHARING THAT INFORMATION BECAUSE I THINK THAT THE APPREHENSION IS WE HAVE JUST A LITTLE BIT OF POLICY HERE AND TRYING TO GO FORWARD AND AND PUTTING THAT IN AND WE JUST NEED A LITTLE BIT MORE DETAIL.
I APPRECIATE YOU GOING TO PUT THAT TOGETHER AND THEN IF THE POLICY COMMITTEE CAN MEET AND HAVE A LITTLE BIT MORE DISCUSSION ON THAT, I THINK THAT WILL HELP. THANK YOU.
>> THANK YOU AGAIN. I UNDERSTAND THIS IS THE FIRST READING AND LIKE YOU SAID, THERE'S NOT ALL THE MEAT ON THE BONE YET.
BUT JUST SOME QUESTIONS THAT I HAVE, AGAIN, ME COMING FROM THE MEDICAL FIELD, THE CONSENT ASPECTS OF IT WITH A PARENT THAT'S NOT THERE WITH A CHILD, AN UNDERAGE INDIVIDUAL.
AGAIN, THESE ARE THINGS I'M NOT ASKING FOR ANSWERS RIGHT NOW, BUT THINGS THAT I FEEL LIKE NEED TO BE DISCUSSED AND BE PART OF THAT.
LIKE I SAID, THE CONSENT ASPECTS, THE HIPAA ASPECTS THAT GO ALONG WITH THAT AS WELL.
ESPECIALLY, AGAIN, IF A PARENT IS NOT LIVE WITH THE UNDERAGE INDIVIDUAL AND THAT TYPE OF THING.
I JUST THINK THOSE ARE THINGS THAT NEED TO BE FLESHED OUT.
FOR THE POLICY COMMITTEE AND ANYBODY ELSE INVOLVED IN THAT, THOSE ARE THINGS THAT I WOULD LIKE TO FEEL MORE CONFIDENT IF THIS WAS THE DIRECTION THAT WE DECIDED TO GO AND SO FORTH.
AGAIN, I DO HAVE CONCERNS PUTTING MEDICAL TO A CERTAIN DEGREE WITHIN THE SCHOOL AS IT IS.
I FEEL LIKE SOME PARTS NEED TO BE MORE SEPARATE.
I REALIZE FOR EFFICIENCY SAKE, THIS WOULD BE EXCELLENT.
WE'RE ALL LOOKING FOR THINGS TO BE MORE EFFICIENT
[02:25:01]
AND LESS COSTLY ON US AND THAT TYPE OF THING.I CAN UNDERSTAND WHY THAT WOULD BE A POSITIVE.
BUT I DO HAVE CONCERNS, AGAIN, WITH THE MIXING AND INTERMINGLING OF CERTAIN ASPECTS WITHIN THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND SO FORTH.
SO THOSE ARE JUST SOME OF MY CONCERNS AND AREAS THAT I THINK IF WE COULD ADD MEAT ONTO THOSE BONES MIGHT HELP GIVE ME MORE UNDERSTANDING AND FEEL BETTER ABOUT IT AND SO FORTH.
>> ANYTHING ELSE DOWN HERE? AGAIN? NO. HE SAID NO.
THEN WITH THAT AND THE REFERENCE TO THE MOTION MADE ON 11.2, ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, MAY I PLEASE SEE A SHOW OF HANDS.
ALL THOSE OPPOSED? THE MOTION PASSES SEVEN, ZERO.
WE WILL TAKE IT TO ITEM 11.3, CONSIDERATION AND APPROVAL AFTER THE FIRST READING OF TASB POLICY UPDATE EHB AND EHBAA LOCAL.
MAY I PLEASE RECEIVE A MOTION?
>> THE MOTION MADE BY MS. THOMAS. IS THERE A SECOND?
>> A SECOND MADE BY MS. FARRAR.
WITH THAT, ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS FROM ANY TRUSTEES? WE'LL START ON THIS SIDE THIS TIME.
NO. HOW ABOUT OVER HERE? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF THE MOTION.
MAY I PLEASE SEE A SHOW OF HANDS? THOSE OPPOSED? MOTION PASSES SEVEN, ZERO.
ON TO 11.4, THE CONSIDERATION AND APPROVAL OF ACTION REGARDING TEACHER CONTRACT ABANDONMENT.
MAY I PLEASE RECEIVE A MOTION? MR. DAVIS, WAS IT A MOTION? IS THERE A SECOND? SECOND BY MS. ANDERSON [NOISE].
ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING THE MOTION?
>> I HAVE TWO THAT I'D LIKE TO PULL, IS THAT WHAT YOU'RE ASKING? [BACKGROUND]
>> THERE IS A PAGE BREAK, SO YES, I'VE DONE THAT.
WE'VE HAD A MOTION AND A SECOND.
ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS?
>> FROM THE TEACHER CONTRACTS.
I MAKE SURE I'M IN THE RIGHT. THANK YOU.
>> YES. SOMETIMES WHEN YOU PRINT THEM OUT, IT PRINTS ALL.
SINCE THERE ARE NO QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS, ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF THE MOTION, MAY I PLEASE SEE A SHOW OF HANDS? ALL THOSE OPPOSED? THE MOTION PASSES SEVEN, ZERO.
THIS TAKES US TO ITEM 12, OUR CONSENT AGENDA.
[12. Consent Agenda ]
LET ME REMIND YOU THAT WE VOTE THE CONSENT AGENDA UP OR DOWN UNLESS SOMEONE WANTS TO PULL AN ITEM.DOES ANYONE WANT TO PULL AN ITEM AT THIS TIME? [LAUGHTER] DR. CANTU?
IN REFERENCE TO ITEM 12.15, AS AN ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM, I DON'T THINK WE'RE QUITE READY TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THAT AT THIS TIME, AND SO I WOULD LIKE TO GO AHEAD AND PULL THAT ITEM AND BRING THAT BACK TO YOU ALL AT THE NEXT MEETING.
>> MS. FARRAR, YOU HAD YOUR HAND UP?
>> I WOULD LIKE TO PULL EIGHT AND 14, PLEASE.
>> SHE SAID EIGHT. DR. CANTU HAS PULLED FROM THE AGENDA ITEM 12.15, SO IT WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR A VOTE TONIGHT, AND THEN TRUSTEE FARRAR HAS PULLED ITEM 12.8 AND 12.14, AND WE WILL COME TO THOSE IN JUST A MOMENT.
IN THE MEANTIME, ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF APPROVING THE CONSENT AGENDA, WITH ITEMS BEING 12.12, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, MAY I PLEASE SEE A SHOW OF HANDS? THERE ARE NONE OPPOSED, SO THE MOTION PASSES 7-0.
MS. FARRAR, WE'LL START WITH ITEM 12.8.
[12.8. Consideration and Approval of Class-Size Waivers ]
>> I WAS JUST HOPING YOU COULD JUST.
>> MS. THOMAS MAKES THE MOTION AND MS. FARRAR SECONDS IT.
>> YES. I WOULD JUST LIKE A LITTLE BIT IF WE COULD JUST TALK ABOUT THE WAIVERS REAL QUICK.
>> YES. BOARD MEMBERS ARE ASKING YOUR CONSIDERATION TONIGHT IN IMPROVING 10 CLASS SIZE WAIVERS FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CAMPUSES.
AS A REMINDER, STATE LAW REQUIRES OR ADMINISTRATIVE CODE REALLY, BUT FOR SCHOOL DISTRICTS REQUIRES ANY CLASS PRE-K THROUGH 4TH GRADE HAVE THE CLASS SIZE MAXIMUM OF 22 STUDENTS TO ONE TEACHER.
[02:30:05]
SHOULD WE EXCEED THAT, WE WOULD NEED TO SEEK A WAIVER FROM THE STATE OR MAKE OTHER ARRANGEMENTS.YOU MAY RECALL THAT IN YEARS PAST, WE HAVE TRANSPORTED CHILDREN FROM CAMPUS TO CAMPUS.
IF ONE CAMPUS WERE TO BE FULL, WE'D WORK WITH TRANSPORTATION AND MAYBE THIS GETS TO ANOTHER CAMPUS WHERE THERE WAS SPACE.
THIS YEAR WITH OUR INCREASE OF CHOICE SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION, YOU SAW SOME OF THE STATISTICS WITH REGARD TO OUR BUSES, OUR DRIVERS, THAT'S JUST NOT AN OPTION THIS YEAR.
WE'RE ASKING YOUR CONSIDERATION IN 10 CLASS SIZE WAIVERS, WHICH AT THIS TIME AFFECT 11 STUDENTS IN OUR DISTRICT.
DOES THAT GIVE YOU THE INFORMATION YOU NEED?
>> IS THERE A NUMBER THAT THAT'S PUTTING IN EACH CLASS, IS IT ONE OVER?
>> YES. WITH THERE BEING 10-WAY VERSION 11 STUDENTS, THAT MEANS THAT NINE OF THE CLASSES HAVE 23 STUDENTS, SO ONE OVER AND THEN ONE OF THE CLASSES HAS 24 STUDENTS, SO TWO OVER.
>> DO WE HAVE A QUESTION? ANYONE?
>> BUT WE'RE STILL. IS THERE ANY MORE QUESTIONS ON THAT ITEM?
>> SINCE THE MOTION WAS MADE BY MS. THOMAS AND A SECOND BY MS. FARRAR, ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF THE MOTION, MAY I PLEASE SEE A SHOW OF HANDS? THERE WERE NON-OPPOSED SO THE MOTION PASSES 7-0.
[12.14. Consideration and Approval of the Agreement for Operation of School-Based Health Center Between Tarrant County Hospital District and Mansfield Independent School District for Operation of the JPS Health Network/Mansfield ISD School- Based Health Center ]
CONSIDERATION APPROVAL OF THE AGREEMENT FOR OPERATION OF SCHOOL-BASED HEALTH CENTER BETWEEN TARRANT COUNTY HOSPITAL DISTRICT AND THE MANSFIELD INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR OPERATION OF THE JPS HEALTH NETWORK/MANSFIELD ISD SCHOOL-BASED HEALTH CENTER.MAY I PLEASE RECEIVE A MOTION? MOTION MADE BY MS. THOMAS.
IS THERE A SECOND? IS THAT MR. DAVIS?
>> IS THERE ANY DISCUSSION OR QUESTIONS ON THIS ITEM?
>> YES. I WAS JUST HOPING THAT YOU COULD TELL US JUST A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THIS AGREEMENT THAT WE'VE HAD WITH JPS AND HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS WITHIN OUR DISTRICT.
>> I CAN GIVE YOU A BRIEF OVERVIEW, BUT THEN I SEE SOME EXPERTS THAT ARE SITTING OUT THERE, PERHAPS PHILIP O'NEIL OR MARGARET.
BUT IT'S A PARTNERSHIP THAT WE'VE HAD WITH JPS THAT'S BEEN ESTABLISHED SINCE 2008.
THAT'S HOW LONG IS THE DISTRICT.
IT DID LAPSE A LITTLE BIT DURING THE PANDEMIC, BUT WE DID CONTINUE OUR SERVICES AND SO THIS JUST FORMALIZES OUR AGREEMENT AGAIN GOING FORWARD.
IT'S AN AGREEMENT THAT WE'VE HAD AGAIN ALL THE WAY BACK TO 2008.
>> THEN DO YOU KNOW ABOUT HOW MANY STUDENTS IT SERVICES EVERY MONTH?
>> AROUND 200, I BELIEVE. IS THAT ACCURATE?
>> ARE THERE ANY MORE QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF THE MOTION, MAY I PLEASE SEE A SHOW OF HANDS? ALL THOSE OPPOSED? THE MOTION PASSES SEVEN, ZERO.
[13. Superintendent's Report ]
THE SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT ON THE AGENDA. ARE YOU OKAY?>> BECAUSE YOU'VE ALREADY PULLED IT.
>> ITEM 13, THE SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT, THIS IS FOR DISCUSSION ONLY.
